Fitz and Olivia race across the Turret square vying to keep step with the many others rushing back to work and school as the chimes signaling the end of midday break ring across the city. They stop briefly to purchase a flash hydration beverage from a street purveyor for Olivia. She guzzles the refreshing potion as Fitz lovingly gazes into her eyes and rubs her back. Each time they touch their mutual craving intensifies. His desire, no his need to bond with her is the singular overriding thought in his mind. Olivia's mind too is beset with visions of coupling with Fitz. She sees their bodies united, their hands feverishly exploring one another's unchartered nakedness and their tongues gliding across every bodily crevice. She shudders at the intensity of the visions.

"Olivia, are you experiencing discomfort? Maybe you should do as the practitioner advised."

"No, I am fine my love. The anticipation of our joining is awakening unfamiliar sensations within me. I also suspect the need to share the extraordinary gifts trapped within me with you is intensifying. "

"Olivia we have spoken the vow. I see no need to wait. If you are in agreement we can go before a magistrate this very eve." Fitz implores.

"And what will we say to our families? Tradition calls for us to inform them of our commitment. We do not want to appear disrespectful in their eyes. Our union not only involves us, but our two families as well. Our journey cannot begin with the disregarding of our most precious customs."

"Olivia I agree our values must be upheld but I am worried about you. If we do not bond soon I fear you will not survive. I cannot lose you. I will not lose you!"

"Is the morrow soon enough, she asks?" He brings his brow to hers exhaling in a sigh of relief.

"No it is not soon enough, but it will have to suffice." He grins and kisses her forehead.

Fitz and Olivia enter the command center, the technicians and junior scientists are busy chatting away about reinforcing shield density around the engineering and the family decks on the ships. Olivia makes her way over to the AB techs. Once the other doyens take notice of Fitz's return, they start toward the discussion area to resume the meeting. Doyen Reston is the first to see the ear cuff on Fitz. He turns to Doyen Langston, tapping his ear and tilting his head in the direction of Fitz. Doyen Langston's eyes pop wider and a smile spreads across her face.

"AB Pope we've completed the secondary series of non-radiation based testing on the anomalous soil elements identified by Probe 4. It appears water rich in the type of alkali from our southern region or from the northern region of the new world reacts with the unidentified soil elements. However, it is unclear exactly what type of reaction is taking place as microscopic analysis reveals only marginal absorption. No noxious fumes, increased radioactive output or other stimulate growth activity is produced. We suspect either another element or combination of elements may be necessary to generate a full reaction." AB Tech Ethan eagerly reports.

As Olivia chats with the AB techs, she notices out of the corner of her eye that Quinn is staring and smiling at her. Quinn moves past the other techs and grabs Olivia's hands, bows slightly and says rather loudly "joyous and fruitful blessings on you Olivia Pope. Quinn then embraces Olivia, "joyous and fruitful blessings on you"; she repeats as a lone tear slowly rolls down her cheek. Everyone and everything within earshot of the two friends screeches to an abrupt halt. All eyes turn to a radiant but a somewhat tired looking Olivia whose happiness is clearly evident. Olivia remains reserved, as she never desires to be the center of attention. Fitz sensing her uneasiness moves to stand by her side. At first, the room is confused as to why the doyen is in such close proximity to Olivia, then an observant but momentarily speechless Quinn notices Fitz's ear cuff. "Joyous and fruitful blessings to you also doyen, she says excitedly." Doyens Reston and Langston step in, eager to congratulate Fitz and Olivia. The others present quickly follow suit surrounding the couple, offering congratulations and other traditional pleasantries.

Mellie stands in the back of the assembly. She feels anchored in place. The reality of Fitz's rejection is still too fresh. Her chest is tight and her breathing labored. She knows it is irrational for her to have this type of reaction but she cannot help what she is feeling. What is it about Olivia Pope that captivates Fitz? She is beautiful, yes, but am I not comely also? Olivia is intelligent but I too am perceptive. His joy vexes me. I have never seen him so happy. I so yearn for him to just once look at me with contentment. How is it she gives his countenance such serenity and gladness? What about me alienates his affection so?Her mind fills with never to be answered questions. She knows Fitz never lied to her about his feelings toward her, but she never imagined he was ready to speak the vow to anyone so soon.

Hushed whispers begin to replace the congratulatory murmurings. "Did you know they were keeping company?" How long have they had an understanding?" What of Edison?" What of Mellie?"

"Yes, what of me?" Mellie feels as though she is on display. She tries to appear excited for the promised pair but an aloof stance is all she can muster. Looks of pity and questioning whispers filter through the room. Edison and Janine approach Mellie. "Shall we go and speak blessings to Olivia and Fitz?" Edison asks, his tone conveying genuine happiness for the couple. Janine smiles at the visibly shaken Mellie.

"Yes, this is wonderful fortuity for them."

"After you", Edison raises his arm and gestures toward the boisterous crowd surrounding the clearly happily enamored couple.

Edison speaks first because Mellie appears to be at a loss for words. "Olivia, Doyen Grant, joyous and fruitful blessings on you both. May your joining add significance and plenty to your families, our people and the generations to come.

