Jane gasped and tried to sit up suddenly, momentarily forgetting her current circumstances. The pain shot through her body giving her a harsh reminder and she collapsed back in pain.

"Whoa hey, hey don't try and move," Maura jumped up from her chair to ease Jane.

What the hell was going on? Jane's mind was foggy and unfocused because of the pain meds coursing through her…the pain meds that were not doing their job right now. Her head felt like a rock band was playing inside her brain while her body felt like it was hit by a bus. Jane probably would have been in more of a panic if it weren't for the soft hand holding hers.

"Maur? You're here," Jane said confused.

"Like there is anywhere else I would be. Your mom left a little bit ago she took the overnight shift I'm up next and I am sure Frankie will be by this afternoon," Maura said giving Jane a little kiss.

Jane smiled for a moment before the pain started to settle in again.

"I'm going to call the nurse to get you something for the pain."

"Don't go," Jane begged.

"Hey I am not going anywhere," Maura reassured her, "I can call them from right here."

"No, they make me sleepy," Jane mumbled.

"You need to rest, it will help your body recover."

"Miss you."

Maura couldn't help but smile. Even when Jane should be thinking of herself and recovery, Maura was still at the top of her list.

"I miss you too, but I am not going anywhere," Maura said linking their hands, "we need to get you some pain meds but maybe a lower dose so you don't konk out on me ok," she smiled.

"Ok," Jane agreed.

The nurse came in and adjusted Jane's pain meds to ease her discomfort but not make her too groggy. The doctor followed shortly and ordered a battery of tests to make sure Jane was recovering. Most of the day was filled with nurses, tests and naps as Jane tried to recover.

"You should go home and get some rest Maur. Frankie will probably be here soon," Jane said squeezing her hand a little tighter not really wanting her to go.

"I'm fine."

"Isn't that my line?"

"Normally, but Jane really I am ok. I don't want to leave you."

"I don't want you to leave," Jane admitted.

"Good, we agree," Maura said kissing her softly.

"When do you think I can get out of here," Jane asked wincing slightly?

"Until you can breathe without pain, probably another two to three days."

"You going to be my doctor," Jane smirked?

"Any time," Maura smiled.

Maura watched Jane's facial expression change from relaxed to confused contemplation.

"What's going on in that head of yours," Maura asked softly?

"God I just…," Jane was at a loss for words thinking about the last 24 hours.

"What happened Jane?"

"That is what I would like to know."

Maura and Jane both looked over to the door seeing Vince standing there.

"Is it ok if I come in," he asked before walking further inside.

"Yeah, sure," Jane welcomed him.

"How are you feeling?"

"Oh you know like I was kidnapped and tortured by a psychopath."

"So good huh?"

"Ready to party," Jane smirked.

"Think your up for giving a statement?"

"Guess I will have to do it eventually," Jane mumbled not thrilled by having to do this.

"Is she eve allowed to give a statement? She is still fairly heavily medicated," Maura asked concerned?

"It's not an official statement, that we will have to wait until she is not medicated. I just want to start getting a picture of what happened. Odds are she will start to remember more but I also don't want to have her forget anything. Whatever she tells me now I can follow up with her later, might help trigger some additional facts."

"I'm good Maur I promise," Jane said giving her hand a gentle squeeze.

"Ok, I will give you two some time then," Maura said going to stand.

"No, stay," Jane begged.

Maura looked at Vince to make sure that was ok.

"Whatever she wants I am fine with," Vince said taking out his note pad.

"Where should I start?"

"Just start from the beginning."

"I was at the bakery just finishing helping ma when I ran into officer umm officer Dunkin…"

FLASHBACK

"Damn Dunkin a little breathing room…did you not get that memo," Jane asked her long-time guard who had been on vacation last week.

"Sorry we have a situation we need to go," he said ushering her to the car.

"Wait what situation," Jane asked not having been informed of anything?

"Vince and Sean are on their way to your house I am supposed to bring you back there for a brief."

"All right let's go."

Jane jumped into the passenger side of the unmarked cruiser and they headed out. Jane checked her phone again still not seeing any messages from Vince but then she noticed she didn't have service.

"Hey does your phone have service…mine dropped out for some reason," Jane asked moving her phone around trying to pick up a signal?

"It's not good to look at your phone and drive," the officer smirked.

"You need to learn to multi-task," Jane said rolling her eyes.

After a few minutes Jane noticed they were not taking the most direct route to her house. She didn't think much of it as there were multiple roads they could take, but when the passed the final logical road Jane started to get funny feeling.

"Dunkin you missed the turn."

"Don't worry about it."

"What? Where the hell are we going," Jane asked looking at her phone again, "and why the fuck is my phone not working."

"Tends to happen when there is a signal jammer."

"A what…

"Hello Jane."

Jane yelled as Hoyt popped up from the back seat putting her in a headlock using the passenger seat as additional leverage.

"Or guess I should say goodnight," his sinister laugh rung out as Jane felt a searing pain in her neck before darkness took over.

