Please bear with me through this chapter. It was very hard to write.
Everypony stared at the wedding crasher. There was a crazed look in the stallion's eyes. Discord put an arm around Fluttershy, ready to pull her behind him if this took a turn for the worst.
"Did you really think that you won, Discord?" Jack sneered, in a voice not entirely his own. Darkness started dripping from his mouth. The shadows pooled then writhed and started to form a pony like shape. The guards all around started shooting magic at the figure, but the blackness just absorbed the light.
Ponies started to run for the doors, but they were slammed shut by an unseen force. Applejack, Big Mac, and Painted Winter threw themselves against the door, but were unable to break it down. Flash Sentry, Shining Armor and the other guards surrounded the Princesses, eyes fixed on the growing figure.
Discord's subconscious started to panic, and told him to run. Vague memories of terror and agony, flashed across his eyes. The Lord of Chaos pushed Fluttershy and Tina, who had run up to them in the panic, behind him. Shadows surrounded everypony, then cleared, revealing the ballroom to now be empty, leaving the small family alone with the growing black figure.
The dark figure, now in the form of a pitch-black twisted alicorn. Its body seemed to boil and strain against the shape. It stretched and shook its mane. "Oooh," the creature moaned. Its voice was neither feminine and masculine, but both at the same time. "It was getting a little too boring in there for me." It kicked the motionless stallion who lay next to it and rolled its shoulders and examined its reflection the in marble tiling. "I truly missed this form. Oh, the havoc that I wreaked in this form."
Discord trembled, his mind and body trying to get as far away from this creature as possible. "Mortifero," he hissed through clenched teeth.
"Good to see you too, Dissy." Mortifero laughed. "I missed your company after I left to woo your darling marefriend. I missed your screams of agony the most. Seeing you twisted on the floor, writhing in your own blood, is one of my fondest memories. Right along with seeing my seed of darkness manifest in Luna and turn her into Nightmare Moon, and watching Sombra use what I taught him to take over the Crystal Empire."
The creature noticed Discord's trembling, and grinned evilly. "I see you haven't forgotten our time completely either. Here is a gift from me in honor of that time."
It blew a black mist in Discord's direction. Fluttershy saw the mist enter Discord through his eyes, nose and mouth. She caught him as he fell to the ground. His body was convulsing and his eyes were rolled up. Muted screams were torn from his clenched teeth.
"Discord! Discord! What have you done to him?" Fluttershy screamed at Mortifero. The creature had walked over to the small group.
"I merely gave him his memories back, the ones I took from him before I sent him back. Every single moment of agony, terror, hopelessness, and darkness, is replaying in his mind. It must have been too much for the poor dear."
Mortifero reached toward Discord as if to caress his cheek. Little Tina would have none of that. She darted out and latched her teeth onto the black hoof.
Mortifero yelled in pain and flung the filly into wall across the room. Tina hit the wall with a sickening thud.
Fluttershy screamed her daughter's name and raced to her side. She cradled the small filly in her arms, and searched for any sign of life.
There wasn't any.
"TINA!"
In Discord's world of pain, he saw and heard nothing but his terror and pain. He fought the memories and darkness, but nothing was working. Distantly, he heard Fluttershy scream their daughter's name. He remembered. Fluttershy and Tina were still in the room with Mortifero. This gave him enough strength to escape the cycling memories. His eyes fluttered open and his vision cleared. He forced himself onto all fours and surveyed the room. Mortifero stood smiling over Fluttershy, who was holding a limp yellow and green form. Tears were streaming down Fluttershy's face in a way he had never seen before. A scream that emanated from her broken core rang throughout the room. Discord realized that only one thing would make her this broken.
"NO!" he roared and he stumbled to his wife. He placed his hands on Tina's head, searching for anything that showed that she was alive. There was no heartbeat that he could feel, no breath coming from her lungs. Nothing was there.
"She will be fine," Mortifero dismissed the couple. "Tina is a resilient filly. She will-"
"Do not say her name!" Fluttershy screamed. "You have no right to call her Tina, evil, murderous-"
"Murderous? I have never . . ." Mortifero turned a shade of grey. "Oh, no!" It darted its eyes around the room, in a paranoid way, and gathered shadows around itself.
Discord was standing to confront the creature, when he heard Fluttershy gasp. He turned to see that Tina's body was gone.
Fluttershy and Discord snapped their gazes to Mortifero. "What have you-"
"Mortifero." The voice was terrible and strong, yet gentle and kind. A glow came from the door of the ballroom. Mortifero started trembling in fear. Discord and Fluttershy started getting frightened themselves. Whatever could scare Darkness itself, must be terrible and powerful.
The glow in the door faded slightly. A regal mare, even more regal than Celestia and Luna, could be seen in the door.
"Laete, Sister, please-"
"Silence!" The darkness shrunk at the command. "You have abused your powers and broken your vow to the Creator, our Father, and have killed an innocent."
"Please, Sister-"
"You are to be stripped of your power, and to be sent into the heart of a dying star. There you will live the same and every agony that you have caused every single other living creature until-"
"You don't have the authority to punish me like that!" Mortifero snarled. The shadows grew slightly around it.
"No, I do not, but Father does."
