Chapter 10
A Field of 'Gold'
Law could feel the sweat gather on his forehead as he realized his plan to get to the island, grab the girl and get the hell out of there, was ruined. His eye twitched in frustration as he tried to rethink his plan. 'Why does everything that can go wrong, go wrong when the Staw-hats' are involved.'
"Damn . . ." Law sighed and rubbed at the back of his neck as he looked at each of the separate straw hats he currently had at his disposal.
Robin was the first to speak up. "We could split up. Some of us go look for Swordsman-san, some look in the town for Miss Ghost girl, and some can go back to the submarine and inform the other heart pirates."
Law groaned as he dragged a hand over his face. "We don't have enough people to do that but I think I have a plan. Franky-ya stands out the most, so start heading back to the sub, see if you can find a trail where Zoro-ya could've gone. Robin-ya and Usopp-ya will head into town with me, see if we can spot Perona-ya. We'll follow the old guy and the marine." Pulling out a small transmitting snail, Law pointed to Franky. "Call if ya see Zoro-ya on the way and keep him with ya."
Franky nodded in understanding and moved to head back all the while trying to keep his laughing to a minimum. Law turned to the others. "Let's go."
-Heart Pirates-
Bepo was so bored, laying on the deck, waiting for his captain as Penguin and Shachi played cards next to him. The rest of the crew stood ready to set sail if things went south.
He was getting ready to take a nap when his ears twitched, deep breathing could be heard and it wasn't his own. No one else could breathe like this and yet it was quite a bit away from their ship. Opening an eye, he turned his head slowly, focusing on the sound. Whatever it was coming from, it was deeper in the cave.
Opening his eyes fully, he lifted himself up into a sitting position, completely focused on the breathing and not on the two who were arguing next to him.
"You have a 5, I know you do!" Shachi yelled at Penguin pointing his cards at the beanie wearing pirate.
"No, I don't! . . . How would you even know that?!" Penguin yelled at his friend, looking to his cards and then back to Shachi in suspicion.
There was a pause as Shachi did his best to come up with a better reason other than him looking at his cards while Penguin was using the bathroom, luckily Bepo had chosen that moment to interrupt.
"Someone's in this cave." Bepo was completely focused on staring into the cave that he'd forgotten to apologize for interrupting their argument.
"Eh? Really? I don't hear anything." Shachi shrugged and Penguin nodding his head agreeing with his friend, already forgetting about the cards strewn over the deck.
Bepo could feel in his gut that nothing was going to go to plan.
-Zoro-
The cawing of birds as they flew overhead and the sound of the waves hitting the cliff was heard as Zoro stood at the edge, looking frustrated and about ready to jump.
"The hell! How'd I get here?" Whipping around Zoro stomped his way back into the forest while growling. "Damnit Perona!"
-Perona-
"The hell is this?" Perona's voice cracked as she stood in front of the so called 'Golden Field' with her arms waving towards something she didn't expect. When she heard 'Golden Field' she thought maybe there was an area covered in gold/valuables or at least some cute yellow flowers, but that was not what was sitting in front of her.
"It's junk." Perona said to herself in disbelief. "It's all junk!"
Cheap knickknacks, bonze personals, some shiny objects and even a few small boats were piled high, high enough she wondered why she hadn't seen it before.
Perona sighed as she figured out which way was east and started towards her destination. Almost tripping over a 3rd place trophy while cursing out of frustration, it just didn't feel right floating around without her super cute umbrella.
-Law, Usopp and Robin-
Law, Usopp and Robin hid behind a building with hats pulled down low and sunglasses on each one of their heads. Robin was currently using her devil fruit to search some of the buildings, while Law kept an eye on the old man and the Vice Admiral, who were getting closer to his house, going by what the old man said.
"Any sign of her?" Law asked Robin as he looked to the woman on his right, but she shook her head, brows pinched in concern as she continued to look with no luck of finding her until her eyes shot open!
"There's a young lady running towards the old man, she looks quite distressed. Let me see if I can hear them."
Robin duplicated herself to the building near the two men they were following, putting her extra arm near her extra ear, trying to focus of the two who were soon to be joined by the hysterical girl.
The three pirates watched as the crying girl made contact with the men. "It sounds like she's the old man's daughter." They listened to Robin describe the situation as they watched the girl hug her father, tears and snot running down her face. "She's apologizing quite a lot." They watched as the father grabbed onto the girls shoulders pulling her from him gently. "He's telling her to slow down."
The Vice admiral looked almost panicked, not sure what to do with crying kids, much less young women.
The girl looked to be taking deep breaths, steadying herself before speaking again, quietly explaining the situation, only to be answered with two yells that even Law and Usopp, from their distance, could here. "WHAT?!"
"What did she just tell them?" Law asked, needing to know what had happened.
Robin looked shocked as she relayed the message. "She just told them that Miss Ghost girl escaped."
Law sighed for the hundredth time since they'd started this little rescue mission. "This is just getting more and more complicated the longer we're here."
-Perona-
She had just gotten past the forest and was met with a sloped cliff side when she spotted the path, but not only that, she was also met with a familiar face.
"This is quite the mess you're in." Dracule Mihawk stood in front of Perona with his sword, Yoru, on his back and his feathered hat on top of his head. In his hand was a bag with clothes and her umbrella sticking out of it.
