"I'm pregnant."
Two small words that suddenly had the power to change the entire world. Kyouya's mind began racing as his face showed no hints to the turmoil inside of him. There was no way something like this was happening to him. He was Kyouya Ootori! He had no room in his plans for such a thing as a pregnancy with a one night stand. Fury filled him and he wanted nothing more than to trash something. He had worked too damn hard for something like this to happen! He could not see his future sacrificed to this woman! And how could that even have happened?! He didn't release inside of her! Pre-cum contains sperm, too, a small voice nagged.
"Pregnancy tests can be easily faked if someone has a strong enough motive," He told her icily, pushing his glasses up the bridge of his nose. "And it would be unwise to set your sights on someone with the ability to easily deport those who try to slander another's reputation. Usually women who resort to such things are after money or a means of staying in a country in some cases. So which is it, Tinashi? You're in need of money or you're about to be deported. I must say, this was a very ill thought out plan-"
"You think I'm faking being pregnant for money!?" Tinashi looked at him incredulously, her eyes wide. "Are you fucking SERIOUS?!" She hissed, her eyes flashing with anger.
"I am. Now, I hope you realize your plan is doomed already. Honestly, did you forget my family has over 100 privately employed police-"
"Why would you think I would fake that?! I don't need money! My visa is perfectly fine! I'm a teenage girl, why would I fake being pregnant?!" She shouted at him, standing quickly, tears springing to her eyes for the second time in the six months he had known her. She took on a defensive stance, hatred battling her features. She opened her mouth as if to say something before disappearing into a small hallway, leaving the potential heir to the Ootori fortune on the futon still. Before he could rise to his feet to leave, she had returned, hurling the small white test at him. "Check it for yourself! It's real and I'll prove it on any other test you bring me! How dare you!" She had tears streaming down her face. "I didn't even want to have sex with you! I did it to pay off my debt and now I'm going to suddenly lose my life, my future and as I'm carrying your responsibility you have the nerve to call me a liar?!" She was shaking by that point and it was as if suddenly the bags beneath her eyes had appeared to him for the first time. "Get out."
"Excuse me?" Kyouya stood now, looking at the trembling mess before him. This didn't really suit her, he decided. She was one for theatrics in which she appeared invincible. These tears were a sign of vulnerability.
"I said get out!" She shoved him toward the door, turning to go back to her futon. She sank slowly on it, burying her hands in her hair as she did. She hadn't looked up to see if he had made it outside of the door but she assumed he did when she heard the soft click of the door shutting. She quietly began sobbing, her shoulders heaving as she did. What was she to do? She came to Japan, expecting a new start and now…
Kyouya stood still, watching her from his spot beside her door. He felt a pang of guilt inside of him as the proud creature on the opposite side of the room fell apart. He had become an expert on reading people and as such he knew when someone was lying. One look at the coal-black haired woman and he knew she wasn't lying. This made him cold with fear and nauseous with the realization that inside of her was the beginnings of his child.
With an inaudible sigh he crossed to her, sitting down beside her. Slowly he wrapped his arm around her, his movements a tad bit awkward since he had never really had to physically consol anyone before. He was a master at making others feel at ease when it was beneficial to him and even more adept at hushing his idiot of a friend. This was something totally out of his element though and put him at unease, something of which he was not intimately acquainted with. "Tinashi."
"Go away," she mumbled, not moving to reject him. She simply brought her knees up and laid her head on them.
"Hush," he brought her close before he sighed. "If you truly are pregnant then we need to talk." He turned his head sideways to look over her form, his gray eyes unguarded. He felt weary suddenly and briefly entertained the thought of sleeping for the next week once he got home. Alas, sleep was also not a close acquaintance of his.
"I tried to but I got accused of lying so I could get something out of you," She told him, her tone seeming to say she had at least calmed down some.
"That is true but seeing how distressed you are, I have no choice but to believe you." He leaned back, pinching the bridge of his nose with his forefinger and thumb, "now, if you feel this is such a burden to you, I may suggest something." He was actually loathe to suggest this idea, however he felt he ought to be fair and give her the option since it was his actions that did this to her unwillingly. "If you feel like this is too much for you an abortion may be arranged."
