So does anyone remember this? Wow it has been sooooo long I had to go back and reread it, but I am going to pick it back up and try and give it an ending if people are still interested. A little review...Jane returned home from UConn after being attacked by Hoyt. Frankie and Maura are best friends and seniors in high school. Maura has had a crush on Jane since she was a little kid and they just recently started dating. Jane returned to Connecticut to testify at Hoyt's trial, but he escaped with the help of an apprentice. Anyway here is a little chapter to dive back in.
Jane paced her living room unable to believe the course of events over the last 24 hours. She was supposed to go to Connecticut to testify in Hoyts trial. He was supposed to be spending a significant amount of time in prison allowing Jane to start to move on from this whole nightmare. Instead, Hoyt escaped and had an apprentice almost get to her…again. Now she was on lockdown in her home…the place she was supposed to feel safe but really felt like a sitting duck.
"We have unmarked cars outside and cameras monitoring the area. He will not get you here."
"Are you serious Vince…he almost got me AT THE COURTHOUSE…SURROUNDED BY COPS," Jane yelled.
"Jane," Maura whispered grabbing Jane's hand hoping to calm her down.
Jane took a few deep breaths and shrugged her arm away.
"Every law enforcement officer in New England is looking for Hoyt Jane…we are going to find him."
"Before or after they find my body."
"Jane," Maura cried out not wanting her to even joke about it.
"Sorry," she mumbled, "but you guys don't know him like I do…he isn't going to stop until one of us is in a body bag."
"Well, then it sucks to be him," Vince shot.
Jane nodded a feeling of resignation washing over her.
"Would it be better if we moved to my house for the time being," Maura asked? "I mean it is in a gated community with a heavy security system."
"NO," Jane jumped in. "I am not putting you in danger like that…I am not giving him access to you. In fact, Vince you should take her home…you shouldn't be here," Jane said running her hands through her hair.
Vince turned to Maura to gauge her reaction.
"I am not leaving you," Maura said firmly.
"Maur please I can't pull you into this mess. Hoyt is not just a bad guy, he is sick and will not hesitate to hurt the people who I care about to get to me."
"If he wants to get to you he will have to go through me," Maura stood puffing out her chest just a little bit.
"My little badass," Jane laughed.
"So, you are staying," Vince clarified?
"Yes, I am staying. Frankie is here, we have the cops outside we will be fine."
"Ok, I will call with any updates and if you need anything and I mean anything at any time you call me."
"Got it Vince…and thanks. I know your doing everything you can."
"We are going to get him kid, I promise."
Once Vince left an awkward silence filled the small home. Jane was still in partial shock over everything going and while Maura and Frankie didn't know exactly how they could help. They were scared, scared for Jane and scared of losing someone they loved.
"Video game time," Frankie suddenly announced turning the TV on.
"Frankie…," Jane tried to complain.
"Nope, lets go Mario Cart classic 3 player race…I am going to kick all your butts."
"Please you couldn't beat Maura last time and I can easily kick her butt."
"In your dreams," Maura shot back. "I might not be a gamer but I crush it on Mario Cart."
"Less talk more action," Frankie said handing them each a remote.
The three played Mario Cart well into the night arguing and laughing like Jane never thought she would again. For just a little bit Jane was able to enjoy the people around her and forget about the fact someone was trying to hunt her down.
"All right guys it is getting late and you have school in the morning," Jane said after Maura had won another round.
"What? Jane you can't be serious," Frankie shot back.
"It's midnight and you have school what part of that am I not serious about?"
"I am not going to school tomorrow."
"Yes, you are."
"I am not leaving you alone."
"Trust me I am never going to be alone…I will be at the police station tomorrow. You are not missing school because of me."
"What if something happens?"
"Then I want you as far away from me as possible…Frankie I am serious here…I love you but you cannot protect me from this. I have to handle this and the police have to handle this, you can't stop him. I love you for wanting to though."
