The Look in Her Eyes, Chapter 15

Scene 1
"Eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth…" Sebastian's voice could be heard from the conference phone.
"…Life for a life." Carmen said still looking down, as she hung up.
"Who does that punk think he is?" Esteban threw his cigar to the wall. "Contracting with a law enforcement agency to bring down one of our own, is breaking the Code."
There was obvious discomfort amount the elite but in Carmen's mind there was a plan brewing. She decided to scribble some notes on a paper in front of her. Years of experience at her back made this type of task soothing.
"Services rendered." She finally said, looking up at them. The shadows played a straight line over her eyes, eyes that have a look of delight and hunger.
Anik had been quiet during the commotion. He simply smiled at her, "Much obliged."
"This is the plan and what I need from each of you."
After much discussion and planning, everyone was up to the task.
"Do we have an accord?" Carmen asked to no one in particular. They all took leave in order of their respective numbers as a sign of agreement.
Scene 2
"Well, it has been 3 days," Zack said in his tree disguise. "Do you think she will show up? I hope not."
"She will." Sebastian was stationed on a van on the far side of the plaza of De Mare. He had a clear look of the fountain from there.
"Tell me I'm doing this because I'm the only one available and not because of my training time with Carmen." Ivy was in the shadows, trying to spot Dustin's car and handling a small present.
"Na, it is because you are the skinniest of all of us." Kevin was strolling the park grinning at this.
"Focus, please. This is to nerve wrecking to be joking around." Lastly, Chief was monitoring all the live feeds.
As soon as he said that, a black car parked near Ivy. Unaware of her, the occupants stepped out of the car. Dustin and his pals started to walk towards the plaza.
"On three." was all Ivy needed to say for the rest of the team to understand. The game was on.
Scene 3
"Hum, looks like I'll be home early tonight." Kevin said as he walked on the plaza with the newspaper in front of him. Suddenly he felt an arm circling his and for a moment he was about to flip it out when he smelled her perfume.
"You know," Carmen strolled alongside him. "You were the one getting me in trouble back then."
"Guess I haven't changed."
"Not one bit." She lurched him forward so that her other arm was over him, gun in hand. BAM
The shot it one of Dustin's pals on the thigh as people started to flee the plaza. Dustin had his rifle out already and had been pointing to Kevin's heart, but Carmen's intervention made him shoot a tree behind them. She continued to fire aiming at the lightbulbs of the street plaza, showering him and his men with glass shards.
Dustin caught off guard by this action stopped to look around giving time to Carmen and Kevin to hide behind a tree.
"You think you can just hide from me?" Dustin yelled. "I'm not in one of your little games, bitch. YOU are in mine!"
"Now that was unexpected." Kevin dropped the newspaper.
"What I didn't expected where you guys here. This complicates things a bit."
"Well, you know us, we don't deal with criminals and when we do, we betray them."
"I will remember next time."
Scene 4
"Done." Ivy said while slipping past Dustin's car towards where Zack and Sebastian where.
"It up to you Kevin." Sebastian said.
Scene 5
"Chief couldn't leave you here alone." Kevin said, as he heard Sebastian's confirmation.
"I'm not alone. I have… friends… sort of." She took aim of her gun towards Dustin's men and blew the hand of one while got another on his leg.
BOOM. One of Dustin's cars blew up on the other side of the plaza incapacitating 4 of his men leaving them on the floor passed out.
"Damn, what the hell is happening. Carmen doesn't play like that." Dustin yelled.
"But I do." Anik yelled from afar.
At the sight of Anik, Dustin knew he had been set up. The elites where here and he was going down. He panicked and aimed back at the tree that Carmen and Kevin where. Firing at it all he had.
The elite's Hannah and Marylin men grabbed some of Dustin's men and tied them up near the fountain and kept working at it. Esteban had eyes on Carmen and she on him waiting for her signal to really kick it up a notch.