END FLASHBACK

Maura was trying to hold back her tears knowing Jane needed her to be strong right now. However, as she thought about how scared Jane must have been in the moment it nearly broke her.

"Do you know what time you left the bakery," Vince asked following up with some additional questions?

"Well, I was helping Ma because…," Jane trailed off not wanting to say it was because Maura was tutoring someone, "it was busy umm but it started to slow down so just after the rush I guess around 5 or 6," Jane said really trying to think of the time.

"Did you see Hoyt or just hear him?"

"I heard him first and I tried to turn but he was already securing me in a headlock. I tried looking at Dunkin and he…," Jane trailed off again the events of the night getting to her.

"It's ok baby," Maura said rubbing her hand, "just take your time."

Jane took a few deep breaths as her mind processed what happened in that car.

"Officer Dunkin he just had this smirk on his face…like was excited about what was to come. I looked in the review mirror and that is when I saw it was in fact Hoyt."

"Ok, that goods Jane, real good," Vince said taking more notes. "What is the next thing you remember?"

Flashback

Jane didn't know what had happened, her whole body ached as she struggled to get her eyes to open. Her eyelids felt like heavy bags of cement but she knew something was terribly wrong and she needed to get it together. She tried to remember anything that previously happened but her mind was a scrambled mess right now. As her eyes opened and adjusted to the bright lights in the large empty room she started to realize how much trouble she was really in.

"Fuck," Jane groan pushing herself up off the floor.

Her hands and feet were zip tied and are far as she could tell she was in some warehouse or basement type structure. She wanted to scream out for help but knew no one would hear her and it would alert whoever was around that she was awake.

The events of the night slowly started to come back to her…the bakery…leaving with Dunkin…realizing they weren't heading to her house…someone in the back seat…and nothing. She knew, she knew it was Hoyt and had to fight the urge to vomit. Jane knew there was a high likelihood no one knew she was even missing yet and if they did they had no idea where she was. Jane was on her own and if she wanted to survive this she was going to have to figure something out and in a hurry.

"I don't want to die…Jane you are not going to die tonight," she said giving herself a little pep talk.

If she didn't want to die she was going to have to come up with some sort of plan and in a hurry. With her hands and feet bound she was at a major disadvantage.

"Zip ties…ok Jane you know how to get of these," she talked to herself in hopes of keeping herself calm.

She had seen some dumb video online her brother had posted on Facebook of how to get out of different restraints including duct tapes, rope, handcuffs and zip ties.

"I know not everything on the internet is true but please god let that be one of them," Jane mumbled to herself.

She took a calming breath as she tightened the zip ties as much as she could before raising her arms up and thrusting them down toward her body. The force snapped the plastic ties freeing her hands.

"One down, one to go."

While getting her feet free did not go as smoothly as her hands, she still managed to free herself after a couple tries. She took in her surroundings and there really wasn't much to work with as she was in a large empty room. She ran over to the door trying the handle but of course it was locked.

"Cause an open door would just be too convenient right now," Jane sighed.

She turned around and walked the perimeter of the room picking up a nail and a piece of glass along the way. They weren't much but really it was her only option right now.

END FLASHBACK

"You're doing great," Maura smiled as she watched her girlfriend struggle with the events of her capture.

"Do you know how long you were in the warehouse? Do you think you were at any other location," Vince asked?

Maura knew he was just doing his job but she really wished her would back off and give Jane a little more time.

"I just remember the warehouse. I woke up there and that's the only place I remember."

"Ok. How long from when you woke up did Hoyt and Dunkin dome back?"

"Dunkin came first and Hoyt I don't know maybe 5 minutes later. I was alone in the room for maybe 15 minutes from when I woke up to Dunkin coming in."

"Ok great so what happened next?"

"I fought for my life."

FLASHBACK

Jane heard some noises outside the room and quickly ran back over to wear she was previously laying. She crossed her arms and legs as she laid down hoping to make it look like she was still tied up and unconscious.

"Hey pretty girl…you're going to have to come to soon. It is almost time to play," she heard Dunkin say brushing back some of her hair.

Jane had to channel every muscle in her body not to respond to his voice or touch in anyway. It must have worked because she heard him take a few steps away. What made her stomach churn even more was the sound of tools being laid out on a table. She didn't know where Hoyt was but she knew if he showed up before she could take out Dunkin she stood no chance. Carefully peaking her eyes open she saw his feet were facing away from her, his back was to her, this was her moment. She quickly jumped to her feet, kicking him in the nuts before jumping on his back trying to get him in a choke hold.

"YOU BITCH," he yelled out thrashing around.

Jane tried to hold on but she was losing her grip. She held on for as long as possible before being thrown to the floor landing hard on her side, her head banging against the hard floor. Dunkin gasped trying to get his breath back.

"Big mistake," he spit out grabbing a scalpel before advancing towards Jane.

