Could this be the end…? (this is also really short but... i thought giving smaller pieces at a time separates it well...?)

Rita never thought she'd see this day come. She thought she'd be long gone, but now as she held Steve. Her tears soaking into his shirt, she knew there wasn't a pain greater than what she was feeling right now. Steve was trying to hold himself together, for the sake of his wife, but even he couldn't help but shed tears. This situation was partially his fault, he thought after all. Had he not told Garfield to get Raven his son wouldn't have…. But, then who knows what would have come of Raven- he didn't want to think about that. Everything now was left uncertain, but the one thing he knew for sure: the world as they knew it was over.

When Raven opened her eyes, she was surprised. Her memory was hazy, but there was one name that kept floating to the front of her mind, she could taste it-him on the tip of her tongue: Gar. She saw Steve standing in the corner of the hospital room. Her vision was still blurry, but she could tell he'd been crying. Before Raven could ask, all of the pain from her father's beating came to her all at once. She let out a cry of pain as her body began to move with a will of its own.

The room around Steve was then filled with doctors and nurses trying to regain control of the situation.

"Take her to get a head CT," Steve heard one of the doctors yell as they wheeled the young girl away.

Steve left the down empty room and returned to Rita, placing an arm around her shoulders, and kissed the top of her head.

A doctor approached the two, and their heads immediately shot up, hoping for some sort of good news. "Mrs and Mr Dayton, He is awake,"

Relief flooded through the two, and Rita couldn't help but let out a sob of relief. As they were walking to Garfield's room, Steve inquired about Raven's condition. He knew Gar would want to know, and he really hoped to give him good news.

The doctor's face turned grim for just a split second, but Steve picked up on it anyway. "She's in surgery right now, her body is weak from the years of beatings, but our best doctors are working to save her." Steve nodded and even though he himself did not believe in god, he prayed for Raven's survival.

When Garfield opened his eyes, he if even just for a moment, wasn't sure whether or not he was alive. "It's surely bright enough in here to be heaven, but this looks like a hospital so it's definitely hell."

A nurse walking by took notice that he had awakened, and informed the doctor on his case. Next thing Gar knew he was being enveloped in hugs by both Rita and Steve.

"I am so glad you are alright," tears were flowing freely from Rita's eyes, and even though Steve's eyes were dry, Gar could tell that he'd been crying only minutes before.

Once Rita finally let go of her son, Garfield asked the question they were dreading, "Where is Raven? What happened, the last thing i remember is being on the ground with Trigon about to..." Gar didn't finish his sentence, he knew they could fill in the blanks.

Steve hesitated at first, but ultimately decided Gar wouldn't be okay until he knew exactly what was going on. "When the I got there with the police and ambulance, Raven was huddled over you, trying to see if you were okay. We couldn't find Trigon anywhere, but we did find a gun next to where you and Raven were found. By the time they got you two to the hospital, she was also unconscious. You both remained like that for three days. We, we weren't sure if you'd ever wake up," Steve paused, in an attempt to put himself together. "Raven was the first to wake up, but within minutes her body started to seize, and they had to take her up to emergency surgery."

Garfield let everything steve just said soak into his mind, every muscle in his body tensing until his fingernails began cutting into his palms. Rita noticed the blood and immediately ordered him to calm down.

"Worrying like this isn't going to help Raven, You need to stay calm so that you can be there for her when she gets out of surgery."

Garfield knew Rita was right, but feeling so helpless was not something that was helping Gar relax. "She has to be okay," he whispered, letting tears escape his eyes. Steve sat down next to him, put a hand on his shoulder and said, "Raven is the strongest girl I've ever seen, if anyone can make it through this, it's her."

Steve suddenly remembered the first time he met Raven, when she flinched at his movement. He should have done something about it then, he never should have let that girl go home.

He rose from the hospital bed, and exited the room without a word. He walked the hallway until he found one of the doctor's that had taken Raven to surgery. "Excuse me, sir, the girl that you brought up for surgery, Raven Roth, is she okay?"

With a straight face the doctor looked to him, and said as if he'd rehearsed it a thousand times, "I'm sorry-"
