Everyone gaped hearing Naru's sudden proposal.
"Wha -"
"WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU BABBLING ABOUT STUPID!" Ayako exclaimed, cutting off Mai, smacking Naru's head with her purse. "Marriage is not something you can talk about while having tea!" The miko was puffing her chest, while Bou-san trying to stop her for being violent.
"Mai will have a higher chance in adopting Amy from marrying me." Naru explained, rubbing at the back of his head. "We will only be married in papers but our lifestyle will be the same."
Ayako huffed, crossing her arms, knowing that Naru was right.
"Mai-san, it was a good proposal." John agreed, nodding his head. "Have you found anything regarding the couple who tried to adopt Amy-chan?" He asked Naru.
"Yes." Lin automatically handed him his report. He handed it to John for him to read. "It seems that the couple is known in adopting female kids two years old to six, they are training those kids to become a couteasan."
"A WHAT?!" Mai exclaimed.
"They are quite wealthy and they lived in a high-end subdivision, no wonder why the court approved of them." Madoka explained.
John sighed before handing back the files to Naru. They were startled when they heard Amy's crying voice, Mai hurriedly went to the second floor, without noticing that Naru followed her.
"Mama! Don't leave me! Don't leave me! I don't want to go with them!" Mai gasped when she saw several toys were elevated on the air, Naru was not surprise.
"Make her calm down." Naru whispered to her ears, and it sent goosebumps on her neck. Mai brought the kid in her arms, rubbing her back, calming her down.
"I'm here, I'm here. I won't leave you."
Amy hiccupped few times before her breathing returned to normal, and the elevated toys fall down. Mai wiped her tears and snots before placing her back to the bed, and noticed that dhe was clutching on her.
Mai brushed Amy's bangs, she felt the bed dipped beside her, and Naru leaned his head on her shoulder.
"Naru."
"Hm?"
"I'll marry you."
He snaked his hand to her abdomen, hugging her. "I'll treasure the two of you, Mai."
Naru was driving Mai to Tokyo District Court to file an adoption for Amy, he stopped when the light turned red, the sunlight hit the gold band on his left finger. It's been two months since they got married. Gene made a fuss on why no one informed them after returning from his honeymoon, Naru explained it to him again and again that they needed to rushed it for Amy's sake. Naru made it sure to that there will be a proper church wedding.
Naru knew that the court will surely conduct a strict CI, and since Gene already settled down, Naru decided to leave his apartment and bought a house in the same neighbourhood as his brother.
It has a lawn where Amy can freely play, and it has an exclusive Kindergarten and Primary School.
But the house will only for a show, since Mai refused to live with him.
He looked at the passenger seat when Mai heaved a sigh.
"Naru I'm scared, what if they will reject it again?"
"Impossible." Naru scoffed. "No one dared to reject me." Mai raised an eyebrow at him. "Except you, of course." He immediately followed up.
Mai softly chuckled. She tucked her hair behind her ears, and her engagement and wedding rings glint.
Naru took her hand and kissed her palmed. "I love you."
She blushed deep red at the sudden words of love. "I-I-I love you too." She mumbled.
Mai was nervous when she was the same staff who accepted her application before. The staff was batting her eyelashes at Naru. Mai ignored the blatant flirting that the staff showed to her... err... husband.
She greeted politely before handing her legal papers.
"Taniyama –"
"She's a Davis now, miss." Naru interrupted. "She's married."
The woman on her twenties raised an eyebrow in doubt. "And to whom, may I ask sir?"
Naru smirked showing his wedding band. "To me."
The staff's smile fell and entertained Mai's application professionally.
Mai slept in Naru's house for two weeks now, she's using the guest room by the way, the court called her, informing her that they sent people who will conduct a CI on her house, but the court didn't tell specific day or time, so Mai was staying until the CI is finished.
One Saturday morning, both Naru and Mai were in the living room doing their own things, the former was reading potential cases, while the latter was grading her students papers, when doorbell rang, the two stiffened.
Naru stood up and decided to open the gate. There's only one person who will do a CI, he showed his ID to Naru before entering the house.
Mai prepared a cup of tea for their guest, and sat beside Naru.
"So let's start with... how long have you known each other?"
"Quite long enough to know that she's the one for me." Naru answered smoothly, Mai wanted to cover her face in embarrassment.
"I noticed that you don't have maids, who threw the garbage?"
"Me." Both of them answered. The staff raised his eyebrow.
"I mean, we alternate the chore." Mai explained quickly.
He nodded, writing their answers. "Who slept at the right side of the bed?"
"It's Naru."
"Mai."
The two looked at each other. Mentally groaning.
"We really don't mind about our sleeping pattern, and my wife is not sensitive about it." Naru shrugged.
The questioning lasted for several minutes, the staff was asking them more personal questions.
"Alright, for the last question, lights on, lights off?"
Mai immediately blushed understanding what the question is about. "Off, of course!" She exclaimed.
"On." Naru answered proudly.
The staff didn't comment any further, and bowed, thanking the couple before leaving. After Naru came back from seeing the staff off, Mai slumped on the couch.
"We are doomed!" Mai groaned in frustration. "I can't believe he asked those questions! It's was so embarrassing!"
"Mai."
"Hm?"
Naru smirked. "In the future, don't turn off the lights, I'm afraid of the dark."
Mai blushed, grabbing a pillow and threw it on his smug face.
