Percy POV

"Come on, dragging your feet isn't going to change anything."

The god of the sun gave me a pained look, but I could see a hint of playfulness in his eyes. "It might. Maybe if I annoy you enough, you'll get tired of trying to coerce me into joining the rest of your crazy friends."

I raised one eyebrow and gestured around to the cloudless sky and the unseasonable warm ninety degree temperatures. "It's beautiful out. Can you honestly tell me that you'd rather stay indoors?"

He shook his head and gave me a very serious look. "If I die, I just want you to know that it's completely your fault."

I rolled my eyes and stuck out my tongue at him. "You're over exaggerating."

"I'm really not. It's way too early in the year to go swimming."

"We went hippocampus riding back in January!"

"Yes, and that was too cold too."

I gave him my best puppy dog look. "Why don't you trust me? Swimming with you is more fun. Won't you change your mind?"

Apollo couldn't completely hide his smile, but he quickly forced his face back into a blank mask. "While I will admit, your poems usually work, this time they will not."

I snickered at his haiku and tugged on his hand. "If my poems really won't change your mind, then it's just because you've already agreed and don't want to admit it." I waited for him to deny it, but when he stayed silent I laughed, "Knew it."

He finally gave up the blank mask and smiled. Using the hand he was holding, he swung me closer to him. He wrapped his arms around my waist and nuzzled my neck. "I'm beginning to think that you know me too well."

I shook my head and smiled, before wrapping my arms around his shoulders. "That's impossible. I'm your boyfriend; I'm supposed to know you well."

"I disagree." The blonde god stole a short kiss before pulling away to hold my hand again. "My ex's never knew me so well and I assure you, it was always much easier to mislead them."

I inwardly cringed. I did my best not to think about some of his ex's, and the fact that they were the mothers of several of my friends. It was just too weird to think about.

I shook my head to dispel the awkward thoughts and pulled on his hand. "Quit trying to distract me, we're going to be late."

Thanks to Apollo purposely slowing us down, we were almost the last to arrive at the river. We went to change into out swimming trunks and by the time we were done, Calypso and Leo had arrived.

The sun god and I dropped the bags holding our clothes next to the tree our group had claimed. When I turned around to tell the last two where the change rooms were, I noticed the son of the smith gods arm.

I frowned and gestured to the cast he was wearing. "Hey Leo, what happened?"

The son of Hephaestus coughed and ran a hand through his hair. "So you know how I told you guy that I wanted to do some upgrading to Festus' programming? Well..."

Jason started laughing, but he stopped when his girlfriend punched him in the arm. The daughter of Aphrodite turned to the mechanic with a worried expression. "Are you okay?"

The black haired boy nodded, "Ya. It's not permanent or anything, but I did break it. That means no swimming for me, which sucks because I was looking forward to today."

The daughter of Athena frowned. "I'll stay on the bank with you if you want. I don't mind."

He shook his head, "No it's okay. You guys can still go have fun. Calypso said that she'll sit with me."

The goddess in question smiled, "I didn't really want to go in anyway. It's going to be really cold this early in the year."

The god of poetry gave me a look that clearly said, 'I told you so'. Rather than answering his unspoken statement though, I just gave him a kiss on the check and turned back to our group. I smiled at the golden boy and raised an eyebrow in challenge. "Race you in?"

I had barely finished my sentence when I heard a splash. I turned to the river just in time to see a head pop back above the water. The daughter of Pluto smiled at us as she flipped the hair out of her face. "Are you guys coming, or what?"

Apollo POV

I had no complaints whatsoever when Calypso told everyone it was time for lunch. The son of Poseidon may not have believed me, but I was right. Just because it was beautiful out, did not mean the water was warm. I could barely feel my feet.

I gratefully took the towel that the goddess offered and wrapped myself in it. I saw the others wandering off to get changed before lunch, but I couldn't bring myself to lose what warmth the towel was offering. Instead I walked over and took my seat next to the son of Hephaestus while I waited for everyone else to return.

The son of Hephaestus gave me a mischievous smile. "A little cold, are you?"

I shivered and gave him a dirty look. "Feel free to go test that water yourself."

