Book four Peace Chapter one: Avatar Wedding
Min knocked on Ren's door, waiting for her to answer. When Ren didn't answer the door, Min opened it to find the room empty. She shook her head, and headed for the courtyard. She knew she was in the city again. Min thought Ren was extremely focused on the traids. Lin, and Sky said they would handle it, but Ren insisted on helping. She was supposed to be helping with the little bit that needed done for the wedding. She, and Sky had been engaged for two years, but Ren let other people plan most of the wedding. Ren was always so avatarish as Min put it. Min saw Ren walk up the stairs, and she crossed her arms.
"Where were you?" Min asked.
"Umm I didn't think I had to answer to you I mean I am twenty. If you must know I was doing avatar duties," Ren said.
Ren knew that Min was not trying to be a pain, but she was working on Ren's nerves. Min was only doing as she was asked. Ren walked into the dining area to see the women waiting for her. She knew they sent Min to be the victim if Ren lost her temper. Jinora gestured for Ren to come sit with them. Ren sat down with a giant sigh. A piece of her hair fell in her face, and she tried to blow it away. Everyone looked at her, and Su cleared her throat.
"Ren, is there something that is bothering you?" Su asked.
"Yes. I don't understand why Sky and I need this big extravagant wedding. We are very busy and important people. He is the assistant chief of police and I am the avatar. We don't have time to waste on planning these things. We need to make sure everything is calm and at peace," Ren said.
"Every Beifong that is married has had a big wedding. Kuvira, and Baatar. Wei, and Ajala. Wing, and Yun. Mom, and dad. Bolin, and I. Avatars from what I have understood have big weddings as well. Korra, and Iroh did. From my understanding so did Aang and Katara. Ren, it is something that has happened in the past, so it is happening again. You only have a couple days left then you're a Beifong, so just bear with us," Opal.
"Mom, why is Aunt Ren being such a pain in your butt?" A little boy asked.
"Ty, that isn't very nice. Ask your Aunt Ren though," Kuvira said.
Ren looked at Kuvira before she decided it was best to plan finish planning the wedding. Asami stuck pictures of possible hairstyles in front of her. Jinora showed her the guest list. Su was showing her options on color for the napkins. Sesi showed her who the entertainment was. Pema showed her the seating chart. Ren thought how none of this was going to work in the Spirit World. They clearly didn't understand the Spirit World if they thought all of that was okay. Ren only wanted friends and family to be there. She looked out the window at the spirit portal, sighing again. Jinora gave Ren a half smile, seeing her expression. Ren stood up, and looked at everyone before she walked away. Jinora sighed as Ren walked out of the room.
Ren grabbed her glider, and flew into the city. Ren landed at City Hall, and just looked at the building. She walked in to see the world leaders, and council talking. They would look at some documents then look at each other before discussing them. When they noticed Ren was in the room they stopped, and stared at her for a while. Tenzin stood, and walked toward her.
"Ren, shouldn't you be back on the island helping the women finish with the planning of your wedding?" Tenzin asked.
"Grandpa Tenzin, not you too. I get my wedding is in a couple days, but I'm the avatar. My priority is the world, and any issues it had, or has. I want to protect the world," Ren said.
Everyone looked at her for a moment before Ren groaned, and stormed out of City of Hall. Ren knew they were hiding something from her until after her wedding day. Ren walked toward Police Headquarters when something felt off. She turned around, but didn't see anything. She continued to walk, but then she heard something. She turned around in time to avoid a chunk of earth. She then saw two flames coming her way, and an ice spike. Ren jumped in the air, but still didn't see her threat. She then saw members of the Agni Kai Triad, Red Monsoon Triad, Terra Triad, and Triple Threat Triad. She had never seen the traids work together. When she landed she swept her glider across the ground then her feet, sending two giant gusts of wind. A few of the earthbenders put up a barrier. There was a water whip coming toward her. Ren froze the water, and broke a piece off sending it back. She started to firebend as fast as she could. She was knocked on the ground with a large chunk of earth. She tried to get up, but was hit with water. She was hit with another chunk of earth. The next time Ren tried to get up she was his with a ball of fire. She laid on the ground holding her side as the traids approached her. She then saw a blast of air towards the traids. She then saw metal cables, and chunks of earth. She then saw water whips go by. Ren sat up to see Lin, Sky, Tenzin, and Tonraq.
