Chapter 23

Major Decisions

Vanitas looked at his brother who gave him the ask her to dance look, and so he followed suit, gave Anika a cooked smile, and held out his hand briefly,"Would you lllike to dance?"

Anika bit her lip and smiled, "Why of course I would, my prince," she joked.

He shrugged and made a small bow to humor her and took her onto the dance floor.

Now, despite how much was flowing in their heads, neither really spoke much. Because despite being friends, it was quite superficial still. Some intimate moments had been shared, but what did he know about Anika other than her attempts to be strong for those around her. He didn't know her favorite color, or much of anything else, and if both of them were going to the Mainland, they both should know more about each other.

After a few songs he gradually guided her outside and sat at the edge of the pool, being sure to avoid the adventurous classmates who decided to swim. "So, what is your favourite color?"

She hummed in contemplation, but responded quickly, "Turquoise."

"And why?" He looked at her.

"Well," she paused, "for one its the color of our sea, and its a mix of the color of the sky and the color of the earth, two things which I greatly respect. What's your favorite color?"

He nodded, "Black, and before you can say 'It's not a color!', I am going to counter that, because black is a bunch of colors mixed together, in a way, cause I know brown is too, but I still think my argument stands!"

Anika laughed, "Okay, I guess I'll take that."

"Axel told me to tell you hello by the way, Larxene got bored so they left."

"Oh, well that's very nice of him."

Namine snuck up behind the two and squealed "Hello!" Almost pushing Anika into the pool.

"Oi!" Anika turned quickly, grabbing Vanitas arm for balance, "Oh God, someone gave you the spiked punch." Her eyes became a mix of pity and humor.

"No no no," she giggled, "You two dating now?! You're so cute. And guess what! I got into the art program at that college abroad! And I heard that Roxas was going there too, for dance, which I am definitely sure he's great at!"

"You were already accepted?" The blonde's friend looked at her quizzically.

"Well it s an art school! so we had early acceptance and all that, and I got scholarship for swimming there. I am just so so so excited! You have no idea." She looked at Vanitas, "Is it true that you're going to study business? There's lots of rumors. There is this other one that says you are going to become a stripper."

The man in question chuckled, "Well the last one id definitely false, so you can get that out of your head, as for a major I am undecided."

Anika stood up, "I should get you home."

Namine furiously shook her head, "No! Xion is taking me!"

"Okay, okay, well she probably wants to stay here longer."

"I do too!"

"Anika put her hands up in surrender, "Then, if you're going to stay, I need to make sure you drink water."

"But the punch is really yummy."

"Duh, they make it so you can't taste the liquor," she looked at Vanitas who just nodded and mouthed, go ahead I'll be here.

After finding a place for Namine to relax and sober up, Anika got some snacks from the kitchen and returned to Vanitas who had waited patiently.

She sat down and began to speak, "So she's situated, and I was wondering why you were undecided."

"Hmm, I mean, Dad wants me and Sora to be happy, but would like us in business, but since Sora is guaranteed Dad's job, I can pretty much do whatever I want, in theory. And s much as I like working for Paopu Incorporated, I do not think it's something I want to do the rest of my life, and they've suggested I transfer to the main store on the mainland, but I don't know."

Anika nodded, and listened, offering him a plate of Doritos that he nibbled from as she spoke, "I understand, I don't think our parents realize the power they have over our decisions, like, I know my parents want what's best for me, but It's not what I want. Have you talked to a career counselor or anything?"

"No, I've tried the online tests, and stuff, but they all give me too many options for what I am interested in."

She laughed a little, "When being well rounded bites you in the ass, huh?"

"Exactly!" He laughed and sighed. "Would you mind coming with me to check on a side project I have been working on?"

"Sure, just let me know when, my family is out of town, so I have time to kill, and I do not think I'm scheduled to work this week."

"I'll check your work schedule when I go in. You still have to tell me the details of your family."

"I know, I know." She gave him a fake pout, "I will, I about this, after your thing you show me, I tell you."

"Deal. Shake on it." He held his hand out, and she took it quickly.

"It's a promise."
