If there were ever a time Maura was thankful her parents traveled a lot, it was right now. When they got back to the house Jane was tense looking around like someone might pop out of one of the many rooms at any given moment. Maura had assured her that her parents were both in Paris at the moment and wouldn't be returning for a couple days, they were alone. Jane visibly relaxed after that and tried to keep the evening light and casual. She was in no mood to talk about what happened tonight and if Jane didn't put on a good front Maura would eventually ask. However, Maura knew not to press Jane right now…she had opened up a little tonight whether by choice or circumstance and when she felt like opening up more Maura would be here.

They had watched the tail end of the game on TV and had caught the highlights after the game was over. Jane took great delight in being able to explain the Red Sox to Maura as well as some of their history. When it got late Maura showed Jane to the guest room and where the bathroom was. That was how Maura had left Jane before retreating to her own room. Maura's thoughts were with the dark haired beauty in the next room but eventually she drifted off to sleep….that was until the house alarm system started blaring.

Maura jumped out of bed slightly freaked out, the alarm had never been tripped before while she was home alone at night. Immediately she ran to the guest room knowing Jane was probably just as freaked out…only she wasn't there. That actually brought a little more comfort to Maura knowing exactly what happened. Maura quickly made her was to the control panel and shut the alarm off and punched in the second code alerting the company it was just a false alarm.

"Jane," Maura called out heading down the stairs.

Maura wondering into the kitchen before finding her in the living room.

"I swear I didn't try and steal the Picasso or anything," Jane said totally embarrassed.

"Oh Jane don't be silly the Picasso is in the library this is the Van Gogh."

"Right…silly me," she mumbled. "I still wasn't trying to steal it."

"I know. Want to tell me why you were down here?"

"I heard a noise."

"What type of noise?"

"I don't know a scratching or something."

"Jane this house has an excellent security system including video cameras, door and window contacts and motion sensors."

"Well, they work great," Jane said rolling her eyes.

Just then the scratching noise was heard a game and Jane jumped to her feet trying to figure out where it came from. Maura however new exactly what it was.

"Jane come with me," Maura said holding out her hand.

Jane took the offered hand and follow Maura into the library.

"Wow this is almost better than the school library."

"Yeah, this is my room…father's library is much more impressive but he has many years on me."

"You mean you have read all these books and here is more?"

"Most of them yes…some of them just certain sections but I am working my way to complete it…..and right here we have bass who is apparently very active tonight. I am sure the alarms startled him as well but he is the source of the noises you were hearing."

Jane noticed the pen in the corner and sure enough inside was a little turtle probably the size of a basketball.

"You have a turtle?"

"Tortoise."

"Right and he is able to make that much noise," Jane questioned seeing the immobile animal?

"Oh yes he can get pretty active and sometimes tries to make the great escape. That's why I had to move him in here…he was in my room for a while but when he got too big for a tank and I would let him roam free in my room he got out and well let's just say my mother did not enjoy the shower guest."

"Oh my god no way."

"Yes, way. You think this alarm was loud, I am fairly certain they heard my mother's screams in Paris."

Jane couldn't help but laugh at that.

"I can only imagine…poor bass," Jane continued to laugh which caused Maura to giggle as well.

"It took him a while to recover from that," Maura smiled rubbing bass' shell.

"I am sorry I set off the alarms…it didn't realize there were motion sensors."

"No, Jane it is my fault I didn't tell you about the alarm. I am sorry I should have made you aware."

"It's ok," Jane shrugged.

"You want to head back up to bed?"

"If you don't mind I think I am just going to head back to the family room and watch some tv. I don't really feel much like sleeping at the moment."

"Not a problem lets go," Maura said heading back into the family room.

Jane took a minute to process what was said before catching up to the blond.

"Maura you don't have to stay up with me really it is ok…I am used to it."

"You're used to staying up in the middle of the night?"

Jane didn't know what to say so for the first time she was just honest.

"Sometimes…I get these nightmares and I just can't go back to sleep after that."

"What are the nightmares about," Maura asked gently as she sat down on the couch?

Jane remained silent for a few moments before sitting next to Maura on the couch and grabbing a blanket.

"A lot of the time it just has to do with my being confined in a place unable to get out."

"Claustrophobia is a very common anxiety disorder. Over 5% of Americans suffer from various degrees of claustrophobia and almost half of patients having to get an MRI report panic attacks from being in the machine."

Jane just looked at Maura her mouth slightly agape.

"I'm sorry I ramble facts," Maura blushed.

"Don't apologize for being smart or knowing interesting facts."

"You think they are interesting," Maura asked a little hopeful.

"Yeah, it is good to know I am not the only crazy one out there."

"Jane you are not crazy…like I said it is very common."

"I didn't used to be like this…I didn't care when I was a kid. I remember one time when I was younger the neighborhood kids were all playing hide and seek and we had just gotten this brand new trashcan."

"Oh you didn't."

"Yup, jumped right in and popped the lid on…it was clean what did I care," Jane laughed but it quickly died down as she continued that thought. "During the attack I was restrained in a room and I couldn't get out," Jane admitted.

Maura didn't know what to say…what do you say to someone that has been through something so horrific. She gently placed her hand on Jane's knee giving her physical support since she was unsure how to support her emotionally.

"I was such an idiot," Jane mumbled. "I heard a noise….man I really have to stop being so damn curious. It was in the lower level of one of the education buildings which is mainly used for storage people aren't usually down there. I didn't even think twice before heading down there."

"What happened?"

Janes hand moved to cover her left side as if flashing back to the incident.

"I don't want to talk about it anymore," Jane abruptly shut down the topic.

"I bet there are a lot of highlights playing on Sports Center right now," Maura said just as quickly changing subject. "I hope they have Patriot highlights."

"You watch football," Jane asked shocked.

"Well, I watch the Patriots. Mr. Kraft is a family friend and we have been to games throughout the years. I have enjoyed going and I like to follow them and see how they are doing."

Jane was stunned. She couldn't actually be hearing this right…it HAD to be another Mr. Kraft.

"Maura what is Mr. Kraft's first name?"

"Robert."

"Are you kidding me?! You're family friends with Robert Kraft…the owner of the New England Patriots."

"Yes," Maura said like it was a common occurrence.

"Man I really am way out of my league here," Jane mumbled to herself.

"What was that?"

"I was just shocked that's all…I mean the guy is a billionaire. Wait are you a billionaire? You know what don't answer that."

"I haven't graduated high school yet I certainly haven't amassed that much wealth."

"I see Frankie's sarcasm is rubbing off on you," Jane smirked. "Let's see how the Patriots and the rest of the NFL did today."

Jane flipped on Sports Center to fill her mind with noise and to ignore the haunting thoughts that constantly plagued her. While not revealing much Jane opened up more tonight then she ever had before.

"Hey Maur…."

Jane's voice trailed off as she looked down and saw Maura had fallen asleep against her shoulder. Jane couldn't help but smile at the comfort this brought. The night often toyed with her soft noises seemingly echoing through a megaphone or the swirl of memories preventing her from really sleeping. Jane grabbed a nearby blanket and covered them both. She propped her feet up on the table and wondered how many time through Sports Center it would take before she fell asleep. With Maura in her arms she didn't even make it to the top of the hour…comfort and support really were a beautiful thing.
