Chapter twelve:
Jade:
While Cat and Max played video games in the living room Dad took me to his study. It was exactly the same as I remembered it. The walls were painted a bright red and the floor was still black carpet. Two desks with computers on them sat beside each other on the wall opposite the door. The only difference was now my things were nowhere in sight.
"Jade. Why didn't you tell me?" Dad said finally breaking the silence. He sighed heavily as if he'd been holding in the urge to tell me that for ages.
"Tell you what? That I'm gay or in debt?" I wandered, desperate to know which one bothered him the most.
"That you're getting married! Were you even going to invite me?" He asked. I froze for a moment as I tried to think of an answer that would get me in the least trouble.
"I guess, I didn't think you'd come" I admitted. He sighed again and I wasn't sure if it was out of disapointment or if he was actually hurt.
"I'm your dad, Jade of course I'd want to go to yourwedding! I've never been against homosexual relationships, if that's what you thought?" Dad explained. I couldn't help feeling shocked by that. I'd always thought that he'd disaprove. Taking in what he'd just told me I wandered exactly why I'd had that impression.
"But... You..." I couldn't complete my sentence because I had no idea what I was going to say in the first place
"Look Jade. You're my daughter and I love you and I want to help you but I can't do that if you don't let me in. I know we've had our ups and downs but no matter what you think I care about you no matter what" He said, I nodded.
"Does your mother know about this?" Dad asked, I nodded again.
"And what did she say?" Dad asked. I sighed, I'd blocked out the conversation with my mother until now.
"She said my debt was self inflicted and she wouldn't let me borrow any money" I told him, he sighed and shook his head presumably making a mental note to speak to her about it later.
"Does she know about the wedding?" He wandered perhaps he had hope on her or something?
"No." I admitted.
"Okay. Well I really wish you'd have come to me sooner Jade and maybe you could have avoided this but I guess its all in the past now. How did you manage to get yourself in so much debt?" He asked, he sounded kind of surprised like he'd never heard of some one blowing money on horses or something.
"Roulette mainly. A few poker games...stuff like that" I admitted. "I guess I just liked the adrenaline" I added as an after thought.
"You should have been a doctor of adrenaline in that!" Dad joked, referring to the many times he'd wished I'd be a doctor instead of a performer. He started to write me a check for; $22,235 but before handing it to me he looked me straight in the eyes and said;
"I trust that you'll pay all of this back and not blow it on gambling?"
"Yes. I promise. I've been going to gambler's meetings" I told him. I'll admit it was tempting to just make the money and flee the country but when I thought about it I wanted to stay honest. I was starting to have what seemed like a good relationship with my father and I liked the sound of that. Then there was Tori. I didn't quite know what we were but I knew I wanted to stick around to figure it out. So that's why I knew that all of that money would be going to Monkey and Beck (in that order) straight away.
"Good! Now I expect Max, Suzy and I will be invited to your wedding?" Dad asked, he had a hopeful expression on his face. I nodded, Suzy is my step-mom we haven't always got on but she's not too bad I guess.
"Yeah of course dad" I replied. He smiled at that, actual smiling!
"When is the wedding?" He asked. I bit my lip then knowing how mad he'd be when he found out I'd left it this long.
"In two months" I said it fastly hoping it would lessen the blow. He shook his head.
"Okay jade, I want to meet Tori before the wedding so how about dinner next week here?" Be asked, another hopeful look on his face. I nodded and he handed me the cheque and exactly $200 in cash.
"That's for your dress, hopefully you'll be able to find something with that?" He asked.
"Yeah hopefully, thanks dad. I'm sorry I didn't come to you sooner" I said, he smiled slightly. I was genranly surprised by the turn out of today. I had been certain he'd disaprove and that he wouldn't help me out but maybe I'd based that all on my teen years in this house? If that even makes sense or maybe in the time I'd been living apart from him he'd changed either way I was happy and I could see how much he was trying with me.
Cat must have been rubbing off on me or something because I hugged him and I don't think I'd done that since I was six? He hugged me back and I felt lighter or something cheesey like that. The only thing that kept running through my mind was that now I had the money to pay off my debt the wedding was invalid... In the sense that we were only doing it to gain money, but I didn't want it to be like that anymore so I had one more thing to do after paying back the money! Confess to Tori how I really feel.
Which to be honest I still didn't know so the idea that I was going to tell her that I might like he kind of sounded weird when I thought about it... Andre!
'Andre would know what to do' I thought to myself. I was going to admit all to Andre!
A/N: So we finally know the total amount she owes. I worked it all out Beck lent her $8,000 and she owed Monkey $15,000 (unless I got my zeros wrong?) And she paid off $765 of it so far... I'm not great at maths so if I worked any thing out wrong then sorry. Anyway please review thanks for reading!