He wasn't prepared for the sting of the slap across his face.
"YOU WANT ME TO KILL MY CHILD?!" Tinashi screamed at him, her face livid.
"I only suggested it since you seemed to 'have no future'," He told her, resisting the urge to rub his face. The woman knew how to hit, that was for sure. "I, myself, would prefer not to as it is my child as well and therefore as you so correctly mentioned before, my duty." He wouldn't directly admit that it would be a major blow to him if she were to rid herself of his child. Though not planned for it didn't mean he wouldn't want or love the baby- he wasn't a man like his father.
"Well that is not an option," Tinashi told him, calming slowly. There was another pause before she sunk back into the couch, "I don't know what I'm going to do."
"We're." Kyouya corrected.
"What?"
"We're," he emphasized, "this is my unborn child as well in the question and therefore, this concerns me as well. Now, we need to schedule an appointment to get a blood test to confirm this." He started to pull out his phone. He knew the moment the results came back positive his shot at becoming the successor of his family would be destroyed. He wanted to laugh at the irony- how hard he had worked and how close he came only to trip at the finish line.
"I can't go to a doctor," Tinashi told him suddenly, earning a suspicious glance from him.
"I thought you said you were here on a Visa," he retorted.
"Not for lack of papers, stupid. It's…I don't want this getting out and falling into the wrong hands," Tinashi told him. It made sense for both of them; once word got out the youngest Ootori had impregnated a foreigner, news of the scandal would run rampant and ruin their reputation.
"Fine, I'll see about testing you myself at the earliest time I can get you to a lab." Kyouya told her. He stood offering her his hand, which he was relieved he took. "In the mean time, you and I must decide on what we are to do about this."
"Okay," Tinashi nodded.
"Have you eaten yet today?" If she was truly carrying his child then she had better prepare to be subject to a multitude of different tests and other trials to ensure she and the baby would be healthy.
"It's five in the fucking morning, what do you think?" Tinashi frowned.
"I think it's time for breakfast."
"I'm actually impressed that you managed to bring yourself to one of these," Tinashi told Kyouya as they walked side by side, staring at all the different booths. The 'commoner's galleria' as he called it, reminded Tinashi of the malls at home. And Wal-Mart.
"It simply provides a low profile way in which we can spend time together in public on a sort of 'date'," Kyouya explained, his hands in his pockets. It had been two weeks since the day she had told him she was pregnant and the two had worked on getting to a point where they could spend time around one another and not want to kill something. It had actually been his idea to go on a date as a sort of way to 'get to know one another' and 'bond'.
"Or you just wanted to look at all the stuff," Tinashi suggested, lightly teasing him. At his glare she stifled a giggle, easily taking a bite out of a poky stick.
"Hardly. Now, I hope you realize what must happen," Kyouya began as he sipped on the beverage that was left over from the meal they had consumed. It was revolting to say the least but since he had been hungry and since she needed to eat more as well, it had sufficed.
"Hm?" He paused as two bright blue eyes focused on him once more.
"There is no way in which my family will accept an illegitimate child-before you feel the need to interrupt let me finish," he told her firmly, already familiar with the flash of her eyes when she was angry, "now, therefore this child cannot be illegitimate."
Tinashi looked at him in confusion before laughing quietly, "you're suggesting we get married?"
"It isn't a suggestion." Kyouya replied simply. He watched as the mother of his child stared at him in somewhat reserved shock, her eyes wide. When it must have been apparent to her that he was serious she spoke again.
"Wow…I always imagined being proposed to quite differently than this." Tinashi said quietly.
"An official proposal will be made soon; however, I need to know now if you will accept. May I remind you that this is the only way my son may be a part of my family." Kyouya told her. He already had it in his mind the child was going to be a boy.
"Sure, I mean, yes, I will because my parents will want us to be married, too." Tinashi sighed. She moved to sit on a bench beside a fountain, closing her eyes.
