There are many places Sakura would rather be right now, and none of those places have to do with being inside Sasuke Uchiha's car. She sunk herself deep into the car's leather seats, her hood pulled back enough to give him a visible enough view of the girls face, all behind tinted windows, thankfully. The said teen drove calmly, his eyes on the road, except when the streetlights turned red. That was when he'd turn his head in her direction, and would watch her until the light turned green again.
Sakura didn't bother speaking; the situation was already uncomfortable and it was supposed to be, so there was no point in trying to make it enjoyable. She sat in silence, her arms crossed and her head towards the window and her face in a very notable frown.
It was only at the third stop light when Sasuke reached over quickly and grasped her hand in his.
Sakura flinched back, trying to pull her hand away, only for Sasuke's grip to tighten, "You have to get used to this," his eyes on the road once again, "Especially if you have to play as my girlfriend."
She could hear the tiniest hint of a smirk on his lips, "Didn't I say I never wanted you to say that again?"
"I don't really recall," he mocked.
Sakura scoffed, and turned away, her hand still trapped in his grip.
How did it come to this? She thought with a frown, as she recalled the events of, actually, five minutes ago.
~Flashback~
It was a normal morning for Sakura as she walked down the stairs; her hood was up and she smelled the breakfast her dad insist she eat every morning. She hated to burden him with such a task, but she knew how happy he became whenever he saw her eat it.
Now, on a normal morning she would quietly eat at the table, her father sitting across from her in silence as they both ate; however, today there was a knock at the door.
She turned towards the two knocks with a questioning look. They never had visitors… well aside from her Uncle Minato and Aunt Kushina who she tried her best to greet and hide away. It was much too early for it to be them. It was another moment of pondering that she realized something else off about this morning… Tousan would have answered the door by now.
She looked around the first floor level of her house, noticing how quiet it was, she didn't hear the clattering of plates she usually heard from the kitchen. She quickly walked to the kitchen to find it empty and clean, except for a boxed lunch and the other she suspected to be her breakfast on top of the counter. Her eyes widened at the sight as she once again frantically looked around the house, hoping that she somehow had missed her father's presence.
Once again, confirming that he wasn't there, she looked back towards the door as the person on the other side knocked again. She hesitantly stepped forward, no one in school knew where she lived, so her harassers were out of the question, there was always Naruto but he had no reason to come over.
She stretched onto her toes to peak through her peephole, and was met with an onyx eye looking back at her, causing her to jump back a little. Only for her to regain herself, in an annoyed huff.
"What do you want, Uchiha?" she asked harshly as she yanked her door open.
"It's nice to see you too," he began as he walked passed her into her house, "No, I don't mind coming in at all. Aw, I missed you, too, it's been so long since I last saw you," he stopped in the middle of her hallway entrance before turning around with an amused smirk playing on his lips.
Sakura stood shocked at her doorframe, she felt her eye twitching in irritation. Who does he think he is?!
"I don't remember inviting you in, Uchiha," she said through gritted teeth as she slammed the front door shut.
"Of course you did, we just had the exchange a few seconds ago," he still held that playful little gleam in his eye, "Are you ready yet?"
"Your little monologue doesn't count as an exchange, and ready for what?"
"… School."
She sighed before walking passed him, "I was about to be, I just had to eat breakfast but then I noticed that my d…" she paused, "Why would you be concerned if I was ready or not for school?"
"Well," he draped an arm around her shoulders, "as your boyfriend, making you my girlfriend, it only makes sense that I take you to and from school, don't you think?"
She quickly shoved him away, "No, no, no, no, no. That was not part of the deal, Sasuke!"
"Oh good, your finally saying my name."
"That's beside the point!" she resisted the urge to stomp her foot, "We never agreed to –"
"There were only two things about our deal; one, I get to see your face, two, I help you out of this mess."
"That's right! We never agreed to anything else, so why are you here?!"
Sasuke sighed, "I'm here to take you to school, now go eat your breakfast so we can leave already."
"Sasuke, I swear I don't need you to –"
"You're used to getting to school early aren't you?" he interrupted, "Now if you don't want people to notice you anymore than they already do, I suggest you hurry."
"I wouldn't have this problem if it weren't for you in the first place," she grumbled as she walked around him to gather her things.