He just laughed at me. "Nah, I think I'm okay with keeping all my toes. I'll leave the hypothermia to you."

The daughter of Atlas gave her boyfriend a stern look as she passed me one of the sandwiches she'd made. "Be nice."

He gave her a faked affronted look. "I'm always nice!" I couldn't help but chuckle. Something about the hyper boy reminded me of Percy. The black haired boy caught my eye and smiled. "So I've been thinking..."

I raised one eyebrow and smirked. "From what I've heard of you, those could be dangerous words."

His eyes widened in surprise before he started laughing. "I'll have you know, I'm not nearly as bad as my reputation would suggest. People just like discussing my accidents more than my inventions." I smiled. I knew from Percy that he was a lot like his father. That meant brilliant, but also on occasion dangerous to be around. "But that's beside the point, that's actually what I wanted to talk to you about." I frowned. He'd lost me already, but before I could ask for clarification, he continued. "We don't really know each other. So I was thinking that we should go on a double date, you, Percy, Calypso and I."

I hated to admit it, but I wasn't sure what the two had to do with each other. "I am not sure I understand."

The son of the smith god smiled at me. "I think it would be a good chance to get to know you a bit better. I mean, I know Percy, Calypso knows both you and Percy, Percy knows all three of us, but I don't really know that much about you."

I wasn't entirely certain how to respond. I had nothing against the son of Hephaestus but in the time I had known him, I'd learned that he likes to solve things. There was only so much I could tell him about myself. If he wanted to get to know me, how long would it be until he started asking questions that I had no answer too?

Before I was forced to respond, the son of Poseidon returned. He gave me a smile as he ditched his wet swim trunks by the tree and came to sit with me. "Hey Fred, aren't you going to change?"

I gladly took the opportunity to avoid giving an answer. I was perfectly content where I was now that the son of Poseidon had joined us. I smiled at him and shook my head. "Not right now."

The young god looked surprised, but didn't say anything else on the subject. He just smiled at the son of the smith god.

Before I could even think about warning him not to, he asked. "So what are you guys talking about?"

I felt my spin stiffen, but I wasn't sure if anyone noticed. "I was just telling Fred that we should go on a double date with you guys."

The son of Poseidon smiled. "That sounds awesome to me, what do you say Fred?"

He turned to me with a smile. There wasn't much I could say by then without offending his friend. I internally sighed while outside I nodded and smiled, "Why not?"

We ended up spending all day and well into the evening by the river.

By the time we'd got home, I was too tired to watch a movie. I headed directly to my room collapsed on the bed. It may have been a fun day, but it was also an exhausting one. I could tell that I was going to sleep like a child of Hypnos. I was just closing my eyes, when I felt a tickle begin in my nose. I twitched it, but it didn't go away. I tried again but it only made the feeling worse.

I drew in a stuttering breath before, "ACHOO!"

My eyes shot open and I sat up in shock. I could hardly believe that noise had just come from me. I may have never made that sound before, but I didn't need to be the distributor of the highest quality sneak previews of destiny for millennia to know what was happening. I sniffled and rubbed my nose...

I was getting sick.

Authors Note

So I am sure that you are tired of excuses, frankly I'm tired of making them, but this week it is VERY justifiable. I had every intention of updating yesterday. What got in the way was that I was too concerned about my dad. He was diagnosed with cancer a while back. His major operation was this weekend. I didn't think it would affect my ability to work because the doctors had such high hopes, but I also know he likes to play down how serious something is so that we don't worry. Turns out, I didn't handle it very well. I was crying and pretty much unable to do anything because I was so anxious that something would go wrong.

However I am INCREDIBLY happy to report that the surgery was a complete success. My daddy is doing very well and the doctors are saying he should be out of the hospital as soon as next week. :-)

P.S. Did anyone catch the hidden oracle quote?

Next update will be April 25th

Next Chapter:

I was doing my very best not to laugh, but the god of the sun had never looked so human to me before. The son of Leto rubbed his already red nose and pulled his blanket cocoon even tighter. He gave me the most miserable look I'd ever seen...
