Albus' POV.

Letters to My Brown Eyed Beauty

Chapter Twenty-Three

"Albus!"

The boy in question looked up and noticed Scorpius was staring at him. Albus had been sitting on his bed, legs crossed, with the curtains wide open. He was reading a book, but the sudden appearance of his silent best friend startled him which caused the book to fall from his grasp and onto the ground with a thump.

"I'm sorry," Scorpius started, "For running away. I was just scared. I didn't want you to throw out entire friendship away. I know I've kept a lot of secrets from you and I'd probably deserve it if you were mad at me, but I just wouldn't be able to handle it," he finished with a frown.

"No," Albus said, shaking his head. "We've been through way too much to throw it all away now. I'm okay that you kept it a secret. I understand the severity of the situation, Scorp. Don't underestimate me," he said, smirking.

Scorpius chuckled nervously, "I don't see how you can because I didn't understand until I was thirteen."

"I'm not thirteen Scor, I'm sixteen."

Scorpius scowled, "Don't be sassy, Potter," he said before his face fell and he shrugged. He came to sit next to Albus, raking a hand through his platinum blonde hair. "So, forgive me?" He asked with hope in his silver eyes.

"I already said I did, you dolt."

"I just want to make sure."

"Just no more secrets, Malfoy," Albus teased, holding out a hand to him. Scorpius shook it, "No secrets, Potter."

Almost as soon as they hands retracted a frown appeared on both of their faces.

Albus was still hiding his biggest secret of all; Lyra.

"I have something to tell you," they both blurted out at the same time. They started at each other for a while before Albus sliced the silence in half.

"You go," he nervously said, fiddling with the ends of his shirt. Scorpius swallowed before turning a shade of red. Scorpius hardly ever blushed. It must've been serious.

"I really like Rose," he said, quietly, fear evident in his eyes. Albus was unsure how to react for a moment. Whatever he was expecting, it definitely wasn't that. His eyebrows shot up and he tried to understand what was going on. "Okay, there's more, isn't there?" He asked, again, after a moment.

Scorpius nodded shamefully, "Well, we kissed."

It felt like something in Albus' life was shattering once more. His entire world was tumbling down yet again.

He remembers the anger Fred felt when Markus Leads had admitted to liking Roxanne. He also remembers the weirdness James had felt when Wood had told everything he was falling for Molly.

Albus felt like he too was angry and confused and feeling weird.

"A couple of times," Scorpius said, licking his lips, "I wanted to tell you, but Rose insisted you'd kill us both and I already had so many secrets and I don't want to lose you," he rushed out in one breath of air as if the air in the room was constricting.

Albus felt like he couldn't breathe too.

It was an awkward silence before Albus whispered the two words he was terrified of getting an answer for.

"How long?"

"What," asked Scorpius. "How long have you two...liked each other?"

"I think a while," the blonde boy supplied, "But it wasn't until the Halloween Ball did anything happen. On impulse, I kissed her, and it felt right, and I didn't want to stop. I wanted to tell you that night but you were busy and then so many things happened… and then we kissed again, and Rose convinced me not to tell you. You were busy with your own stuff and it would've felt like a slap in your face. I'm sorry." A frown appeared on his lips as he tried to explain himself to the one person who usually never asked so many questions.

Albus almost felt bad.

Almost.

"You were also worried about that Potions class and the Amortentia and I didn't want to add to your stress," Scorpius added, scratching the back of his neck. It was a nervous habit for him and Albus had gotten used to it a long time ago.

For a moment Albus' vision was clouded as he remembered what he smelled in the Amortentia and what he smelled today.

He was in an awful lot of trouble.

"Albus? Are you okay? Why aren't you answering me?"

"It's her," Albus whispered with shock and horror. Scorpius stared with a look of confusion. Albus spoke a little louder, with more confidence, "It's always been her." His mind remembered when they were sitting together on the armchair earlier today. He'd been upset about Scorpius but then Amelia had interrupted looking for Scorpius. They'd gotten into an argument and Albus had felt awful but even he didn't understand what was going on at the time.

He'd unconsciously breathed in her scent during their altercation.

She smelt oddly of something Albus knew all too well.

"Rose petals," he breathed out as his smile grew.

"I'm aware of what you smelt but what's going on? You don't seriously think it's Carlsson do you?"

Albus snorted, "No, definitely not. I know who it is now."

"Who?" Scorpius asked as his excitement grew. They'd been stuck on that for quite a while. Albus grimaced as he realised the predicament they were in.

She's Scorpius' sister which is a whole lot worse than 'girlfriend'. Albus had no idea what he'd rather in this moment. Either way Scorpius was going to get extremely angry in a very short period of time.