~End Flashback~
Without realizing it, her free hand found its way over to Sasuke and her joined hands in the center of the car, absentmindedly, her fingers played with the tips of his fingers as she thought back to her not long ago morning.
Sasuke sat back silently, mindful enough to keep his eyes on the road, but he noticed her small fingers grazing against his. He struggled to contain his smile, if at any moment she looked up and saw a grin on his face, he knew full well that her first and only conclusion would be that he was making fun of her. He didn't have to look at her to know that she wasn't fully aware of what she was doing, and for now he'd let her have that peace of mind. Resisting the urge to squeeze her hand, he drove on in silence.
.
.
.
Once at school, they were greeted with a blond nuisance sitting by the Uchiha's usual parking spot. Only when Sasuke's hand edged towards the gear shift did Sakura snap out of her daze and quickly released her hand from the Uchiha's grasp. She stepped out quickly enough to avoid Sasuke's questioning gaze but not fast enough to evade her apparently very quick cousin.
"Sakura-chan!" he yelled out as he caught her in an embrace, "The Teme didn't do anything to you did he?! Just say the word and I'll pummel him!"
Rather than try to escape her cousin's rather tight hug, Sakura focused more on keeping her hood over her face and resisting the urge to shout at her loud relative.
"You wouldn't even be able to lay a finger on me, idiot," Sasuke said as he came around the car.
Finally releasing Sakura, Naruto turned, "So you did do something!"
Sasuke huffed a tired sigh, "Idiot," before he wrapped an arm around Sakura's slim waist, leading her out of the parking lot.
He didn't need to look back to know that Naruto was right on their heels.
"You know Sasuke-teme," Naruto fell into step on Sakura's other side, "I think you're taking this whole relationship of yours a little too seriously. I mean no one's here!" the blonde waved his arms exaggeratedly.
"Tch, can't take any chances," he looked towards the girl in his arms, "Besides, if I leave this one alone, she's bound to find some sort of trouble."
"Yeah, he's right next to me," she muttered.
He frowned down at her before ruffling her hood-covered head, earning a tiny whine from the said victim, "Don't do that!" she said as she back handed Sasuke's chest.
Even now, Naruto loved watching the two. They hardly knew each other, yet they can act so comfortably with the other and they didn't even realize it yet. Sakura hadn't complained once since Sasuke took hold of her, even after that little jab she didn't struggle against his hold. Naruto had first saw it yesterday on the roof.
~Flashback~
Usually when Naruto gets a text from a certain bastard, all he gets is a blank message making the blonde start the conversation. This time however, there were words… okay well there was a word. "Roof."
Naruto was still in his desk along with the rest of the students in class, and Kakashi-sensei was seated in the front, his face buried in his favorite and unnamed orange book. Kakashi maybe a very laid back teacher but he did have a certain strictness you didn't want to be in the receiving end of. And he desperately hoped that it wasn't his turn to receive it.
"Um, Kaka-sensei," Naruto said as he approached his teacher's desk, "Can I go to the bathroom?" thinking quickly, he clutched his stomach and twisted his face into a painful grimace before Kakashi looked up, "Think I drank some spoiled milk again."
Kakashi gave the blonde a lazy look over before he looked back down onto his book, waving the teen off.
Without a second of hesitation, Naruto stormed out of the room. Once out of the classroom, did Naruto text Sasuke back, telling him that he's on his way. He was hoping that Sasuke would finally explain what was going with this whole Sakura thing. He was already aware that Sasuke had this unusually long curiosity with his cousin but he never thought it was large enough to make him decide to do something like, claiming her as his.
Behind the door to the roof Naruto gathered his breath. Slowly he peaked through the door's clear window making sure he wasn't interrupting anything. But the shouting he heard ruled it out.
"You have to be completely insane!" he heard a girl yell. That voice… he had heard it before. He saw Sakura get to her feet as she continued to yell down at Sasuke, "Being your girlfriend isn't going to solve anything! It's just going to cause me more trouble!" this was the first time he had ever heard Sakura speak… well he thought. However, at that moment, Naruto can almost swear he had heard that voice before, perhaps in a different pitch but he was sure he had.
His mind traveled back, when he was a louder four year old running crazily around his backyard, laughing loudly until he came to a stop. His wide-eyed self turned around, and his smile grew widely, "Sakura-chan!"
