"Damage people are dangerous. They know they can survive."

– Josephine Hart

It was nearly dark when Happy pulled his Harley into the driveway. Wendy's car was still parked on the road outside of his place, which didn't really surprise him. Liv and Wendy had a way of losing track of time when they were together. Happy was amazed Lyla wasn't over with them, but then again, he had just left Red Woody and she was still shooting. Happy never would have left a room full of pussy in the past but now he just wanted to be with Liv. Shit, what was happening to him? Was he pussy whipped? He was pussy whipped.

"Hey baby, I'm home." Happy called as he entered the house. Almost instantly he was hit by a familiar irony smell. A smell he knew well; blood, lots of it. Panic set in, "LIV!" Nothing…he made his way further in the house. From that moment, everything went into slow motion for him.

Happy had seen lots of bodies and blood in his time with the Sons but nothing could have prepared him for what he found in his kitchen and dining room. The first thing he noticed was his back door was no longer a pristine white color but was speckled thick with blood. There were two bodies lying on the floor next to each other. Blood pooled around both but he couldn't tell whose blood was whose. Happy's body crumpled to the floor next to Liv, her body was contorted sideways and hair thrown over face as though she was thrown backwards.

How could their story end so quickly? Happy pulled Liv into his arms. "Liv, baby. Come on." Happy sobbed.

He hadn't even realized he was crying until his tears dripped onto Liv's pale face. He tried to feel for a pulse but it was no good he was shaking too hard. Happy stopped rocking back and forth and watched Liv's chest for a rise and a fall. Was that a faint rise? Yes, there was a faint fall. She hadn't left him yet. He quickly looked over her body which was covered in blood. There was a wound on the right side of her upper chest, he pushed hard against it, trying to stop the bleeding.

"Hang in there Olivia. If not for us then for that baby." Shit, the baby. He felt like he had found out about it years ago and not just a mere few hours before. Happy knew then he needed to be strong for all three of them. He tried to push the unfamiliar feeling of panic away as he reached into his jean pocket and pulled out his cell. He needed to get Liv to the hospital. Unfortunately, he knew it was already too late for Wendy. He could tell by her pale pallor, she had been gone for a while.

Happy dialed a number he never thought he would use, he called 911. He explained to the dispatch what he came into and that he needed an ambulance. Then he proceeded to call Jax.

"Jackson?" Happy's voice stumbled.

"Hap, what's going on?" Jax asked with apprehension. Happy never called him Jackson.

"You need to get to the hospital. I need you to call Tig and have him head up there too. I'm sorry Jax."

"What the fuck is going on Happy?"

Happy looked over at Wendy, how was he going to tell Jackson that his sons just lost another mother? How could this have happened? They had left this life behind them when they went legit, was this karma coming to bite them in the ass? Losing the ones, they held so dearly?

Happy took a deep breath, "Jax, Wendy is dead. I came home to find her and Olivia both…" he looked around at the aftermath of the shooting. "Fuck Jackson they are sitting in the dining room, they were both shot. Who the fuck would do this?" Happy growled his need for vengeance growing in him.

Jackson didn't respond immediately but when he did his voice was oddly calm. "Hap, we will meet you at St Thomas."

Happy sat in the waiting room at St Thomas waiting for his brothers to get there. He rode in the ambulance with Liv to the hospital, much to the EMTs chagrin. He refused to leave her side until Liv was rushed back in the emergency room was he separated from her. Then, he was left with nothing but his thoughts. What if Liv didn't make it? What if the baby didn't make it? There were a lot of what ifs and who did this running through Happy's head. Fast footsteps pulled Happy from his thoughts. He looked up and saw his SAMCRO brothers and Lyla making their way down the hallway.

Tig took Happy by surprise when he threw him up against the wall. "What the fuck did you do? What the fuck happened?"

Happy just shook his head. "I don't know. I came home and found them. She was still alive when we got here. But…"

"But what?" Tig growled as he maintained his grip on Happy.

He didn't answer, tears just fell from his brown eyes. "I am sorry I couldn't keep her safe. I would take her place if I could." Happy couldn't bear the thought of Liv going through any more in her life, let alone losing her life. He wanted her to be safe and never feel the pain she had in her past. Happy had failed her.

Tig's grip fell lax and he collapsed on the chair next them. Happy sat back down in his unoccupied chair. All they could do was wait and what an excruciating wait it would be. All Hap could think about was what he would do if Liv and the baby didn't make it.

"Happy?" Jax pulled him from his painful thoughts. "Where did they take Wendy?" His voice oozed with pain, he was a much different man than Happy had talked to on the phone.

"I am not sure. They were still assessing the scene when they brought Liv here. The sheriff made it clear that she would be here after they were done, so I was not supposed to go anywhere." Fucking bitch should be out looking for the person who did this to the girls. "Who would do this to them? Who would want to kill them?" Happy questioned.

"Beats the fuck out of me. We've been in the clear for years now. There hasn't been a whisper of trouble or retaliation." Jax ran his hand through his hair. "What the fuck am I supposed to tell my boys? How can I tell them Wendy is dead?"