She stood up as the traids started to run away. Ren lifted her shirt a little to see bruises. She pushed on them a bit before they hurt. She grabbed her glider off the ground, and started to walk toward the group. She suddenly felt dizzy, and she started to see black dots. She tried to keep walking, but she fell to the ground. The group ran over to her to see she was still conscious. Ren laid on the ground as the black dots soon became just black. Lin slapped Ren's face, but she didn't wake up. Sky picked Ren up, and carried her to the Police Headquarters. When they arrived, he placed her in the cot in his office. He watched as she laid there for a bit. He pinched the bridge of his nose before he sat at his desk. He had become so stressed these last few months. The traids had started joining forces which made things harder, and then the wedding. There was also talk about everyone was retiring from their positions. It would be chaos until positions were filled. Sky wished the council, world leaders, Lin, and Ren would relax for the time being.
Sky looked at the cot when he heard a slight mumble. Ren sent a blast of air while still unconscious. Sky pulled water out of his pouches, and made a barrier out of ice. He was lucky enough that the air blast only shattered the ice. He ran over to Ren, and started to shake her. Ren hit him before she woke up. Sky ran his tongue across his lip. It was bleeding a bit, but he was more concerned with Ren. Ren looked around to find herself in Sky's office. Ren thought she was battling traids. Maybe she was dreaming. She saw the shattered ice around Sky's office. She raised an eyebrow. Sky gave her a look as he pointed at her. She sighed as she thought about all the stress she was under. The traids? Now she had to put up with the traids. She stayed in the cot, and looked at Sky.
"You know what this means don't you? If the traids are working together that means they are working under one person, which means we have another inbalance. If that person convinced the traids to work together who knows who they can get to work together. The world needs its avatar again," Ren said.
Ren placed a hand over her mouth before she got up. She grabbed her glider, and started to walk out of the building. She opened her glider, and she flew toward the island. When she arrived she whistled for Hope. The giant armadillo lion ran into the courtyard, and ran into Ren. Jinora and Pema walked out to see a cut on Ren's lip, and noticed her grab her side. Ren placed her arm of Hope's neck, and the two walked towards her bedroom. Ren opened her door, and walked in to the mess it had become the last few weeks. Ren sat on her bed, and looked at Hope before she looked out the window. Ren took a deep breath as she thought about the fight with the traids again. She ran her hands across her face before standing and walking to the shower room. She turned on the water on before something felt off.
She waited a few minutes before she turned the water on. Something still didn't feel right. She ran her had through the water before she pulled a water whip out and hit a traid member. She used water to pin him against the wall. She also pinned him against the wall with earth. She got in his face, and punch him. She was going to hit him again, but Kai and Jinora came in. Ren was breathing heavily as Kai pulled her away from the member of the traid.
"Who sent you?" Jinora asked.
"The avatar already knows," the man said.
Ren balled her fist. She bent the earth and water off of him. She grabbed him, and slammed him on the floor. She stepped on his chest as he tried to get up. He tried to push her foot off of him, but she pushed harder. She knew he wasn't going to tell. She wrapped her metal cables around him. She drug him toward the courtyard. She whistled for Hope and the two walked towards the docks. They got on the ferry to take the traid member to the Police Headquarters. She watched him as they sailed to Republic City. She thought about what he said to her. She knew who sent him. She couldn't think of who sent him.
When they arrived at the docks Ren the man on Hope's back before she jumped on. She grabbed Hope's shell and told her to to run toward the Police Headquarters. Ren looked back when she felt the man move. She saw hiim trying to get off of Hope's back. She turned herself around on Hope's back and knocked the man out. She turned back around, making Hope run faster. When they arrived at headquarters Ren jumped off of Hope's back and guided her into the building. They got in the lobby and Ren grabbed the man, and threw him on the ground at the desk. Ming looked at the traid member then Ren. Ren raised her arms a bit as she waited for Ming to pick the traid member up. Ming continued to stand there so Ren grabbed the cable, and pulled the traid member to Lin. Lin looked at Ren before she grabbed the traid member. Ren sighed as she walked out the door. Two days was all that was left until the wedding.
