Chapter 15

Sakura groaned, picking up a paper she read over it off what was probably the twentieth time in this hour. Sakura head was pounding and her back was hurting from being hunched over her desk for so long. She laid the paper in her hand back down and scanned her desk. Majority of the papers on her desk were on the Patient X files, the cause of her headache and strife, that tsudae had yet to take from her. Nothing made sense but she knew that if she kept at it she could probably figure it out. .

"This isn't happening this can't be happening," Sakura said getting up from her desk she started pacing back and forth.

" Sasuke is patient X" she thought biting her thumb as she paced back and forth in her small office, " Even though I have yet to prove it. I just know that he is. That sort of eye discoloration has never been seen before. No way he couldn't be patient X."

She had thought she had outran her past but fate must have had a different plan in mind. Sakura's feelings were all over the place today but the main emotion that won out was anger and the target at the anger was a one and only Sasuke Daisuke. Sakura felt conflicted on one hand this was the chance she had been waiting for. Patient X was in the hospital and she knew his identity but on the other hand Lady Tsunade had forbade her from doing anymore research of this case. Not to mention spending one on one time with the man who broke her heart didn't seem like a smart idea. suddenly Saura stop what she was doing and grabbed a file.

"Why does his file say his last name is Uchiha there has to be a mistake."Sakura was so wrapped up in her own thoughts that she almost didn't notice her name over the intercom.

"Paging Dr. Haruno you have a call on line 3, paging Dr. Haruno you have a call on line 3"

Quickly she pick up her office phone and press the button label 3, "Dr. Haruno speaking."

" Sakura" she immediately recognize her sensei's voice, "why the hell are you in the hospital on your day off?"

"I got a call from Menma saying that they needed help so I came in," she said giving a nervous laugh.

"Dammit and here I told them to call in everyone but you" Sakura heard Tsunade grumble, "well as much as I apprentice you're stopping to help Sakura but it time for you to leave."

"But, but my lady I figure since I'm here" Sakura said stuttering she was so close she couldn't stop now, "wouldn't it be more simpler to just continue working and take my day off at a later date."

Sakura heard Lady Tsunade deeply exhale, " Sakura leave the hospital before I call security."

"My lady," Sakura shouted.

" Sakura I gave you this day off cause I knew it would be the last one you would have in a long time." Tsunade snapped, "What with the fundraiser you're planning as well as your normal doctor work I need you to do. This day off break would give you the rest that you'll need for these upcoming weeks. I appreciate you coming in on your day off but please enjoy the rest of the day relaxing someplace that isn't a hospital. For my sake and yours."

Sakura felt her heart clench as she heard the love and worry in the only mother figure Sakura has ever known. She took a deep breath before crashing onto her seat. Her muscles felt tight and her stomach ached from the lack of food.

"Yeah you're right Lady Tsunade" Sakura said, "I'll clock out for the rest of the day."

"Thank you Sakura that means a lot to me." Sakura could hear Tsunade release a breathe Sakura didn't know she was holding

They continued to talk for a bit longer before they finally hung up. Sakura leaned against her seat as she thought, 'what am I even going to do today.'

Suddenly her phone rang and Sakura was surprised when she saw who was on the phone.

"Hey Ino," she said.

" Sakura hey are you busy today," she heard Ino said in a cheery voice.

Sakura wanted so badly to tell Ino that she was and go back to her research. But she remember the conversation she just had with Lady Tsunade, Sakura sighed in defeat " No I'm free, did you have something planned."

"Actually Sai is looking after our son so I wanted to go to this coffee shop/bakery with you. So we can catch up and talk like we used to." Ino asked

"That sounds fun sure I'll meet you at there what time is good for you," Sakura said.

"Um how about in 30 minutes does that work for you," Ino ask.

Sakura looked down at what she was wearing, " um Can we make it an hour I'm not looking the best."

She could hear Ino chuckle on the phone, "sure Sakura I'll see you in an hour."

"Thanks I'll see you there," when Sakura hung up she got up from her desk. Taking one final look at the file she sorta them away in her desk. Leaving her office she made her way toward the exit for the first time she relax.

When Sakura got finally got home she immediately jumped into the shower. Sighing as the steaming hot water washed over her tight muscles. She let the warm water wash away the stress of her day but not all of it. Cause there was one raven haired ball of stress that isn't going away. Seeing him, hearing his voice it had opened a box of emotion that she had thought was sealed away. She hated the fact that her heart ached to see him again, that was the older weaker Sakura that she didn't want to think about. Getting out the shower she dried off and looked in the mirror.

"That not you anymore, you are Sakura Haruno. You are one of the best medic in your hospital and the proud pupil of Lady Tsunade," she said that over and over until she better.

Taking a deep breathe she exited her bathroom and went through her closet. Shuffling through clothes she couldn't decide what to wear. To say that Sakura was nervous meeting up with Ino was an understatement. Most of her closet wear filled with scrubs and comfortable clothing to the the house.

"God why don't I have any clothes," she thought.

"It's because you're a hermit the only clothes you have are scrubs and business clothing," her inner chime in.