"Thank You Doyen", they reply in unison.

"Your heartfelt felicitation is much appreciated," Olivia says with gratitude for she senses acceptance and closure in Edison's mind.

Before Fitz can append to her comment, Mellie steps forward. Fitz gently takes Olivia's hand.

"Yes, yes, this is a time to celebrate", Mellie blurts out. "Fitz, Olivia, joyous and fruitful blessings to you. I wish you nothing but happiness." Fitz sees the sadness behind Mellie's eyes.

"Thank you Mellie, you honor us with your words."

"Fitz, I cannot deny this foreordination. I do truly wish the best for you and Olivia, Mellie whispers, then retreats into the crowd to allow others to move forward and address the two. Olivia squeezes Fitz's hand. Olivia senses conflicting feelings from Mellie; feelings of loss, confusion, acquiescence, jealousy and reluctant acceptance.

After the Exodus team meeting concludes Fitz and Olivia leave for his parent's home. Upon reaching their destination Olivia suddenly stops in the portico of the Grant ancestral home and turns to Fitz. He can tell she is anxious about meeting his parents.

"Fitz I do not wish to cause any friction between you and your parents. Maybe you should meet with them in private; my presence may only serve as an unnecessary distraction." Fitz cups Olivia's face in his hands and places his brow on hers.

"Olivia you are a distraction but a very necessary distraction. I love you. I will admit my family has aspirations of me making Mellie my mate, but it is not, nor has it ever been my desire."

"Fitz', Olivia pulls away shaking her head, but Fitz grabs her and draws her back.

"No Olivia, listen to me. I said my family has aspirations not me. Look at me my love". He cups her face once again. "From the moment we established an understanding you became my family. No, that's not true. I longed to be your mate the day you joined the Exodus project. I never acted on my desire because at the time I believed you pledged to Edison. Imagine my unspeakable joy in learning you were free and unattached." Olivia smiles and kisses the hand caressing her cheek. "The day of my affliction I made it clear to Mellie and my family that my heart belonged to another. I dared not speak your name at the time because we had never conversed on such matters but I knew you were my destiny. I knew I loved you and no other."

"Fitz", she sighs. He embraces her again and kisses her softly on the lips.

"Olivia we have no time for formality or ritual. I will not lose you or our people. Yes, my family will be shocked by the rapidness of our courtship; it is not the natural order of things, but hear me Olivia Pope their opinion matters not to me. You and I are in this together. Our love and our mission is all that matters." He bends down to kiss her pouting lips. The kiss starts tenderly then escalates quickly into a passionate frenzy of domination seeking tongues. Olivia struggles to withhold projecting her feelings onto Fitz but it is useless, her desire for him is too intense. The force of her emotions hits Fitz's system like of bolt of lightning. His knees buckle under the intensity of the emotional infusion of her love into his body. His body shakes. "Olivia, what manner of love is this that takes physical control of me? My body quivers and aches to be inside of you, to consume you. If I do not join with you soon I feel I will perish from my chained fervor." The evidence of Fitz's wanton desire protrudes from his lower garment.

Olivia feels Fitz's arousal pressing against her stomach. Her hand instinctively slowly descends to massage his firm throbbing organ. Fitz starts tugging at her cloak with one hand and squeezing her supple mounds with the other. Both are in the moment, unaware of their surroundings, completely engrossed in their need for intimate contact. The need to breathe temporarily separates the amorous doublet. Olivia comes to herself and gently pushes Fitz away. His trance-like state remains until she calls his name.

"Fitz we have to stop. We cannot do this here."

"Olivia, what we have done here will be evident once we enter my parents home," as he points to his very hard erect penis. Without even thinking, Olivia instinctively waves her hand over his bulging mass and his male appendage quickly returns to normal.

"Okay, that is definitely one power you can do without", he smirks incredulously. "Why would the benefactors even create such a power, let alone pass it on to you?" Olivia shrugs her shoulders and smiles.

Sabean is on the deck lounging on a chair, quietly listening to the rippling waves softly crashing against the pebbled shore. The sudden appearance of the couple startles her.

"Son, I didn't hear you come in. How do you feel?" She asks as she grabs his hand, her face flush with concern. "Have you experienced any reoccurrence of infirmity symptoms?" She pulls him close in a motherly embrace. Fitz never releasing Olivia's hand, warmly reciprocates the ardent hug from his mother. Sabean smiles at Olivia but wonders who she is and why she is accompanying Fitz. "Fitz, who do we have here?"

"Mother, I am fine. You have no need to worry about my health." He kisses Olivia's hand. Olivia turns her head to smile at Fitz; he brushes her hair back exposing her ear cuff. "Mother I want you to introduce you to Olivia. We've come to tell you …." Sabean gasps softly and holds up her hand causing Fitz to pause. She excuses herself and goes to find Gerry.

Fitz can tell his mother is disappointed. Tradition calls for him to discuss his choice of mate with his parents before speaking the vow.