Happy was about to open his mouth to respond when a he noticed a nurse pointing a doctor in their direction. Hap stood up quickly as if that would make the doctor get to them quicker.

"Are you the family of Olivia Trager?" The exhausted looking doctor asked. "I am Dr. Johnsen, can I speak to Miss Trager's immediate family?" He looked concerned.

Tig stood and walked up next to Hap, "I'm Liv's dad and whatever you have to say, you can say it to all of us." Tig responded.

Dr. Johnsen took a deep breath, "Well we have stabilized Miss Trager and we will be taking her to shortly to repair the gunshot wound. She has lost a lot of blood and we do not know if the fetus will make it. We want to get her through the surgery before do an ultrasound to make sure things are still good there. How far along is she?"

A frown crossed Tig's face, "Wait what? Fetus?"

"She is about a month and a half maybe two months along." Happy replied. "She just found out today." Their moment of delight might already be taken from them. Their child, who hadn't even taken its first breath might already have its chance taken from it.

The doctor nodded, "We will do everything we can for Olivia and the baby. As soon as she is out of surgery I will be up and let you. She will be able to have visitors after she is out of recovery." Dr. Johnsen turned and made his way back to take care of Liv.

Happy turned back to face his brothers but he was greeted by Tig's frown. "You fucking knocked up my daughter?" His reaction was exactly what Happy was expecting.

"Tig, we were going to tell everyone but obviously we had just found out. We are still trying to adjust to the news even if we were trying." Happy sighed. He shouldn't have to justify his and Liv's actions to Tig. Sure, he might be Liv's dad but they were adults in a relationship.

"If anything happens to them…" Tig started.

"Enough Tig!" Jax barked. "You are not the only one who cares about Liv. Look around this room. These men and Lyla care just as much as you do. I am sure Hap cares more than you do. That is his old lady and baby fighting for their lives in there. So, don't fucking act like you are the only one who cares. You're not the only one who lost someone." Tig shut up after that.

Happy could see his pain over Wendy seep out of him and he didn't know what to do in response. It was a feeling that Happy was all too familiar with.

It was close to an hour later when Sheriff Jarry and a few of her lackeys arrived. She had been fucking Chibs on and off since she had become sheriff in Charming. In the beginning, she had been on their payroll but since they became legit they hadn't needed to deal with her.

"Gentleman." She greeted them and eyed up Chibs. Happy rolled his eyes, that was not the time to look to be fucked. "You want to tell me why I have a possible double homicide in Charming?"

"Triple…" Tig muttered.

"Althea, the lass isn't going to lose her fight." Chibs spoke up. "She's got a lot more to live for than just herself."

The sheriff frowned, "what exactly does that mean?"

Happy let out a low growl, questioning them was not going to help Liv. It wasn't going to find the bastard who did this to the club. And screw Tig for starting to give up on Olivia, if he wasn't her dad, he would have kicked his ass out of the hospital an hour ago.

"She's got a bun in the oven." Chibs stated.

Jarry ran her hand over her head and turned to Jax. "I'm sorry to ask you but can you go with one of my officers and identify the body of Wendy Chase?" Jax nodded solemnly and followed the officer away.

Happy prayed that he would not have to do that. He felt like he was going to lose it any minute. Was that how Liv felt when he was in the hospital after his accident? How did she do it? Liv was strong, that is how she did it, she was stronger than he would ever be.

"Happy?" Sheriff Jarry sat next to him. "You want to tell me what happened?"

He didn't want to go over it again; he had briefly told the club about what he walked into but when his voice began to crack he stopped talking. He needed to be the stoic Happy, even if he didn't feel like he could. So, no he didn't want to tell Jarry about what he found his house. He didn't want to think about it. He wanted to forget it all. He just wanted his family back.

"No. Not now." He glared back at the sheriff.

"Do you think this has anything to do with SAMCRO?" She pushed.

Happy clinched his teeth, she was pissing him off. He didn't want to fucking talk about it. He wanted to focus on Liv.

Chibs stood, "Althea, give the boy some space. He just found his fiancé and another woman shot in his house. I'll answer any questions you have."

Relief washed over Happy. He gave Chibs an appreciative nod. Happy's mind wandered to all the moments that he had missed with Liv because of his stupidity. A small smile slipped across his face when he thought about the night fate had stepped in at the club in Portland. He had been fucking stupid for leaving Liv the way he did. He should have stayed and just asked her. Happy was thankful that she fought for them the way she did. He really didn't deserve Liv but somehow, he got her.

The police finally left, they seemed to be satisfied that SAMCRO was not involved in this situation. They were going to go and speak with Happy's neighbors and see if they had seen or heard anything. Jax had left to go spend time with the boys. Happy didn't blame him. He was upset when he came back from identifying Wendy's body. He needed something to take his mind off what happened and maybe the boys would help or make it worse. Happy couldn't wrap his head around Jax's situation, nor did he want to try.

