Recall: "Come on honey, get your coat."

"What's the matter?" Izayoi stopped for a second, trying to compose herself.

"Inuyasha's being arrested." Kagome stumbled a bit.

"W-what?"

"That was the assistant principal. They took him into custody a few minutes ago."

"For what?"

"Assault and kidnapping." Her jaw dropped, immediately rushing to get her shoes and coat. Tears couldn't help but to sting her eyes. She knew this was too easy. She knew that those bastards were going to make things difficult for her, now they've roped Inuyasha into this mess. This whole event was making her understandably upset and noticeably shaken. To come so far and it was about to be pulled from her. She was just so…

Frustrated

Angry

…Defeated

She was starting to lose faith…

Chapter 11: How to Try

Izayoi picked up the speed, as they raced to the police station. Shippo was left at the neighbors, his young eyes have seen enough trauma, this would just upset him more. No words were exchanged during the car ride. The amount of rage that was in Kagome's heart, no words could express. It was more then obvious those two monsters had something to do with Inuyasha's arrest. But why the police went on arresting Inuyasha without any evidence or a statement from the supposed victim, she didn't understand. Hm…probably Onigumo's influence. She thought to herself, fidgeting around in her seat. I can't believe this is happening. Her discomfort was starting to get the attention of Izayoi.

"Dearest, I wish you would just calm down." She spoke softly, trying to relax Kagome as best she could. "I'm sure it's a big misunderstanding. We'll figure this out."

"This is just so frustrating." Kagome said, tears starting to swell. "Every time, I think I've escaped from them, they manage to get me back again and again. And now, I'm about to be forced back-"

"No…" Izayoi interrupted. "You mustn't think like that."

"Why not?" Kagome snapped, not meaning to seem disrespectful, but the situation was becoming over-whelming. "Every time I tried leaving, they pushed me right back. Why would this be any different from the others?

"How many times have you tried to run from them." She scoffed.

"Too many to count. They plant it like I'm a brat, so the cops have no choice but to return me." Izayoi shook her head.

"No, there's no reason why child protective services wouldn't get involved. Trouble child, or not. Something has to be going on at the station." She placed her hand on Kagome's leg, giving her a reassuring grip. "Don't you worry. We won't let them take you from us." The young girl nodded slightly, still a bit defeated from the position she was put into. There was a little part of her that remained hopeful. Maybe they were able to get her out of this predicament. Or maybe she just put the entire family in jeopardy. No way she wanted any of them to end up like her mother. At the same time, she'd rather die than to go back to that hell house.

But will I have to go back?

Meanwhile, Inuyasha was in the police station. The whole thing was outrageous to say the least. Coming into his class and arresting him like he was some sort of criminal. The whole school was going to have a field day with that one. Rumors were probably going to spread like wild fire as soon as the bell rings. Whatever happens, he honestly didn't care. Just if at the end of the day, Kagome wasn't forced back into that situation. I'll never let them take her again. Inuyasha promised in his head. What the hell is taking them so long?

He turned and looked at the annoying party. Naraku looked all to happy to explain to the officer what happened. Acting as if Inuyasha was a deranged psychopath that just attacks families and kidnaps women. Onigumo was also playing the victim. Soon, two officers approached Inuyasha, both sitting across from him. Onigumo and Naraku standing next to them, smirking as if they have a leg up on the situation.

"So, explain what it was that happened again." Officer Ito said, making Inuyasha roll his eyes in annoyance.

"Agh, for the 100th time, my girlfriend was being attacked by this tragedy you call a family, my demon took over to save her. She'd probably be dead if I didn't step in. I don't know what you aren't understanding."

"Hey kid…" Officer Yamamoto started. "That's enough with that attitude of yours. Can't you see you're in serious trouble." Inuyasha scoffed.

"I'm about to be in even more trouble if you don't get this spider out of my face." He intimidated.

"Honestly…" Naraku started. "My sister was gone all hours of the night, she was being punished when this idiot comes and attacks my father and I." He runs his fingers through his hair, playing the act as if he's worried sick.

"As you can see, my son and I are very worried for her safety." Onigumo looks to Inuyasha, who's looks as if he could kill them right there. "Please, just tell me where my daughter is, and we'll drop all the charges."