Perona stomped her foot and crossed one of her arms across her body, pouting as she used her other hand to flip her untamed pink hair. "It's about time yo-"
She was stopped short, shrieking as her hand got caught in her knotted hair. Mihawk smirked and raised an eyebrow at the poor woman with her hand stuck in her hair.
"Would you like some help?" Mihawk asked but it sounded more like he was mocking her. She glared at him while lifting her free arm, palm open she gestured to her stuff he was carrying.
"I don't need your help." She was now pouting like a child. "But, if you want to help I'm not going to stop you."
Mihawk chuckled as he moved closer to detangle her hair, he gave her her things, gripped her wrist and tried to dislodge her hand, but every time he pulled, she would whine.
"Owe! That hurts!"
The more she complained the more irritated he became, but then he unexpectedly made a mistake. "Shit."
"What?!" Perona became worried as Mihawk had stopped moving. It seemed that he had gotten the cuff of his dress shirt caught up in the mess of her hair.
". . . Nothing."
Thinking it was best that she didn't know, he discretely pulled the small knife out from around his neck and placed it near the knot so he could cut and remove single hairs to free both him and her. Perona realized he'd been a little to quite so she had looked towards him and from the corner of her eye she could see the gleam of his small cross knife.
"Are you cutting my hair?!" She shrieked and just as he was about to explain that if he did it this way, the cut strands wouldn't be noticeable, the ground started to quake and a dull flapping sound was heard. Oh, and the sound of cutting hair was the only thing Perona focused on.
-Franky-
Franky had just arrived at the sub when Bepo had been jumping off, landing on the deck with Penguin and Shachi following close behind.
The Straw-hat Pirate looked to the large polar bear mink in confusion. "Where're ya off to?"
"Bepo heard something strange deeper in the cave, so we're gonna go check it out." Shachi answered Franky, looking ready for something exciting to happen, was suddenly curious.
Bepo stood in front of Franky and explained how he'd been hearing heavy breathing and wanted to investigate the noise and Franky was all for an adventure!
"SUPER! Let's go!" Franky posed as the Heart pirates followed suit, posing as he did.
Bepo lead the group, who were following close behind, deeper into the cave. The cave was quite large in size and was humid as well. As they went deeper and deeper into the cave, they hadn't realized that the path was twisting, not until they came to a 'fork in the road,' two different paths that looked almost identical and had Franky scratching his sideburns in wonder.
"Hmmmm . . . Should we split up?" He asked looking to the others.
Bepo tilted his head towards the right for a few seconds, then the left before he spoke. "The breathing's coming from the left but I can hear a faint 'clanking' sound on the right."
"Hmmmm . . . Then I'll head right, and you go left." Franky gave the three Heart Pirates a thumbs up as he started to make his way towards the right entrance but was stopped by Shachi.
"Hey, I'll come with ya!" Shachi followed Franky while saying 'See you later' with comical tears running down his and Penguins faces.
"SUPERRRR!"
Franky and Shachi continued to trek down the path when they started to hear the faint clanking sound in the distance, the sound Bepo had described. As they got closer the sound got louder, they could see a light, maybe an exit or a lighted room, either way both Franky and Shachi got ready for a fight.
Getting a closer look, they realized that it was an exit that lead into a pit, full of junk, it almost looked like a junk yard, without any food related things. Most of the objects were quite shiny and all different sizes but most of it was quite large. What made the two smile, was that they could see a familiar figure. . . the moss haired swordsman.
"Oh! Zoro! How did you get here?" Shachi asked, completely shocked to see him, but Franky didn't seem all to shocked, he seemed to be trying to keep from laughing out loud instead.
Zoro seemed uninterested as he simply shrugged, looked around the pit as he kicked an old trophy. Seeing another entrance to another tunnel, Zoro was about to head that way until Franky interrupted him.
"Haahahaha! You got lost!" Franky couldn't hold it in anymore, how could he, when Zoro had looked like a 4-year-old trying to come up with an excuse for taking cookies he wasn't allowed to eat. The cyborg held his stomach as he laughed harder when Zoro snapped at him.
"Shut up, Franky!" Zoro's pride always seemed to be brought down by his sense of direction. Deciding to ignore the cyborg, Zoro entered the other tunnel, the two that had found him followed close behind the swordsman.
The farther down the tunnel they went the darker it got, luckily Frank had his nipple lights! Shachi couldn't help be in awe but also super excited, he had never seen nipple lights so give him a break. Zoro walked in front of Franky, so the cyborg could keep an eye on the swordsman, as Shachi brought up the rear.
"What did you all see while you were lost?" Franky asked as he smirked.
Zoro felt his eye twitch as he answered. "Shut up . . . Mostly trees and then that junk pile."
Franky started to laugh again, Shachi chuckling behind them, but all the fun stopped when the ground started to tremble, a sound of something shaking echoing around them. Zoro placed his hand on one of his sword's hilt, ready to cut down his enemy, Franky stood tall, looking intimidating and Shachi clenched his fists, trying to seem on par with the two other strong pirates. They all stood as steady as they could when a sudden shrill scream filled the air.
Although they tried, no one could be prepared for Bepo and Penguin running towards them, screaming with tears in their eyes and waving like madmen, not being able to express their horror in words. Zoro, Franky and Shachi all wondered what the hell they were yelling about until they could feel a slight tremble in the earth. Squinting their eyes, they tried to see what was behind the running pirates, but all their eyes widened as they saw what was barreling towards them. A 20-meter-long, red otter!
