Hey guys! I'm back, soorrrrry it took so long for me to update- but better late than never?
I do not own the teen titans. I do, however, own a teen titans shirt, but that is apparently not the same thing. whatever. I'm not bitter
Before Garfield even had a chance to get to the door it swung open revealing Steve and Rita, glaring and smiling respectively.
"Rita, Steve, this is Raven," Gar introduced gesturing to the stunned girl next to him.
"Um hi," she attempted, avoiding all eye contact with the two parental figures before her. Rita noticed this, and quickly welcomed the two inside, gesturing for them to take a seat on the long leather sofa opposite a smaller love seat that Rita and Steve situated themselves on.
"So, Garfield tells us you are in the same science class?" Rita questioned, keeping the conversation light.
"Um yeah, though it hasn't been for real long. I just moved here." Raven answered not quite meeting her eyes.
"Ah, Garfield never mentioned that. Where did you live prior to here?"
"Azarath. It's, uh, the capital of a small country in Europe."
"Hmm, I've never heard of it. Did you like it there? You must miss it I'm sure?"
Raven was almost started at her questioned. She hadn't really stopped to think about it. Did she miss Azarath? She surely missed Azar, but Azarath had always been her home, though without her mother to keep her company, was anywhere truly her home anymore.
"I do. It was the only other place I knew."
Rita nodded compassionately. "Gar was the same way when he came to live with us. Though, he was used to moving around, the people just weren't the same."
Now that was true. The people in Azarath are unlike those from anywhere else. The village was inhabited by monks, which was why when Raven's father came to claim her mother and her as his family, they had to move into the suburb like area that surrounded the city. The monks knew of the evil Trigon held inside of him, and even though they held sympathy for Raven's mother, a rape victim, and Raven, its spawn, they had no other choice but to keep them as far away from the city center as possible.
Steve cleared his throat and began to speak for the first time. "So what do your parents do?"
Other than terrorize my life? "My father runs his own business"
"And your mother?"
Raven, unsure of where her boldness came from, replied looking Steve straight in the eyes, "I live with just my father"
Rita could feel the tension in the room rising, along with Garfield, and immediately tried to clear the air.
"Oh dear, I believe it's time to eat,"
Rita, followed by Steve walked off to the dining room leaving Gar staring breathlessly at Raven.
"I'm so sorry about him" Gar tried to say, but Raven shrugged him off
"Don't worry about it." She then began to the dining room sat in a random chair.
Glancing around at the selection, Raven's stomach growled as if it hadn't received food in days. Which it hadn't.
Raven blushed as everyone's eyes turned their attention to her, filled with both worry and suspicion. To diffuse the tension, Raven quickly began spooning foods onto her plate, and the rest began to follow.
"So Miss Roth, how does your father feel about you dyeing your hair such an unnatural color?" Steve questioned toying with his fork.
Raven met his challenging eyes with her own, "Well he doesn't mind, considering that I don't dye my hair,"
This took everyone by surprise, particularly Garfield who just assumed that she dyed her hair purple like he had dyed the tips of his green
"Hm" Steve grunted stabbing his fork into a piece of meat on his plate.
Raven had purposefully avoided all meat products laid out the table, knowing Gar's distain for them. Normally she would have jumped at the chance to fill herself with protein and fat rich foods that could hold her hunger over, but she couldn't bring herself to do such in front of Gar.
Steve then began to interrogate Raven once more
"How are your grades?"
Raven responded easily, "I've all A's"
"What kind of business does your father run?'
This question was a little more difficult for Raven to answer. She couldn't just say that her father was a crime lord that killed, stole, sold drugs and committed countless crimes on a daily basis. So, she embellished her answer a tad bit
"Well it started off as a simple pharmaceutical company, though recently it's branched off into much more"
"So where's your mother?" Steve questioned knowing quite well that it was a touchy subject.
"Dad?!" Gar protested unaware of where all of this was coming from.
"She shot herself"
Not expecting that answer at all, Steve broke the intense eye contact created by the girl.
"Any more questions? I'm obviously not welcome here, so I think I'll be on my way" Raven stood from her chair and began to walk out, but both Gar and Rita stopped her.
"Raven, dear, please don't go. I'm sorry for my husband's rudeness, but I would appreciate it if you let us make up for it. "
Raven met Gar's pleading stare and conceded, making her way back to the table.
Steve was the first to speak. "I didn't realize it was like that. You see I just want the best for Garfield, and I'm not sure if you're it"
"You think you want the best for him? You don't know a damned thing about him! Did you know he's taking AP Bio, and AP zoology? And getting A's in both? Did you know he wants to study animals like his parents, not business like you? But he's too freaking scared to say anything about it! Don't you dare try to tell me I'm not good enough when you don't know a damned thing about me or our situation?"
Steve stood quickly, causing all of Raven's resolve to dissipate and her to flinch back quickly and fall to the ground, bracing herself for a hit.
Instead of responding to Raven's attack, Steve looked curiously at the girl.
His voice softened as he spoke "Raven did you think I was going to hurt you?"
Raven looked up from her position with wide eyes and stood up quickly, "No… I just. I'm sorry, it wasn't my place to speak."
Steve's soft expression didn't change as he turned to Gar "Is this true. Are you scared to talk to me?"
Gar's expression softened as well "Well, yeah. I always thought that if I didn't go in the direction you wanted me to you'd disown me and I'd have to find a whole new family"
"Aw, Gar you're our son we would never leave you," Rita said, wrapping her arms around her adopted son.
Steve turned to Raven, "I'm sorry I didn't know,"
Raven, glad the focus was no longer on her allowed herself to relax. "It's okay, but if you don't mind I'd like it if Gar could take me home now. Maybe we could do a redo of tonight sometime?"
"We'd like that," Rita answered letting go of Gar so he could leave.
Neither Raven nor Gar talked throughout the ride, both appreciating the silence. Gar did break it though, when he walked her to her door.
"Thanks for what you said at dinner. And I'm sorry for it too,"
Raven gave him small smile, leaned in and pecked him on the lips, causing Gar to immediately redden
"It's okay"
SHE KISSED HIM! see wasnt it worth the wait? nah? well whatever.. tell me what you thought! (and if you do I am come back to update within this week so what are you doing COMMENT)