Frankie sighed defeated. He knew she was right but that didn't stop him from wanted to protect his sister with everything he had. Jane had been there is whole life looking out for him and he wanted to do the same, but this wasn't some bully on the playground.
"We don't know how long this is going to last…we can't put our lives on hold."
"Promise you will be safe Janie."
"Only if you promise to stop calling me Janie," she smirked.
"Fine," he mumbled as she messed his hair.
They all said their goodnights as Jane and Maura headed back to Jane's room.
"How are you doing," Jane asked Maura as they settled into bed?
"Shouldn't I be asking you that?"
"Come on Maur I know this isn't easy…hell I am shocked your still around."
"What is that supposed to mean," she asked suddenly sitting up?
"I didn't mean anything by it," Jane said pulling her back down, "I just mean I wouldn't blame you for running for the hills. This isn't just some baggage I am carrying here…I'm carrying the whole damn store."
"I am not going anywhere…especially now. I have waited 15 years to be your girlfriend some deranged psycho isn't going to scare me off," she smiled leaning up for a little kiss.
"You're something else," Jane smiled brushing back a stray blonde lock of hair. "But I wasn't kidding your going to school tomorrow so get some sleep."
Maura kissed Jane one more time before settling in to try and sleep. While Maura might have been able to turn on her mind and get some shut eye, Jane was no so lucky. Her mind was race a mile a minute bouncing between replays of the initial attack, the courthouse attempt and all the ways he could potentially try again.
"I can hear your mind thinking," Maura mumbled turning over in Jane's arms.
"I'm sorry," she whispered.
"What time is it," Maura asked trying to get her baring's?
"A little after 2am…try and go back to sleep."
"Have you been to sleep at all?"
"No."
"What can I do Jane?"
"I don't know…talk to me about something. Tell me something good."
Maura knew exactly what she needed to do.
"I do have some news, but I was going to wait until after the trial."
"We might be waiting a long time for that."
"Yeah, didn't exactly go according to plan."
"So, what is the news?"
Maura looked into Jane's eyes and brushed her finger along her jawline.
"I got accepted into all the universities I early decisioned for," Maura said softly.
"What? Are you serious? Baby that is so great," Jane said pulling her girlfriend in for a searing kiss.
Maura couldn't help but moan at the sudden passion between them.
"Maura…I can't…there are just no words to describe how proud I am of you. Congratulations."
"Thank you, Jane that means a lot. I have also decided where I am going next year."
Jane suddenly tensed fearing this answer. Some of the school she applied for in California, while others were east coast. In a split-second Jane decided she was determined to support Maura no matter where she was going.
"So who has the pleasure of educating that never full brain of yours?"
"I have decided to go to Harvard."
"Harvard," Jane said with a big smile, "Like Boston Harvard?"
"Well, technically it is Cambridge."
Jane tickled her side for her sarcastic comment. Maura laughed out loud and squirmed in Jane's arms.
"But you're staying here…on the east coast…near Boston," Jane said excited.
"I am."
"Wait…you're not stay here for me, are you? Cause I will support you no matter where you go Maura. I promise," Jane said hoping she conveyed how serious she was.
"I'm not going to lie and say you had nothing to do with my decision…Jane you are a part of my life, an important part."
"Maura…"
"No Jane let me finish. Harvard is one of the top three schools in the country and the top medical school…education wise this was an easy decision. All the school I applied to are top 10 schools and would all offer me great educational experiences, but only one school has Jane Rizzoli in its backyard. Harvard has always been my dream school, but now it has the added bonus of my girlfriend be close by."
"You're one thousand percent certain Harvard is the place for you?"
"I have never been more certain of anything in my life."
Jane leaned down and kissed Maura. Today was such a strange day what started out as a horrible nightmare was turning into something good. Maura could have gone anywhere in the country, but she had decided to stay close and attend Harvard University. She had no idea what tomorrow would bring but tonight she was going to take peace in knowing Maura wasn't going anywhere.
