First Impressions
I don't own the Walking Dead!
I felt like such dweeb when I realized that I forgot to put the song anywhere in the last chapter for you guys. The song Beth and Daryl danced to was; Tell Her You Love Her by Echosmith.
Beth could not stop smiling. She had woken up before her alarm and couldn't help but lay in bed thinking about the last two nights with Daryl. Her date with him at the wedding rehearsal was beyond anything she could have dreamed of, getting to know him and talking was so great. Beth thought that her luck had run out the next day. She knew that as her sister's maid of honor that there would be a lot of responsibilities to take care of but it seemed like everyone wanted to try and dance with her. Beth had been close to screaming when all of a sudden Chase cut in while dancing with some relative. Harley was up at the mic, a scheming look in her eyes, and Maggie was okay with it. Chase had danced her over to Daryl, from there the night was something out of a dream. The two made promises to go on another date but this time Daryl would be planning it.
Getting up and ready for the day was surprisingly easy, the song from last night was still on the young blonde's mind as she got dressed and even as she drove to work. It would be a long shift today but with Harley sending pictures of Daryl at work and then Daryl texting her somehow Beth didn't mind. By the time her shift was over and Beth was out of her scrubs Harley had suggested that they go out to eat with the boys. It brought another huge smile to the young blondes face at the thought of spending time with her best friend and the guy she was falling for. It wasn't until Beth stepped into the shop that she realized something was off.
"Is everything okay?" Beth asked. Harley looked pissed and Chase was doing his best to comfort her but it seemed like nothing was helping.
"Dale stopped by and said that he gave the fucking shop away." Harley huffed. "Didn't give us no warning, or anything. Just waltzed in here and said he was retiring and already knew what he was going to fucking do with the shop. Didn't ask our damn opinion on what we wanted to happen or any fucking shit."
Harley tore out of the shop and Chase let out a sigh as he followed her. Beth wanted to say something but knew it was best to let Harley work out her anger without her help. Turning to Daryl she looked over at him to see what he thought of all this. It was clear he had a few thoughts on what was happening but there were times that he couldn't get a word in edge wise when Harley rampaged and Beth knew that first hand.
"What do you think of all this?" Beth asked as she turned to the rough artist.
"I know who Dale gave the shop to." Daryl spoke quietly. He was leaning against one of the counters and Beth walked closer to him. "He'd been wanting to retire for a long time but could never find the right opportunity. Tried going to Tyreese about it but he didn't feel like it was right for him. Dale talked to others but nothing seemed to work out."
Daryl was about to continue when there was a loud beep. Both groaned, knowing that it was Harley being impatient. Daryl grabbed Beth's hand as they walked out of the shop. Harley was already in Chase's car so he led the young blonde to his bike. He knew that they wouldn't be able talk much on the bike but the smile on Beth's face was worth it. He enjoyed having Beth's arms wrapped around his waist as they rode to one of the Chinese restaurants in town.
"Harley just calm down." Chase tried to talk to her as she paced. Beth knew that Harley was probably nervous about the changes going on. If there was one thing the blonde knew her best friend hated was change.
"Daryl, Chase, how about you guys get us a table?" Beth suggested. Chase could see he wouldn't be getting anywhere with Harley and Daryl knew that it was probably for the best that the blonde talked to his sister. "Alright Harley, what's going on?"
"I'm fucking terrified Beth, that's what's going on." Harley almost yelled. "Not only have I found out that I might lose my job because who the hell knows what kind of guy Dale passed the shop too, Chase said that he doesn't want to be just friends anymore. For fuck's sake Beth, I thought everything was going great! He knows that I need to take things slow but for him to drop that on me."
"Okay first off anyone who loses you would be incredibly stupid." Beth tried to work on one thing at a time. "You did an amazing job on my tattoo and you're an amazing artist. No one in their right mind would want to fire you."
Beth could tell that her words were helping as Harley visibly relaxed some. "Now, maybe Chase is on to something. I've seen you guys together and he really cares about you. It's clear to me that he thinks the world of you and has even talked to me about dating you. I don't know your thoughts on all this Harley but just think about it. He may not wait forever, like I said I know he's a great guy but you've got to take a leap too."
Harley hugged her best friend, she knew Beth was right and would have to talk with Chase. It scared her how willing Chase was to go at her pace but at the same time Harley knew he may get tired of her pushing him away.
"Now let's go get something to eat." Beth smiled as she hooked arms with Harley. The two walked into the restaurant and found the two men had already ordered food. The young blonde was surprised that most of what the two ordered were Harley and Beth's favorite. It was quiet for a while before Daryl spoke up.
"I was talking to Beth about this earlier but I know who Dale gave the shop to." Daryl paused, gauging his sister's reaction. Seeing that she was waiting for him to continue he took a deep breath. "He asked me if I wanted to own the shop. Dale said I could rename it if I wanted, give it a new look, the whole nine yards. He said that he trusted me with my decisions."
"So what are you going to do?" Harley was suddenly nervous.