"Oh? What else would they want?" Now Kyouya had a more curious side about him. Tinashi almost expected him to bring out his black folder and pen.
"Nice try, but if you want to find out about my family you go first." She leaned back as he sat down beside her, draping his arm about her shoulders as he often did now and days as a way to get used to being around her. He had grown more comfortable with this now.
"I am the fourth child and the youngest born to my parents. I have two older brothers and one sister. My eldest brother, Yuuchi, has just graduated medical school and my other brother, Akito is attending. My older sister, Fuyumi, is married."
"And your parents?" Tinashi asked him, noting how detached and cold he sounded as he talked about his family. He might as well be reading off a string of numbers.
"Excellent businessmen. Mother and Father are at the top of their fields," Kyouya was quiet as he continued; "I'll never be successor to the Ootori family. I'm not like my brothers. All they had to do was follow the path that had been promised to them - the path that keeps heading upward. It's because I'm the third son that I can't relax. I'll surpass Father's expectations of me, and I will respect my brothers and never step on their toes in the process. How can I demonstrate my abilities without exceeding the limits of being the third son? I have a daunting task: I must paint the perfect picture on a canvas that has already been placed inside a magnificent frame." It was the first time he had ever admitted such a thing to anyone other than Fuyumi and he was surprised by how much lighter he felt as he told this to Tinashi. He knew he wanted their marriage to be much warmer than the one his parents shared. He wanted Tinashi to at least be his friend as he had learned not to dream for something more grand- it would be foolish to try.
Tinashi paused before swallowing, looking at him as she murmured, "you know what my parents look like and you can guess that my mother is Native American and my father is white. I'm an only child and the…sole heiress to the company. The Akmastashi Company," Tinashi looked at him.
"I knew I had seen him before," Kyouya commented before nodding at her to continue.
"They're great people, wanted me to have a great life before I took over for the company. They made sure I was fluent in four languages as well as let me take piano and guitar lessons, and pushed me to learn how to dance… They told me it would help me grow as a person and would be beneficial to running the company," she sighed as she closed her eyes. "There was just one problem though…I didn't want to take over ." She missed seeing the way his eyes dilated. "So I kind of…ran away. That's why I came to Japan. I didn't offer to pay off my debt myself because I didn't want them to find me and take me back to the states. I don't think I'm ever gonna be ready to take over…"
"It must be nice to just blow such things off," Kyouya spoke icily. "You have what so many work for and never achieve and you're just throwing it away," he removed his arm from her as her eyes opened.
"Excuse me?" She cast him a withering look. "It's my decision and my life."
"You don't get it! You have all that I ever wanted!" Kyouya snapped, his eyes blazing.
"It's not my dream! I'm working for what I want just as you are working for you want. Sometimes someone else has what we want and makes us angry but it pushes us harder to reach our goal. It doesn't matter that I have what you want, it only matters if you can earn your desire yourself. If you can then you're meant to succeed and if not then it's not cut out for you." Tinashi told him, turning away after she finished. She was angry at his outburst. It wasn't her fault what had been given to her.
It was a good five minutes later before he spoke, "I'm…sorry, for what I said." He wrapped his arm about her, pulling her back into him. It was the closest they had been since that night. "Forgive me?"
"Can I have more chocolate if I say yes?" Tinashi looked back as he looked genuinely amused and she could feel the movement of his chest against her back. He was actually laughing!
""I'll take that as a yes," he sighed before looking at her curiously, "So…I have a question," Kyouya's voice sounded as neutral as ever when he spoke to her, not at all like when it had softened as he spoke to her a few moments ago.
"What's that?"
"How the hell does a white-Native American have a Japanese name?" At this it was Tinashi's turn to laugh. He smiled as he listened to the unrestricted sound echo about them and hoped this would be a sound he would hear in the future.
"My grandparents adopted my father and they're Japanese." Tinashi explained.
He stood and guided her to her feet before suddenly telling her, "You know, I had another dream, when I was younger and it became a part of my plan."
"What's that?" Tinashi asked as they started walking once more.
