Percy POV

Apollo and I were called over to the house for a farewell lunch for those who were heading back to Camp Half-Blood. It was going to be the first time Annabeth and I had seen each other since the break-up. Half of me wanted to stay home so that I wouldn't have to face seeing her yet, but the other half of me wanted to say a proper good-bye to my friends.

I wasn't sure that I was ready to see the daughter of Athena. I hadn't forgotten my dad's warning. The goddess of wisdom had never supported me dating her daughter. I was positive that she would take our break-up as proof that she was right about me. I had a gut feeling that the goddess would be watching our interactions today to decide whether or not to curse me for hurting her daughter. Considering she was the goddess of battle tactics, I really didn't need or want that curse. I had already been cursed by Ares and I had barely survived. I didn't need to be as smart as Annabeth to know that if Athena cursed me, I wouldn't be quite as lucky. I hoped that she would simply consider the fact that she wasn't going to get me for an in law as a win.

When Apollo and I got to the house, nearly everyone was already in the living room. The only ones left to show up were Frank and Reyna. According to Hazel they were caught up in some Praetor duty or other but they would only be another 20 minutes or so.

It took about twenty-five seconds from the time we walked into the room before things became awkward and painful for both the daughter of Athena and me. Though I will admit, it was completely my fault.

Since nearly everyone was already there, the couches were full. There was only one spot left. In view of the fact that both Apollo and I are fully grown, we took the mature approach to deciding which of us got to sit on the couch and which got stuck with the floor...

"Dibs!"

"I don't think so Perce," Before I could even argue the point, he was halfway across the room. I tried going around the coffee table but I was slowed down by Jason's legs. By the time I got to the previously vacant seat, the god of the music was already making himself comfortable.

I pouted. "I had dibs."

The sun god just winked. "I'm older and everyone with siblings can tell you, age always outranks dibs."

I snorted at the sudden mental image of Apollo and Artemis arguing over who got to ride in the chariot with their dad. "If you don't accept my clearly superior claim to this seat, then there's only one solution..."

I plopped down on his lap and wrapped my arm around his shoulder like I would have with anyone. The god of the sun looked startled for a moment but then he just laughed and wound his arm around my waist.

"Well, well, Perce..."

My laugh got caught in my throat when I glanced back at the room and saw the look of pain in Annabeth's eyes. Suddenly, with the stark reminder of our break-up, the joke wasn't nearly as funny. I winced as pain shot through my chest and went to stand up. For a second, Apollo's arm tightened in confusion at the end of our joke but then he seemed to notice where I was looking.

His arm fell from around my waist and I could see the disappointment in his eyes. I understood, I enjoyed our banter as much as he did usually, but I couldn't flirt with someone, even just playfully, when my so recently ex was sitting across the room.

I sat on the floor next to the couch and cleared my throat to break the suddenly tense atmosphere. Piper seemed to catch on that I needed a change of topic because she started telling a story about the ridiculous pranks, or more specifically revenge, that the Aphrodite campers do to each other.

In my attempts to avoid looking at the daughter of Athena, my eyes caught on the son of Hades. His mouth had literally fallen open a bit and he was looking between Apollo and me like we'd grown an extra head. I was confused for a moment before I remembered that he hadn't spent as much time around us as most of our other friends. Everyone in the group had looked at us like that a couple times when we first started hanging out.

The god of the sun was naturally flirty; he did it with nearly everyone he spoke too. I had always been a tactile person, so I found myself joining in on his game. Our other friends were used to our behaviour around each other by now, but clearly the son of Hades was shocked.

When he looked back at me I mouthed the words 'it's a joke'. It was enough for him to snap out of his daze. He looked back at the god with doubt in his eyes. I don't know what he saw there but he didn't look convinced. I nodded to reassure that there were no feelings between us. The son of the underworld gave me a blank look for a moment before he nodded back. I didn't believe I had heard the last about it though. His nod didn't really look like an agreement, more like an acknowledgement.