Two days later
It had been two days since the traids had attacked Ren. Even on her wedding day she was worried about where they came from. Asami was doing Ren's hair which gave her more time to think. Ren winched when Asami pulled her hair back tighter than usual. Asami started to shove pins in before she shoved a headpiece in her hair. Ren was still trying to concentrate when she felt a brush on her face. She accidently slapped Asami. She was so deep in thought that she didn't notice someone was trying to put make-up on her. She looked around the room to see everyone staring at her. She sighed as she pinched her nose. She looked at Asami so she could what she started. Ren tried to think about today, but she continued to think about the other day. After Asami was done with her make-up Pema helped Ren over to her dress. Jinora, and Pema both helped Ren into her dress. Ren lifted her dress a bit to wrap a metal cable around her leg lightly. Ren thought she should always hide them, and take them with her. Lin shook her head as Ren lowered her dress.
There was a knock on the door. Ren went to open it, but Kai walked in. His eyes widened as he looked at Ren. Ren looked at him with a smile on her face. She started to forget about the events from the other day. Ren looked out the window at the spirit portal. Hope licked Ren's arm, as Ren laughed. The group made their way for the docks. They soon got on the ferry, and made their way for Republic City. Ren stared at Yue Bay while they made their way to the city. Ren took a deep breath as they started to walk for the spirit portal. When they arrived at the spirit portal everyone walked in, but Kai and Ren. Ren looked around at all the spirits, but had an uneasy feeling. She brushed it off when they walked through the portal. She gasped when she saw Sky. She saw his black tux, and blue tie. She walked up next to him, and he grabbed her hand. Iroh looked at the two, smiling
"Hello everyone. We are happy to have you here in the Spirit World. We are here to celebrate the joining of the young Avatar Ren and Assistant Chief Sky Beifong. I have heard many stories of how the two have saved the world. I also have heard, many stories of the two saving each other countless times. Now I only have one question for the both of you. Sky do you..." Iroh said before he got interrupted by a large boulder coming toward Sky, Ren, and Iroh.
The three got knocked to the ground, but quickly picked themselves back up. Ren pulled the metal out from under her dress, and got into her fighting stance. She saw the triads running toward her, and Sky. People tried to stand up to help them, but Ren motioned for them to sit down. Ren knew that this was her fight. She was going to do it with only one other person, and that was Sky. Ren started to run down the aisle after the traid members. She kicked the ground which made a large boulder come out of the ground. She kicked it, and sent an air blast for extra power. it knocked two triad members fell down. A waterbender sent a water whip at Sky, but he bent it around his body and froze the water. He snapped the ice spear, and bent it at a traid member. An earthbender knocked Ren down with a large boulder. She was then grabbed with a water whip, and the waterbender threw her into Sky. A firebender shot a flame at them, but Ren shot a flame at the incoming flame. The two flames collided, causing a small explosion. Ren, and Sky were knocked back. The two looked at each other to see the other covered in dirt, sweat, and scrapes. They both jumped in time to miss the traids next attack. Ren slammed her foot down, and started to move her hands apart. The ground started to split, and traids members started to fall in. Sky froze little icicles, and pointed them at traid member.
An earthbender threw large rocks at Ren and Sky. Ren jumped behind Sky and he used his water bending to slice the rocks in half. Sky bent down, and Ren rolled over his back to send an air blast. The traid members started to flee as quickly as they could. Ren looked at Sky before she slid down a bit. The two started to laugh as they used their waterbending to clean themselves up. When they were done they walked up to Iroh. He nodded at the two before he continued.
"Sky, do you wish to spend the rest of your life with Ren? To love her forever, and do what married couples do?" Iroh asked chuckling.
"Yes," Sky said laughing.
Ren nodded before Iroh could even ask her the question. She laughed thinking about why he asked the question the way he did. Ren asked Kuvira and Bataar Jr the same question eight years ago. She couldn't help but think it was their idea. Iroh looked at Sky with a smile before he grabbed his hand, and nodded at him. Iroh motioned his head toward Ren. She smiled at Sky before he kissed her. Ren heard Ty say how gross the kiss was. Ren felt the air move around her feet. She waited until it faded to pull away. The two walked down the aisle, and waited for everyone to get up. Ren, and Sky greeted the guest before they all sat down. Ren picked at her meal while everyone ate. Ren, and Sky got up again to talk to guest. The first table they went to had Korra, Iroh II, their children, Iroh, Korra's parents, Honora, Izumi, Mai, and Zuko. Everyone was talking while Aki glared at Ren. Ren looked at Aki for a minute then tried to continue her conversation. Sesi could sense the tension between the two.