"I wasn't ever going to be like my father- I would make sure my children knew I was proud of them and that I loved them." It felt like he had no ability over his mouth anymore. He must've spent too much time around Tamaki, he concluded. Still, he felt much lighter as he confessed his secrets to the mother of his child. He even felt the compulsion to reach over and touch her stomach lightly. Thankfully, he hadn't been so much around Tamaki that he could still refrain from such things. "And I would make sure they knew their parents truly cared for each other."
Tinashi's head turned and she stared at him in surprise. Did he…just admit that he wanted to love his wife? The implications made her throat close up and she opened her mouth to speak but stopped as she saw a young couple. Both stood there quietly as they watched the couple playing with their babies, smiling and laughing. As the laughter reached them, Tinashi reached over and took his hand, squeezing it gently.
Haruhi was walking about, getting free samples from the galleria when she spotted a familiar duo. Her eyes widened as she spotted Kyouya-Sempai and Tinashi standing a little ways away, holding hands as they watched a family together. It shocked the brunette to see the two enemies not only in close proximity to one another but even touching! She never thought she'd live to see the day when the two could be within five meters of each other and not feel the need to strangle one another. She was about to go up to them to ask what was going on with their strange behaviors for the last two weeks when she saw something that made her stop.
The smiles on their faces and they way they acted made it clear to the somewhat romantically-challenged girl. "So that's what's going on with those two…" Who was she to judge? If she and Tamaki could be a couple then so could Tinashi and Kyouya. She decided she was happy for them and walked away from the two before either could spot her, leaving them to their quiet date.
"Now, where was that tuna at…?"
"Well, isn't this boring?" Hikaru commented dryly as they sat in the quiet of the room. A hazy stream of sunlight filtered into the room through the grand window. The hosts lazed about with the twins in their identical chairs, Hunny and the ever silent Mori sat at their usual table. Tamaki was hanging over Haruhi, watching her study despite her protests. Kyouya was typing away at his laptop, screen shielded away from everyone and finally the newest host laid on her back on a separate couch on the other side of the room. Except for the sound of Kyouya clicking away at his keyboard or Haruhi occasionally telling Tamaki to go away, it had been a quiet day. Boring!
"Yeah. It's too quiet." Kaoru agreed, mirroring his twin's posture and expression without even needing to look at him.
"It'd be quieter if you'd both shut up," Tinashi sighed, trying valiantly to sleep. Today she had given blood as a cover up and secured a small amount to give to Kyouya for testing. He had access to the lab that evening and the results would be known to them that evening. As a result the host club learned she also had AB blood (which to them explained a lot of things) and she was tired.
"We'd spring for you and Kyouya to be fighting right now to end the silence!" They said in unison, both leaning forward in their chairs to stare at the girl.
"Do you ever listen to what comes out of that perpetually open maw you call a mouth?!" Kyouya shouted, his eyes blazing behind the glare of his glasses as flames fired up around him. He was practically bristling with fury as he stood poised to strangle her.
"Can't be any worse than what you pull out of your ass!" Tinashi yelled, throwing things at him as lightning struck all around her.
"I wouldn't call them fights per say, " Tinashi mumbled.
"Besides, after periods of 'down time' the customers get restless, making them more susceptible when we cosplay to buy club paraphernalia and almost quadrupling profit margins," Kyouya remarked as he continued typing. Currently he was researching things to do with pregnancies. His eyes flitted over to his tanned unofficial fiancé, pausing. What would it be like when they were married and she was round with his son?
The complaint about the silence was soon short-lived as the doors flung open, revealing three women clad in a white and maroon uniform. The tallest had cropped hair and gray eyes, the next tallest had wavy dirty-blonde hair and brown eyes while the shortest had brown hair and big eyes. Flower petals followed them as they spun into the room, laughing. The tall one came forward, her hand thrown outward as if she were reciting dramatic prose. "We have come back, fair maidens, to rescue you once more from the disgusting wallow of male sovereignty!"