It was nearly three hours after their first meeting with the doctor before he reappeared, looking tired. Happy didn't know if he wanted to hear the news the man brought them.

"Well, she made it through surgery. Olivia is one lucky woman, the bullet missed her lung by inches. We are going to do the ultrasound here in a few minutes. Would you like to come and be with Olivia?" Dr. Johnsen asked Happy. "I do want to warn you, that Olivia is still unconscious. We have her in a medically induced coma right now because she woke up in a panic. We want her to wake up slowly after her ultrasound."

Happy stood and followed Dr. Johnsen back to Liv's room. She was hooked up to monitors and was still intubated. Happy's heart broke when he saw her, she looked so broken. No matter how much Liv had been through, how bruised she was, she never looked so defeated as she did at that moment. He wanted to be strong for her but he didn't know if he had it in him. Happy had never felt so weak or helpless before.

"I want to prepare you, Olivia has been through a lot of trauma and that can be a lot of stress on the baby. And in all honesty, she will have likely lost the baby." Dr. Johnsen stated very matter of factly.

As much as Happy wanted to tell the doctor off but he didn't, it wouldn't solve anything at this point. It was clear the doc didn't know the stubbornness of the kid's parents. He sat down next to Liv and took her hand into his; he half expected her to tighten her fingers around his, but there was nothing. Hap looked up at the screen as they started the scan. The screen was fuzzy and he had no clue what he was looking at until they came to a little blip on the screen that the ultrasonographer focused on. Happy hadn't realized he was holding his breath until he let out a loud huff when he saw the flicker on the screen. Damn right kid, prove the doctors wrong.

"That right there is a nice steady heart beat at 152 beats per minute. This is one tough baby, you have here." The nurse said as she removed the probe from Liv. "I took a few pictures for you." She handed Happy several small pictures.

Happy gazed down at the photos. "She is going to be so pissed off that I got to see the baby without her." He muttered without taking his eyes off the picture of the baby growing inside of Liv. His child didn't look like much at that moment, just a little blob, but it would soon grow into so much more. Happy's heart felt like it was going to explode, was that what it felt like to be a dad? He was filled with relief and joy, now just to get Liv better.

After the nurse and doctors left the room he turned to Liv, her monitors beeping rhythmically. "Liv, I am going to tell you the same thing you told me. Don't you dare leave me and you know for a fact I will destroy the world to get you back so just don't even think about it." Happy squeezed her hand tightly into his.

Happy must have dozed off because he woke up to the small flutter of Liv's fingers in his. The doctors had turned off her sedative medication once they realized the baby was still alive, it was too risky to keep the meds flowing.

"Liv?" Happy sat up, his arm ached from laying on it the way he had but the pain was quickly forgotten when he saw a pair of ice blue eyes staring back at him. "Baby, you're awake!" He was so relieved, the last twelve or so hours had been a such a roller coaster.

"Where am I?" Liv asked as panic rose up in her eyes.

"Shhh, it's okay you're at St Thomas." Happy tried to comfort her but he could tell he wasn't her heart monitors were beeping quicker. "Baby, it's okay." Happy placed his hand on Olivia's but she quickly pulled her hand away from his.

Tears began to fall from Liv's eyes, "Who are you? Why do you keep calling me baby? I don't understand. I want Natalie! Where is Natalie?"

What the hell was going on? Why would she want Natalie? Why didn't Liv recognize him? "Liv, you're home in Charming. Natalie is in Washington." Happy stated, hoping she was just groggy.

A loud sob slipped from Olivia's lips. "No, I was just in Washington. I don't understand…." She hiccupped. "I don't know…" She started to cry uncontrollably as a nurse walked into the room.

"Miss Trager, I need you to calm down." The nurse tried to calm Liv down, but it was to no avail. Happy just sat there helplessly and watched Liv lose her mind.

"Trager?" Liv sobbed. "My last name is Mason. My name is Olivia Mason."

"What the fuck?" Happy mumbled to himself. What the hell was going on? Did she not know who she was? She didn't know who he was or what he meant to her. Happy hadn't heard that she had brain damage after all this so what the hell was going on?

"Please Olivia. I need you to calm down and tell me what you remember." The nurse said calmly to her, "Tell me the last thing you remember."

Liv wiped the tears from her face and took a deep breath, "I was working for Natalie and I met a guy, Juan Carlos. We went out for a drink after I got off work."

Seriously?! Happy couldn't comprehend what was going on. He stood up and started out of the room. How did Liv not remember anything about them. About their baby. The last thing Liv remembered was meeting the rat. Was he in purgatory? Was this his payment for the sins of his past, always losing Liv to the rat?

A/N: Next chapter explains what is happening to Liv. I hope you all enjoyed this chapter and I hope I did it justice. It was hard to write, it was far too emotional for me. If you love Wendy, sorry I killed her off. If not, well then good ridden. I will be touching on what happens with the boys and Jax in the next chapter, please don't think I wrote them off. Poor Happy and Liv. Let me know what you thought!
