Comments: A little drabble I wrote up. Ratbag and Ranger from Lord of the Rings: Shadow of Mordor end up in Remnant and decide to join Ozpin's faction and fight Salem. I don't really intend to write a full fanfic, but this moment was in my head so I just wrote it down.

"This is a gun," Ruby explained. She fiddled with the small contraption, seeming to put some small metal bits inside. She then lifted it, pointed it at the bottle on the fence, and pulled the trigger.

A loud bang resonated. Ratbag was shocked. The glass bottle shattered.

"But… how?" Ratbag stammered. Nothing but smoke had come out of the contraption, and the bottle exploded as soon as Ruby pulled the trigger.

"It shoots fast," Ruby shrugged. She held it out to him. "Now you try."

Ratbag hesitated. He slowly reached out, wrapped his green, clammy fingers around the handle, and took it from Ruby. It was surprisingly heavy for such a small device. The size of a dagger, with the weight of a sword.

Ratbag awkwardly tried to figure out how to hold it. Finally Ruby took his hand and guided his fingers to where they should be, with his index finger on the tiny trigger.

"Alright, here goes," Ratbag breathed. He pointed the gun at the next bottle, squinting one eye. He held his breath, and finally pulled the trigger.

The trigger didn't move. Ratbag stopped aiming and looked over it, clearly confused. He tried to squeeze the trigger more tightly, but it wouldn't budge. It wouldn't shoot.

"Blasted thing," he grumbled. He turned to Ruby. "Why isn't it working?"

"Oh, the safety's on," Ruby explained, pointing to a small switch on the side of the barrel. "You need to switch it off to shoot."

"Safety? On a weapon? That's the dumbest idea I've ever heard! Why would any weapon have that?" He flicked the switch and began to swing his arm around to aim, but his finger slipped and he pulled the trigger.

A loud bang echoed from the gun. The force of the shot slung Ratbag's arm back around and he almost lost his grip. A bullet smashed into the ground between him and Ruby, and she jumped back to avoid it.

"That's why," Ruby muttered.