Before Naruto realized, he already had the, now, older girl wrapped in his arms.
He heard Sasuke shuffling around and then he felt pressure on his shoulder, pushing him back.
"The hell Naruto what are you doing?" Sasuke demanded, as he held Sakura close to him, his hand protectively over her hood.
Naruto's eyes remained wide as he continued to look at Sakura's covered face. "Sakura-chan, I remember," his voice unusually quiet for a change.
He saw Sakura tense in the bastard's arm, "What do you mean?" Sasuke asked cautiously.
"I can finally remember my cousin," he said louder, "I remember her."
Naruto saw the girl bowing her head underneath Sasuke's protective grip; he noticed how she wasn't fighting against his rather intrusive hold. Not to mention how she was speaking so softly that the only indication that she was saying something was Sasuke inclining his head down towards her direction.
Once again the bastard faced him, never once relaxing his hold on Sakura, Like I would do anything! Naruto thought, "Prove it."
Naruto groaned, "Well back then she was like about this tall," he positioned his hand toward his knee, "She was really pale, turned red real easily, um, green eyes, like big bright eyes," he used his hands to further emphasize, all the while not getting a single reaction from neither of the two before him, "And pink hair! Yes! I don't know if she dyed it now or not but yeah she had pink hair, it suited her but it was a little weird."
He saw how Sasuke shifted slightly to look directly at Sakura, her face hidden. Neither said a word but somehow they were able to make a deal.
"Fine," was all Sasuke said, "But you still can't see her."
Naruto pouted, but nodded nonetheless, "Can I still hug her?" he said stretching his arms out towards her direction.
And sure enough, Sasuke once again held Sakura behind him, both hands holding her steady behind him and once again she didn't protest the sudden movement, "If you can, dobe," was all the bastard let on.
End Flashback~
They continued walking through the school, once in the building Sasuke's hand dropped from Sakura's waist, however he stayed close by her side.
"So are you guys basically my bodyguards?" Sakura muttered through the halls.
Sasuke looked down towards her, "Silly, I'm just your protective boyfriend," his eyes flashed to the blond on Sakura's other side, "I don't know what he is."
Naruto grinned as he draped his arm over Sakura's shoulders, "Dude, seriously, I'm her favorite protective cousin!"
Sasuke let out a small growl as he shoved Naruto's hand away from Sakura.
"You guys are being such a bother," Sakura sighed between them.
"Its your own fault," Sasuke said once he regained his composure.
Sakura fully turned to him; "Yes all my fault that you decided to get involved," her glare was evident.
"Thank you for admitting it," he smiled down at her, earning a huff from the said girl.
Yes he liked messing with her more than he would like to admit, but more than that he liked to know that she still blamed him for everything. That was the entire condition for this plan to work, and if he can reinforce it in any way he would.
However, there was something that was still bugging him, though this had nothing to do with the current plan… but it could complicate it a bit.
There was a loud vibration next to Sakura as they finally reached Kakashi's room. Sasuke looked passed her to see Naruto reading something on the screen of his phone, his eyes wider than usual.
"I think we may have a problem teme," Naruto said, Sakura looking towards Sasuke in confusion.
"Tell me its not Ino," Sasuke groaned.
Naruto nodded, "Apparently she heard yesterday, I'm shocked she didn't come charging at you right after."
Sasuke sighed, but noticed Sakura's confused stare.
She wasn't ignorant to Naruto's usual group of friends around the school. Nor was she unaware of who Ino was, but that didn't mean she understood what was going on.
"Ino isn't really a fan of yours," Sasuke said simply.
She rolled her eyes, "A lot of people aren't a fan of mine."
"The thing is,"
"The THING is," Naruto interrupted, "She is a complete drama queen, so right now, Hinata texted me, saying that Ino is already here, about to cause a rampage if she finds you," he told Sakura.
She heard Sasuke curse quietly next to her. Somehow those words weren't enough to cause her to panic as she assumed she should be doing.
"Okay," Sasuke said as he pushed the classroom door open, revealing Kakashi writing on the chalk board, "Sakura you stay here, don't leave this room until I come back, morning Kakashi, Naruto you come with me," and like that they left her in the care of her father.
"Should I even ask?" he asked quietly.
