Chapter Eleven:

Jade:

Cat greeted me with a smile so wide it was concerning. How did that not hurt her face? Tori and her mother had left shortly before I heard Cat's eager knocking on the door. We were both on edge at the suspense of the impending doom we were each about to endure.

Before they left Holly was pestering me about my parents again.

"Have you invited them to the wedding yet?" She asked, between bites of her waffle. I looked at my breakfast intently as if it could answer for me.

"Uh, not yet" I admitted, waiting for Tori's mothers impending disappointment. She tutted then sighed.

"The wedding is in a few months Jade. You need to hurry" Holly warned me. I nodded.

"I'll ask them tomorrow" I promised, but crossed my fingers under the table just in case I was unable to keep that promise.

"Make sure that you do" Holly said before turning to Tori who was chewing her waffle silently trying to keep out of this conversation.

"And Tori. I trust you will make sure she sticks to this plan?" Holly said sternly, Tori nodded.

"Yeah" She sighed, giving me an apologetic look. Holly smiled, seemingly satisfied. She got up and took her plate and ours to the kitchen to wash up.

"Thanks Holly" I said, I really couldn't be bothered to do it myself at this moment in time.

"Yeah, uh… thanks mum we really appreciate it" Tori perked up suddenly remembering her manners. She'd been zoned out all morning and I really wanted to know what was going through her mind.

"You're welcome. I just wanted to do something nice for you both since I got you up early on a work-free day." Holly said, as if she felt the need to explain. Tori smiled as if she felt that her mother did need to explain.

"Yeah, you never did this when I was living at home" Tori stated, Holly seemed annoyed at the remark but plastered a smile on her face.

"I know. We've got to go now, Jade Cat will be here soon" Holly said, as she turned her heel and sped out of the kitchen with Tori following slowly behind.

"Hey Cat" I said, Cat gestured for me to follow her to her car and we made our way to wherever we were going.

"So, Cat. Why didn't you tell me about this dress shop?" I asked.

"Tori's mom told me not to" Cat said flatly.

"But we both know I can't afford to do this right now" I reminded her. Tori's mother didn't know this but I was confused as to why Cat didn't tell me considering she knew.

"I know. That is why we are heading somewhere else first" Cat smiled.

"Oh?" I asked, Cat tapped her nose.

"That's for me to know" Cat said. "Anyway I have some exciting news" Cat beamed, I raised my eyebrow with interest.

"What's the news?" I wandered.

"I'm pregnant. Or at least that's what the home test said. I'll find out for sure at the doctors tomorrow" Cat explained. I smiled, I was genuinely happy for her that was until I realised where she was taking me. The little minx must have told me only because she knew I'd be mad about this certain location.

"No, Cat! Please?" I begged, hopefully Cat stepped out of the car and opened my door.

"This is happening" She stated plainly and I reluctantly got out and followed her to my father's front door. After we knocked we heard rustling and then footsteps. My younger brother; Max opened the door.

"Hey, Kid" I greeted him. He's about seven years younger than me, so he sulked at me calling him a kid.

"I'm 15 Jade" He told me, annoyed. I shrugged.

"Is dad in?" I asked. He nodded and stepped aside to let us in.

"Max, who's at the door?" I heard Dad yell from the study.

"It's Jade and her friend Cat" Max yelled back. Dad seemed to rush out to see me. I hadn't been over much to visit since I left home 4 years ago.

"To what do we owe this pleasure?" my father asked. I froze unsure what to say or how to put it.

"Jade has something to tell you" Cat interrupted, gesturing for me to elaborate.

"Go on then Jade" Dad urged. I took a deep breath.

"I'm getting married in three months" I blurted it out fast and easy like a band aid. Dad nodded.

"Who to?" Dad asked. I looked at the floor. I was kind of unsure how he'd react after I tell him I was marrying a girl.

"A girl. Tori Vega" I breathed, still facing the floor.

"Oh… Well… congratulations" Dad mumbled.

"She has something else to ask" Cat added, I glared at her.

"I was hoping you and Max could come… even if mom decides to come too… And I wandered if you'd walk me down the aisle" I added. I didn't even realize that I wanted that till the words made it out of my mouth. Dad looked at me with this unreadable expression. Then he smiled.

"Of course I will… Do you need any help with money… I'd like to help you out… so long as you stay in touch…." Dad said. I grimaced.

"Tell him Jade!" Cat said, sternly. I said nothing.

"Tell me what?" Dad asked.

"I… Uh… am… in debt…" I blurted out the shame I felt after this revelation was why I hadn't been keeping in touch with my family. Plus I didn't want them to be able to hold it over me and thanks to Cat now they could.

"How much Debt Jade?" Dad sighed, I shrugged. I wrote the number on a piece of paper and handed it to him he sighed.

"Where did I go wrong" He sighed, looking at me sadly. I had expected a massive row by now.
