Albus Potter's POV.
Letters to My Brown Eyed Beauty
Chapter Nineteen
"Cleo will be moving to Italy when we graduate."
The sound of James Sirius Potter's heart shattering was loud enough for both boys to hear. It was painful, and it was real. He was in love with someone who was moving away. He had always expected that they'd get married and have kids – if she chose to be with him, and technically, it seemed as if she was ready accept their fate but had told James that somethings were more important than them. Her family would always come first to Cleo Bay and James knew that and he understood that too. He just wished things could've been different, but they aren't. He had to accept the reality that faced him and so did his younger brother.
Albus knew that if Cleo went to Italy, James would never be the same. In a year's time, his eyes would be hollow and missing the spark only Cleo could put in his eyes. He'd wear a lot of fake smiles and pretend to care about what was going on but really, he couldn't. He really couldn't pretend to care when the love of his life was worlds away.
Albus closed his eyes, attempting to forget the thought of what could happen. He had to think about now and what they could do to prevent such a future from occurring. If his brother loved this girl then so did Albus. She was family. If she left, she'd take pieces of James with her, and Albus wouldn't let that happen.
With a sigh, Albus turned to his brother who was glaring at the ground with such intensity. "James," he started, quietly, who looked up in return. "It will be okay, you have six months to convince her to stay. With you."
James shook his head, "She won't," he said, sounding defeated already.
"Why?"
"Her entire family is moving; change of scenery and all that stuff. Family means the world to her which is what I adore the most about her."
To James, it felt like she'd left already.
"James, I want you to prove to her for the next six months, that you're worth staying for."
It was November the 26th today and Albus knew that his entire world was falling down around him. This year had been a turning point in all of their lives. It was deciding everything for them. James was about to graduate and the girl he loved was moving away. James had distanced himself from everybody, terrified of the fact that he didn't think he was enough for Cleo to stay for. Albus felt his pain.
Roxanne, Molly and Rose' friendship wasn't as solid as before, but they were all on okay turns again. Albus knew they'd never be as close as they were before. Things had changed, and it was evident to everybody. Nobody poked around in their business, letting things play out the way they would.
Scorpius had been avoiding Albus as well, and Albus knew something was wrong. He didn't want to lose his best friend over anything. He was worth moving a mountain for and Albus knew that with certainty. Albus knew he was keeping more secrets from him and he wasn't impressed.
The library was silent, as usual, when Albus walked in. Everybody set their eyes upon him, but he was looking for a certain redhead and when he found her, he walked towards her, ignoring the eyes on them.
That Potions class had been Albus' head for a while. He was beginning to lose it. He needed Rose Weasley help, despite their difference of opinions, he knew she'd always be there for him. Especially if he needed her which he currently does.
Rose looked up when she heard footsteps, the smile fell off her face when she realised it was her cousin, "Oh."
"Expecting someone else," he teased, and her already pink cheeks grew redder. "No," Rose said, blushing profusely. "Well as fun as teasing you about your latest crush may be, I need your help."
Rose looked at him, "That's more James' job," she said, regarding him warily. "If you've managed to succeed in Potions, for once in your life, and made the Polyjuice potion just to pretend to be Albus, I will kill you," she hissed.
Albus feigned hurt, "It's me," he said, laughing a little, "Seriously, I'm Albus."
"So, let me get this straight, the one person in this whole family who has it 'all together' suddenly doesn't and needs help?"
Albus raised an eyebrow at her, shaking his head. "I don't want to know," he dismissed, pulling up a chair to take a seat. "I don't know how to word this," he began, "What do you do if you smell something entirely different to your girlfriend in Amortentia?"
Albus' face flushed a deep crimson-red, to rival his cousin's hair.
"Well then, Al, you do have a problem."
"I'm aware," he commented, drily, rolling his eyes as Rose bit her bottom lip. "Then, I guess you have to break up with Carlsson."
He blinked owlishly at his redheaded cousin, "No way, I actually like this girl."
"Clearly you don't," she stated, pointing out a fact he already knew.
"You should break up with her and then tell the other girl how you really feel for her."
"I can't," Albus said, shrugging. "I'll humour you," Rose said, pinching the bridge of her nose, before saying, "Why?"
"Because I have no idea who she is," Albus sighed.
"Well you'll find her eventually, but she won't come quicker if you've still got Carlsson on your arm," Rose commented casually. Albus knew that, he did. He was just scared. Vivian was his first girlfriend, after all. He didn't want to end it over nothing.
Albus nodded to his cousin, realising she was right after all. He gave her a half-hearted smile as he stood up.
"Come eat lunch with us on the Gryffindor table today and I'll help you find her."
Albus thanked her, agreeing, before parting ways from the redhead.
Scorpius Malfoy's POV.
Scorpius watched as Albus left the library. He was about to meet Rose in the library when Albus appeared. He looked troubled. Scorpius couldn't believe he was still worried about that potions lesson. He had no idea who he smelled, it seemed. This confused the blonde boy immensely.
He walked up from behind Rose, putting his lips to her ear level. She shuddered at his breath, knowing exactly who it was.
"You couldn't blush more obviously," he whispered huskily into her ear. Scorpius smirked at the effect her had on her body. He moved her red hair away from her shoulders, gently, as he began kissing the back of her neck, "Missed me," he chuckled causing the girl to nod.