"What a good fight and pretty dress Ren," Aki mumbled sarcastically.
Ren shot a look at Aki. Aki acted like she did nothing, but Ren knew what she heard. Ren punched Aki in the face, knocking both Aki and the chair on the ground. Everyone turned to look at the two. Aki touched her face, feeling the blood coming from both her nose and lip. She looked at Ren for a minute before she stood up. Aki Swung at Ren, but Ren jumped back in time. Aki used her firebending to throw a fire ball at Ren. Ren made the ball disapper with her firebending. Ren arced her one arm while making the other one straight. She sent an air blast at Aki that sent her back a few feet and knocked her down. Aki jumped up, making flame whips. Ren pulled her metal out, making whips herself. Aki sent her whips at Ren, but Ren moved her left foot pulling water out of a small fountain they had brought. She sent the water at Aki's whips so they would vanish, and Ren grabbed Aki. Ren threw Aki in the air before she threw two large rocks at her. Aki jumped on both before she jumped to the ground. She ran away from the reception area, and Ren followed her. Everyone followed the two. Aki started to bend lightning, and Ren did the same. They shot their bolts at the same time causing them to collide. When the smoke cleared from the explosion everyone saw Ren on the ground a few feet from where she was before. Aki was on the ground further back than she started.
The two girls got up to fight but were grabbed. Zuko, and Iroh II grabbed Aki. Aang, and Kai grabbed Ren. The two girls struggled to get away from the men. The four men looked at each other before they looked at the two girls. Kai heard Ren breathing heavily as she still continued to get away.
"You're lucky my great Grandpa Aang and dad are here to save you!" Ren yelled.
"You're lucky my great Grandpa Zuko and dad saved you!" Aki shouted.
Air started to circle Ren's left hand. Fire circled her right. Earth circled her left foot. Water circled her right foot. Ren easily pulled away from Kai and Aang. Ren stuck her left foot up, knocking Aki out of Iroh II, and Zuko's arms with the earth. Ren then kicked her right foot, hitting Aki with water. She hit Aki with air, then stood there. Ren went to throw the flame, but Aki made it vanish. Aki jumped to her feet with flames coming from her feet. Aki made two flame whips. Ren looked at her for a moment before she did a flip and stuck her feet out with flames coming out the bottom. Aki dodged the flame before she sent the whip at Ren. She managed to wrap the whip around Ren. Ren clenched her teeth while Aki smirked. The earth lifted making a small hill at Ren's feet. The hill started to roll out toward everyone, knocking them all on the ground. Ren felt the whip let go. She felt her waist burn. She started to throw rocks at Aki, knocking her back multiple times. When Ren knew Aki wasn't going to get back up she fell on her knees. Ren fell on her side and started to grind her teeth. Katara, Kya, and Sky ran over to her.
Ren dug her fingers deep into the earth as she screamed through her clenched teeth. Kya went to help Ren, but she pushed her away. Katara could tell if they didn't tend to the wounds soon they were only going to get worse. She motioned for the Beifong sisters to come help them. Katara told them the plan, hoping it would help. The sisters both informed Katara they didn't bring their cables. Bolin smiled his goofy smile at Katara as he walked over to her. Tonraq walked over to her with a warm smile.
"Katara, you look like you could use some help. Bolin, and I will gladly help," Tonraq said.
Katara smiled, and nodded. She told them the plan as Ren laid there. When they were ready Bolin nodded at Tonraq before they grabbed her arms. Katara placed water on Ren's waist to heal her. Ren screamed, and tried to get away from the two men. Ren clenched her teeth again, and started to breath heavily. Ren kicked, but Sky grabbed her foot before it hit Katara. Katara knew Ren didn't mean any of it, and that she was only in pain. When Katara was done she nodded at the men as she pulled the water away. Ren hugged Katara while still breathing heavily. She felt a tear run down her cheek. Ren saw Aki behind Katara still laying on the ground. She pulled away from Katara, and made her metal cables into a sword. She kicked Aki onto her back then pointed it at her. Aki looked at her for a moment before Ren began to talk.
