Orphans Beloved: "Beth Rhymes With Death…"

Summary: Like my Immortal Beloved and Sheldon Swifties bits in my Buffyverse and Sheldonverse, these are fragments and short bits, some longer…Just to fiddle with ideas, possibly forming longer tales later.

Part XXIV…

En route to Dyad Institute, in Rachel Duncan's car…

"Ok, stop! Sarah! This is insane…" Fee insisted, from the rear seat into which Sarah had more or less thrown him.. "My sister is not going back into Dyad, particularly not at the behest and in alliance with the maniac who tried to have her mutilated!"

"You don't have to…" Beth agreed. "I can go in alone…Sarah…" she glanced at the nervous sister in the passenger seat. "You don't have to…I just need someone to know Art and I are in there…If things don't…"

Sarah eyed her…Her look steadily grimmer.

"Are we back to the 'Hi, I'm Beth in here' spiel?"

"It doesn't matter what you believe…" Beth shook head, keeping eye on the road. "Look, there's something else…" she braked and pulled over…

"Ferdinand's behind us and I can't shake him like this…I shouldn't even be trying to drive, with one eye."

"Ferdinand the magic cleanser…?" Fee, looking back out the rear.

"Will you get over here and take the wheel before he reaches us, one of you?!" Beth cried, opening door. "I don't think he'd harm us but he would hurt Art!"

"Of course not you, he's your boyfriend…We saw." Fee noted.

"He's not Beth's boyfriend." Beth replied. "And whether you think I'm crazy or lying…Sarah, you love Art…Don't let him die like this, for nothing."

"He's gone because of you, you freaked out bitch." Sarah, coldly. "He believes your damned story might be true…"

"Why do you think I got in this car and nearly killed myself and you driving it?!" Beth stared. "He can't die because of me!"

Fee staring…

Dear God…

I really think…Well, I could…Being of a romantic, artistic temperament…

"Fine…" Beth moved as if to drive on. "I've already died once…"

"All right…" Sarah, hastily. "Only 'cause I don't want Fee hurt..."

"Thanks...For once…" Fee noted.

"…I believe Art's at Dyad and in danger…And I'd prefer to be able to drive over any of your goons…" she hopped out, Beth slipping herself over with a grunt, to the passenger side, catching and tearing suit slightly.

"Ok…That clinches it. Rachel would never ruin a suit doing that." Fee shook head as Sarah climbed in and turned key. "Nice to meet you, Elisabeth."

"Shut up…" Sarah glared. "Your boy's just behind us, right?" she nodded at the rear-view mirror.

"I'm sure he thinks I'm plotting with you…I don't think he knows we're heading for Dyad. We need to shake him, Sarah." Beth insisted.

"Yeah, fine." Sarah pulled out from the shoulder corner where Beth had pulled up, Ferdinand's car stopped just behind another in traffic at the previous light, Sarah flooring it.

"Jesus, sis!" Fee lurched back in his seat as the car roared out. "Give us notice!"

"You're noted." Sarah, dryly, careening the car round a sharp turn, Ferdinand clearly in pursuit.

"So how big a ticket?" she eyed Beth.

"I'm a detective, not a traffic cop, sis." Beth frowned. "But be glad my status is pretty unclear right now or you'd be looking at serious jail time when this is over."

"I grant you you're either very good or very crazy…" Sarah nodded.

"Both…Faster!" Beth noted. "Felix? Thanks and nice to really meet ya!"

"What do we do, Helena?" Donnie, driving their stolen Jeep as fast as he dared on the rather icy highway, eyed his sister-in-law who frowned…

"Sorry…What do we do, Beth?"

Thanks you, brother…Quick beam…

"For now, it's best we keep driving…Sweetheart…" Rachel from the back.

Least until we shake the Caspirs and I can properly sort things out in here.

"Donnie! Don't listen to her...She's trying to fool you!" Ally cried.

Uh…He blinked at Helena.

"What ice bitch sestra said, for now. Rachel, if you are there, I will cut you out of my beloved sestra Alison if you tries anything. Then I will drag your skinny bitch ass to my station and throw book on you." Helena noted calmly.

"Donnie…" plaintive tone. "You won't let this psychotic hurt me?"

"No, I won't." he said, keeping eyes on road. "I'll help Helena cut you out of Ally before I'll let you hurt her in any way, Rachel."

"Yes! Do what you have to! I'd rather be dead, honey!" Ally called.

"Don't be a fool, Hendrix!" Rachel grimly. "And keep driving or we're all test subjects for Castor."

"You know they might be able to help. Paul's not interested in Alison." Donnie noted to Helena. "If we let you off somewhere…"

"Hendrix!" Rachel, furious. "You even think, in your limited way, about…"

Donnie and Helena, brief nods to each other…

"Don't you ever insult my husband, you bitch!" Ally cried. "You worthless, crazy…"

"Sestras! Hush!" Helena bellowed, looking back at Alison with dark look. "Donalds wouldn't give you to soldiers, he is just confirming you, Rachel. You are not ready to die sos you are not likely psychologic breaks thing. Now let him drive and we will deal with you later. Ally, all will be well…We will cure you."

"I am not a…Disease!" Rachel fumed.

"That was great thinking, honey…" Ally beamed.

"They're back on our tail…" Donnie noted, nod to the rear view mirror and peer to his side mirror. He flipped off the lights…

"Are you insane?!" "Careful, Donnie!" cries from behind.

"Oooh you is daring type, too, brother…" Helena grinned.

"I will pretend I did not see you cut lights. But never drive like this in city." She added, mock-sternly as they hurled on down the dark highway…

…..

"Look…Sorry." Art, holding hand over Delphine's mouth in the stairwell of the Dyad parking lot as she squirmed, he whispering intently. "I think we're clear of the camera but keep acting like you're frightened of me. I didn't want them to think you're in on this with me. But I need to get access to files on Rachel Duncan and to know if anything's been done experimentally with her, with regards to Beth. Can we talk, safely anywhere?" he eased his grip.

"I've no need to act…" Delphine whispered. "Are you insane, Detective? Coming here like this? You're endangering Cosima and the others as well as yourself."

"I have to know what's going on with Rachel…And Beth."

"Beth?" Delphine blinked at him as he released her. "Detective, Beth is gone…Dead. It was Beth who killed herself, not another clone. God knows, certainly not Rachel."

"I've spoken to Beth…As Rachel." He insisted. "I know it's her."

"Arthur…" Delphine sighed.

"She believes it, Delphine and she knows things only Beth knows. She acts as Beth would in all the right ways Sarah missed. So I have to know…Is she crazy? Acting? Or is it real?"

"It's nonsense, Arthur. If Rachel is claiming to be Beth…She's trying to manipulate you."

"I have to be sure, Delphine. Isn't it possible Dyad…Leekie…Was trying something you knew nothing of?"

"It's more likely Rachel is insane…Or Beth killed her and took over her life…But neither can be true, Arthur. Ferdinand had doubts about Rachel, too. We had her tested…" she paused.

"And?"

"Rachel's unique sequences…It is Rachel Duncan. I'm sorry."

"I still need to see her files…And Leekie's…Anything on advanced experimentation…Telepathy, maybe…"

Sigh… "Arthur…"

"I can't drop it till I know."

"Very well…" she shrugged. "But lets not get you arrested…The girls would never forgive me."