"Ya, so worried. that it took you until now to have my ass arrested. You know where I am, why did it take you two weeks to do something?"

"Excuse me, kid. Leave the interrogations to me." Officer Yamamoto demanded. Inuyasha was starting to not like this guy. Bull demon, trying to establish who the tough guy was in this situation. Of course, he could take him on any time.

"Maybe I would if you were doing your job properly."

"See what I mean?" Naraku exclaimed. "No respect for authority. This is the type of scum my little sister has been hanging around."

"Alright…alright…" Ito started, trying to smooth out the fighting so he could get to the bottom of this. "Yamamoto, can you take the Kurosawa's away so we can get to the bottom with this."

"Gladly…I'm sick of dealing with this joker." Ito shook his head as Yamamoto walked off with the two men. The hell is that guys problem? Inuyasha asked himself, glaring a hole at the back of the cop's head. He crossed his arms, his ears perking up listening in to the conversation of the liars. The office was loud but having dog demon genes had its benefits.

"Again, with this Onigumo?" The sorry excuse for a cop said. "I thought the situation was under control."

"It was until this fucking beast showed up. Bruised us both up and everything." Inuyasha smirked.

"Well what now? Just forget the girl."

"You know we very well can't do that." Naraku said. Pacing the floor. "She'll go running her mouth any day. And there's so much that my little present can do." Inuyasha looked puzzled. What present is he talking about? "There's too much on the line at this point. Not only with her, but her mother." That made him curious. Just what did he mean about Kagome's mother?

"Look it's one thing if this is some bitch no one gives a crap again. But, now other people are starting to get involved."

"Pfft, he was warned about the consequences of his actions. What happens to him now is his problem."

"We'll give you and your buddies another donation. Just bring her back and keep this whole thing quiet." Onigumo said. The cop cleared his throat.

"There…uh…might be something else I need. Being the one that cleans up all the mess."

"Oh…an increase in payment?" Inuyasha's ear tweaked a few more times, not liking where this was going.

"That girl of yours if causing more and more trouble around here, and it's my ass on the line every time. I think maybe she should personally apologize to me. If you catch my drift." The half demon's eyes flashed in anger. Being an asshole cop was one thing, but this guy was a crooked as a cop would get. He knew perfectly well what those two scum bags were doing to his mate, and now this guy wants in.

"Hey kid you are feeling okay?" Ito asked, looking up from is computer. But, Inuyasha was so enthralled by the conversation, the last thing he was doing was paying attention to the cop in front of him. Onigumo smirked, nodding his head a few times.

"We'll discuss it later. Once we're done with her, she'll only be useful for market. We got her in a zombie state before, we can do it again. For now, get rid of the mutt." With eyes now red, he bolted from his seat, stomping his way towards the sick group. Yamamoto noticed this and put his hands up.

"Hey dog, we're still talking here-"

"You fucking think about touching her and I'll rip your arms out!" He threatened, his demon starting to surface. He went to attack when several officers came and held him down, not understanding his situation but only seeing a crazed half demon starting to lose control. Yamamoto smirked, underestimating the boy.

"Ito, we're gonna have to arrest this kid." He said, beckoning other officers to come help.

"What? On what grounds?" Ito asked, obviously confused.

"You had better, cause I'm about to snap your fucking neck." He growled, one of his arms breaking free. However, his movements were stopped again by more officers, pinning him to a wall.

"What? That doesn't make any-"

"Threatening an officer, this boy is clearly reckless. There's no telling what he did to that poor girl." Naraku nodded his head, glad his father's 'influence' was able to help them out yet again.

"Yamamoto, he's a kid. We didn't call his parents yet. And you of all people should know a demon doesn't lose control over anything."

"Ya, but this is a half breed. Unstable."

"This is going too-"

"Hey…don't forget your place rookie." Officer Ito stayed silent.

"Get off of him!" They heard a voice, some of the officers were being pushed away. "Inuyasha are you alright?" She asked, making him stop his movements.

"Kagome…" She placed a hand on his cheek, instantly reverting his eyes back to its original color.

