Megumi was in and out of the room trying to heal Kenshin like she promised. The poison seemed to be going away and that brought happiness to the Blue Rose or Kaoru as she came to know her. For a moment the woman thought that maybe with these people she could be happy.

Even though she knew how foolish that thought was. Nothing good ever stayed long. It always was taken from her be it her family, love, or body. Nothing belonged to her anymore. The truth of that cut deeper than any blade ever could.

On the fourth day of treating Kenshin Megumi walked outside to think and get some air. Hearing the call of a bird she turned and saw something that turned her blood cold.

"No"

Inside

Yahiko had enough of the two women fight. They had not said a word to one another and now it was making everyone on edge. If they came to blows then everyone would be okay. But no they would argue, glare, and just act like two kids.

He was the youngest of the group and it got to the point where it was annoying him. Finally he grabbed Sano and Aoshi to let them in on the plan. Yahiko was ready to get the two friends back together.

Plan in action

Walking to the training ground Aoshi went to pick up Misao. With her height and weight it was like caring a child. Since her fall out with Kaoru her rations dropped dangerously low. This reason above all pushed him forward to regain her friendship with Kaoru.

Sano walked into the room where Kaoru held up with her lover. He was still not completely happy about it but what could he do. Having Megumi behind him gave the excuse he needs to get the girl out of the room. Saying he needed to speak to her about their next move.

Soon Kaoru was behind taking short steps barley moving from the room that held Kenshin. When the fighter couldn't take it anymore he picked up his friend and ran to the meeting room. Before she could say anything the rooster threw her in the room and locked the door.

Turning the two women saw one another and started banging on the door hoping they would them out. Swearing and threats seemed to fall on deaf ears until they heard the conversation outside the door.

"You realize that was only easy because they haven't been eating correctly."

"I'll take that advantage. Missy hits hard."

"The mighty Sanousuke Sagara is afraid of a girl."

"Talk all the shit you want. I didn't see you too eager to get her."

"Misao would have had your head. It would take someone with great stealth to capture her."

"Or she's so worn out even Yahiko could take her."

"Was that supposed to be an insult?"

"Seeing as you had to first tire her out before you got her to come here. Yes."

"This isn't the hen house. Making a lot of noise is only going to get you put on the dinner table."

"I'll peck your eyes out snow man."

The two where nose to nose when they heard a loud banging, "If you two don't let us out I promise my cooking will be the last of your worries."

"No way Missy when you two make up then well will get you out."

"Yeah ugly you two are going to have to kiss and make up. Which is why you two are stuck in that room no one wants to see two hags make up."

"Now hold on kid a little girl on girl isn't too bad" Yahiko looked at him like he'd grown a third head. Kaoru was more like a sister to him no way did he want to see her kiss another girl. That was just nasty.

That comment however should have stayed in the roosters head. Aoshi was furious even if he wouldn't mind seeing the two girl make out that didn't mean he would allow Sano to see it. Frist and foremost he was a man.

Sano could feel Aoshi chi turn fighter and he'd been itching to knock someone out. After picking up the kids his fighting days were none existent. So this to him felt way overdue.

While the men folk were off preparing to battle. The two friends stared at one another.

"Let's get this over with I want to get back to Kenshin"

"Even after he killed your mother you still love him."

"We have all killed. When he did it he didn't know she was my mother. I can't go around holy than thou when I have killed mothers, fathers and so on."

"I guess you are looking for me to say sorry."

"No because you meant what you said."

"Then let's just agree to disagree. I can't stand not being your friend over some guy no matter the reason."

"Ok but if you try to kill him I will do everything in my power to stop you. Please don't make me kill you."

"As if you could"

Though her words struck something deep inside her the fact still remain that she was a woman in love. They both were so Misao could understand why Kaoru said what she said. Now that she thought about it she would have acted worse had Kaoru tried to kill her love.

Getting up she cross the closed the space between them and hugged her. Kenshin meant the world to Kaoru so she would do all she could to help him. Nothing was worth losing family not even past events.

No sooner than the moment they hugged did the doors open.

Kenshin

Megumi finally figured that the Battousai wasn't asleep but paralyzed. When she figured that out she was able to combine an antidote that would give him the use of this body.

Giving him the antidote Megumi went to retrieve his food. He was awake when she walked inside. Finally seeing the woman who'd given him concoction after concoction he had a few ideas of how to pay her back.

The first few times he understood but after a while he saw she was giving him the stuff just because she was mad that he had yet to wake up. He may have not been in the mood to kill but terrify was another deal.

That is until he saw her and realized whose woman she was.

"Battousai we must speak before the others come."

"If it's to pleasure me before your rooster comes back I will have to decline. Kaoru is a very jealous woman and I can't say I won't take pleasure in seeing her kill you."

"I may have been Enishi's whore but it was not my choice. I love Sano and have chosen to help him and his sister."

"He is too friendly to truly see her as his sister."

"He would not betray me."

"Would you betray him even if it meant your life?"

"I know I will die be it by their hands or your wife's"

With speed she never knew before Kenshin grabbed the woman by the neck. His golden eyes blazing making him look like a demon.

"She was never my wife you of all people knew that. If you mention her again I will kill you. Now what did you want to say."

"Do you love that woman enough to die for her?"

Tomeo

"Brother you received word from your whore residing with our prey."

"Yes dear sister but I had to make a choice quickly." He bowed down and kissed her hand.

"What do you mean?" Her voice betrayed her feeling of uncertainty.

"I hate to deny you anything but you can't have them both." His eyes shined with the truth of his word.

Anger pulsed through her at the meaning, "Enishi I have always loved my husband. You of all people should know that."

"One love must die. The choice is up to you. That was what your brother sent to me. It was either the Battousai's love or yours. The manslayer can kill us all. While that girl can only kill a handful of our men. Besides I knew you chose the girl because your love blinds you."

Reaching her brother she allowed her hand to fly. Slapping his face with a force she used only on enemies. He stood shocked not understanding what he'd done wrong. His sister harbored feeling for the Battousai he only did what he thought was right.

He looked away no longer feeling like her brother. "I am sorry Tomeo. It seems I have over stepped."

"No, Enishi please forgive me. You were right in taking care of him." With the very hand that harmed she softly creased his cheek. Capturing her hand in his he leaned into her touch. She'd forgiven him that was all that mattered.

Down the hall

Megumi watched the man slayer watch her. He should be feeling the effects of the drug now. The fox woman only hoped her love could forgive her for what she had done. Doing this would save his life and she would do anything to save him.

Kenshin's body began to feel fragile once again his body useless to him. As he lay there he slowly felt his heart slow down until its beat was no longer heard.