Settling on a cute but simple white dress that Shizune had gotten her for her birthday. She felt that it was okay for the occasion, next she reached for the top of her closet for a pair of brown sandals she own. Placing the outfit on her bed she sat in front of a mirror and started doing her hair.

"Why am I so nervous about meeting Ino," she thought.

"Baka you know why, that night when our heart broke twice, remember," her inner said. Sighing Sakura stared into the mirror recalling that night.

FLASH BACK

Sakura sat at the windowsill in the same dark classroom that the boy who shattered her heart once sat. She kept relighting the lighter Sasuke gave her before leaving her. She knew she had to leave but not yet, she was waiting on someone to get here. Sakura was ready to start over but she had to tell her best friend before she left. While she waited she ponder where she would go, what she would do? She didn't have a lot only about 200$ that she's been saving up.

" Sakura," Ino's voice pulled her out of her thoughts.

" Ino I'm in here," she called out.

"What the hell Sakura" Ino said rushing up to her, "where have you been? Your mother said that you went to the library but isn't picking up. Then I get a call from you saying you're in the old school and that you're planning to leave."

"I can't stay here anymore" Sakura said facing Ino, "my family is a lie, the boy that I'm with is cheating on me, and the man that I love the first man I've truly gave my heart to has broken it. I need to leave now and I was hoping you would come with me. What do you say Ino?"

" Sakura I i," Ino started but closed her mouth.

" Ino?" Sakura reach for her friend but she yanked her hand away like Sakura had the plague.

" Sakura what wrong with you, I know you're stressed but I think your over doing it," Ino yelled wrapping her arms around herself.

" I'm not Ino, I am done being a puppet of my parents and I tire of being Ms. Perfect. I want to find my fire on my own. Ino come with me I know your not happy here. We can go we can." Sakura stopped when the notice Ino face. She looked afraid and paled.

" Ino what wrong" Sakura reached out for her friend again but Ino wrench away from her like Sakura touch was toxic. Sakura could see that Ino was trembling.

" Sakura stop talking crazy. What you just need some rest and tomorrow you'll be back to yourself. Look just come over to my place, sleep there and we can pretend that this talk never happened. "

Sakura hated herself for it but for a second just a second she she wanted to say yes to her old friend. She thought about going back to being the perfect student, the perfect girlfriend, the perfect daughter. But she didn't want to go on pretending to be perfect anymore.

"I can't do that anymore Ino. I have to learn to be myself not what others want of me. I'm going Ino and there nothing you can do or say to stop me. " Sakura stood up and walked to Ino, "But you can come with me Ino. With us together nothing in this world can stop us. So please come with me Ino, I'm begging you."

Sakura met Ino eyes pleading with her to take her hand but instead all she saw was fear. When she notice Ino backing up she felt her heart breaking again.

"I'm sorry Sakura I i just can't" Ino said right before running out the door leaving Sakura alone once again. For what felt like the billionth time that Sakura cried, she felt like her walls were crumbling down on her. She never so alone in her life, so lost.

"Where am I going to go now."

"I might be of help." Sakura head snapped up towards the source of the voice.

END OF FLASHBACK

"Ouch," Sakura was pulled out of her memories when she felt the heat from the blow dryer burn her ear. Placing the dryer down she notice in the mirror that she had started crying.

"I think you and Ino need to have a talk," her inner said.

"I think you're right," Sakura said drying her eyes.

…..

Sakura sat in her seat fiddling with the coffee cup that was before her. She couldn't calm done not only would she be having a very uncomfortable conversation with an old friend but this was the first time she had met up with someone outside her job.

" Sakura," she look up to see Ino walking to her smiling. Sakura got up and hug Ino before sitting back down.

She laughed, " I'm so glad we finally get to meet up. You don't know how hard it is to make plans when you have a son who hate anything that isn't the park, painting, or his daddy."

"It no problem" Sasuke said chuckling, "actually I'm surprised I thought that you would beat me here."

"I thought so too but Inojin all of a sudden wanted to throw a tantrum cause I was leaving. So me and Sai had to calm him down before I left, " Ino said shaking her head.

"It seems the mom life is keeping you busy." Sakura said taking a sip of her coffee. "It hard to imagine you as you are now. "

"It does I can't remember the last time I had some me time." she laughs, "but I don't think I would change it for the world. Just seeing him smile makes every ruined shirt, spilled mess, and tantrums worth it."

"Wow mommy life has really changed you but for the better. The Ino I use to know love two thing shopping and guys."

"The same goes for you Sakura. I did a little research on you before I came, Ms. Sakura Haruno apprentice to lady tsunade head of one of the best hospital in the world. Well I better get into the line before it gets any longer, I'll be right back.I'm so excited I'm going to pay the sweetest coffee and pastries they have up there. It's been a while since I could enjoy something sweet without someone else asking for some." Ino said giggling before leaving to get into the line.

While Sakura waited she fidgets with her cup and hands.

"Am I doing this right" she thought, "What if I boring her."

"The conversation literally just started how are you boring her," her inner said

"I don't know, I'm not as social as I once was. I used to know what to say and when to say it to make everyone if I can't and Ino leaves again like last time."

