I love all the reviews thanks so much for your feedback! In this story I have decided not to include Tommy at least not at the moment as one of the original Rizzoli kids. This chapter got a little long on me so I hope you stick it out I really see the bond between our leading ladies start to form. I hope you enjoy let me know what you think!
"You have your ID," Jane asked as she pulled into departures at Logan Airport?
"Yup," Frankie said tapping his backpack which would be his carry on.
"And you have the credit card I gave you?"
"Yes, although you still didn't have to do that my meals and lodging are covered."
"I got it as a just in case Frankie…like just in case you're bleeding and on fire you can use it to buy a bottle of water and a Band-Aid," Jane joked. "If the guys go out or if you feel like bringing your amazing sister something back here," she added handing him $100.
"Thanks," he smiled knowing he would only buy something for Jane and return the rest.
While their parents weren't perfect Angela was always very attentive to her kids while they were growing up. However, as Frank became more combative and fighting was the predominate form of communication in the Rizzoli house Jane really stepped up to make sure her brother was ok. He knew no matter what happened she would always be there for him.
"Oh hey take this with you," Jane said tossing him a well-worn baseball.
"Jane there will be plenty of baseball's there," he joked.
"I know smartass but this one is special."
"Why?"
"Because this baseball is the same baseball you used when you got your first strikeout against me."
Frankie was a little surprised at this.
"Really?"
"Yup, I don't know why I kept it honestly. No, that's not true I kept it because it was during that at bat when you finally struck me out that I knew you had a special arm. I knew you could really have a chance at playing at the next level whether it be college or the pros. You got this Frankie," Jane said handing the ball over.
"Thanks Jane that means a lot. I love you sis."
"Love you too baby brother…now get the hell out of my car before you're late."
Frankie hopped out of the car and grabbed his bag from the back. Jane watched him walk into the airport where she could see him meeting up with one of his coaches. She was so excited for her brother but also a little sad he was heading off and seemingly growing up right before her eyes. He would always be her little brother but she has a feeling soon she was going to have to share him with the rest of the world.
Jane headed back to her place to change before she was going to head to the bakery to pick up an extra shift. With her brother out of town for a couple days being home alone just wasn't as appealing. It didn't hurt to make a little extra money in the process.
"Hey Janie did Frankie make it off ok," Angela asked walking into the bakery before the late rush?
"Yup, he should be landing in less than an hour actually," Jane said looking at the clock.
"Thanks for taking him…I had to meet with the lawyer."
"Is everything ok?"
"Yeah, don't worry….oh and here," Angela said sliding something across the counter.
"What's this for," Jane asked picking up a couple $20 bills?
"I know you gave your brother money….ah don't even try and argue," the older Rizzoli said seeing Jane open her mouth to protest.
In fact, Angela didn't even give her daughter a chance to respond as she headed back into the kitchen. Jane just sighed and took the money and pick it in the tip jar knowing it would get back to Angela. She didn't have much time to think as the flow of traffic started to pick up…it as always busy on holiday weekends and when the Red Sox were playing.
After the rush died down she sat in the corner getting herself a hot chocolate and checked her phone. She had a text from Frankie that he made it and then a short time later a picture of the complex he would be playing in the next couple days. Jane was really impressed it looked like a legit professional field. She had no other message and it was then she realized she didn't really have a tons of friends anymore; most of that was her own doing.
"What are you doing? I am booooooooooored," Jane shot the text off to Maura.
She knew Maura was a few years younger than her and she was really Frankie's friend but she hoped to be Maura's friend too. The friends she used to have all scattered to various universities and since school was in session they weren't around. Anyone she had met up at UConn she had little interest in keeping in touch with.
"Just home studying," came a text a short while later.
"Oh helllllllll no meet me at the bakery, I am ready to blow this joint."
"Your mother owns the bakery Jane why would you want to do harm to it?"
"Ugh so literal it was a figure of speech Maura just get down here it's a long weekend you will have plenty of time to study later."
When Jane did not receive a follow up text she figured Maura was on her way. She grabbed a refill of her own hot chocolate and a second to go cup for Maura.
"Hey Ma I am going to head out. If a late rush comes and you need me to come back just shoot me a text. I will be hanging around for a little while."
"You go have fun Janie don't worry about anything here."
Jane saw Maura outside and before the girl had a chance to walk in just grabbed her coat and the hot chocolates and headed out the door.
"Well, hello to you too," Maura smiled as Jane thrusted the cup into her hand.
"Come on let's go."
"I can't even go in and say hi to your mother?"