"Get up! I said get up! You are no longer welcome here. In fact, you are no longer welcome on the island. You have done enough since everyone found out I was the avatar. You need to learn to accept that you are not the center of attention Aki," Ren said.
Aki looked at her for a moment before she got up. Ren bent the metal around her upper leg as Aki walked away. Everyone looked at Ren, seeing the seriousness in her face. Aki pushed her parents out of the way to leave. Jinora, and Kai both gave Ren a look but she ignored it. Ren watched as Aki walked towards the portal. Aki turned around for a moment, sending a fire ball at Ren. Ren stuck an earth barrier up just in time. Ren looked at her as the rubble crumbled to the ground. Aang, and Zuko looked at each other before looking at the two women. Aki, and Ren reminded them of themselves before Zuko changed his ways. Everyone could see that Ren was growing angry with Aki. Ren kicked the ground, sending Aki in the air before she kicked a gust of air at her. Aki was knocked through the portal, and Ren looked around. She could see disappointment in some of her guests faces while others showed concern. Ren turned away for a moment she started to walk away with tears in her eyes. She felt a hand on her shoulder, but she brushed it off thinking it was Sky. She felt the hand on her shoulder again. She looked at her shoulder to see the airbender tattoos. Ren turned around to find Aang, and Zuko in front of her. She hugged Aang with the tears running down her cheek.
Aang tried to soothe Ren, but she still continued to cry. Zuko crouched down, and wiped the tears out of Ren's eyes. Aang helped Ren to the ground as he still comforted her. Katara looked at him, remembering when he did that with their own children. Ren didn't understand what she was doing wrong. She never got along with Aki after they discovered she was the avatar. Ren wondered if Aki hated her because she replaced her mother as the avatar. Ren looked at Korra, and could see the look on her face. Ren let go of Aang, and walked over to Korra with a tear stained face. Everyone looked at Ren as stood in from of Korra. Korra waited for Ren to say something.
"Why? Why me? Why did Raava pick me? Why didn't she pick someone right after you died like she did with every other avatar? Why is Aki being like this? Is it because I got your spirit, and became the avatar?" Ren asked.
Korra looked at Ren. She noticed at such a young age Ren had so many scars. Korra didn't really know how to answer Ren's question. She had no clue why Raava didn't pick an avatar right away. Ren was the avatar the world needed, but how did Raava know Ren would even exist. Korra snapped out of her thoughts, and nodded at Iroh. Iroh smiled at the water tribe woman knowing Korra had been upset many times with Raava or even family. Everyone noticed Ren was staring blankly into space. Ren was connecting with Roku.
Ren saw Roku on his way to the volcano. She saw as he started to earthbend trenches. The lava quickly filled the trenches. He used his airbending to try and make the lava stop. He went into the avatar state, knocking part of the volcano out. He soon became overwhelmed with all the lava around him. Sozin eventually showed up. Ren saw Roku reach out for Sozin, but Ren saw Sozin leave Roku to die. She watched her past life suffer as he died. Ren turned her head to see Roku. He looked at the scene, then Ren. He touched her shoulder, turning her quickly. Ren saw Roku's friendship with Sozin until the moment when Sozin left Roku on the volcano.
Ren still continued to stare forward. Aang touched her shoulder, snapping her out of her trance. She looked at him, then Korra. She didn't want to believe it. Why would someone betray them? Why would they betray her? She couldn't even say it she was in shock at first. Roku got straight to the point with his flashback. Ren always found Roku to be serious compared to Korra or her great grandfather. Ren looked at the Beifong sisters, her grandfather, Izumi, Honora, her Uncle Bumi, and Aunt Kya. She could tell their time of helping the avatar will soon be coming to an end. She looked at her parents with half a smile. Ren knew the world needed her again. She took a deep breath, and looked at everyone. They all looked at her with a concerned look on their face. Ren really looked at the world leaders before she spoke.
"We are all in danger again," Ren said.
