Good news...I'm back! First, I need to apologize to those who have waited a long time for this story to continue (I've had a couple inquires). I am so sorry. For awhile my life has gone from one change to another. Life has kept me pretty occupied and it took me some time to catch my bearings and even my breath. I lost my focus and my muse. I did not lose sight of this story though. There have been many moments that I've thought about how I can unfold the rest of this story. I hope not to disappoint. With that said, enjoy this new chapter to Port James. Let me know what you think!

Sinbad soon left her quarters after they woke up and finished kissing. Judging by the way he groaned when he pulled away from her and stood up, he left sooner then he wanted; sooner than they both wanted. He mumbled an explanation; something about promising to meet with one of the crew members this morning. Bryn only nodded her head silently in understanding of needing to keep his word. Once he shut her door behind him, she was left sitting on the edge of her small bed.
Bryn inhaled deeply and let out a breath. Speaking of meeting someone, she thought. I need to talk to Riley. She didn't forget what Anders shared with her before; the questions Riley had asked. She thought it was best that she confronted him about that sooner than later. She didn't like the idea of him asking the crew about her. That definitely needed to stop.
Determine to get that task over with today; she stood up to wash up and change.

Less than an hour later, Bryn silently made her way down the stairs from the top deck to the galley. She found Anders and Firouz sitting across from each other at one of the long tables. Both turned their heads to the sound of her footsteps to look in her direction.
"You look perplexed." Firouz observed out loud.
Bryn walked towards them with her arms crossed in front of her and rested her hip against the edge of the wooden table. Her forehead creased in confusion, "I suppose I am." She paused in thought and could see that they were waiting for her to elaborate. "I've been looking for Riley all over this ship and he is nowhere to be found."
"Did you look in our..." Anders cleared his throat, "My cabin?"
"Yes! That was the first place I tried this morning. I knocked and got no response, so I figured it was empty." Bryn shrugged.
"When I got up this morning, he was there still sleeping. I don't know how late he made it to the room last night." Anders shook his head in thought, "He is probably still in there. That is the last time I've had eyes on him, now that I think of it". He turned to Firouz, "Have you seen him?"
Firouz took a moment to think about when the last time he did see Riley. "Not since yesterday evening".
Bryn straightened, "Well I am going to give it one more shot. If he is not there, he probably went overboard", she joked and left them with small smile. "Wish me luck."

Riley was sitting upright against the pillow on his mattress when he heard light knocking on the cabin door. He knew it was not Anders, he would not knock. The distinct sound of a woman's voice told him exactly who it could be. He sighed and shook his head. There she is again, he mused to himself. He heard her earlier and purposely refused to answer.
Sinbad told him to keep away from her and that is exactly what he decided to do; at least for now. He decided it would probably be best to avoid both of them all together on this ship. The Captain was in a foul mood last night and he didn't care to witness it again anytime soon; especially if he was the cause of it, which is the most likely reason while on board.
"Riley? Are you in there?" Bryn called through the door.
Riley turned the page of the book in his hands and shook his head; determined not to answer. Nope.
Bryn knocked again. "I wanted to talk." She hesitated, resting her shoulder against the doorframe, silently convincing herself to just open the door. "I'm coming in." She prayed he was decent.
Riley's head shot up at her warning and he tossed the book onto the mattress before standing up. He was just getting to the door when it opened.
He surprised her. She did not expect him to be standing right there when she opened it. She also did not expect to be taken by the arm and pulled in. The door closed behind her quickly. "Hey! Easy!" His grip on her was strong and too tight for her liking. She looked at him as if he were crazy.
He released her arm and took a step back, looking at her apologetically. He crossed his arms in front of him, "What can I do for you?"
"I've been looking for you all over this ship." She explained. She pointed her thumb over her shoulder. "Why did you pull me in like that?" She studied him and she could sense he seemed agitated. "Are you alright?" She asked concerned.
He didn't want to explain to her that he was avoiding the Captain of the ship and her. "I am quite fine." He smiled and gestured towards one of the beds, "Have a seat. I am curious of what is it that you would like to talk about if it takes knocking on my door twice".
Bryn moved to one of the beds to sit as Riley moved to sit on the opposing bed in front of her. He did hear me knock earlier, she thought. She made eye contact with him and went straight to the point. "I'm curious of what you've been asking the crew about me". She watched him raise his brows and nod his head, confirming that fact was indeed true.
"Not happy about that I see," Riley spoke out loud more to himself. He wondered who relayed that detail to her.
"Anything you want to know, you should be asking me." Bryn pointed to herself. "It is a little unsettling to hear of anyone asking questions of me; especially after what they know of me".
"I apologize for my curious mind." Riley replied and nodded his head. "You are right; I shouldn't be talking about you behind your back". He sensed that she was a little uncomfortable with anyone knowing of her abilities. He assumed that is what she was referring to. He didn't blame her, after what she just went through with Jarvis.
She adjusted to sit more comfortably, "What do you want to know?" She calmly asked.
"Excuse me?" Riley was caught off guard by the question.
"I am not needed elsewhere on the ship at the moment. Now is your opportunity to ask me anything." Bryn explained with an encouraging smile. "Better me than the crew," she emphasized.
"Alright," Riley understood that she was serious and agreed. "We do have some down time out here". A smile formed on his lips as he looked at her.

