Lee caressed Charlie's bare back and thought about how perfect the moment was, and how he wished it would never end. He looked at his watch and he knew he would need to burst the bubble of this perfection.
He was still worried about the fact that he had no idea how he would be able to get Charlie to safety. He was more than certain that there was a way off this plane, he just had to keep looking for a solution. He had four more days before Barney had to meet up with Church to give him what he had requested, and it was more than obvious that once Church had what he needed, he would get rid of Charlie, something that he knew he could not live with more now than before.
There was a turbulence and Lee realized it was due to a shift of air pressure as he felt it in his ears.
"We've shifted altitude", he said in Charlie's ear after having kissed her. "We're probably on our way to pick Church up somewhere".
Charlie opened her eyes and even though in general she would have smiled, here she knew there was no time. "What time is it"?
Lee looked at his watch. "It's a little after six in the morning". Seeing the altimeter on his watch he knew they didn't have much time. "We've got maximum fifteen minutes before this bird touches the ground".
He stood from the bed and dressed as she did the same.
"I'll make sure there is no indication of our passage here, and you scout the rest of the plane," she said as she started to put the bed back in place.
He smiled at the fact that it was exactly what he'd had in mind. The two of them seemed to be on the same wavelength.
He stopped, on his way to the door, took her in his arms, and locked eyes with hers. "Last night is not something I'm about to give up on, I hope you know that"?
The smiled she had initially planned at her awakening in his arms, came to her face. "I'll hold you to that".
He kissed her passionately and exited Church's cabin as she did one of the things she knew how to do best, remove every trace of her passage.
Lee during that time, finished his search of the back of the plane, finding an element that gave him hope. But he knew that it needed to be planned and not freestyle. The plan was to get Charlie out and to safety, not compromise her well-being and life.
As Charlie left Church's quarters, and walked down the aisle, none of the guys in the control center turned to look at her. They were too busy preparing for his return. Charlie headed for her room and settled down in the bed and pretended to fall asleep as if she had always been there.
As the plane made its final descent, Lee joined her and settled down in the chair. He gave Charlie one last genuine smile before each of them took back their individual roles of watch dog and hostage.
As Charlie closed her eyes, she couldn't help but think back to the night before. She hadn't felt what she had with Lee for a long time. She hadn't allowed herself to. With the job she did, most men she met, were either intimidated by her or they tried to show they were better than her, that they could dominate her. Hardly ever, had she met someone who treated her as an equal, someone like Lee had.
The plane landed and stopped briefly. Charlie heard the airplane door open then close a few minutes later. The plane then headed back to the runway and was back up in the air. Yeah, Church wasn't one to take risks.
Once it had reached its cruising altitude, there was a knock on the door.
Lee stood from the chair and walked over to open it. One of the other guys from Church's team was standing in the doorframe.
"Church is requesting her presence for breakfast."
Lee nodded and looked at Charlie. "Get up," he said in a harsh tone that almost surprised her. He was just as good as she was to jump back in his role.
She stood and ignored him as she headed out of the room and upstairs were Church was standing near the table, patiently waiting for her.
"Church," she said as she headed for the table.
"Good morning, Charlie. I hope that Mr. O'Connor wasn't too unpleasant in my absence."
Charlie lifted an eyebrow and gave Lee a dark look. "He's a real pain in the ass, this one. He shadows me and everything I do. Can't you get him off my back and have him do something else on this plane?"
Church laughed. "I'm paying him exactly for what he's doing. I thought you'd get along."
He walked up to her and made her pivot as he placed himself behind her, a bit too close for her comfort and now Lee's. He placed his face on the side of Charlie's neck and his mouth at the level of her ear.
"You have to admit he's got great looks, you don't find him, even just a tad to your taste?"
Charlie looked at Lee from head to toe. "If you've done your homework, like you said you've done, you know he's not my type."
Church smiled. "You're right, he's not your type. You prefer a savvy businessman, a man who has made a name for himself, and will be able to cover you with all the riches in the world."
"Exactly," replied Charlie as Church removed himself from behind her. "O'Connor is a nobody, he's nothing."
Charlie sat down her back to Lee. She knew that it was easy to mislead Church with her words and her acting, but if she faced Lee, she feared that everything she felt for him would be betrayed by the way she looked at him.
"Have you ever wondered what your father looked like?" asked Church as he dropped a lump of sugar in his coffee cup.
Lee ticked. Why was Church so adamant about talking to her about Barney?
"I guess there were times when I did. I don't look entirely like my mother, so I imagine that what I didn't take from her, I took from him."
"What would you do if you were able to spend an hour with him?"
Lee's jaws clenched. Church was really a bastard. He was playing with her like a cat was playing with a live mouse.
"I don't know, I guess I never really thought about it, because it would never happen. But I guess, just talk to him, get to know him, see what kind of man he is/was."
She tilted her head to the side and looked at Church as she took a bite in a strawberry. "Do you think I have abandonment issues?"
"No."
"Then why do you constantly want me to talk about my father. I feel like I'm in therapy, whereas what I would really like to know is exactly what I'm being used for?"
Before she could get an answer from Church, his phone beeped, and he looked at it. He frowned which was rather unlike him.
"I have an important business deal that needs my negotiating."
He stood and so did she a bit abruptly. She was sick of games and him not telling her anything.
"I demand an answer!"
Church didn't even flinch. "Mr. O'Connor, please escort Charlie back to her quarters."
Lee grabbed Charlie's upper arm and started to pull her away.
"You're a coward Church," she said.
He put his hand up, summoning Lee to stop pulling her backward. He narrowed his eyes as he placed himself a few inches away from hers.
"Charlie, before you demand answers, you need to make sure that you'll be able to cope with opening Pandora's box."
With that, he turned heels and headed away as Lee started to pull Charlie back again toward the stairs.
