March 28th

Apollo POV

It had been exactly one week since Percy and I started dating. Half of me was still in disbelief. I could hardly believe that the son of Poseidon returned my feelings. The other half though, was going crazy. The distinction between my moods completely depended on where we were.

If we were at home, I was as happy as Dionysus at a wine tasting. Whenever I wrapped my arms around my sea prince, he would give me one of his blinding smiled and I'd melt. Lying on my bed while the son of the sea god played with my hair made me happier than I could remember being in a long time.

On the other hand though, every time we were outside felt like torture. It had only been a week and I felt like I was going insane. I was doing my best to keep my promise about allowing him to tell his friends, but he really wasn't making it easy on me. He'd smile at me and it was all I could do to resist covering his lips with my own.

The one plus side though, was that we already flirted with each other before so when I messed up no one questioned us.

"Seriously Apollo, I'm beginning to think that the children of Poseidon were just not meant to use a bow."

I chuckled. "Frank is a descendant of Poseidon and he is fairly good with a bow."

He rolled his eyes. "Ya, like a few hundred generations ago. He's also the son of Mars."

I shrugged. "I didn't say he was closely related to Poseidon, just that he was." I stepped closer to the son of Poseidon and put my hands on his hips. "Now come on, just try again. I know you can do this."

He tensed a little at my touch and it caused me to look around. My sun was shining brightly and there wasn't a cloud in the sky. As such, we were far from the only people in the archery range. Usually he didn't mind me wrapping my arms around his waist in public since we were already so overly close, but I figured his hesitance had to do with the fact that Frank was training a few new demigods at archery less than 50 feet from us. I sighed regretfully and barely stopped myself from tucking my head into the crook of his neck before I let him go and stepped back.

I decided I should try to get us back on track before I gave into the temptation to hold him again. "Try again Perce."

Percy POV

Half of me was over the moon. I could still hardly believe that Apollo wanted me. Every time he kissed me I felt like my heart was going to explode. The other half though, wasn't feeling nearly as good.

I could tell that the sun god wasn't happy keeping our relationship a secret, but I didn't know what to do. Even if he hadn't said anything, I knew him. I could tell how much it was killing him to let me go earlier. I wanted to tell our friends, I really did. I had tried to figure out what I wanted to say to Annabeth several times, but I always drew a blank.

I didn't know what to do. I needed advice and I knew just who to call.

When the mist cleared, I could see our kitchen. My mom was just pouring a glass of water. When she turned around and saw me, her face split into a smile. "Percy!"

I returned her grin and waved, "Hey Mom."

"It's about time you called. I haven't heard from you in a week and a half."She crossed her arms to give me a stern look, but she couldn't completely hide her smile.

I rubbed the back of my neck and gave her a guilty look. "I'm sorry. I've been busy."

She gave me a knowing smile, "With Fred?"

I blushed. "Ya."

"So he asked then?"

"Ya... He did."

She gave me an expectant look, "And? What did you say?"

I felt a rush of heat to my cheeks. "Yes."

She laughed and gave me a huge smile. "Oh sweetie, I'm so happy for you."

I bit my lip. "You're not... mad?"

My mom gave me a confused look. "Why would I be?"

"I don't know." I found that I couldn't meet her eyes. "I just thought... I mean, he's a god."

Her eyes widened in understanding and she shook her head. "No Percy. I don't care who you chose to be with, as long as you're happy. Just because things didn't work out between your father and me, doesn't mean that they won't for you. Besides," She gave me a smile, "That boy clearly cares for you. That's all I want for you."

I felt a weight that I didn't even know existed, lift from my shoulders. I knew that my mom wouldn't care that I was dating a guy, but I was worried that she would be upset I'd chosen a god. She knew better than most just how difficult dating a god could be.

I gave her a grateful smile, "Thanks mom."

She waved off my thanks. "So how is it going for the two of you so far? Has he taken you on a date yet?"

I bit my lip. Now was the perfect opportunity to ask. "Not exactly... We're keeping it a secret for now."

She looked surprised. "Oh? Why? From the conversation I had with Fred, I would have guessed that he would have been excited to tell everyone."

I rubbed the back of my neck. "Actually, it was me who asked to keep it quiet."

She looked bewildered. "I don't understand. Why wouldn't you want to tell your friends Percy? It's not like you to keep secrets."

"I don't want to, I just... I don't know how to tell Annabeth. I don't want to hurt her, but now Fred is unhappy. I really want to tell everyone, but..." I trailed off, unsure of how to finish.

My mom's eyes widened in surprise and she gave me a disappointed look. "Perseus Jackson... I know that you don't want to hurt your friends, but you need to think about your boyfriend too."

I knew that's technically what he was, but I still blushed when I heard my mom call Apollo my boyfriend. "I know, but he's not pushing me to say anything. He knows that I want to figure out what to say first."

She shook her head and gave me a sad look. "Honey, I know that you don't want to hurt Annabeth, but sometimes these things are unavoidable. The two of you were close, but you shouldn't let that stop you. Right now not only are you hurting Apollo by making him keep it a secret, you're hurting yourself too. I can tell. You're young. Love is supposed to be exciting; it's not supposed to make you unhappy. You can't tell me that keeping him a secret is really what you want."

"Well, no. But I..."

My mom shook her head. "There are no buts, Percy. Both you and Apollo deserve better than to have to keep your relationship hidden." I couldn't help but notice that was the first time she had referred to him by his real name, even though I knew she knew who he was. "If all that's keeping you from telling people is Annabeth's reaction, then I have something for you to consider. Tell me, how would she react if she knew that she was the reason you are afraid to tell your friends?" I winced. The daughter of Athena would be horrified if she knew. She would worry that I was thinking that she wouldn't support me. My mom nodded as though she could read my thoughts. "That is what I thought." She sighed. "I know it's going to be hard for you honey, but you have to remember that you aren't together anymore. You've moved on."

I bit my lip. "What if she decides that it's too hard to be around me after? I don't want to lose my friend."

She raised one eyebrow. "I think we both know that you don't actually believe that. Annabeth was your friend long before she was your girlfriend; nothing is going to change that. It might be awkward for a while, but no more so than when you first broke up."

She was right. Though the daughter of Athena would always be important to me, our relationship had changed. She was one of my first friends, but Apollo was my boyfriend.

I sighed. That was not a conversation I was looking forward too. "Okay... I'll tell her."

"Good." My mom smiled. "Now, why don't you tell me about Fred? I want to know more about your new boyfriend."

Authors Note

I'm sorry everyone. I was crazy sick yesterday. I spent about 14 hours of it curled up in a blanket with a bucket. I'm feeling a bit better today, but I'm definitely not at 100%, which is why this chapter is so short. I'm mostly just trying to get it finished without being sick again.

Next update will be January 31st

Next Chapter:

The daughter of Bellona smiled at us before she turned to give the son of Mars a triumphant look, "I told you. Pay up guys..."