Fed up by the constant distraction of noise, Tinashi stood, her hands on her hips. Rather than staying in disguise she wore the pants of the uniform and a white undershirt, her breasts unbound and proving in abundance. Her hair was down and in her face, though it did not shield her vision. She watched as the girl strode forward and pulled Haruhi into her embrace. "Ah, young maiden, still as lovely as ever. I hope these lowly life forms have not corrupted your pure soul," She kissed her cheek to which Tamaki stood abruptly, placing himself in between his girlfriend and the offending woman.
"What is the Zuka club doing back here at Ouran," Kyouya asked, standing and pushing his glasses up the bridge of his nose. He closed his laptop quietly as the rest of the club rose.
"We're here to extend our final invitation to the fair maiden," Benio murmured as she gazed fondly at Haruhi.
"No, thanks." Haruhi spoke flatly, annoyed at having to tell these girls for the third time that she would remain at Ouran.
"So there you have it!" Tamaki exclaimed in triumph. "She said no, and that means you can leave!"
"That isn't the only reason why we're here, right Beni?" The small one asked, crossing her arms over her chest in open defiance.
"That's correct, Hinagiku. We said we were here to rescue the maidens," all eyes drifted towards Tinashi now who had stood in silence the entire time, watching from behind her red and black veil. "And now we can divert our full attention to her," the three crossed over to Tinashi who made no move to step away.
"Look at that, she doesn't even flinch!" Hinagiku squealed in delight, proud to see such a strong woman. The three stood about her now, Hinagiku and Chizuru on either side of her and Benio in front of her, gently tilting her chin up to examine Tinashi as one would examine a prized animal. The twins made a motion to stomp over there but Mori stopped them with his arm, shaking his head. A fight wouldn't solve anything.
"Indeed, she possesses an abundance of inner strength in addition to bountiful womanly charms," Chizuru added, laying her hand on her arm, in unrestrained rapture at touching Tinashi. Tamaki was angry at seeing them handle his daughter like that but Kyouya was furious. That was his future wife and mother of his unborn child for Kami sake! He hid his anger well, narrowing his eyes as the blonde marveled at the feel of the very same body he had once held without any clothes between him and her. As she cupped Tinashi's firm bottom he became even more pissed than before, his fury rising past the level of livid.
"I think she would make an excellent addition girls. She could be the Lady of the Gladiolus," she pulled a bouquet of the flower out, handing them to Tinashi who had remained silent throughout the whole ordeal. "So, what do you say, maiden?"
"First of all," Tinashi replied, "don't ever touch me again." She removed the hands laid upon her with obvious disgust. "Secondly this whole calling me 'maiden' crap- that needs to stop," She told her, her eyes narrowing. "I'm probably more masculine than anyone in this room. Thirdly, I'm not joining a club where everyone expects me to romanticize some girls and portray myself as a lesbian. I am not going to lead those girls on like that. It's wrong."
"And yet you would lead women along here?" Benio asked, raising her eyebrow.
"I don't give them hope that I will make them my girlfriend- in fact, I went as far to say I wouldn't be interesting in dating for a long time. I entertain them and talk with them when they need someone to talk to," Tinashi told her. She handed back the flowers and spoke, "and finally, my loyalty lies here with the Host Club. Every single member here is my friend and I would stand beside them in times thick and thin. I care for them and let me emphasize this," She leaned close and spoke in a low growl, "there isn't a single thing any woman can do for me like a man can."
"So you're telling me that feeling another soft body against yours has no merits?" She had pulled her flush against her own body, touching from chest to pelvis. "You don't like the idea of someone who knows exactly what you'd like because she too likes feeling that?"
"I prefer a man," Tinashi insisted, pushing her off, taking satisfaction in watching her stumble slightly. There was a pause before Benio smirked and recovered, looking at her.
"You're in love with one of them." At Tinashi's pupils dilating and the stiffening of her body she knew she had uncovered the truth. Everyone stared as she made no move to deny the accusation. "So it's true. You're in love with one of these pathetic cowards. And if my guess is right, I believe I know which one."
"Leave. Now." Tinashi told them.
"Why not come out in the open then if you are so virtuous?" Hinagiku asked, circling her now. "Especially if you want to associate yourself with them."
