Orphans Beloved: "Beth Rhymes With Death…"
Summary: Like my Immortal Beloved and Sheldon Swifties bits in my Buffyverse and Sheldonverse, these are fragments and short bits, some longer…Just to fiddle with ideas, possibly forming longer tales later.

Part XXVI…
A few miles outside Thompson, Manitoba…
"Could you please put the lights back on now, He…Donnie…" Rachel, attempting to sound urgent, but naturally coming off demanding… "We're safe now, I'm sure we've fooled them…Honey…And this is dangerous. Especially while talking on the phone. Uh, we'll hurt someone…Sweetheart."
"Donnie! Don't you listen to that bitch!" Ally suddenly cried. "Pedal to the medal and get us outta here!"
"I'm just trying to keep us from going off this road, you idiots!" Rachel fumed.
"You're trying to steal my body and deceive my husband, you witch from Hell! And I'll send you back personally if I have to. Drive, Donnie!"
"Amazing." Helena shook head, head turned to stare at Ally's anxious, then Rachel's exasperated, expressions. "And I have seen many amazing things, brother Donalds…Best to keep lights off, I'd say. We are still being sought for, I'ms sure."
"Right…Anyway, Cosima…They're at it again, both trying to talk…" Donnie, explaining to phone as he tried to watch the dark, icy road.
"I coulds…" Helena began her driving request again, for the third time…
"No!...No!" Rachel or Alison, more or less in unison.
"I am a good driver…I learned the motor bike in one hour." Helena pouted.
"Maybe later…" Donnie, hastily but kindly… "Cos…What do we…? Uh-huh…Yeah…."
"What's Cosima suggesting?" careful tone. "Donnie, darling…" pasted winsome look.
"Enough, sestra…" Helena, calmly. "Alison, you there? We will get this done. Sestra Cosima is big with the Science…"
"How comforting." Rachel, coldly. "You both should know that if you do anything that threatens me…"
"Sestra Ally would rather be dead. So she has said." Helena, calm stare back. "We will chase you out of her, devil from Hell. Bride of the Frankenstein."
Why couldn't I have wound up in someone useful? Like the psychotic no one would miss, Rachel thought with sigh.
"That's not true. We'd miss Helena, we love her." Alison pronounced, proudly.
"Thanks, sestra." Helena reached to pat.
"Can you hear her when she's just thinking?" Donnie asked. "Cosima?" he addressed the phone. "We think…Yeah…"
It would behoove you for both our sakes to listen to me, Alison…
"I don't listen to lying, evil scheming cheats…" Alison, aloud, firmly.
Your husband and children's lives depend on it…Rachel, sternly.
"Donnie! She's threatening the kids again!"
For Heaven's sake, you little fool…Listen to me…Ferdinand will kill us all if…
"Something about Ferdinand, killing us all!" Ally called.
Concentrate, Duncan…You're more than a match for this silly…
"She's trying to push me out! Donnie!"
"Rachel! That is not going to happen!" Donnie cried. "You leave Ally alone in there or help me, I'll run us right off this road. Or give us up to the Castors."
"Fine! I'll stop. But you're all fools!" Rachel fumed. "I'll watch you die, all of you…And Ferdinand will keep me…"
"Not if he doesn't know about you…" Donnie pointed out. "Cosima?" he returned to the phone… "How could…? Really?"
"Your only hope is that he does and that I'm willing to deal." Anxious mutter…
"No, your hope is that we find way to get you out and don't kill you, sestra, to get you out." Helena, matter-of-factly. "Now pleased to be quiet. Oh, and you are under arrest of Officer Elizabeth Childs, Toronto PDs. The charges…Murder, kidnaps, the assault, bodys theft…and sos on."
"So maybe kinda like that quantum teleportation thing…" Donnie was asking… "But why…"
"I didn't steal this body, I was kidnapped out of mine." Rachel, grimly. "By the way…"
"That's enough." Ally, firmly. "This is my body and I'm running this show." Pause.
"She wants to know where her body is and if she's dead."
"Toronto, where we left her, I guess." Donnie noted.
"Wait, what do you mean I seemed very much alive and far nicer?" sudden querulous tone.