Sakura bowed her head, her voice returning to its soft volume, "I wouldn't know."
…
There were so many things Ino was. And a reasonable person wasn't one of them. Yes, she didn't like Sakura one bit, did that mean that none of her friends can like her either, according to her, yes, it meant just that.
"What exactly happened Naruto," Sasuke asked as he walked hurriedly to the school's quad.
"All Hinata told me was that Ino was being crazy and that Sakura and you should watch yourselves," he said keeping up with Sasuke.
"This is ridiculous," Sasuke muttered.
"It is Ino," Naruto retorted.
Naruto knew better than anyone else how stubbornly unreasonable Ino could be. Once she found out that Sakura and he were related she went livid, accused him of being a traitor and conspiring against her… He did say that she was an over dramatic drama queen right? The only thing that calmed her down was when Hinata explained that Sakura isolated herself from the family, so that any kind of communication she thought they may have had was non-existent. Regrettably, Ino took that as an invitation to further dish on his mysterious cousin. It was a while before the two spoke to each other again but under the condition that his cousin was never brought up in conversation, they made amends in some way.
The two continued to search through the school grounds for their overreacting friend, maybe even hear her if she was going crazy with the others.
"Shikamaru! I Swear To Everything, That If You Don't Step Aside I Will Claw Those Little Eyes From Your Face!" the two heard an obvious Ino screech, "Kiba If You Don't Get Your Mongrel Paws Off Of Me I Am Going to Hurt You In Ways You Wouldn't Even Imagine!"
It gave both teens some ease knowing that some of them were at least trying to detain their lunatic of a friend.
Heading towards the sound of Ino's shouts, Naruto and Sasuke prepared themselves for the confrontation. Depending on how angry Ino was will depend on whether or not Naruto will need to act as a human shield. Sasuke was ready to shove his best friend into the fire that was now Ino as her shouts became more and more clear.
As they rounded the corner, they were met with an interesting sight.
Shikamaru stood blocking Ino with his arms crossed, and his face pinched in obvious annoyance. Kiba stood behind her, his arms wrapped around her waist and arms, trying to hold her in place against her frantic squirming. Hinata was looking around frantically until she finally spotted the source of Ino's anger.
"Well this seems a lot worse than I thought," Naruto muttered.
"Fantastic," Sasuke huffed as he continued forward until Ino finally caught sight of him.
Noticing that Ino had settled for a disturbing glare Shikamaru turned to see the two arriving at the scene.
"Well it's about time," he sighed, "its exhausting trying to contain this troublesome woman."
Sasuke kept his cool front in front of his friends. Especially towards Ino, who was finally able to break free of Kiba's hold.
She stood with her chin held high, fury evident in raging blue eyes. From what he could tell she was trying her best to keep from yelling profanities.
"Well Ino," Sasuke began, "What do you want from me?"
She gave out a humorless huff, "Do you even have to ask?" she took a step forward, having Naruto jump behind his best friend, "Care to explain what exactly is going on with you and that girl."
"Well, Sakura," he stressed her name, "and I are currently dating, as I assume you heard yesterday."
"How could you do this Sasuke?!"
"Do what!?" he responded immediately, "What exactly am I doing that is so wrong?"
"You're associating-"
"I'm dating," he corrected.
"-That outcast!" she yelled, "Do you have any idea of how damaging she will be to your social standing!?"
"Hey, look Ino, Ino," he waved his hand for emphasis, "I don't care."
"She will ruin you!" she yelled, "And in turn she'll ruin us! Don't we matter to you, or has cover girl clouded your vision!"
"What exactly is your problem with her?" Sasuke asked suddenly, "Because a fucking hood rule is little to absolutely nothing to hate someone for!"
Ino stood dumb founded, Sasuke could tell there was something more. And if he knew Ino as much as he thought he did, whatever the reason was clearly a blow on her ego. Seeing no answer from the baffled blonde Sasuke turned his gaze to the person that would know exactly what happened and would say so without a care.
"Shikamaru," Sasuke said sternly, "What happened?"
Shikamaru had settled to sitting on a near by bench alongside the school's main building. With his usual bored expression he began, "She just got hissy after noticing how much attention Sai was giving the new girl when she transferred."
"Shikamaru!" Ino yelled.