"Well I haven't put much thought into it since he just officially asked me today. I want you to help me though." Daryl explained. Between the two of them he knew they had degrees for running a business but this would be an all new experience for him. "I had thought about maybe updating the shop a little and possibly renaming it. Tyreese will still be night manager but I'll be hiring more people and getting rid of Martinez. I also want to make you the new day time manager."
Harley thought if she had been taking a bite or drink then it would've ended up on Chase. Her brother couldn't be serious yet he wasn't saying anything to take it back. Beth knew that Harley was in shock but was happy for the both of them.
"When will everything be announced and official?" Beth asked. Daryl shrugged as he had no clue but could feel himself actually excited. This would be the first time he would have something that would be his.
"Not sure, everything's happening pretty fast though." Daryl couldn't help but smile. Beth smiled brightly at Daryl, he seemed like he was excited.
The four ate dinner and spent the rest of the time talking about plans for the shop. Daryl contemplated on keeping the name but Harley argued that would be something people related to Dale and not the Dixons. Beth helped with her input on what she thought would be good ideas for the shop and how it could be improved or changed. There was still a lot of things that Daryl would be keeping but since he was taking over Daryl wanted to make sure that this showed who he was and the rest of his crew as well.
By the time they finished eating Beth could almost feel the excitement between the siblings. Harley and Chase decided to go back to his apartment while Beth and Daryl would be picking up her car to then take back to her apartment. Beth was quickly becoming a fan of riding on the back of Daryl's bike, she loved the wind and the feeling of her arms around his waist. The ride felt over too soon as they were back at the shop in front of her car.
"So uh Beth, I was hoping we could maybe grab lunch at some point this week?" Daryl asked nervously. Beth had to admire how cute he looked.
"I'd like that a lot, it could be just the two of us?" Beth suggested. As much as she loved Harley, Beth saw her almost every day and wanted to spend time with Daryl.
"Of course, besides I would like to have time with you to myself." Daryl was thankful that it was getting closer to fall and that it was darker sooner so that Beth couldn't see the slight red tint to his cheeks.
"I feel the same way." Beth knew that despite the lack of light there was no hiding the fact that she was happy, it was clear in her voice and her eyes sparkled brightly under the dimly lit street light. "I like getting to know you more. Harley's told me a lot of stories about you two growing up but there are so many things that I would still love to know."
"Well then sunshine, guess you'll just have to wait and find out." Daryl smiled gently. He felt slightly bad for keeping Beth standing outside her car but they both had work and he didn't want to tempt himself with inviting her over to his place. Plus he wasn't even sure if they were to that level yet, technically they'd gone on two dates but he didn't know where she thought they stood. He'd have to talk to her about it. "I've kept you out here far too long and we both have work, I have to meet with Dale tomorrow to go over paperwork."
"I hope that all goes well, I'll text you during my lunch break so that we can set something up during the week." Beth grabbed her keys from her pocket. Hesitantly she leaned forward and hugged Daryl, he was surprised but eagerly returned it. Leaning down he caught her by surprise with a chaste kiss on the mouth causing the young woman to smile widely.
"Have a good night, text me when you're home so I know you got there safely." Daryl said as he watched her get in the car. Beth waved, slightly sad to leave.
"I will, you do the same." Beth requested knowing how dangerous it could be for him to be out on his bike at night.
The two parted ways and soon were both home in their respective apartments. Beth sent Daryl a text as soon as she walked in the door, relieved to get a reply not long after. She also sent one to Harley who had text asking if she got home okay. Once Beth finished texting, she put her phone on charge and then got ready for bed. It was a lot quieter without her roommate, since Harley was more nocturnal at times despite her efforts to be quiet would make noise in the kitchen or in her room when moving around, and Beth found it hard to fall asleep.
When her alarm did go off the next morning Beth was wishing for more time, it was incredibly tempting to hit the snooze button but with all her will power Beth got up and jumped in the shower. Once she was out Beth was delighted to see that Maggie had sent her a few pictures from her and Glenn's honeymoon, they would be back sometime next week after traveling to Europe. It had been a surprise gift from Beth, Shawn, and their parents since Maggie had always wanted to see Europe and Glenn was a huge fan of Doctor Who. Beth text her sister to see how she was doing before heading off to work.
It was later in the week that Daryl and Beth were able to meet up for lunch, it seemed that their schedules overlapped that particular week. They went to a small coffee shop not too far from the medical center, the pair ordered their lunch then found a table away from all the commotion of the lunch rush.
"How did things go with your meeting?" Beth asked.
"Good, I've been thinking about it and was considering maybe doing some redecorating of the place. Might even change the name, make it more of my own thing." Daryl explained. "I have no clue what to do though."
"I'm sure you'll think of something." Beth assured him. She was quiet for a moment then spoke up. "So I know we've only gone on a couple of dates but I was wondering where you see this going."
"I really like you and could see this going far. I honestly want to continue seeing you sunshine." Daryl smiled softly at the girl in front of him. Beth beamed at him, falling even more for the wonderful man than she thought possible.
So this is fluff with some movement! I actually had something different planned out but I scrapped it and so here's this. I would love to hear your opinions on what Daryl should do about the shop's name, if I get enough suggestions I may do a contest. It depends. Anyways it's always awesome hearing from you guys so leave some love if you can! Until next time.
