Chapter 9
Birth of a demon
She let her inner feral beast out. She was a monster.
A demon.
The fur on the cats' body rose up making her bigger and as she saw that the dark haired man lift his arm to deliver another blow, she lunged from the bushes with a loud roar and caught the end of the whip. Her ears were flat against her skull as with a growl she yanked the barbed whip from the mans' grasp.
"So you have returned." Halsey sneered. "Where is the boy!" The man yelled as he saw that the black haired child was not with the feline.
You will never touch him again! Luin growled, but Halsey did not understand. The only thing he heard was an angry and loud animal growl. The great feline carefully placed one paw in front of another slowly getting nearer to the black haired man. The bluish snow leopard eyed the man and roared loudly when Halsey moved a bit.
"The Cat is mine!" Yelled Halsey as he saw his men approach the feline with their weapons and drew his sword.
Luin pounced and her sharp claws scraped on the mans' sword when he barely dodged the great cats' attack. The force of the attack rattled the mans' bones on his left arm, but he managed to cut the felines' side with his dagger. The bluish snow leopard landed, growled and swiped out at the dark haired man. Halsey dodged it by a miracle only a few strands of his black hair flew in font of his dark eyes. The man recovered quickly and charged at the great feline again. Luin on the other hand, now taken over by her primitive feral instincts, didn't saw any reason just pure anger and instincts. the bluish snow leopard did not even hear her family and friends calling out her name. She jumped over the man twisting in the midair and slashed the mans' back with her great paw. The black haired mad winced in pain as the last cats' attack left four bleeding, but shallow wounds on his back.
The great cat landed and quickly turned already ready to pounce on the man, whose back was still turned to her, when suddenly a barbed end of the whip wrapped around her left ankle. The great feline looked down and her sky blue eyes followed the offending thing. Her gaze stopped at the handle of the whip in the hands of the brown haired man.
The small man managed to crawl to the fallen whip, take it and save his leaders' life. Walcotts' hazel brown eyes were wide, and he trembled in fear under the cats' gaze. The feline hissed, put her front right paw on the whip, quickly adjusted her position and with a mighty jump she landed on the frightened man. Her weight was great, and the small man could not move or push the feline off. Walcott then saw the shiny white fangs of the feline getting nearer to his throat as she was getting ready to take his life.
Suddenly the great cat stopped and winced. Walcott just starred to the fanged muzzle as the cat gave out a deep growled and turned her head to see what just bit in her tail.
Lord Elrond and the others just stared at their feral friend. "Thank the Valar for her thick muscle tail." Quietly said the ancient elf to his bound companions when he saw the dark haired leader take a swing at the felines' tail with his sword.
"Aye ada. Thinner tail or if he had an axe, her tail would be a lost." Elladan said.
The elves saw their feline friend turn and lash out at the man with a roar knocking the mans' dagger out of his hand, but received another wound to the side from the mans' sword.
Elrohir saw a slight shadow pass on the edge of his vision. The younger twin turned his head and saw the stout blond man move from his spot, away from the bounded elves, to the place where the elvish weapons were lying, while the other men were watching their leader fight the great cat. Elrohir let out a quiet hiss to get the attention of the other elves.
Lord Elrond was glad that he was not mistaken about the big man and smiled a bit.
In the continuing fight with the leader of the group the bluish snow leopard managed to injure the mans' left arm with her claws and leave a bite mark on the black haired mans' right leg. And when Halsey was starting to show signs of exhaustion, Walcott, Pierson, Garret, Bronson and Weldon joined the fray. Some of the men carried burning branches to distract the feline.
The battle raged on and the evil men were laughing as any of them injured the great feline. The men did not even realize, that the sparks from the branches they were holding, were setting off the fallen dry leaves on fire and starting small fires around them.
Luin was bleeding from many wounds shallow and deep alike and they were making her weaker. She managed to injure all of them, but not gravely. But a sudden shout made them all stop.
"STOP! IT! NOW! CAT!" Halsey yelled and when the feline looked at him, he pressed his retrieved dagger to the young princes' throat.
The great cat looked at him and the air around the place rumbled with her growl. Halsey got nerves and moved his hand with the dagger and left a shallow long cut on the golden haired elfs' throat. A small trickle of blood rolled down the thin neck.
Something in the back of the felines' feral mind was shouting at her.
"HE HAS HURT HIM AGAIN!" The voice yelled. Then something in her mind just clicked and the cat let out a mighty roar that froze everyone in place. The great felines' muscles in her hind legs tensed and she made a great jump.
