Apollo POV

"Hit the Deck!"

I dropped to the ground just in time to feel something ruffle my hair, "Di Immortals, Percy! I thought I told you to wait!"

"It was an accident!"

I glared at the son of Poseidon as I got back to my feet. "Percy, we've been over this. What is the first rule of archery?"

The youngest god looked highly embarrassed, a bright blush on his face. "Never shoot when someone is going to retrieve arrows. I swear though, my hand slipped from the string. I didn't even pull it back all the way. I was just trying the thumb to lip thing you told me about."

I groaned. "Why are we doing this again?"

He scuffed his foot against the grass. "Because it's on our new year's list?"

I sighed and scrubbed a hand across my face. "Alright, new first rule. The bow stays on the ground whenever ANYONE is in front of you, deal?"

He practically dropped the bow in his haste to comply. His total lack of skill at archery could almost be considered endearing if it wasn't so dangerous to my health. I guess it shouldn't have surprised me when twenty minutes into his lesson, the archery range had cleared out.

I was starting to remember why we had decided to give up his training before. In all my years, I had never known anyone as bad as him. Honestly, if it wasn't for the fact that both me and my sister, too an extent, liked Percy, I would have thought he had been cursed.

I collected the arrows that we had borrowed and walked back to where the son of Poseidon waited. I placed the projectiles back into their holder and picked the borrowed bow off the ground.

"Okay Percy, we're going to try again. Please don't shoot me."

He glared at me but the overall effect was ruined by the blush that still hadn't faded. He accepted the weapon I offered and took his stance.

"No Percy. Stand like you're facing me."

"I am."

I sighed, "Have you ever ridden a skateboard?"

He gave me a confused look, "Yes. What does that have to do with anything?"

I rolled my eyes, "Just trust me. Imagine like your standing on a skateboard, how would you put your feet?" He shuffled his stance slightly so that both of his feet were at a 90 degree angle to the target and shoulder width apart. I smiled, "Perfect! Now just remember that footing every time."

I passed him an arrow. When he went to draw it back though, he instantly shuffled his feet back to the way they were before. "Don't move your feet."

He huffed. "How am I supposed to shoot like this, I can't even see the string!"

"What do you mean you..." I suddenly had a suspicion. I frowned. "Percy, do me a favour. Hold that arrow vertically in your hand. Good, now straighten your arm and hold the arrow so it's in line with the centre of the target and don't move it." He looked at me like I was crazy but he did it. "Okay, now close you're left eye."

"Why?"

"Just do it." He frowned but he did close one eye. "Tell me, did it move from centre?"

"Yes, but what does that have to do with anything?"

I smiled; my hunch looked like it might be correct. "Just one more thing and then I will tell you. Open both eyes to re-center the arrow then close your right eye." He sighed but did it. "Tell me, did it move?"

"No."

I stepped back and rolled my eyes. "Percy, why didn't you tell me you were left eye dominate?"

He gave me a blank look, "That I'm what?"

Well that answered that question...

"We need to find you a left-handed bow."

His frown deepened, "But I'm right handed."

I laughed. "Yes, but that doesn't necessarily mean that you should be using a right handed bow. Your left eye is dominant. In archery at least, you eyes are more important than which hand you use. Trust me; a left-handed bow will be better for you. You can't aim if your proper eye isn't even seeing the sight."

Half an hour later and I had found him a good beginners bow. The armoury had more left-handed bows than I had expected, but I had to find one that didn't have too much of a draw strength. It was partially because drawing a bow uses different muscles than he was used to, but mostly because I wasn't sure I should be giving anyone with such bad aim a more powerful one.

Once we got back to practice though, it was obvious that a left-handed bow made a lot of difference. He was still atrociously bad and I still wouldn't trust him to release the arrow until I was standing behind him, but at least his arrows mostly went forward now rather than wildly in every direction. There was still a ridiculous amount of bad habits to break him of, but it was a start.

We decided to call it quits for the day when Percy got within five feet of the target he was aiming for. We both agreed we didn't want to tempt the fates. If he was almost hitting the target and no one had gotten hurt yet, we would quit while we were ahead.

We had to wipe our feet very well before we entered our apartment building. Once the holidays were over, the snow was quick to melt but it had left large puddles of water all over the grass that led to copious amounts of mud.

We kicked off our boots inside and Percy headed for a shower while I heated up the leftover dinner from last night.

I would have thought that having someone move in with me would be difficult at first while we learned each other's habits, but it wasn't. It was nearly seamless. I had a feeling that was mostly because it was Percy though. He knew me better than almost anyone. Even though he had only been crashing at my house for a few weeks before he moved in, it felt more like he was coming home than truly moving in. True he had a few habits I didn't agree with, like the inability to put his wet towels in the laundry bin, but they were more endearing than annoying. The only real difference between him living with me now and him staying with me before was the fact that when I came out of my room first thing in the morning, I wasn't faced with a slumbering sea-prince on my couch.

"That smells good."

I shook off my reverie and turned to the son of Poseidon with a smirk. "That's because I cooked it, not you."

He gave me a fake pout, "That's not fair. I'm a good cook."

I ignored his adorable expression and winked, "Pancakes don't count."