"I said that's enough! Ask me and stop grabbing at my vocals." Pause…
"They keep going in and out between them…But I don't think Rachel can do more yet than talk." Donnie noted to the phone. "Yeah, if we can keep Paul and his nuts off our tail…"
"She wants to know what do I mean, Beth may have her body…" Ally called.
"I don't think we can be any clearer…" Donnie shrugged.
"Beth's alive…She really is alive!" Ally gasped. "Donnie, that's what this means! Oh, when I heard her talking, at the hospital…Uh, Rachel says that's insane."
"Sos is human cloning…" Helena noted, high-mindedly.
"She says she is not going gently into that good night…" Ally noted.
"Dylan Thomas…Nice." Donnie nodded. "But I don't give a damn how you go, Rachel, so long as you go. Ally? Let us know if she gets any more control."
"Are you saying…?" Ally began… "Listen, you high gloss tramp…Take your 'it's a compliment's and shove em up your British ass. My husband doesn't need your… You!? You couldn't get Donnie to notice you if you pranced around naked like that time with that louse Paul. Sarah told us about that…How desperate were you? I know she said Paul seemed just embarrassed. " arch look.
"Miserable Canuck bitch!" cry. "If I wanted him…Or Paul…"
"What's…" Donnie stared at the rear view mirror…
"Is only naturally…Rachel is attracted to you like all of us…" Helena noted to a bemused Donnie. "If were not for angels and sestra Ally, I'd be alls over you and your meaty bones. Gods know, Sarah…You would already have done the deed of darkness multipley, but she is good sestra. I would be betting even sestra Cosima…"
"Do we really have to talk about this?" Ally…Or Rachel…Frowned.
….
Thompson, Colonel Dierden's HQ…
"Yes, Director…They escaped the airport." Paul noted to his phone in hand.. "We had them on a local highway, headed southeast but then lost them, for now. Oh, sir…" he eyed his corporal/aide who'd been nervously trying to eye him. "Dr. Coady wished to file a complaint against… Ah. Thanks, sir. It wasn't difficult, all the men backed me up to a man. Yes, sir, confined and incommunicado. Yes, sir…I agree on that, keep the Yanks out of it." Thin smile. "But I regret, sir, that…Yes, Director. We'll keep after her and her helpers. Sir, she will be intending to go for Toronto. Perhaps, sir…Yes, sir. I've a contact with Ms. Manning's foster mother, sir. She knows it's in Sarah and the child's interests. Yes, sir, thanks sir. All right, sir." He closed the phone.
"Seems Dr. Coady doesn't have quite so many friends as she'd thought." He gave the corporal a wry grin. "It's a terrible thing to get older and forgotten. Sometimes even complete dedication isn't quite enough. Be grateful you live in a small country, Corporal. People don't forget one so easily. Which can also have its drawbacks."
"Yes, sir." Pause, cogent stare.
"Yes?"
"What'll happen…To her, sir?"
"Helena remains our prize…And we continue to seek her for Queen and Country and the greater good, whatever that may be this week. But if you meant the good Doctor…" careful stare, shrug… "Best not to inquire into that, Corporal. The Yanks may decide to take her back but she's an unperson as far as we're concerned."
"Yes, sir."
"Someone will be sent for her, the rest is up to her people and our superiors and those they choose to negotiate with."
"Yes, sir."
"And here I am, telling you more than you probably wanted to know. But you had worked with her, at times."
"I did, sir. But…"
"Only following orders…" thin smile… "Like us all, Corporal. What's the latest on the fair lady and our gallant knights seeking her?"
"We're searching the roads to the west of Thompson, nothing so far. Helicopter and jeep, foot patrols."
"Pull out all the stops, thermal scans, overflies, the whole deal…If questions come up from the civils, give them the armed, dangerous, and biohazard infected, crazy escapee recruit story. After all, it's not all that far from the truth…Helena is armed, dangerous, and a biohazard but for the infection. If she's really with the Hendrixes, and gets any further, we may not be able to stop her north of Toronto. And then it's a Leda problem."
"We'd give her up, sir? The cure? To the Leda?"
"No choice, treaty obligations…And yes, corporal…" smile. "While I'd try to protect you and the men, our heads, particularly mine, would be on the chopping block, maybe literally, kind as the Director has been regards our failures to date."
He chuckled.
"Cannot imagine Helena hanging out with Donnie and Alison Hendrix…That would be a sight to see."