Sasuke drowned out the blonde yelling about how it wasn't any of Shikamaru's business to say anything about Sai. Someone else kept an eye on Sakura, someone else was fascinated by her… this unsettled him in more ways than he would admit.
"Sai was interested in Sakura?" Naruto asked, "Why didn't you say anything?!"
"Because this one," Shikamaru pointed at the still seething girl being held back once again by Kiba, "said otherwise, and no one ever directly asked what was up with her attitude."
Naruto pouted, turning his head towards Sasuke, he noticed how serious his expression had become, which oddly made him remember another little fact, "Weren't you and Sai dating at the time?" Naruto asked Ino.
"We still are!" she shouted.
Naruto could now fully understand. The great, ever-confident Ino was jealous. Jealous of a girl who no one had seen the face of. Yet this faceless girl was getting a good deal of her boyfriend's attention. But still.
"If you're still together what's the po –"
"What kind of attention was Sai giving her?" Sasuke finally asked.
All eyes were on Sasuke and how his tone matched his serious frown.
Shikamaru spoke unaffected by his tone, "Just stares. When we were outside in the court yard he would keep an eye on her through the window, he'd watch as she walked through the halls and sometimes when we sat outside he would watch her as she waited for Kakashi to come out," he shrugged, "He tried to approach her once, but she ran. And that's when Ino saw and stopped him from running after her."
Ino tried to interrupt but a quick glare from Sasuke made her keep quiet, "Was that all?"
"Yeah, it was after that, that we were to no longer tolerate cover girl," he yawned and stretched before he continued, "I mean Sai graduated last year so I thought we were done with all that, but we all know for how long Ino can hold a grudge."
Sasuke took it all in. Sai was fascinated by Sakura and he would probably be in as deep as he was… had Ino not been there. He had heard of Sai from one of Naruto's phone calls, he described him as an "emotionlessly, sarcastic, grey bastard," who looked, "in a strange way" just like him. He had never met him face to face, but it seems like he would have to find him now. There were a few things he wanted to ask him.
Without another word, Sasuke turned and began to walk back.
"Sasuke! We're not done!" Ino yelled.
"Just stop already," Shikamaru called out, "You have no reason to hate Sakura, and I think I can speak for us all that we never really disliked her."
Ino had settled her breathing, before she faced Kiba, "I was just indifferent, whatever was up with her I didn't really care."
And then to Hinata who had stayed quiet the whole time, her wide pale eyes were enough to tell her that hating Sakura was something she was incapable of. She was just all innocence.
Ino turned towards Naruto who was facing her as well, "Just let it die, Ino," he walked towards Hinata, giving her a light kiss on her forehead, "I'll see you later," he murmured to her, before running after Sasuke who was now out of sight.
.
.
.
Sasuke quickly walked through the still pretty bare hallways. This was a new development that he wasn't prepared for, and in some way he was glad for this… but more than that he needed to ask Sakura a few things and he couldn't figure out why he was on edge on this.
He slowly opened the classroom door and saw both father and daughter each in their desks, nose deep into their books. He walked towards Sakura and his joining desks, "We need to talk," he murmured quietly next to her desk.
"Oh no, this sounds like a break up," how she was able to make her soft quiet voice sarcastic was beyond him, "I have been dreading this day for so long," regardless she quietly stood, her head slightly bowed as she walked passed her father's desk.
"Don't be late," Kakashi called out. Sasuke met his tired gaze and notice the concern in them. He offered him a small nod as reassurance.
They walked silently towards the roof. Pretty much the only place they can talk in private.
.
.
.
"What did your over dramatic friend do?" Sakura asked once they reached the roof top.
They faced each other, and Sasuke's expression didn't go unnoticed by Sakura which caused her to frown, which only deepened when he began to walk towards her.
Sasuke stepped forward, lifting his arms slowly until they grasped her hood. He slowly pushed her hood back enough for him to see her face, letting his hands linger on her head for a while longer.
"It was our deal," he murmured as he watched her questioning wide eyes.
Once his arms dropped, Sakura took a small step back. Showing her face was still a struggle, she had to remind herself constantly that it was just Sasuke, he was the only one she would ever allow to see herself. Now she watched as he continued to stare at her, with that same expressionless gaze. He wasn't even really looking at her, his eyes were lost in his thoughts.
"Sasuke, what's wrong?" She asked, a little concerned.