"Hey, I can cook more than that. I'm amazing at canned soup too."

I couldn't help but laugh, "Someone has to be a pretty pathetic cook not to be able to handle instant soup."

He joined in my laughter and grabbed dishes for both of us. I took the food out of the microwave and split it between the plates. Once we settled at the table, a peaceful silence descended. That was one of my favorite things about living with Percy. We could sit together in the same room and not be compelled to fill the silence. It was relaxing.

"Hey Apollo? After you're done in the shower, can I borrow it to call my mom? I just want to check up on her. I know she was a little nervous about the meeting with her publisher today."

I shrugged. "Sure but if you only want to check on her, why not just look in on her?"

He frowned and shot me a puzzled gaze. "What do you mean? She's in New York. That's kinda a long trip."

I blinked in surprise. I had already gotten so used to thinking of Percy as an immortal that it sometimes slipped my mind that he still didn't know how to do much.

I cleared my throat. "It's easy, just use your multi-vision."

He gave me a blank look, "Oh of course! Why didn't I think of that! And multi-vision is..?"

I rolled my eyes. "No need to be sassy. It's exactly what it sounds like. Multi-vision allows you to look at more than one thing at a time. You can be seeing what's in front of you while at the same time seeing what's happening at Camp Half-Blood, or over on Olympus, or anywhere else you want to look."

The son of Poseidon frowned. "That sounds a little... creepy."

I raised one eyebrow, "It's a basic Olympian gift. Are you saying all the gods are creepy?"

He gave me a mischievous smile, "Maybe..."

I heard thunder roll in the background and I rolled my eyes. "It's all in how it's used. If you're planning on using your powers to watching your crush sleep? Ya, then you're a major, creepy, stalker. If you're planning on checking in on your mom to see if she's okay, that's completely different. We both know she wouldn't mind."

He didn't look convinced, "I don't know. I don't think I would want someone watching me when I didn't know."

I shrugged. "It's up to you if you use any of your gifts but multi-vision is very useful, especially in a fight. If you know how to use it, you can look behind you while looking forward. It eliminates you blind-spot." He still looked hesitant. I shook my head. "It's you call Perce. You decide what you want to do. I'm going to go take a shower."

Percy POV

I still wasn't sold on the idea.

On the one hand I really didn't want to risk invading anyone's privacy but on the other, perfecting multi-vision sounded like a useful task. It would definitely be worth learning so that I could see behind me in a fight. That would have given me a major advantage on more than one occasion.

I sighed, Apollo was right about one thing though. If there was one person who would have no problem with me checking in, it would be my mom. She always told me that I was free to Iris message her any time, day or night. There was always a few moments before she realized that I was there. This wasn't much different. She was the only person that I could think of using it on who wouldn't mind, besides Apollo that is.

Before the sun god headed for his shower, he gave me a quick explanation about how to see something other than what was right in front of my eyes. He told me about how similar it was to mist manipulation. The only difference being, instead of creating an image of what others want to see, you were creating an image of what you want to see. Or more specifically, who you wanted to see. I decided to give it a shot.

Focusing on just a mental picture of my mom didn't seem to be doing anything, so I decided to change it up a bit. I decided to imagine a wall of fog with my mother's picture displayed on it, the way that visions looked in the movies. It took me a few tries. I wasn't used to emptying my mind of everything but what I wanted to see, but after a few dozen attempts, something happened.

I felt my vision go blurry and all of a sudden, I couldn't see the living room anymore. Instead, I was looking at a blurry room with dark wood panelling that I had never seen before. The room may have been unfamiliar to me, but I would know the middle-aged woman sitting in one of the chairs anywhere.

Once I felt my eyes settle on the image, I realized I could still see the couch and fireplace of our living room, but the image of my mom was superimposed over top of it.

My mom was sitting across from two people, a balding man that looked around her age and a woman who seemed to be in her late 60's. I couldn't hear what they were saying, but the happy look on my mom's face told me everything I needed to know about the meeting.

I breathed a sigh of relief.

"Judging by your face, I'm going to guess you succeeded?"

I jumped nearly a foot in the air. I hadn't heard him at all. After several months of hearing everything, it was more than a little heart-attack inducing. "Holy Hades Apollo, you scared me."

He smirked, "I never would have guessed."

I took a deep breath and tried to get rid of the tension in my chest, "To answer your question, yes. It did work."

The sun god gave me a slightly impressed look. "That was fast. I thought it would have taken you a lot longer than that."

I gave him a playful smile, "What else can I say, it came to me super quick, I guess I'm just great."

Apollo laughed at my terrible poem. "Careful there Percy. I think some of my ego is rubbing off on you." I chuckled as he walked over to the couch and sat down next to me. "Okay, so tell me exactly what you saw..."

Authors Note

Sorry for making all of you wait for this, but isn't the expression 'absence makes the heart grow fonder'? ;-) I hope those who read my other stories feel that way at least... I really need to find time/energy to update those. M rated stories are difficult for me to write.

As for the archery scene, it is possible to be right handed and left eye-dominate.

Next update will be October 11th

Next Chapter:

Apollo told me that the vision should have had sound, but the fact that I got it so quickly still pleased me. It was much better than the weeks it took to manipulate the mist...
