Hello everyone! Thank you for reading!
This story is really just a personal challenge to see "Can I pick a random prompt from my Pinterest board and write a short story on it in less than a week?" And to prove that I no longer have writer's block, which seemed to plague me for all of December (yay holiday craziness!) So I hope this story helps put a smile on your face :) So as always, take care and God bless!
Chapter 1
Thursday
It smelled too clean. And was too bright. Nerdy posters lined the walls and vials and gadgets filled every bookshelf he saw, but that didn't stop Gajeel from tromping down the hallway, steps heavy as he stared straight ahead. He threw open a door and paused in the doorway, gaze taking in the research students who stared at him with wide eyes.
If I can just calculate the magical strength of the rune as a whole…
Nope, not here.
He turned on his heel and trekked further down the hallway. He could see his reflection on the laminated floor and he was struck with the vast difference between the research building and the ball field where he usually hung out. He stuck out like a sore thumb, even if he made sure to shower and change his clothes after his morning practice.
Whispers followed after him as he made his way farther down the hallway. One arm swung widely, a lingering stiffness forming after practice, and his other hand carefully gripped a large bouquet of daisies. Gajeel ignored the stares coming at him from every open door, his mind focused on the sweet voice that constantly whispered in his ears.
No, runes wouldn't help. Solid script would still be the best choice, but finding a good sample…
He was close, he could feel it. The voice in his head still chattered away and he couldn't help but grin, even though he had no idea what she was talking about. At the end of the hallway sat two large, double doors. Gajeel widened his steps and threw open the doors. The voice screeched to a halt.
He was only able to take a brief glance around the room before his eyes rested on a tiny, blue-haired girl sitting on a stool near the center of the room. An open notebook sat on the counter in front of her and she stared at him with her dark eyes, pencil dangling from her fingers.
How did he find me so quickly?
Gajeel gulped and stomped forward. The tiny girl squeaked and held her notebook against her chest like a shield.
Wait, why is he getting closer!? What do I do!?
Gajeel stopped right in front of her stool and shoved the bouquet at her. The bright petals shook in front of her nose and he finally managed to open his mouth.
"I'm sick and tired of hearin' ya in my head all the time, so I'm takin' ya out with me!"
A gasp echoed behind him and the girl's mouth hung open. But it wasn't until her notebook fell to the ground with a soft thump that Gajeel realized his mistake. Heat traveled up his neck and into his ears.
Oops, that…that wasn't how I practiced.