Scene 6
Dustin emptied his rifle on the tree and signaled his last remaining men to get him a reload and to start gunning her down. As he turned back to them he saw Sarah walking with her Baretta's in hand from one direction and Hugo walked with a snipper rifle in another direction. His blood froze a moment.
"Take care of the bitch and her dog," He growled at his men. "Carmen is MINE!"
"Men and their possessiveness," Carmen said as she drew out her other Matchmaster, smiling at Esteban. "Let's have fun."
"By the way." Kevin said. "You should let him leave." She looked at him suspiciously. "Just a hunch." He winked back.
When Esteban saw Carmen smile, he popped up from his bush and started firing at Dustin's men. Hugo and Sarah rallied them up with gunshots. The firing was both ways but Sarah and Hugo managed to injure a few and Esteban was taking care of the rest.
At Kevin's remark, Carmen formulated a new plan, relaying the info to her colleagues in code with a simple say. "Just me." At this, no one aimed at Dustin, Carmen had something up her sleeve for him, and him alone. Carmen popped out from the tree and fired at Dustin's feet. He couldn't recover nor take aim as she was relentless. He fired out of spite in her direction hopping to hit her but missed every time. Kevin didn't want to miss the action and took precise aim at him buying his time.
Dustin's men were falling one by one, all of them seriously injured. At Carmen's orders, they weren't going to be killed, not her style. No one was near the plaza, ACME had opened up a communication with the local police about it. They had the playground to themselves.
Carmen's assault was forcing Dustin back towards his now fallen men, but he still continued firing until. BAM! The riffle was shot from his grip, he saw Kevin smiling behind the tree. Panic rose to his mind and started to flee towards where Carmen was directing him with her shots. He raced back to his car and started the engine. It roared to life and he floored the gas pedal to get as far away and as fast as possible.
Carmen stopped her assault and ordered Sarah and Hugo to stop.
"You letting him go?" Esteban said.
"You aren't the only ones rendering me their services."
Esteban bowed at her, he signaled Anik and the other elites and they left the premises as incognito as ever. Carmen smiled at Kevin and as she gave him a kiss, he heard a loud metal sound near the fountain. The fountain was lifting into the air, a rope attached to the bottom was rising and at the end was Carmen's hand. She was lifted up into the air, with the fountain in tow.
"How does it feel to help me steal a real thing for once?"
"Ha, makes my eyes wet with emotion."
She laughed it off as her silhouette was lost in the sky.
"Now that… I wasn't expecting." Ivy said through the coms.
"It is Carmen Sandiego after all, wouldn't have expected less." Zack said. "Oh and if you guys would like to join us, we need some assistance over here."
"Coming."
Scene 7
A few kilometers away, Sebastian pulled on to the small narrow street as Dustin raced towards an exit. He couldn't stop his car in time and slammed on the van.
"Good thing this is armor plated." Sebastian said as he opened the door. "Oh well, what do we have here."
Dustin was recovering from the crash and dropped out of the door. His head was heavy and he was coughing from the airbag's hit.
"Nothing," he managed to say. "You.. got nothing on me. I … was just driving and you got in the way. I'm innocent."
"Well, if you don't mind a man of the law to inspect your car for any fouls?"
"Go ahead, and make my night Sebastian. I'll we walking out of any jailtime you want to impose on me. I have nothing to do with the Carmen fiasco you and your men did back there. She had the elites work for her. It is HER you need to get, not me. I'm cool."
"Really?" Sebastian was lighting something in the back of Dustin's car with his flashlight. "Then what is that in the back of the car?"
Dustin's eyes grew in size. How the hell did that got in there? "That is not mine."
"Why don't we have a little chat at ACME HQ about this… jailtime?" Sebastian cuffed Dustin while he was pinned on the back glass of his car. The last thing Dustin saw of his freedom was the Mask of Xul in his back seat.

Ok.. I'm not good with action scenes, even though I love action movies. The end is sooooooo near…. I can feel it! And I don't want it to end!