"That's enough, ladies," Tamaki spoke, his voice abnormally cold though reserved. "It is time for you to leave."
"A limo has been called to take you back to Lobelia Academy," Kyouya shut his phone, looking at the three.
"Now you should do like the boss says…"
"…And go."
"Fine," Benio said, smirking as if this was her plan all along. She snapped her fingers and she and her two groupies strode toward the door, pausing. "We'll leave for now but when you decide you don't want to go down with this mass of pitiful weaklings, you know where to find us." They lingered for a moment longer before Benio glanced over her shoulder, looking into Tinashi's eyes, "and we'll be able to take care of both of you." Without another word they continued on, the door shutting behind them.
Tinashi had remained silent though her eyes widened and her fists shook at her sides. That woman…she knew and it would only be a matter of time until everyone else found out. Then what would she do?
"Are you alright, Tina-Chan?" Hunny asked, holding his bunny tightly. The room was still tense as she refused to meet anyone's eye.
"I'll be fine," Tinashi told them. She leaned against the wall, feeling tired suddenly.
"You could probably press charges," Hikaru and Kaoru offered quietly.
"I'll be fine. I don't need to press charges and I don't need any pity." Tinashi told them, her tone speaking of her frustration. She knew everyone was trying to figure out who it could be out of them that she had feelings for and it made her sick.
"Well, isn't this a fun turn of events? What a delightfully dark aura everyone has," a cloaked figure said from the corner of the room.
"Beat it Nekozawa," Hikaru told him.
"This isn't exactly a good time," Kaoru finished. As the hooded boy crossed to Tinashi he held out a deck of cards in his hand.
"You look upset. I know a little card game always makes me feel better, why not pick one?" He offered, his creepy smile showing through.
"Tarot cards?" Tinashi asked as she looked at the back of the one on top. "Sure, why the fuck not?" It was obvious she was already in a bad mood. What else could the cards do to possibly make her day worse? Without much deliberation she selected the card eighth from the bottom and held it up to scrutinize. She stared at it before shoving it at him and stomping out of the room, slamming the door.
"Your new friend seems to be an unlucky woman," Nekozawa told them as he stared at the card. "A familiar but unlucky woman."
"Yeah, yeah, she's a cousin of Tamaki's. Now, what did the card say?" Haruhi asked, surprising everyone with her boldness. She wasn't concerned with her lack of tact or anything, rather she wanted to know what was wrong with her friend. Maybe it had something to do with the fact Benio seemed to know she was in love with Kyouya-Sempai…
"She drew the three of swords," Nekozawa told them, placing the card back into the deck. Kyouya was only half paying attention since he wanted to get out of there. Part of him wanted to leave so those in the room wouldn't deduce that he was involved with Tinashi as it was clear to Benio she was pregnant and he was the father, while the other part felt the need to comfort her. He couldn't explain his rage at their presence and flirting with her . He supposed he had a right to because that was his future wife but… he knew in the back of his mind the true reason and it frightened him. His heart had begun to pound at Benio's words: You're in love with one of them. Who? Who was she in love with? He could rule out Haruhi and Hunny automatically since she regarded them as family. However that left Tamaki, Mori-Senpai and Hikaru&Kaoru as potential candidates. He didn't include himself since she must hate him for all that he had done to her. He returned his attention to the present, resolving to go after her soon, when no one was watching.
"And?" The twins asked in unison.
"And the Three of Swords represents rejection, sadness, loneliness, heartbreak, betrayal, separation and grief," Nekozawa explained. "You're friend is about to experience hurt unlike any she has ever felt before."
Woah! Thanks to a combination of shitty weather, a week long vacation and a OHSHC marathon via Netflix, I've managed to come up with this! To anyone and everyone who is following/reading this I would like to give a big thank you. I'd like to give a huge thank you to the guest that has given me my first review as well! I'm not sure if it appears long here (on MS Word it's 11 pages!) but I did strive to lengthen the chapter past the usual 4 pager. There's some big drama ahead (when isn't there?) and some humor to come! Keep on reading!