"Calm down, yeah you're not like how you use to be, but that just makes your responses more genuine and human. Just be your true selves and it should be fine. "

"I know but when I opened up to Ino just a little bit you saw how she lashed out."

"I know but we been friends with Ino since we can remember. She was always the main one telling us to be honest with her. When she gets back rip the bandage and be honest with her."

Taking a deep breath she calm her thoughts just in time for Ino to get back.

"Whew, that line is know joke, it's almost as bad as the line that was in the lunchroom."

"Yeah I remember you would ask to leave class early so you could go to the bathroom cause is was your "time of the month"" Sakura said making air quotes, "but you were really just going to lunch early to get a good spot."

"It worked though and then I would hold you a spot cause little Miss. Perfect couldn't fathom cutting class," Ino said rolling her eyes before taking a sip of her frappe.

"Of course not" Sakura said laughing, "what if my parents found out. I'd be good as dead."

"Well that fear didn't stop you from disappearing during lunch. Me and poor Hinata had to sit by ourselves we were so lonely" she said faking a sad look before laughing, "Speaking of that where did you go?"

"Um well since you bring it up" Sakura looked down to her cup, "you remember Sasuke Daisuki."

"School heart throb, school bad boy, school steal your girl fuck her and give her right back in a minute that Sasuke Daisuke."

"Yeah so during lunch, after school, I was with him," Sakura said looking everywhere but at Ino.

Ino started choking on her coffee, "what, you were with Sasuke the Sasuke. What about Gyōgi weren't you with him."

"Gyōgi was cheating on me with Ami. Long before I was with Sasuke."

"Ohhhh I didn't know" Ino look sad for a second before smirking, " but who would have thought that the Sakura Haruno had a thing for revenge."

"It start as revenge but then it grew into something else something more. He made me feel things, things that Gyōgi never made feel. When I was with him I felt for the first time like my appearance didn't matter."

"So that night you called me did he have something to with that," Ino asked.

"He was a part of it but he wasn't the entire reason, Sakura said before taking a deep breathe, "That night I called you was the night I told my mother that I couldn't keep seeing Gyōgi and instead of consoling me, she told me that I had to think about what other people would think, and then she said that my father was cheating on her."

Ino brought her hand to her mouth, "oh my God Sakura really."

Sakura's eyes began to water, "yeah he had a whole family on the side and I didn't even know about it. My mom knew though but didn't care as long as the neighbor didn't know and she expected that life for Gyōgi and I. I knew that night that I couldn't live that life not anymore."

"That explains why you wanted to leave but why were you in the abandoned school."

"That night I went to the abandoned school ground to meet up with Sasuke. I was going to tell that I didn't want to hide what we had anymore. I was going to tell him that I loved him."

"Why didn't you," she asked sipping her coffee.

"I did but he laughed at me. He broke my heart and left me crying on the floor that night."

"I was so surprised, when you left I just thought it was just stress you know. Like once you destress you would come back, that you would go back to Gyōgi and marry him. I regret not being there for you when you need it Sakura. I remember when we use to talk non stop there wasn't anything we didn't know about each other. I really miss that," she said.

"Yeah" Sakura said stirring her straw aimlessly, " Ino what happened that night I told you about Sasuke."

There a thick silence both of them knew the answer but neither wanted to say anything. Ino sigh before looking down at her hand, " Sakura I want to apologize. "

Sakura looked up in shook before Ino continued, "that night when you opened up to me and I blew up at you I shouldn't have done that. I was going through a lot. But no matter how fucked up my life got, i, I looked to you for guidance for support. Being around you made me feel like, I don't know less broken. Like 'yeah you're trash but as long as your friend with the Sakura Haruno you'll look slightly less bad. "

"Ino I needed you that night and you turned your back on me."

"I know and to this day I regret the things I said. And I know this doesn't change anything but I wasn't smart like you Sakura, all I had in my mind was my looks and money. If I lost that I thought that I would have nothing, that I would be nothing. So when you open up about your plans that voice wasn't saying support your friend it was screaming without her your nothing," a tear slipped down Ino's cheek before she wiped it away.

" Ino why didn't you tell me that you felt this way." Sakura said reaching out and gently grabbing Ino's hand.

"You were Ms. Perfect Sakura, you always knew what to say and do, I felt self conscience about telling you this. You know how our parents raise us to think. Tears are only for behind closed doors."

"Still I should have notice something was wrong. I should have notice the signs. I left and you were alone." Sakura said.

" Sakura you were going through the same stuff I was and I wasn't alone" Ino smile as she looks at her wedding ring, " Sai was there for me, when I was going to a dark place he held out his hand to pull me out. He also help me realize how unfair I was to you. He helped me see my worth. You don't know how long I've been waiting to see you to tell you how sorry I was. "

"Oh Ino I've missed us" Sakura said reaching over to hug Ino.

"I missed us too," Ino said hugging her back.

"Now enough with this sappy crap and lets talk some more about the things we use to talk about. " Ino pulled a mischievous smile the same one she use to pull when they were young.

"Like what," Sakura ask reluctantly.

"Like how good is Sasuke in the sack," Ino ask before taking a bite of her pastry.
