Due to the Contract 9- Blooming Lily
Rin's POV
The day was going on like any other at the Oster dormitory. I was in a particularly good mood that day. I had no idea why, which made it all the better. I was humming along as I headed back from the kitchen after drinking a wonderfully refreshing glass of orange juice. As I neared my room, I heard a guitar playing. Could it be Len? I know he could play the guitar a bit, but why would he be in the girls' hall? Following the sound led me to Miku's room. I slowly opened the door to see Miku sitting at her desk with an acoustic guitar focused on strumming, then writing something on a notebook on the desk.
"Wow, Miku! I didn't know you could play the guitar!" I surprised her apparently as she jumped at my voice.
"Oh! Ah, yes, I do." She admitted shyly. "I've been playing since I was small."
"What were you playing just now?" I asked as I entered and took a seat on her bed.
"A new song I'm writing. It's a love song." She handed me the sheet music and I read the lyrics. The words were sad and really heartfelt.
"Miku...these lyrics are so beautiful!"
"Thanks, Rin. Actually, there's a hidden message in this song. I really wrote it for my older brother, and how much I want to see him again." She said and looked at her hand. I noticed that there was a small rose gold ring on her finger.
"You have a brother?"
"Yep! His name is Mikuo."
"What? How come I haven't met him? How come I'm just finding out about this?"
"You haven't met him because I don't know where he is." She said.
"What do you mean? Where is he?" I asked. She sighed.
"Around the time when he first started high school, he started to get into a lot of trouble. He and my father were always arguing-whenever he actually came home that is. And my mom was really sad about it. We all were. But one day my father got fed up with his behavior and they started arguing...it was really bad and he stormed out of the house. No one's even heard from him and that was 4 years ago."
"Miku... that's so sad! You have to find him! I'm sure he's seen you, you're super famous now!"
"Well, I was hoping that maybe he'll understand the message and...I don't know. I just want him to know that I'm thinking of him, at least."
"You should name the song 'Come Home Mikuo' and I'm sure he'll show up!" She looked as if she were seriously considering it but then started laughing.
Miku's POV
Later on, Rin and I decided to play tennis. Talking about Mikuo upset me a bit and I had a feeling that she could tell. Len was sitting in the umpires chair keeping score. I bounced the ball and thought about my next swing. Rin was in a slightly lowered stance and bounced her weight from leg to leg, anticipating my serve. I tossed the ball into the air, and hit it to the other side of the court. Rin ran to where she thought the ball would end up and swung. We volleyed the ball for a while but a hard hit from me got it to a point where Rin couldn't reach in time.
"40, love!" Len called out. "Rin, you're doing horribly!"
"Oh be quiet! I haven't played in a while. Plus Miku, you're actually pretty good!" Rin said as she grabbed her bottle of an orange-flavored sport drink and took in a few big gulps.
"I used to play in junior high. My school won a lot of tournaments." I told them. Rin aggressively wiped off any juice left on her lips and tossed the now empty bottle aside.
"Yeah, yeah, well prepare for a comeback! You ready?" She yelled.
"As I'll ever be!" I said. I was tossing the ball up in the air to find the right momentum when Luka strolled onto the side of the court. "Hey, Luka!"
"Hello, hello!" she said in sing song as she walked over besides Len. "Who's winning?" She asked.
"I'm about to!" I bounced the ball and served it to Rin's side of the court.
"You seem to be in a good mood. Something bad must be happening." Len said to Luka.
"Not bad, per say, but something interesting for sure." She started. "It seems that Lily will be coming into town. She's on her way here now. She'll be here tomorrow."
Rin froze after hearing what she said and didn't run after the ball, causing her to lose the point.
"I win!" I cheered. Rin and Len's faces both had a grave expression and I felt bad for celebrating. "What's up? Who's Lily?"
"Only the most devious, untrustworthy, sorry excuse for a girl I've ever met!" Rin yelled balling her hands into fists. You could almost hear her racket snapping with how tight her grip was now on it.
"What she means is that Lily is the president of Oster's daughter." Luka explained.
Rin grumbled something and stomped off the court.
"I'd better go and calm her down." Len said as he climbed down from the chair and jogged after her. I looked over at Luka who had a wry smile on her face.
Len's POV
"Rin!" I called after her as she ran into her room. She didn't wait for me, but didn't close the door so I entered behind her and closed it myself.
"Here we go again! Why does she have to come here? I can't stand it. Now I'm going to have to endure days of her torture!" She yelled and finally threw the tennis racket at the wall. I let out a sigh and walked over to her. I wrapped my arms around her and rubbed her back until her muscles were no longer tense. I felt her hand reach up and grab onto my arm.
"I hate this just as much as you do, Rin, but it's what you signed up for, ya know? We both did. Either we play along or our contract will be terminated and we won't be able to be Vocaloids anymore."
"Yeah I know, but I really hate Lily. She hates me too, which is why she acts the way she does." She rested her head on my shoulder.
"It's only because she doesn't know the truth. To her you're just my sister who gets jealous over her brother." I said. She groaned and broke away from my embrace to sit on the bed.
"I just wish she wasn't the president's daughter. She can pretty much do whatever she wants, it's so annoying! Why couldn't she like Kaito or literally any other singer?"
"You know what they say, you can't help who you fall in love with!" I said with shrug and sat next to her. We sit in silence for a while until she, instead, wrapped herself around me. it was sudden and made my heart pound.
"Hey, Len… stay with me." She sat up without letting go of me. Our faces were so close and her eyes seemed like they'd start crying at any moment. "I won't have you for a few days so can I at least have you tonight?"
Hearing her say this shot a wave of pain throughout me, but I smiled nonetheless.
"I'm yours forever, Rin. Never forget that." I told her and leaned in for a kiss.
Miku's POV
The next day I had an odd feeling in my core. I was anxious to see what kind of person Lily was, but I still felt like there was something else making me feel this way. I was watching a drama program with Rin and Len and Kaito in the living room when my cell phone in my pocket began to ring.
"Hello, Miku here!" I answered.
"Hi, Kumi..." It was my mother.
"Oh, hey, Mom."
"Are you busy? Right now?" She asked. Her tone was worrisome.
"Not really, I'm just watching TV with everyone. What's wrong, is everything okay?"
"Do you think you can come home right now?"
"Yeah, sure. I'll come now." She hung up. This must be the cause of my strange feeling. I stood up from the couch. "Guys, I have to run to my house really quick."
"Is everything alright?" Kaito asked.
"I'm...not sure." I admitted.
"But what about Lily? I wanted you to be here when she comes..." Rin said.
"Sorry, looks like I'll miss her, but I'll be back, okay, Rin?"
I arranged for the driver to take me to my house. Just as I was leaving a limo pulled up to the front of the dormitory. I saw a tall girl with blonde hair get out, but I was already too far to get a view of her face. I pulled up to my home, practically ran to the door, and went inside.
"Mom? I'm home!" I called out as I quickly took off my shoes. It was unusually quiet. I headed to the living room. "Chibi-Mi? Mom? Where is-" My voice cut once I saw who was in the living room.
"Long time no see, little sis."