Jane pushed herself back trying to create some distance between them until she could make it to her feet. Dunkin took a couple wild swipes at her with the sharp blade but with all the adrenaline coursing through her she didn't feel if he made any contact. After another wild swipe at her Jane made her move and gave him a solid uppercut to his midsection. The punch cause Dunkin to gasp and drop the scalpel.

Now it was hand to hand combat and Jane just had to survive. They spent a minute exchanging blows each trying to get the upper hand. Jane was clearly the better fighter but she could only hold off the taller stronger man for so long especially with an injured shoulder.

"You are going to pay for that," he yelled slapping her across the face after he had her pinned to the ground.

Jane was fighting for her life but she didn't have much left in the tank. Even went Dunkin stood over her huffing and puffing trying to collect himself, she didn't have anything to bring him down. She followed him with her yes as he walked back over to the table and grabbed a gun. This was it, this was how she was going to die.

"Hoyt doesn't want you to kill me," Jane barely got out, "he will kill you."

"Sometimes we can't all get what we want."

"Why did you do this? You were a good cop," she asked hoping to buy a little extra time in hopes a miracle would happen.

"I was and you didn't give me the time of day. I would have done anything for you."

Jane couldn't believe it. Dunkin had liked her?

"How do you go from liking me to kidnapping me?"

"Hoyt told me all about how you're a tease…think your better than everyone…how you have some little les on the side. I started watching you, trying to get you to notice me, but you couldn't be bothered."

"I can't imagine why I would choose a hot soon to be doctor over a balding beat cop," she snarled.

"Tough talk from someone about to die," he said practically standing over her now.

Jane knew she had one last chance to save her life. She did not want to die, not when she was really just starting her life and her relationship with Maura. She had so many things she still wanted to do with Maura…take her to her prom, watch her graduate, move in with her, make love to her maybe not in that order. No, she was NOT dying until she checked everything off that list. Jane felt the piece of glass she previously picked up and stabbed Dunkin in the calf causing him to fall to his knees.

Unfortunately, he didn't drop the gun but it gave her a chance to get it away from him. They struggled and fought each trying to take control. Dunkin was winning but Jane was not giving up. He was trying to point it at her chest and she was fighting to keep it away from her body. A shot rang out and Jane was a rip of pain go through her shoulder.

"WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON HERE," Hoyt yelled running into the room.

Dunkin turned to Hoyt as three shots rang out hitting Dunkin center mass. His body crumbled to the floor.

"Damn man can't follow simple orders," Hoyt said kneeling beside Jane brushing her hair back, "now I have to get you all cleaned up before we have some fun."

Jane flinched and jerked her head away from his touch. He just laughed and grabbed a new scalpel. He grabbed Jane's head holding her in place as he made a fresh superficial cut along her neck.

"What? No yelling? Well, don't worry the next one will hurt much more. First though I need to clean up this mess Dunkin made. Don't go anywhere," Hoyt smirked.

END FLASHBACK

"And I guess you know the rest," Jane said knowing they stormed in shortly after.

"So Hoyt is the one responsible for this," Vince said pointing to the bandage on her neck.

"Yeah, life long reminder of my nightmare."

"I will make sure it doesn't scare," Maura reassured.

"What umm what happened to him," Jane asked realizing she really didn't know what happened after they stormed in?

"He is in critical condition," Vince informed her?

"HERE," Jane yelled out her heart rate skyrocketing sending off various alarms!

A nurse rushed in the room to check on Jane. Maura tried to calm her down but the nurse was not taking any chances and gave her a sedative. It took a few moments to kick in but Jane was out and back to resting comfortably.

"What did you do that for," Maura yelled angry the nurse gave Jane unnecessary drugs?

"The patient was working herself up to a dangerous level. She has to calm down or she could injury herself further."

"I would have handled it if you gave me more than half a minute. She just found out her psycho stalker was in the same hospital as her…can't imagine why she was getting hysterical."

"He's not," Vince jumped in.

"What?"

"Hoyt isn't in this hospital. I made sure of that."

Maura took a deep breath, calming slightly at this knowledge.

"Good. I don't want them sharing the same air ever again. I don't wish death on anyone but it would be so much easier if his injuries were too much to overcome," Maura said feeling a rage she never felt before.

"He's not likely but I will let you know. I am going to head out since Jane is going to be out for a while. I will try and come back tomorrow for a follow up and make sure she is doing ok. Make sure she knows Hoyt isn't here."

"I promise I will thanks Vince."

Once Vince left Maura took her spot next to Jane and held her hand. It wasn't much longer before Frankie arrived.

"Hey Maur" Frankie said softly not wanting to wake his sister.

"Hey Frankie."

"How is she doing?"

"She has had a tough day, nurse had to give her a sedative, but she will be ok once she wakes up."

"You want to go home and get some rest? I promise I won't leave her."

"No, I'm not going anywhere I am going to stay."

Frankie new better than to argue with Maura on this one. He kissed her forehead and took a seat on the other side of the bed.