In the end, it was the god of the sun who told everyone that Piper could have my room since I was moving in with him. With everything else going on, it hadn't even occurred to me that I should tell the group. I guess it was more than a little dumb of me considering they would have eventually asked when I started moving all my stuff out.

After the bomb that the sun god had dropped, there was the predictable explosion of questions. Though, most of those seemed to revolve around the question of rooming arrangement. After we explained that he cleared out his office, the only other question I was asked was if I was sure I wanted to move in with him and the only one he was asked was if he really wants someone so messy to be his house mate.

I gave Jason a glare for that one, but the sun god just laughed.

Annabeth was being strangely quiet on the subject. Once everything had calmed down a bit, I took the chance to follow the daughter of Athena into the kitchen to have a word in private.

"Hey."

She looked a little startled when she turned around. I guess she hadn't heard me follow. She cleared her throat, "Hey to you."

It was about then when I realized I didn't know how to broach the subject. "So, how are you?" I internally winced at how dumb that sounded.

Wisdoms daughter shrugged, "I'm alright. What about you? How are you holding up?"

I shook my head. "I'm okay. It's just..." I cast around for a word to describe what I was feeling.

"Weird?"

I looked at the daughter of Athena and winced. "Yes. Weird."

She nodded. "I know what you mean. I've reached out for your hand a couple of times already only to pull back."

"Ya, Will was telling me about this amazing cafe/bookstore and my first thought was "I should take Annabeth', before I remembered that..."

"Ya."

I looked away and sighed. It was ten times as painful as I would have expected to be talking about all of this with her. "So are you okay with it?"

I looked back towards my ex only to see her giving me a confused look. "You need to be a little more specific than that Percy."

I blushed, "Oh ya... sorry. I meant are you okay with me moving into Fred's spare room?"

She sighed. "I don't really know how to feel. On one hand, it's like we've lost so much of each other that I don't want to lose the one thing we still seemed to have in common."

I tried to make a joke. "It's not the only thing; we're two of the only three mortals who can say that we've held up the world..."

It was her turn to wince, "But you're not even mortal anymore. I'm the last. That was one of our problems." I felt like she had punched me in the gut but she looked immediately apologetic for saying it. "I'm sorry; I didn't mean it like that."

We broke off into silence for a few minutes. The quiet in the next room told me there was a very good chance everyone was listening to our conversation.

"I think it might be for the best."

I shook my head to clear my thoughts. "What?"

"That... that you're going to be staying with Fred. I... I don't know if I could do this every day. Forcing conversation like nothing's changed."

I sighed and rubbed the back of my neck. "I know what you mean."

She seemed to take a deep breath to steady herself. "For what it's worth though, I still love you." She walked away before I could even begin to formulate a response.

I wasn't sure if the pain in my chest was bigger or not than before she had said that.

The sudden change in noise level in the other room told me exactly where she had gone. I knew that the group was heading out soon but I wasn't quite ready to go back yet. After half a minute or so, Apollo came to find me. He leaned against the counter next to me.

"That sounded awkward."

I sighed and shook my head, "You have no idea..."

He chuckled, "I may be more knowledgeable about heartbreak than you give me credit for."

I didn't know how to respond to that so I simply dropped my head onto his shoulder.

It was right about then that Nico walked into the kitchen. Judging by the look that he was giving us, he wasn't exactly convinced about Apollo only being my friend.

Rather than saying anything though, he just gave us a look. "We're heading out if you guys wanted to say a final good-bye. I know Will wanted to say bye to you, Fred."

The god of the sun nodded. "Thank you Nico." He gave me one more pat on the shoulder before he left in search of his son.

I flashed the son of Hades a smile and stood up straight. "I guess I should say farewell too."

The son of the underworld fell into step beside me when I headed out to the front lawn with everyone else.

ΩΩΩ

To his credit, he let me say good-bye to the whole group before he finally asked the question that I could see had been burning in his eyes for hours.

