WAIT IM NOT DONE
THIS TOOK ME SO LONG TO UPDATE, WE'RE GETTING A SEASON 3 OF YOUNG JUSTICE AND I MISSED THE FANDOM
The next day, a doctor was watching over Wally. He turned around to grab a clipboard and Wally sped himself up. He'd practiced before, just for this. The needles were gone in half a second. The catheter made him wince but it was done in another half a second.
He got up and practically jumped to the mirror, smashing it with his fist hard enough to make the pieces fly. He bent down and grabbed the biggest sharp piece he could find, and was aiming it for his heart when a hand moved in slow motion to stop him. A voice cried out with the same speed of the hand.
The glass was so close when the hand pushed it away, it ripped the fabric of his hospital gown and left a thin line of blood on his chest. The glass fell away from his hand. It hit the floor and time slowed down to normal speed again.
Wally glared at the broken glass in anger and turned to face the person who hit it away, but instantly quailed away when he saw how angry the red-headed boy-man was.
Just then, the raven-haired boy ran in looking scared. "Roy! Stop, you're scaring him!"
The man-boy turned on the boy. "Me? Scare him? He just stopped my fucking heart, Rob! I almost didn't get that away from him! Don't you dare tell me about who's scared here!"
The boy flinched at the curse word. Before Wally knew what he was doing, he sped in front of the boy, standing his ground against the red-head. He was shaking all over, but if it meant he would keep the boy from being hurt...
He stared at the man defiantly, his fists clenched to his sides.
The man took a step back in shock, his eyes wide.
The doctor took that as an opportunity to run for the door. Probably for help. Wally didn't move from his spot.
The boy laid a careful hand on Wally's shoulder behind him. He snorted in that direction and the boy took his hand away. Wally's eyes never left the man's.
The man kicked some of the broken glass away and sat on the ground cross-legged. "Wally, I'm not gonna hurt him, okay? I'm not gonna hurt you either. You just scared me is all. I shouldn't have reacted that way, but I would never hurt either one of you."
Wally's gaze softened. He opened his mouth to speak, but just then, a needle pricked his arm. Wally whirled around with a face of betrayal. His eyes clouded before they could focus on anything, and he was out like a light.
Wally's body sagged against Barry's. Robin wheeled angrily on the doctor.
"Why would you- We could have just gotten him to lie back on the bed, he was calming down for once!"
The doctor didn't look his way, he just helped Flash with inserting the needles back into where they needed to go.
Then he looked at Robin. "His health is my first priority. And after a stunt like that, his body was burning up whatever nutrients he had, which isn't a lot at the moment. Without this I.V., he could very well die from starvation. The morphine was beginning to wear off as well, which would have ended painfully for him."
The doctor went back to checking the vitals as Flash sat down next to his nephew. Robin practically stormed out the door and Roy went with him.
Barry sat down next to his nephew. He'd had to tell Wally's parents that he'd been found; not that they cared. It had been so long ago since taking him in as his own.
He remembered telling Iris on the day they'd found Wally. She demanded to come down, but Bats was very clear. No other person was allowed in the Watchtower. But that hadn't stopped Roy...
Maybe he could sneak her in when everyone was having lunch. No one would complain after seeing who it was, and if they went straight there-
Barry pulled himself out of his thoughts when Wally stirred. He was having another nightmare; Barry could tell by the way he scrunched up his nose. Some things never changed.
He gently nudged Wally, trying to wake him up. He nudged him again. Wally woke up fast. He shot up and pushed himself into the back of the wall so hard Barry thought something would break. Out of instinct, he reached for Wally.
Big mistake. Wally screamed. It wasn't like when he was younger and would scream at a spider. No, this was a full on, bloody murder, scream.
Barry flinched back so hard he flipped over the back of his chair, making a loud crashing sound. Robin and Roy immediately ran in, looking for the source of the problem. All they saw was a terrified Wally and a graceless Barry.
Robin ran over and tried comforting Wally while Roy helped Barry up.
"Wally, it's okay, no one here is trying to hurt you, just quiet down, okay? There's no need to scream, we're here for you..." Robin said quietly.
Wally's screams turned into sobs. He laid his head on Robin's shoulder and cried.