Mortifero became very pale. Its shadows were shrinking around it.
"You will remain in that star," the mare continued, "until Father deems it time to release you."
The light brightened. Discord and Fluttershy clutched each other and closed their eyes against the light.
The light faded, and the couple opened their eyes. A small white filly sat in the middle of the room. Fluttershy walked over to the filly, and seeing she was crying, placed a hoof on her shoulder.
"Daddy gave Brother so many chances to change his ways, but he just kept testing the boundaries. He didn't do enough harm that Father could punish him fully, only scoldings and limitations, but Brother did enough to make innocent creatures suffer. I did what I could to limit his range of power, but-" she broke into sobs. "I helped the draconequus defeat Brother, hoping that would stop him for a few centuries, but Brother took the creature with him. I pleaded with Mortifero to let him go, but in Darkness, I have no power, unless Daddy gives it to me."
Discord had memories cross his mind. Short times of light and hope that made the darkness bearable. "You were there in the darkness."
The filly looked up and nodded. "I could enter for brief times when Brother was elsewhere causing some havoc. I talked to you. You couldn't understand me, but I told you stories, and gave you hope that you would be freed soon." She looked past Discord to where Tina had laid, dead.
"I am sorry that she had to die in order for Brother to be punished fully. I-" She started to say something else, but she looked up as if someone was talking to her.
"Yes, Daddy, but why can't I-" Silence. "I understand." The filly stood. She grew until she was once again a mare.
"Discord, Fluttershy, you were unable to say goodbye to your daughter. Father has given me permission to bring her spirit back for a short time."
"If you can bring her spirit, can't you give her back to us?" Discord pleaded.
Laete shook her head. "I am sorry. Restoring her to you would also release Brother from his punishment."
Fluttershy turned her head into Discord's chest. She was losing her baby. Ten short years, that was all the time she had had with her. There was so much that they wouldn't be able to do together.
"Fluttershy, before Tina gets here, there is something that I can give you."
Laete stretched out her neck and touches noses with the pegasus. She sighed a white, sparkling mist which Fluttershy breathed in. Discord watched as the grey hairs turned back to pink and the lines on her face disappear. Laete stepped back and looked at Discord. She placed a hoof over both of the couple's heart. Both felt a warmth flow into them.
"I cannot give you eternity, Fluttershy. Only Father has that power. Live and love each other well, for as long as the Creator gives you."
"Momma! Daddy!" Discord and Fluttershy turned to see little Tina running towards them. She leapt into their arms and held them tight. Tina's parents did their best not to cry.
"I love you both so much. Elyon told me what happened. I am happy that I am the reason that that crazy monster is punished forever. Elyon tells me that I can watch you both from where I am going, but I will miss you both so much."
"We will miss you too, Squirt." Discord wiped away a tear and kissed his daughter's forehead.
"Tina." The small group looked up at the source of the voice. A being made entirely of light stood in the doorway next to Laete. "It is time to go."
Fluttershy squeezed her daughter one last time and covered her face in kisses. "I love you so much."
"I love you too, Momma. Daddy," Tina turned and hugged Discord, "I am so glad that I got to meet you. I love you."
"I love you to the end of time, Squirt."
"I love you to the end of time and back."
With that Tina turned and trotted to the shining door and took the being's hand. Before they started to walk away, Tina turned.
"Dance, please. Mortifero didn't let you dance, and I wanted you to." Tina smiled, and walked into the light. Fluttershy and Discord watched as their daughter disappeared with Laete and the being.
Just before the light faded, they heard Tina ask, "Elyon, are there cotton candy clouds and chocolate milk where we're going?"
Discord and Fluttershy held each other long after the light faded, and they were still staring at where Tina left when the Princesses and the rest of the Mane Six came barrelling into the room.
"Where is Mortifero?" Celestia asked.
"In a dying star," Discord answered. "Suffering."
"What?" Everypony asked.
"How?" Twilight asked.
Fluttershy shook her head and hugged Discord. Applejack was the first to notice who wasn't there.
"Where's Tina? She wasn't with us when that creature sent us away."
A tear escaped Discord's eye. "She is the reason Mortifero is suffering. He broke his vow and his sister, Laete, came and punished him."
"Did you say Laete?" Luna asked.
"Yes, I have heard that name before," Twilight said.
"Laete is supposed to visit the suffering and give them hope and restore their spirits." Luna said, her face down. "I vaguely remember, but while I was banished, she tried to restore light into my being."
"She was there in the years Mortifero had me as well," Discord stated. "Tina is with her and someone named Elyon."
"One of the Creator's many names is Elyon," Celestia said.
Fluttershy fell to the ground. Discord gathered her into his arms. "Fluttershy . . ."
"Our daughter is gone," Fluttershy sobbed.
"I know, dear, and I know one thing."
"What?"
"She wanted us to dance our first dance."
Discord looked up to Sweetie Belle and her fiancée. They had just walked in with everypony else. Sweetie Belle looked at Smooth Jazz beside her, who nodded.
"I have the perfect song."
I cried myself to sleep after writing this, and I hate myself for it. I didn't want this to happen to Tina, but it just happened, and I couldn't find any other way to end Mortifero.
One more chapter . . .