By midafternoon, Doubar watched his brother up on deck. He could see that his features were not relaxed. He followed Sinbad's gaze and had a feeling he knew exactly what was on his mind. Dark clouds were forming nearby and they were sailing right towards them.
He stepped closer to Sinbad, to be heard, "Looks like we are in for some rough seas tonight".
Sinbad nodded his head, "I wish it could have waited at least one more day. We'd be in port by then. I don't think there is any way we can avoid this."
"Do you want me to take the tiller tonight?" Doubar thought of who would be on duty. "Bryn knows she can't hold the ship through a storm".
"This strong wind is going to get us there sooner than we think. Depending on when we meet it, plan on covering for Anders and I will take the late shift." Sinbad concluded. He watched Doubar nod his head in agreement, "Prepare the crew for the possibility of all hands being on deck tonight. This could be a late night for all of us."
Doubar stole a glance at Sinbad before leaving his side to inform the crew, "I hope this doesn't ruin your plans with Bryn in port".
The Captain sighed, "I will worry about that when the time comes."
"You are going to go forward with whatever you've got planned and spend time with her, right?" Doubar stated more then asked.
"Of course," Sinbad replied. He remained silent. He still had no idea how to go about what he wanted to say. He could see his brother looking at him, not convinced, "Don't worry I am not going to let a storm stop me from telling her how I feel".
A smile appeared on Doubar's bearded face, "Good! That is what I wanted to hear." He chuckled and gave Sinbad a hard slap on the back, "I wasn't sure there. You haven't mentioned it these past few days. I was beginning to think you've changed your mind about it all."
"Never," Sinbad confirmed seriously with a slight shake of his head. That very idea was ridiculous to him. "I can't think of anything that would change my mind".

Riley sat hunched forward, elbows on his knees, across from Bryn. He stared at her curiously. He was just told of how she came to be a member of Sinbad's crew and her loss of past memories. "You are a mystery, indeed."
"You can say that." Bryn nodded. "I've been called worst."
"You've just learned of your…" He gestured towards her hands, "abilities since joining the crew?"
"Basically, since I woke up from that island." She confirmed. "Since then, a few memories have returned slowly. I don't know how or why."
"You were holding back from him weren't you?" Riley realized, "He knew of your powers and he was trying to use you. You must know enough to control it".
"Only a little bit,' she answered sadly. It was her turn to look at him curiously, "Jarvis never told you about me? I thought he would have, considering you worked for the man and he hired you to..." she let out a small laugh, "lock me up."
Riley smiled, "No, he never was much for sharing all the important details" He sat up straighter, "About that slight detail of me attempting to lock you away; I hope you are not holding that against me".
She looked at him pointedly, "I am lucky you made the right choice by coming aboard. I, for one, am actually grateful. You could have handed me over to Jarvis." A look of disgust was planted on her face.
Riley scoffed, "Not with Sinbad so near. I made the smart choice, in that sense". Her face told him that she silently agreed. "He is quite taken with you", he noted out loud. "I may have been wrong about what I said to you in Carthage about him. Perhaps he is not the same person I knew long ago after all".
Bryn nodded her head. Hoping what he was now saying was the truth. She recalled the last conversation she had with Dermott the night before. "You two argued last night?"
"Only a little. It was very minor." Riley answered with a grin. He could see she had something on her mind. "What? I think it is fair for you to ask me some questions now."
Bryn agreed with that statement. "Why are you here? You told me in Carthage that you liked it there, that you enjoyed your job, but you left." She appeared confused, "Why?"
He grinned, "I am taking your advice," his hand gestured forward to lay out her words," Something along the lines of breathing the sea air again? I decided that it was time for a change." He spoke honestly, shaking his head, "I couldn't work for Jarvis anymore. He went too far and I don't think we saw the worst of him".
"I am glad you see it that way." Bryn replied.
"I am not as bad as they say." He pointed towards the door, referring to anyone on the other side of it. "I am curious of what the crew has told you".
Bryn was quick to answer, "That you shouldn't be trusted and that you and Sinbad tend to disagree".
Riley smiled, "I do appreciate your honesty." I like that in a woman, he admitted silently to himself.
She wasn't finished, "I was also told that you are quick thinker and a good swordsmen."
"I didn't prove that very well yesterday morning." Riley recalled the match against Sinbad.
"From what I saw of it, you held your ground pretty well, if you ask me."
There was a moment of shared silence and Bryn soon felt uncomfortable, realizing that he was looking at her differently. She stood up slowly ready to leave.
Riley followed her lead and stood up too. "You don't have to go." He was enjoying himself; talking to her.
"I think that is enough questions for the day." Bryn stated. She took a few steps backward, still facing him as she slowly made her way to leave. The door opened behind her and she backed into it. Startled, she glanced wide eyed behind her.
It was Anders. "Sorry!" He felt bad for hitting her with the door abruptly. "Are you okay?"
Bryn shrugged it off, "I am fine." She stepped aside to let him into his own cabin.
Anders shook his head implying he didn't need to go in. He looked at Riley, "Doubar wanted me to get you." He glanced at Bryn as well, "You too."
"What's going on?" Bryn asked.
"We've got rough seas ahead." Anders informed them.

