Crashing into her bed provided Aqua with great solace. The day had gone from bizarre to a nightmare anyone would have felt exhausted. The new student had saved them yet Aqua couldn't shake the feeling of paranoia. It felt like the ordeal was still occurring.
Damn numbers she thought to herself.
The numbers were members of the 13 families that ran the Destiny Islands. Each had a mark to distinguish them from the rest of the population. From the police to local chefs, from politicians to musicians the numbers had influence in every stretch of life. They were normally fair and most behaved distinguished as one would expect of those in roles of power. Yet they have been known for the occasional debauchery that all were required to look the other way from. If there was a scandal and numbers were involved the news didn't report it and the only way you'd find out about it was by word of mouth.
Kairi, Ven, and Namine probably weren't fairing much better but what could she do? If it wasn't for the silver haired boy she'd probably be naked and bleeding in that godforsaken alley. She had told them all to go home and to not mention the incident. Last thing we need is to worry the others.
Aqua then closed her eyes, and not long after her heavy mind fell deep into the welcoming abyss of sleep.
Day 2 6:30 a.m.
Somehow, she slept through the night and yet she found herself needing to get up and get moving. Walking down the empty halls felt so lonely. The halls were meant to be filled with noise and clutter; students complaining about class, making plans for the evening or even just praising some show they found on Netflix. As she rounded the corner she caught the familiar dark hood that seemed to have ingrained itself into her life. In front of him was the new music assistant.
"It's been dealt with but stay out of trouble." The tall blonde man stated, "but I won't be able to help you again."
"I told you, your intervention wasn't necessary" ? responded disdain tainting his voice.
"You know that you need to stay away from them, if they bug you again, do nothing other than report to me," The blonde man continued, unfazed by the youth's attitude, "You're not a number, so any affairs involving numbers need be handled by other numbers."
"I-" ? mark attempted to defend himself but was cut off by a hand that had been placed mere inches from his face
"Enough Kaleb" the blonde man growled "and take off that damn hood" with a swift motion the boys hood was pulled off his head revealing the stark silver hair that it concealed.
"Luxord, you-"Kaleb began to say but found another hand in his face.
"First of all at school address me formally, and secondly enough. You may not have asked for my help but you got it so take it. Consider yourself lucky that Seifer and Larxene aren't exactly in the good graces of the numbers, and this stunt they pulled gave them an excuse to really punish them."
"Yes, cause there's justice in attempted rapists not going to jail." The sour youth spat out, this time ignoring the hand in his face "You numbers seem to forget you are people too and what it means to be punished for breaking the law."
"We have our own way of handling things" Luxord sighed
"Oh as long as you handle it then" Kaleb said mocking tone prevalent
"Look you don't have to like it but just stay out of trouble I-" Luxord finally noticed the blue haired young lady standing at the end of the hall.
Shit. Aqua thought bashing herself for standing there in awe rather than hiding around the corner.
Kaleb turned with his emerald eyes meeting her sapphire eyes. For a moment he just stared at her, then proceed to turn back to Luxord. "I'm guessing you'll want to talk more later." And with that Kaleb walked away not taking a second look back at Luxord or Aqua.
Luxord then approached Aqua moving his hand up towards his face revealing the X tattoo the signified his status as a number. "Eavesdropping is rather rude miss?"
"Aqua"
"Ah, so you're not unjustified considering our conversation involved you." Luxord said a wry smile crept across his face. "Well I must say you certainly got lucky last night"
"Lucky how?" Aqua asked, irate that being attacked like that could even fall into the realm of luck.
"Had things escalated you nor your friends would be coming to school today." Luxord said his smile vanishing as quickly as it appeared. "But you know that don't you?"
Of course, I do
"Well no matter what's done is done but listen," Luxord then whipped a card out from his sleeve like some cheap magician. "On behalf of the numbers we offer you this free of charge"
Aqua took the card and read the black text centered within the gold border: Wise, Trauma specialist. Beneath the name was a phone number and address. " A Therapist?"
"Aye, he's the best on this Island and he's yours to use at your leisure." Luxord said " As an apology for the behavior of our younger members"
"Thank you" Aqua said mustering up as much sincerity as she could.
Luxord then bowed and walked away seemingly satisfied with her response.
