The trek to her department was a blur. Was that Draco Malfoy? The Draco Malfoy? He's been working out, huh? Ginny did not remember the ferret being that buff back in school, but then again everyone had changed since the war ended, hadn't they? Ginny herself had gained back some much needed weight. Although, she wasn't in tip-top Quidditch shape at the moment, she did look healthy. The stresses of her sixth year at Hogwarts had caused her to lose a considerable amount of weight. Muscles included. When the final battle came, Ginny was surprised that she could even lift her wand.
The double doors to the Department of Magical Law Enforcement swam into her vision. She paused just outside to collect her thoughts. It does not do to dwell... and all that rot. She straightened her back, squared her shoulders and pushed the doors opens. Waltzing in as if she owned every soul in the room. Much to her dissatisfaction, everyone else just carried on with their tasks; paying her no mind at all. She took a moment to breathe and look around. There were about a dozen couplings of desks in the center of the room. On the far wall hang cork boards with pictures and other papers tacked up. To the left started a long hallway that Ginny knew lead to the interrogation rooms and a few small holding cells. Paper planes zoomed about the room, landing where intended. To her right was a small desk. A desk that held a painful grip on her future. She cringed at the sight of it. For about the 432nd time that day she screamed internally at herself. This was not what she wanted to do with her life. She wanted to do something with purpose. She wanted to help people, and not by answering phones and making appointments.
Someone cleared their throat behind her and she turned, surprised to see the steel-grey eyes from her dreams.
"Going to stand around all day, Miss Weasley? Or is there something you should be getting to?" Damn him and that fucking drawl, Ginny thought to herself. Instead of responding, she turned on her heel to march toward Harry's desk, but a hand on her shoulder stopped her.
"Aren't you curious as to why I'm here?" Malfoy asked.
"I assumed they had the proper evidence to put you away, you git" Ginny huffed, nose in the air. Hurt flashed across Draco's features before he covered it with cool indifference. For a moment Ginny felt bad, but then the Ponce of Slytherin opened his mouth again.
"I'm actually here for Auror training. Today is my first day." Ginny was seething. How dare he? How dare he get to live her dream when he was a horrible person? He probably just wants to use his Auror status to help his friends escape convictions! Fuck that and fuck him!
