"Leia, remove this mask."
Now, settling the small pod down in a safe alley, away from the imperial military, Leia was brought back to Corusant, where she focused on where half of her masked and armored father lay, barely pulsing with life.
"Father. You'll die, it's the only thing keeping you alive."
The mask seemed to obey Vader's orders, and it was lifted from him to reveal a pale old man with brown eyes that deeply humanized the long feared shadow.
"There's nothing to stop that now. You must know-" the short sentence cut of by coughing was re established with more will then before but with a softer voice than the one she'd grown accustomed to, "you must know there is no future for me beyond the forces and history of the empire. The future of the galaxy will soon be at will of the rebel alliance and I an undoubtedly sworn enemy of it. This is the only way."
Leia tried to hang onto his words just as she spoke hers, "I can speak on your behalf, propose a deal in the trail, with your knowledge of imperial military sites surely-"
Leia was in mid air when she realized she and Vader were being pulled into a spacecraft. Upon being settled into the imperial space craft, Leia ignited her saber in full defense only to have her eyes meet a familiar scoundrel. She extinguished the saber and hugged Han before looking past him at the control pad and ordering Tahn to get them off Corusant and quickly finding her way to kneeling back next to her her severely injured father.
A couple hours later, after the shock of having a Sith Lord on ship, Han still sat beside Leia trying to comprehend how she could have been so swayed by Vader that she was so decided as she was on helping him.
"Master Tahn, what are our options?"
"Leia, Vader is right, there are too many stakes in for him, nothing he knows would be valuable enough for the rebellion that they'd let him live freely, or live for that fact. It's politics, and if you get involved, you'd be throwing away your whole career."
"Im saving my father, and not as to leave him to rot in a cell, or worse. There's-" Leia's eyes brilliantly lit up. "He's been in a mask for years, his true identity has never been revealed to anyone. Anakin Skywalker was proclaimed dead— but by the empire, we could say it was in effort to extinguish all hope of the republic returning. With a different face mask and armor, we could effortlessly reintegrate him into the alliance."
"Princess, I think the bringing attention to him is one thing we'd probably want to avoid, reintroducing him as a long time missing war hero would bring a lot more attention than if we were just to integrate him as a virtual no one we'd found along the way."
Tahn intervened, "As much as introducing him as a long lost war hero doesn't sound like the best idea, it's the safest bet. The alliance will for sure run blood tests on him, identifying him as Skywalker."
Tahn could sense the tension between Han and Leia and stood up suddenly, "I'll leave you two to discuss the next stop while I run tests on Vader. He's certainly due for a near stop soon."
Before Han could speak Leia began, "I know this seems incredibly hard to understand Han, but it's simple. I've finally come to accept that he's my father. You—"
"No Leia. I understand that, and I trust you. But I don't trust him, and i just think you should remember why. This isn't about me or you, it's about him. He was past accepting Luke was his son before..."
Han sighed, unwilling to finish his sentence, "you get what I'm going on about."
Leia nodded, "Apart from accepting and understanding the role, he's playing and stepping into it. He wanted me to leave him there, it means something that he's willing to die for me and a cause i believe in. His current state was for my sake, and the rebellions'. I know this really has to do with everyone, their well-being and his self control, but I did that to him. I know so much of what he's done, and nothing justifies it, but if he can redeem a small part of Anakin Skywalker, the good parts because both Vader and Anakin are one being, Luke was right, and he didn't die for some fragment of his imagination, but for this. I can't let Anakin and Luke truly die and be forgotten."
"You can't risk everyone's life for his or for the memory of just two people."
"I know, Ill make sure there's some sort of exterior control for his armor to keep his actions in check."
Han smirked and placed a kiss on Leia's head, "you could of just said I was right, Princess but fine, Mustafar it is then."
"Actually, I set the course for a medically highly advanced planet, Kamino. It was heavily hidden from the republic and even now to the empire. We should be arriving soon."
Before long they reached the rainy planet, with a tranquil object like building floating above the sea. Cloaked, Leia and Han walked into the entrance and were greeted by a tall, long necked alien.
"It's been a long time since we've had a Jedi visit."
Leia and Han were alarmingly looking at the alien before it responded soothingly, "I am Lama Su, perhaps we can be assistance to the Jedi again, however I must warn you that any project should be done with as much discretion as possible, the emperor should not know of our plans."
Leia stepped forward, handing the alien a data pad, "That will not be an issue. The emperor is dead. We come for medical aid on a severely injured soldier. Here are his status reports."
The alien dismissed the data pad, "that is not necessary. We will do a full body scan. Bring him in."
Leia shook her head, " I need you to review the report, if you can't help us, we'd be putting his life in danger for nothing."
The alien was now walking in direction of the entrance, "I assure you if we can't help the soldier, no other planet in the galaxy can, and you'd have be wasting your time from the moment you thought you could save him."
Leia watched as a small robot scanned her father over the healing pad he laid on.
"That is Lord Vader is it not?"
Leia focused her sight on the long necked alien now.
"These same reports were sent by the emperor 25 years ago with a warning that if Vader were in search of medical attention to regenerate his full health, and we were to help, the emperor would destroy our planet and enslave us. Lord Vader, however never reached out, I suppose he couldn't find our location."
Leia stared back into the glass, "this planet has been deleted from every record except that of the emperors. It's location and history, heavily guarded. Who else knows of Vader condition?"
The alien too, looked through the glass thoughtfully, "with much certainty, no one. As I said, if we can help, we are the only ones, even the emperor knew this. Fearing the fact so much, he confided in telling me this old knights true name and declared our instalations obsolete and deleted all record of our location."
Leia tensed but before she could reply the reports were read out load.
After listening intently the alien reviewed the procedures that Vader would go through, "some of the severe burns can be treated to regenerate the skin on his body and face to reduce the daily pain he may currently have suffered until now. The internal prospects are much more grim, with his auditory and visual systems all but nearly destroyed we could recreate a droids perception installing various chips into his brain"
Leia spoke, "we don't need him to have the ability to see and hear miles away, his battle days are over. We need him to have a near and far sight ability of a normal, average being that will not irritate him with system malfunctions and overrides."
"Understood. His digestive system can be fully recovered, being replaced with a artificial one that allows him to eat a wide variety of meals that he has not eaten for years, this is also a reason we recommend a couple weeks to recover. Finally, in reference to the limbs he's lost years ago, we can replace them with realistic prosthetics. The device you suggest we install can be placed within the hearing and visual aids. He will require no mask or armor except if he pleases o the prosthetics. His procedures will conclude in 2 weeks and the recovery will take 3 weeks. Until then you can visit him here."
Leia nodded understandably almost turning away and then suddenly remembered, "I want his vocal cords remastered as much as possible without any similiarity to the old robots'. All esthetic procedures are welcomed if they will better his appearance to that of the old knight Skywalker."