It was a long second before he spoke, "Do you remember a Sai?"
Sai? She thought, tilting her head in confusion. Sasuke realized that she wouldn't have known anyone last year.
"Another guy last year," he said quickly.
Quickly going over her memory she finally remembered the possible Sai, "There was a guy who tried to approach me last year, and as I did to you, I ran," she explained calmly.
"That's the only thing you remember?"
She nodded.
That's it? Sasuke thought. She didn't know how much attention Sai was giving her. And just realizing that made him even more unsettled.
"You," he took a step back, "You need to be more aware of your surroundings!"
Sakura frowned, "Excuse me?"
"Clearly you don't realize how much attention you attract!" he waved a hand towards her, "Which doesn't surprise me since you can hardly see through that hood!"
"Now hold on a second! What does this have to do with anything?"
"It has to do with the fact that you practically had a stalker all last year and didn't realize it!"
"What do you mean a stalker?!"
"A stalker! As in one who stalks!"
"Why would anyone stalk me?"
He let out a humorless laugh, "Oh I wouldn't know you know other than the fact that you're practically a walking mystery!"
"It's not my problem if someone can't control their curiosity," she looked pointedly at Sasuke, "Now stop yelling because it sounds like you're trying to tell me to be weary of people like you, which is meaningless at this point," she crossed her arms.
Sasuke took a long breath of air. He needed to relax, "Look, I'm just saying that you need to take care of yourself, last year luckily nothing happened. This year, aside from a few injuries," he lightly grazed Sakura's still bruised cheek, "I was able to protect you enough, but I'm not always going to be there," his eyes and fingers lingered on her injuries.
"You seem to be doing a great job at always being around," she said quietly as she slowly pulled his hand away.
He let his hand drop to his side but his eyes remained on her, only shifting to look carefully into her eyes.
"That's just good timing," he muttered, placing his hand into his pockets, "Seriously though, I need you to be more attentive, someone almost yanked off your hood yesterday for crying out loud."
She rolled her eyes, "That was your fault," she began to playfully pace, "Last year there were talks about de-hoodifying me," she tapped her chin mindfully, "But nothing really happened, and now the year you transferred in, I've been beaten, de-hooded, attempted to be de-hooded, and the center of gossip… and there's not even a full month of school left."
He let his eyes travel to the sky, "Didn't realize I made your life more lively," his tone ever so apologetic.
She gave him a small side-smile, "Now I wouldn't say that," her face dropping to her usual business face, "But I do expect you to fix it."
He let a smirk return to his lip, his head still up towards the clouds, "We'll see."
.
.
.
Naruto over heard everything.
He almost jumped out to make the bastard lower his voice, that he shouldn't being yelling at his beloved cousin. But hearing Sakura raising her voice back at Sasuke made him relax a bit. If he didn't know any better he would assume that Sasuke was showing some signs of jealousy. He let out a quiet chuckle. He was enjoying this more than he should; after all it had to do with his best friend possibly hooking up with his only cousin. But he couldn't get enough of them. It was amusing, watching them gradually getting closer to the other without them even realizing it.
They were so unaware of it right now if anything they would need a push, something so they could finally realize what was happening –
"Dobe."
Naruto looked up seeing Sasuke at the doorframe a slight glare on his face, "Ah, h-hey teme, I was just coming to tell you that –"
"Forget it," Sasuke interrupted, as Sakura slid through him and the doorframe.
"I'll be going first then," she said quietly, continuing on her way down the steps, her hood firmly in place.
"See you Sakura-chan!" Naruto called out.
He turned back to Sasuke who continued to hold that glare, "I'm sorry but I didn't want to interrupt –"
"Naruto," he called out again.
Instantly Naruto shut his mouth.
"I want you to tell me where Sai is," he said stiffly, having Naruto raise a questioning brow at his dark haired friend.
Apparently he was wrong, they won't need much of a push, they would just need a Sasuke.

It has been a long time I know… I can't even begin to say how sorry I am. But life and procrastination is a hard thing to avoid. Sigh. But yeah I will still continue this story for its been my priority among the stories I have… and another that I'm currently writing and wondering whether or not I should post it… I'll let it develop more.
But for now here's this, and again I'm sorry for the 3 year (?) wait for this.
Bare with me,