The cats' aim was true, and she landed on the black haired leader knocking out the air out of his lungs.
Halsey was stunned for half a second as the cat landed on him, but he recovered quickly and jabbed his dagger to the felines' belly. The snow leopard roared, her mind went more red if it was even possible and in an instant she ripped the mans throat killing him in an instant and tore his body in pieces.
The others, men and elves alike were horrified at what the great cat done in her rage and madness.
The ancient elven lord did not believe that Luin as able to do such a thing. Lord Elrond was glad that his little adopted son was not present to witness such a horrific action of his animal friend. The little edain would be terrified of her. He knew that her feral instincts were dangerous, but with her kind and gentle soul he thought that she would not be able to do this kind of a violent act.
The forest was slowly burning and the glow behind the feline and the blood, she was covered in, gave her the appearance of something from a nightmare in the dim light.
Walcott was the first one to recover from the shock after witnessing his beloved masters' death. With a risen sword and a fierce cry, he lunged at the feline soon followed by Pierson and the others.
Suddenly Bronson saw a movement to his left and turned. He saw Colton creeping to the elven weapons and ran to him.
"You traitor!" the man growled and attacked the stout blond man with his pike.
The blond man jumped away to the weapon pile, where also his long broadsword was. He took the heavy weapon and spun around and in a wide sweep he cleaved the pike in two and killed the brown haired man. Colton then stood up and looked at the downed body, "I was never a member of this group to begin with." Colton said and went to free the elves.
The bluish snow leopard managed to knock the smaller brown haired man out again, but Pierson was still on her tail. She swiped at him with her paw and knocked away his short sword right out. Without a larger weapon the slim man ran away from her and hid behind the nearest tree.
Luin jumped to the tree, and it was the one where Legolas was bound and where now Pierson was hiding from the wrath of the great cat. She swiped her claws the slim man, but he jumped away and her claws dug to the bark of the tree and to the ropes that bound the small golden haired princeling. As the great feline freed her claws, she almost completely cut the ropes that bound Legolas to the tree. Only a few last strands kept holding the rope.
Legolas quickly realized the rope will give away after a few tugs. He heard the ragged breathing of his animal guardian and friend when she slammed her claws into the tree. He had to help her somehow.
Colton crept behind the elves with their weapons while the other men were distracted by the great cat. The blond man brought out one of Legolas' white knives and cut the rope off Lord Elronds' hands.
"You have to help her." The stout blond whispered and went to free the balrog-slayer. The ancient elf took his sword and freed his sons. The elves armed themselves.
"Why are you helping us now?" Elrohir glared at the man.
"I want to do what is right." Colton said and his shoulders sung in shame when he remembered what the other men had done and returned the young princes' dagger to lord Elrond. "I did not know what they were up to. I swear lord Elrond. I did not know nothing about this." The man looked into the stormy grey eyes.
"I believe you." Said the raven haired elven lord. "I remember you from your previous visits to Rivendell." Lord Elrond added and placed his hand on the mans' broad right shoulder.
"Help us save Legolas and Luin and then look for Estel to show your remorse." Glorfindel said and pointed at the fighting feline and still bound Mirkwood princeling.
"Your leader is dead! Surrender now!" Lord Elrond shouted to the fighting men.
The men stopped fighting and two of them turned to look at the armed elves and Colton, the others still carefully watched the growling cat. That gave the panting exhausted feline a little break, but soon the men charged with a battle cry again.
The elves charged and so did the cat. And the battle began anew. The great feline went after the biggest man and Garret swung his axe at her. Pierson retrieved his short sword and clashed his weapons with Erestor, who had a bit of trouble in close combat. He was a scholar not a warrior. Weldon went after the golden haired elven lord, the Elrondion twins went after Walcott. The bluish snow leopard was growing weaker and weaker with each passing minute, so lord Elrond and Colton went to her rescue. None of the evil men were beginners so they were able to handle these kinds of situations and fend off their attackers.
Legolas gave a few tugs on the rope and it gave away. He staggered and swayed on his feet from his injuries after the torture he just went thought. And the blood loss did not help either and leaned on the bark of the tree and steadied his breathing with deep breaths. Suddenly he heard the disturbed whispers of the trees. The young prince pressed his forehead on the bark and closed his eyes to listen.
Fire! Fire getting close! Help him! Help the little boy.
Legolas' eyes went wide. 'Estel.' He thought and staggered to the burning forest where the trees were leading him.