"Nope, because then you will exchange pleasantries for 15 minutes and then she will start asking questions about what we are up to and before you know it an hour has passed and she will need me at the Bakery again for some reason or another. Out of sight out of mind lets go."
"It is polite to at least say hello to an older woman I have known since I was two and I have no idea what is going on tonight expect you are being extra bossy."
"Yup, now get a move on."
Maura went into a Wikipedia explanation why the younger generation should pay respects to the older generation. By the time she was wrapping everything up they were already at the Common.
"Wait where are we," Maura said looking around totally disoriented for a moment?
"The Common you goofball. Maybe if you weren't giving me a dissertation on why I should be nice to my mom you would recognize your surroundings….the fountain is right over there," Jane said taking her shoulders and turning her around.
"Ohh, well you still should be nice to your mom."
"I promise I will, but I just needed to get out of that bakery and I didn't feel like heading home yet since Frankie is in Orlando."
"You know you can always stay with me while he is away."
"Nah I don't want to cramp your style. I don't mind having the place to myself really."
"Did he make it down there ok?"
"You mean your boyfriend didn't text you," Jane joked?
Maura was momentarily speechless not sure how to respond. Jane sense her distress and immediately made the correct.
"Oh I know you're not together like that but I tease him about you basically being his wife."
Maura just nodded her head.
"Maur its ok," Jane said reassuring.
"Yeah?"
"Yeah."
Maura finally let out a little smile.
"Frankie texted me he landed but I didn't want to bother him down there."
"Oh yeah check this out he sent me a pic of the field," Jane said showing Maura the picture.
"Wow that looks beautiful."
"I know right."
The girls were walking around the common just talking and taking in the sights of the fairly busy park. There were a couple bars surrounding the park and they could easily tell by crowd reactions when the Sox did something well and when the other team scored.
"Sounds like the Sox just scored again," Jane laughed as Maura jumping slightly unprepared for the sudden roar.
"I've never been to a game."
Jane stopped abruptly.
"Jane what's wrong," Maura asked concerned?
"Please tell me you are kidding….you have never been to a game? What the hell is wrong with my brother?"
"Oh I have been to plenty of your brother's game but never the Red Sox."
"He should have taken you…he gets an F as a friend for that one."
"Oh Jane don't be so hard on him…it wouldn't be my first choice of activity and he was always going with his buddies."
"Oh I am taking you to a game. They are in the playoffs now so it might be hard to score tickets this season without me having to sell a kidney but next year you and me it is on."
Maura smiled seeing the passion Jane talked about the Red Sox and how she wanted to show Maura what Jane felt she was missing. Just over Janes shoulder Maura saw a guy that looked to be waving at her from a distance but she had never seen him before so she figures he must be looking towards someone else. Before she knew it the guy was right up on Jane.
"Hey Amanda," the guy said grabbing Janes shoulder.
Jane tense for a split second before not hesitating to grip the hand on her shoulder twist it around have the guys arm flexed behind his back and took him to the ground. The guy whimpered in pain having no idea what happened in the blink of an eye.
"Ahh man you're breaking my arm what the hell," the guy squirmed.
It took Jane a moment to realize she didn't know this guy and it appeared this guy unfortunately mistaken her for someone he did know.
"Jane it's ok," Maura said softly slowly moving to Jane to get her to release Jane's grip on this stranger. "It's ok," Maura repeated until the guy was set free.
"Damn lady take a pill you almost broke my arm."
Jane just ignored him mumbling an apology before heading in the other direction. Maura repeated the apology before chasing off after Jane. By the time she caught up with her she was sitting on a vacant bench. Maura walked over and sat down next to her not saying a word, just waiting for Jane when she was ready.
Jane knew her response in that situation was not normal and she couldn't lie her way out of this one. Honestly, she didn't want to anymore it was too much work and she was tired.
"Something happened," Jane voiced.
Maura nodded and again waited for Jane to continue whatever was about to be said she knew couldn't be rushed.
"Something happened while I was at school…it's kind of still going on actually."
Maura was a little surprised to hear this and hoped Jane would expand.
"I don't really want to get into it right now, but I was attacked. It just….it wasn't a good situation. I guess I am still a little jumpy," Jane admitted embarrassed unable to look at Maura.
"Come on let's go back to my place," Maura said gently taking Jane's hand in hers giving her a little tough of encouragement.
"Are you trying to get me into bed," Jane joked trying to deflect her pain with humor.
"Yes, you figured out my master plan," Mura said picking up on Jane's deflection tactics. "Come on let's go home," Maura softly encouraged again before they both headed out of the park.