"Are you sure that you're just friends with Fred?"

I laughed. "I'm 100% sure. He's my friend. That's all."

"It didn't look like the two of you were only friends."

I shook my head. I had already had this conversation with quite a few others. It didn't bother me to have it again with Nico. "I know. That's Fred though. He's naturally flirty with everyone. It's just who he is."

The son of Hades gave me a questioning look. "Why are you flirting back though?"

I had never really thought of that before. It took me a couple of seconds to think. I shrugged. "I don't know. I just kinda started flirting back one day. It's fun; we don't mean anything by it." I suddenly realized that we were the last ones standing on the front lawn. "Anyway, it seems the group is leaving without you."

He looked over his shoulder to see that the campers from the Greek camp already half-way down the street. The son of the underworld nodded and hitched his bag a little higher on his shoulders.

I flashed him one last smile. "I'll see you around Nico." I gave him a wave and started to head back to the house.

"Hey Percy?"

I turned back around, "Ya?"

It almost looked like he was debating over whether or not to say something. After a few moments, he finally decided to speak. "Just... know that if you need to talk to someone who can understand, you can come to me."

I tilted my head in confusion. "Talk about what?" He might have meant if I need to talk about anything, but it almost sounded like he was referring to something specific.

The son of the underworld shrugged again. "Maybe I'm wrong but if not, you know how to find me." Before I could ask for further clarification, he turned around and ran to catch up to the others.

Once they were out of sight, I scoffed and shook my head. "Well that was sufficiently vague."

Apollo POV

I really didn't envy the son of Poseidon. There were very few thing as awkward as moving all of your things out of a house while your recently ex girlfriend watched. I could honestly say that I had never had a situation quite like Percy's though. It wasn't exactly common for two gods to move in together.

I was helping him track down the few possessions that he had actually unpacked. I couldn't help but wonder about that. He had lived with me for only a few weeks, but the things he had brought were all over my apartment. He wasn't messy per say, but he was far from neat. It made me wonder what was the difference between houses.

He may not have had nearly as many bags as Aphrodite would have packed for a weekend trip, but it still would have taken us a half dozen trips to move everything if it wasn't for Jason, Frank, Hazel, Reyna, and Piper helping carry the already packed boxes to the apartment while Percy and I finished packing the rest. While we were moving Percy out, I could hear Calypso and Leo cleaning downstairs. Though from the sounds of it, Calypso was doing most of the cleaning and Leo was seeing what he could get into.

The daughter of Athena had locked herself in her office, though she frequently came out for a million little reasons. I had a feeling that she probably was having a hard time focusing on work while her ex was moving out.

Every time she did leave her office, she would come by the room. She was trying to smile, but the pain in her eyes was clear whenever she looked at the son of Poseidon. The same pain was reflected back in his eyes too. I wished I could help but even as the God of medicine, there were certain kinds of pain I couldn't heal. However when ever Annabeth looked at me, her gaze wasn't nearly as light.

For some reason, in the last week of so, I had noticed the daughter of Athena giving me darker looks. It had been happening ever since the day she had come to the training arena to steal Percy for lunch.

I'm fairly certain all three of us were glad when we finally finished packing. The daughter of Athena came to say good-bye to the two of us and we left. We started on the couple blocks walk between the house and our apartment. I found myself wanting to break the silence.

I turned to smile at the son of Poseidon, "So... monopoly tonight?"

The youngest god looked surprised, but happy about the invitation. "Sure, that sounds fun."

I smiled and nodded. I couldn't help but feel like we were at the start of something new. Whatever it was that we were beginning, I was looking forward to it.

Authors Note

Just a random cool incident in my life that I want to share, I met Stan Lee recently. Kinda beyond awesome, I got him to sign a Spiderman comic for me and everything...

P.S. If anything in this chapter doesn't make sense, that's because I was half-asleep when I edited it. 34 hour long days followed by 21 hour long days aren't very conductive to the best thought process.

Next update will be October 4th