Those quieted to small sniffles and Wally spoke.
"I'm sorry."
Barry wiped his own tears. "Wally, no, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to scare you. I had no idea how you would react and I'm so sorry for that. Just know that I would never hurt you, no one here would."
Wally moved his face so he could see Barry. His hair needs to be cut, he thought absently.
"S'okay."
And with that, Wally smiled at his uncle. It wasn't a big smile, but it wasn't weak either.
Barry moved closer. Wally tensed for a moment, but relaxed on his own.
"Do you want something to eat? I know it's not the best to offer, but pudding is still something, right?"
Wally missed a beat or two. He wanted to, but eating wasn't something he was allowed to do. And when he was allowed, he had to be careful. Most of it wasn't good, and made him throw up or hallucinate.
So while Wally wanted to say yes, he knew the answer was no. At least then he had a small chance of it not being forced on him.
He shook his head and curled in on himself as far as the needles in his arms would let him.
Barry nodded sullenly. "Ok."
A sudden thought came into his head. "Hey! I have an idea! How about we get a haircut!"
Wally jumped at the outburst but slowly nodded. "Ok."
Barry lit up. "Really?"
Wally nodded again. "It has gotten long, hasn't it...? It's been a while... At least I think it has."
Robin moved so he could see Wally's face. "You don't remember?"
Wally shook his head slightly. "I don't think so. The last thing I remember is being in that room. And it felt like it was the only thing I've known."
There were tears in everyone's eyes. Wally looked around, shocked. "I'm sorry," He whispered. "I didn't mean for that to-"
He was cut off by Barry, who sped into a gentle hug. Wally flinched and tensed, but didn't move. "It's okay, kiddo. It's not you fault. It's not."
Wally only nodded, a blank look on his face.
A male doctor entered the room just that moment, but stopped when he saw the scene.
Barry was hugging Wally, who didn't seemed too thrilled about being touched. Robin was in the corner by the bed, as usual, and Red Arrow was sitting on an upside-down chair, which couldn't be comfortable.
He cleared his throat, grabbing everyone's attention.
"I'm not going to ask, I'm just here to check on his vitals."
Seeing everything was in check, he turned to leave, but Barry put a hand on his shoulder.
"Look," He started. "Wally wants to get a haircut. And I know he's stable and that that could change, but he needs out of this room sometime. Why not now? We'll just go down the hall to Wonder Woman or someone, and be right back. No superpower-using, I promise."
The doctor sighed and glanced at all the puppy dog eyes in the room. "Fine. But be back before an hour. And bring that bag of morphine with you. Just take the brakes off the wheels and it should roll freely."
He was answered with a chorus of 'Yes!' as he left the room.
Roy and Barry helped Wally off the bed while Robin got the I.V. pole in motion.
Wally took a few shaky steps. The two boys on either side came to his aid, holding him up gently.
Wally smiled a small smile. Finally, out of that room! It was all he had seen since being out of that place. Not that he minded. It was better than before.
They made their way down the long hall in the medical wing. Just like the surrounding rooms, it was mostly white with a few chairs here and there. They turned left and stayed straight. Wally walked along as best he could, while being held up as Barry trailed behind with the I.V.. Every once in a while they would pass a person or two and Wally would avert his eyes to the floor.
But then, they passed a window.
"We're in space?" Wally asked quietly.
"Yeah, buddy. We're in the Watchtower." Robin replied.
"Can I..."
"Yeah. Come on. The veiw is great." Roy smiled.
Barry sighed happily once they reached the large window. "Never ceases to amaze, huh?"
They all nodded.
"I've been here before."
Everyone's heads swiveled to Wally, who remained focused on the window.
"What?" Robin nearly whispered.
"It was..." Wally's brow furrowed, but his eyes remained blank. "A long time ago. That's all I can..." He trailed off and shook his head slightly.
Their eyes widened.
"You remember that?" Roy asked.
Wally looked at Roy's face for a split second before his eyes met the ground at his feet.
Barry and Robin exchanged glances.
"I don't... Can we go?" Wally shifted his weight. He wasn't supposed to talk back. He knew it would mean bad things. But he was tired of waiting for it to come.
"Yeah. Yeah, sure buddy." And they turned to continue walking down the hall.