Scorpius backed away, making Rose pout. He chuckled, once more, as he pulled Albus' now vacant chair over so he could sit down. "So, I got an idea when Albus was talking to you," he started before Rose cut him off, "If you wish to help that'd be great because I have no idea what he smelt. He didn't even tell me."
"He smelt the smell of rose petals," he supplied her question with an answer. She looked quizzical. "I don't know anyone who smells like roses either unless it was you?"
"Did you just imply that my cousin has a crush on me?"
"No," Scorpius said, chuckling. "Either way," Rose started, "I invited him to sit with me on the Gryffindor table for lunch."
"Traitor!"
Rose shrugged, "he's family."
"Where's my invitation," Scorpius pouted, and she smirked at him. "You just said it was traitorous to sit at our table."
"For Albus but not me."
Scorpius took a look around, noting that nobody was listening nor watching, before claiming her lips as his.
They were, after all.
They'd been secretly dating for a while.
Scorpius then stood up, "I have to see Albus now, bye Rose," he said, kissing her cheek before leaving.
Rose looked disappointed but not as much as Scorpius.
Scorpius snuck a look back at Rose before leaving. He hoped it was reassuring in a way and not a love-struck look. He was a Malfoy, after all.
A Malfoy secretly dating a Weasley, whom he loved dearly.
Albus was in the common room, beginning to walk to the dormitories as Scorpius noticed him. He followed him, soon falling into step with him. He was hoping the look of his either affairs weren't planted straight on his face, like red marker: I kissed Rose Weasley and I liked it.
He shook his head, as he walked down the hallway with Albus. He'd walked these hallways for six years and it never ceased to amaze him of the beauty of it.
They walked into the archway that had a silver plate saying: Sixth Year.
Albus looked up as he heard Scorpius, "Hey, what are you doing?"
They walked down another corridor before finding the door that held their names on it. Scorpius noted them with a sense of fondness. These were his friends and he loved them, even if he didn't show it often.
Scorpius took refuge on his bed. "Nothing much," he replied to his best mate's earlier question. He then noticed Albus was holding something. "What's that, Al?" He asked, the boy only smiled mischievously before shrugging.
"From your parents again?"
Albus shook his head, his cheeks tinted pink.
Scorpius ignored it before rolling over, pulling out a piece of parchment to begin his homework.
"No, it's a letter from," Albus trailed off which gained Scorpius' interest once more. "Teddy," Albus finally answered and Scorpius nodded, nothing new there. Albus' face was contorted in confusion. "Teddy Lupin?"
"Yeah. Come look at this!"
Scorpius got off his bed and perched beside his best mate, on his bed instead. He stared at the letter in Albus' hand, not quite sure if he was really seeing his name after all.
'To Albus and Scorpius,
I know you're asking yourself right now, why Teddy Lupin himself, would write to you Scorpius. Am I right? I suppose I always am. You can check with Albus if you're not sure.'
Scorpius glanced at Albus just as he looked up at him, nodding. 'Guess Lupin was always right,' Scorpius thought to himself.
'Oh, that sounded a little arrogant. I take it back, I swear I'm nothing like my god brother, James.
Anyway, Scorpius, I do apologise for never writing to you. I know of you, but I hope that I can one day know you personally. I know it's silly of me to write after all this time and hope we could become close. We aren't, obviously, but getting to know each other may just be the first step in the right direction. Victoire, my fiancée – oh I love that, soon she'll be my wife – says it's all wishful thinking.
I always felt like something was missing and I couldn't put my finger on it but when Harry spoke of you, Scorpius, I knew exactly what it was. You. I was missing you. As you read up there, I am indeed getting married to Albus' cousin, Victoire Weasley (who will be Lupin very soon!) and I was wondering if you and Albus would like to attend the wedding.
It will be at The Burrow, December 5th at 4pm. I really hope you two can make it. I'm sorry for the late notice, I was terrified of writing to you, if I must admit. You're my cousin, Scorpius, it's only fair to invite you. You're welcome to bring your entire family – including your grandmother, my Gran talks nonstop about her, she'd love that. I hope my little family doesn't scare you off. Please consider the idea.
Hope to hear from you both soon.
Sincerely,
Teddy Lupin
PS. Don't forget the chocolate, Albus! Victoire won't let me have any as she says I'm on a diet as the wedding is only in nine days and I have to fit into my tux! We have magic, I can just alter it!'
It was obvious to Scorpius that Teddy Lupin loved his chocolate and that he was the only cousin Scorpius had that wasn't old enough to call 'Aunt' or 'Uncle'. He was only seven years older than Scorpius. It vaguely alarmed Scorpius that Teddy was getting married at twenty three. Scorpius knew that it was normal for the wizarding world to marry so young, but he somehow wanted to defy that and marry a little older than usual He thought twenty five was a good age, maybe even a little older.
Albus was smirking which caught Scorpius' attention.
"Teddy is going on a diet, wait till I tell James," Albus said before bursting out laughing.
Scorpius shook his head at his best friend, fighting the smile trying to worm its way onto his lips.
"Oi, don't you guys ever close your door?"
Thorssen Nott was standing in the door way, leaning on the wall with his arms crossed. Scorpius and Albus promptly began laughing together. Thorssen shot them a look that clearly said: "You two are insane".
Trayton Zabini was standing beside Thorssen, shaking his head before turning to walk across the corridor to his own dormitory.
"You guys are a real right sight," Thorssen added before following his roommate back to their own dormitory.
"We're great," Scorpius and Albus said in sync before falling back on the bed, laughing to themselves.
'I guess we are a little barmy.'