The worst thing about sailing through a storm out at sea was not being able to hear his crew clearly through the howling winds and the roaring waves. Sinbad looked up at the crows' nest of his ship; Firouz stood there, his hands clutching the rail. The purpose of his position up there was to warn the crew of heavy swells surrounding the ship. High above and apart from everyone else, it was a wonder he could hear him call out to them in this weather. Luckily, Sinbad knew how to read his long-time crew member well. Firouz knew exactly where to gesture his arm to communicate in case the crew could not hear him.
Riding atop a high wave, the ship was about to dip down. "BRACE YOURSELVES!" Sinbad yelled to his crew.
The impact caused water to splash into the bow of the ship; splashing just about everyone up on deck. There was nothing the crew can do to keep dry, especially with the heavy rain coming down on them.
"My god! That is cold!" Anders yelled between chattered teeth. He got the brunt of that wave. As he felt sea water drip from his hair and down his face, he looked at Doubar, "Why is it that we shouldn't go below again?" He yelled.
"It beats getting thrown around down there!" Doubar replied.
"Believe me! You are much safer up here. I have been known to get banged up below deck during a storm a time or two." Riley loudly interjected.
"That explains a lot!" Doubar returned with a grin.
Anders looked to the crew and did a double take at Bryn. Like all of them, her stance was strong, legs apart and knees slightly bent to keep balance. She had a hand on one of the lines. "You don't seem at all fazed!"
"Oh, I am fazed; just not really complaining about it!" She answered loudly, slightly teasing him. The look he gave her was priceless. She was telling the truth, with her clothes drenched from the constant waves rising past the ship's rail and the wind hitting her, she was cold too. Her body was tensed by the cold; it surprised her that Anders couldn't see her shivering like the others.
Firouz captured their attention once again. His yell was broken by the wind, "…NOT GOOD!"
Sinbad gripped onto the tiller tightly, holding it as straight as he could. He stole a glance upward at Firouz, searching for him through the rain. "TALK TO ME, FIROUZ!"
He saw Firouz's mouth form into words but he could not hear his friend through the storm. He knew exactly what was about to happen. He could feel the ship rising atop a wave; hear the hull of his ship groaning. "You can do it. Just a little bit longer…keep steady," Sinbad whispered to The Nomad.
In one second, the wave seemed to have hesitated and then he could feel his ship dive forward, "HANG ON!" He called to his crew.
The ship dropped heavily and was surrounded by a froth of white water. All Sinbad could do as he held onto the tiller was watch his crew stand tense; prepared for the beating of the cold water on their backs.
Damn it! Movement caught the Captain's attention. A crate must have gotten loose from its ties and it was sliding across the soaked deck. He took a quick glance at its path and could see Rongar was in for a surprise. "Rongar! Behind you!" He yelled.
It happened all too fast. Rongar heard the warning and turned just as the crate collided with his side. A sharp edge ripped its way through his shirt and he felt the sting of it cutting his skin immediately. He tried to push the crate away with his arms but the impact caused him to lose his balance, which weakened his strength.
"We got it!" Riley and Anders saw what happened and quickly rushed to his side; fighting to keep their own legs balanced as the ship moved beneath them.
Rongar nodded his head in gratitude as they pushed the crate away to rest against the rail. He looked down at his side and could see blood staining his shirt.
"Are you alright?" Riley looked to the Moor. Rongar nodded, answering with a slight smile of assurance. He would be fine. It was only a cut.
Anders looked at Riley and raised his voice to be heard, "What was it you said about being much safer up here?"
"I guess it depends on the ship!"