"Fitz I should not have come. You need to speak to your parents as tradition calls without me being present. I know it is not required but it is tradition and maintaining as much of our traditions as possible is important. I should go and speak to my parents."

"No Olivia. I have made it clear for some time now that my choice of mate is not in keeping with their arranged vision of my life consort. Trust in what I say, our union is of no surprise. They may not have been aware of my choice but they definitely were aware of who was not."

"Fitz my son it is good to see you are in continued good health. AB Pope, how are you? What business have you here this evening?" Gerry asks in a guarded tone.

"Father I am sure mother has already told you why we are both here. As you can see I have spoken the vow Olivia and we have exchanged tokens of commitment."

"Fitz, may I ask when you two declared your understanding?"

"Midday, he responds rather matter-of-factly."

"Midday, as in today?" Gerry questions, his voice slightly elevated.

"Yes, as in today."

"Fitz this is not in keeping with the traditions of our kindred. Olivia have you spoken of your commitment vow with your family? Do you not have an understanding with Doyen Davis?"

"No patriarch I have not discussed my vow with my family and no I never had an understanding with Doyen Davis. The doyen is a good friend of mine and my family and nothing more. Fitz and I have had an unspoken understanding for some time."

"An unspoken understanding; what exactly does that mean? How much time have you two spent together? Fitz were you seeing Olivia at the same time as Mellie?"

"I was not seeing Mellie. Mellie and I had no understanding. I have never been anything other than a friend to Mellie. I never lead her to believe we were anything but friends. Mellie admitted as much not more than two eves ago. Why are you rehashing this? I have made my choice."

"Fitzgerald we are simply trying to understand how you came to this decision and why this is the first time we are meeting Olivia."

"Fitz will meet my family after we leave here. I am almost certain Doyen Davis has already informed my family of what transpired today."

"Are we to understand we are not the first to learn of your vow exchange? Clearly, neither of you felt the need to adhere to convention or honor custom? Gerry's agitation continues to grow.

"AB Pope, forgive us for being curious but we are at loss as to how our son, who was near death last eve, suddenly returns home with his future mate, and no explanation. Is it not the order of things for us to have met you prior to the vow exchange? I assure you, your forebears will also want answers." Sabean comments as she comes along side Gerry and places her hand on his shoulder in an attempt to calm him.

"Fitz you cannot be surprised we are concerned given the unexpectedness of your actions. We never so much as heard you mention Olivia's name until the day of your affliction when you cried out for her." Fitz turns to kiss Olivia's forehead. "Now you stand before us this very eve committed. Son can you step back for a moment and evaluate this situation rationally?"

"Are you implying my choosing Olivia is irrational? Look, I know you both love Mellie. I understand you think Mellie and I should be joined but attend to my words; such a union is never going to happen. I love Olivia and only Olivia. I love her so much the thought of not being with her or in her presence troubles my being."

"Patriarch, Fitz and I have worked closely together for some time. Over the last few cycles it has become clear to us we both desire more than a friendship." Olivia interjects trying to defuse the tension between Fitz and his father.

"Olivia, are you willing to use our viscom to contact your family and invite them over so we can all sit down and discuss this matter?" Sabean asks hopefully.

"What is there to discuss mother? The vow has been spoken and we will go before the magistrate next eve. Neither you, nor Olivia's forebears will dissuade us."

"Fitz why are you in a rush to bond with this woman? Have you …"

"Stop! Father, please do not finish your question. This woman has a name and it is Olivia. She is to be my mate. She is the love of my life and I will not have you disrespect her. We have not broken any convention. We are in love and see no reason to delay our joining. I do not want to be away from her any longer. We have no ulterior motive. We are in love, a deep consuming love that we want to express; plain and simple." Fitz replies angrily.

"Patriarch, it is not our intention to shun tradition; it is just our positions give us a different perspective on the concept of time. The urgency of our actions is born out of our belief every precious moment should be cherished and not wasted."

"Olivia, I understand you two have a unique perspective but if we lose that which makes us Hadarian for the sake of expediency, there is no point to relocating to the new world."

"I agree patriarch."

"I am glad to hear you concur. So will you both adhere to convention from this point?"

"We will for the most part, but understand this, by this time next eve we will be joined!" Fitz declares.

Sabean begins to cry.

The visitor light panel on the wall begins to blink. Sabean leaves to answer the door.

"Father, I will not wait. I want my remaining cycles to be spent with Olivia. The sooner we start our life together the better."

"Olivia I think we need to include your family in this discussion. Please use the viscom to contact your parents."

Olivia contacts her parents and as expected their reaction mirrors the Grants.

Sabean re-enters the room with Mellie at her side.

"Mellie what are you doing here", Fitz questions?

"I came to congratulate your parents of course", Mellie replies with a touch of sarcasm.

AN - Darn that Mellie, first she says she is fine with things then she goes and pulls a stunt like this.

Hey, what about Olivia being able to tame the cobra with the wave of her hand? Fitz is none too pleased about that special power.

Well, next up truths are revealed, a joining occurs and consummation finally happens.