He'd gone and pulled a Harry Potter.

He'd fallen for his best friend's sister.

Half-sister but still Scorpius' sister.

"Keep explaining the Rose situation," Albus said, quickly, not wanting to face the consequences.

Scorpius shoots him a weird look before continuing, "I was beginning to get very worried about you and I was getting really distracted by Rose…I may have asked her to be my date to Lupin's wedding. Please don't panic, Al."

Albus' eyebrows widened, 'All it took was a kiss from my annoying cousin to make him want to go to the wedding.'

Scorpius hurriedly says, "If you want...I'll take it back."

"Hell will you take it back!"

Scorpius looked taken aback by Albus' outburst. "Okay good because I didn't really want to. But you look uncomfortable about it," he commented, looking a little worried. Albus fixed him with a look, "I'll learn to deal with it. On one condition," he added with a smirk.

"Anything," Scorpius said. Albus nodded, "Remember your words, Malfoy," he said. Scorpius fixed him with an agitated look.

"Can I take Amy as my date to Teddy's wedding?"

Scorpius went instantly rigid. He was silent and Albus wasn't sure he was even breathing. He'd gone paler than usual and it was starting to scare Albus.

"Scorpius?"

Albus knew he'd hit a nerve and he flinched a little, terrified of what Scorpius would say.

"Amy," he asked, slowly. Albus was too scared to say anything so he nodded mutely. Scorpius' eyes narrowed and Albus squeaked out a reply, "Please? I promise the same thing goes for Rose. Not that, I'd kiss your sister on the first date or anything."

Scorpius' head snapped back to Albus instantly. There was a look in his eyes that chilled Albus to the core.

"Promise me," Scorpius started, "You aren't doing this because you don't have a date yet." He sighed, looking a little defeated. Albus nodded, "I like her, I think I have for a while, but I thought she had been your girlfriend and was off limits," he said. "She is off limits," Scorpius interjected quickly with an annoyed look.

"Then Rose is off limits," Albus snapped back quickly and then Scorpius faltered. His protest died on his lips as a figure entered the doorway of their dormitory.

"Hey, what are you two doing? It's almost dinner, you two made up yet?"

Albus smirked, "Your brother just told me something. Do you want to hear it?"

Amy smirked in return, "I'd love to."

Scorpius' eyes widened, "You wouldn't dare, Potter!"

Albus shrugged and it was clear he meant business. Amy pulled a lock of her purple hair behind her ear as she came to sit on Albus' trunk. It lay forgotten in the middle of the ground. She looked up at Albus expectantly, "So?"

There was a moment of silence.

Scorpius looked between the two frantically; best friend and sister. It looked as if his neck would snap at any given moment. Amy' eyes only became more curious as the moments went by. A smile formed on her lips and Albus' heart fluttered.

The silence suddenly ended with Scorpius shouting, "Fine, not off limits!"

Albus shook his head, "Not what I meant, bud," he said. He bit his lip and looked up at Scorpius. He grumbled in response, "Amy, I like Rose," he confessed before closing his eyes. Amy's eyes stopped sparkling and her body went tense. She was closing off once more and she made an expression of indifference. She stood up, shrugged with a laugh. She was pretending to be cool, but she was anything but.

"Fascinating," she said, "You didn't have to tell me that. I already knew. Probably longer than you knew yourself. Longer than Albus knew too. Shame. I expected better from you, Potter."

Stab.

She winked at Albus before heading off.

"Am I that easy?"

Albus chuckled, "I wouldn't have known if you didn't tell me. Not for the life of me."

"Amy!"

With a whirl of purple hair, Amy whipped around. Her hair fell around her face in small, cute, ringlets. She beamed at Albus and he smiled back. His nerves were skyrocketing. He'd gotten permission to finally act on the way he was feeling. He was going to take it.

"Albus?"

"I wanted to ask you something."

Amy nodded, "Go ahead."

There was a moment of silence before Albus cut in finally.

He was feeling awkward, but he knew that he had to be brave for once and finally do something for himself. If Scorpius got to take the girl of his dreams to Teddy's wedding, then Albus should have the courage to at least ask his.

Albus knew despite his entire life tumbling down at the seams, he deserved to finally be happy. Amongst the rubble of his life, he found the courage to finally admit to himself that he was falling head over heels for the quirky purple-haired girl and he secretly hoped she would give him a chance.

He's no Harry Potter but he hoped he was enough.

Amy's admiration for his dad didn't cloud her judgement on him in any way. She was always real with him and that was hard to come by these days.

"Will you go to Teddy's wedding with me?"