The storm lasted through the night and so did the crew. By the time the sun was kissing the horizon, the sea was finally calm. Sinbad looked at his worn out crew and ordered them to try to get as much rest as they can to make up for the loss sleep. He heard no arguments. The majority went below deck quietly.
Doubar and Bryn hung back, "What about you?" Doubar asked.
"Come back in an hour or two. Get some rest. The sun will be higher and by that time, I should be able to see land." Sinbad explained. "I will be fine. I too will rest before we reach shore."
Doubar nodded his head in understanding, "Aye," He was happy to hear that news, "I think we are all ready for land after last night's ride." He laughed, "Especially Anders!"
Sinbad smiled, "There was one point he was looking a little green. He did well for his first storm."
"Better than most," Doubar stated. He turned towards the hatch as he spoke, "See you in a while, brother."
As Doubar aimed to go below deck, Bryn took a step closer to Sinbad. She placed a hand on his shoulder as she spoke, "Are you okay?"
Sinbad nodded his head. "Yes, now that the waters have calmed down. That storm was more intense than I expected it to be". He gave her a reassuring smile. "I am just glad you and everyone are all right".
"Of course we're alright". Bryn stated with a slight smile, "You were here". She took another step closer to him, wrapped her arms around his neck and gave him a long kiss.
All Sinbad could do was hold on to the tiller and move his own lips against hers. When they broke apart, he looked at her questioningly. "What was that for?"
Bryn released her hold off him and shrugged as she took a step back. "It was for me".
Sinbad smiled at her answer. He knew he needed to do something for himself as well. "After we get into port, later this evening, will you have dinner with me?" He continued, "I don't mean with me and the crew as usual, just you and me".
Bryn nodded her head at the idea and smiled. She was surprised at the invitation. He's never asked that of her before, "Okay", was all she could say.

The ship was finally docked into port. Sinbad ordered his crew to check for any damages from last night's storm. He was pleased to hear that the only concern was a few torn lines. After all the lines, sails, and what little cargo they had left was secure, the crew had the freedom to go as they please. Sinbad watched his crew line up to disembark; all eager to be on land. "We'll leave on the third day!" He called to them. He smiled. "Don't get into any trouble!"
Firouz stood beside him and spoke low. "Well?" He nodded his head towards Bryn, who had Dermott on her arm. They watched the falcon release himself from her to fly into port.
Doubar hung back as well, understanding why Firouz lingered. He looked at his brother, "Shall we keep her company for a while?" He whispered.
Sinbad nodded his head. Even though she knew he wanted to have dinner with him tonight, he still wanted to surprise her. "Please. I have an old friend in town that I need to find who may be of some help." He had very little time to explain because now she was turning to look at them.
She looked at the three of them questioningly, "Are you guys coming?" She gave them all a smile; evident that she was looking forward to getting to know Port James.
Firouz was the first to step forward. "Yes! It is about time we get off this ship!" He replied cheerfully. He walked towards her and steered her by the arm. "Let's see what this town has to offer these days."
xxxx
Sinbad noticed Riley linger on the dock as he watched Bryn, Doubar and Firouz make their way towards the center of town. He had a feeling he was waiting for him.
He was right. It was not long till Riley walked a long side him; following his stride. "You don't have to worry", he said immediately.
Sinbad continued walking and glanced at him, "I am not at all worried," he responded with a grin, "As you can see, there are plenty of ships in port…"
"...and I will have no problem gaining passage out of port", Riley finished for him.
Sinbad nodded his head and smiled, "Exactly".
"I do have one question."
"What is that?" Sinbad asked patiently.
"Where is your next port of call?" Riley then reacted to the Captains knowing look he just gave him. He shrugged. "I want to keep my options open!"
Sinbad shook his head, "No no no! The Nomad is not an option". They survived one journey together, he wasn't sure if they could survive two. His patience was already wearing thin with this man.
Riley smiled and lifted his palms up in defeat. "Alright! I know. We had an agreement". He figured he would just ask Doubar later about it anyways. He excused himself. "I'll be seeing you later, Captain. I've got to see who is in port that can be of any use".
Sinbad nodded his head in agreement. "Good luck", he said honestly to Riley's retreating form.