"What are you doing here?" He asked, pulling his arms from the remaining cops so hold her. Protect…must protect… He demon side kept chanting, forcing him to shake his head to clear his thoughts.

"This is my fault. I'm sorry I got you involved."

"Kagome sweetie, there you are." She gasped, looking over to see that 'wonderful' family of hers. For some reason it didn't register in her mind that they would be here. The angry expressions on their faces were undeniable. Her heart started to race as they began to approach. "We were worried sick."

"Don't touch her!" Inuyasha shouted. Unable to control himself, he went to attack but was stopped again by the cops, this time walking away from the alleged victim. Kagome shivered in fear, as she was now out in the open, with no boyfriend to protect her. The look in Naraku's eyes had Kagome absolutely petrified.

"Darling, it's time to come home now." He went to step closer, to which Izayoi blocked his way.

"Get away from her." She demanded, pulling Kagome behind her.

"Oh? You must be Inuyasha's mother." Naraku said, putting on his teacher persona. "I'm sure you of all people can understand how worried my father and I were of my little sister. Thank you so much for looking after her. But she really needs to come home now."

"Save it!" She said, not buying the act. This had him baffled. "I already have picture evidence of what you have done to her." She stated calmly. "There's not a chance in this lifetime I'm letting you anywhere near her again." Naraku's smirk immediately disappeared. Onigumo pulled his son to the side, now standing eye to eye with her.

"Surely you are mistaken, Miss. I would never harm my daughter."

"I'm a doctor. The evidence speaks for itself. Fresh bruises over healed ones, she was underweight when she arrived in my care and her education level is lacking. Yet, your son looks as if he's healthy and well taken care of so that obviously means he had something to do with this. It's clear that she is a victim of an abusive household. We will be pressing charges against you and your sorry excuse for a son." She stepped closer to him. "You'll never put your hands on her ever again." Onigumo laughed amusingly.

"I don't think… you have any idea who you're fucking dealing with."

"You come in many forms, but a snake is still a snake." He smirked. Yamamoto cleared his throat getting their attention.

"I'm glad you're here, ma'am. Now that we see the victim is safe, she's going to have to go back to her family."

"Please, Ms. Izayoi, don't let them take me!" She begged as an officer came to escort her and the Kurosawa's off the premises.

"Officer Yamamoto." Onigumo started. "I want a restraining order against these people. Clearly, they've influenced my daughter and I don't like it. If they come near her again, I want them arrested."

"I'll get the paper work done immediately."

"You stupid fools!" Inuyasha lashed out, forcing the cops off him. "I'll be damned if I let you take her from me!" Inuyasha exclaimed, pushing the cop away from Kagome, holding onto her desperately to which she did much of the same.

"This is getting ridiculous." Ito said, walking up to the victim, not really understanding the situation. "Look miss, I can see that his family took very good care of you. And it's safe to say your boyfriend didn't kidnap you. But don't you think you're taking this a little far? Just go home, and I'm sure you can talk this out calmly and rationally." Kagome's jaw dropped in disbelief. She understood the cop didn't know what was going on, and of course the two played it off like they were a good family.

"You don't understand." Inuyasha spoke up. "If you let her go back, they're going to fucking kill her."

"Okay, that's a little much kid."

"Are you kidding me?" She asked. "He's the one that killed my…" Her words were suddenly stopped by a sharp pain in her stomach. She clutched herself as if to suppress the burning sensation.

"Kagome? Baby are you okay?" Inuyasha asked, seeing there was obviously something wrong. She covered her mouth, the burning sensation now reaching her throat.

"Hey what's going on-" Ito started to ask but was abruptly caught off by Kagome throwing up what looked to be black sludge. It had a moldy texture mixed in with blood. "Oh God, medic!" The officer called out, not seeing anything like this.

"What the fuck is this?!" Inuyasha shouted, helping Kagome sit down while Izayoi was left speechless.

"Stay right here. I'll grab you some water." Ito said, walking off still asking for assistance, the other officers scattering off aside from Yamamoto. A devious Naraku slowly strolled where Kagome was, amused at the direction things were going.

"Kagome darling…were you getting ready to say something?" He asked as if he was concerned. "I thought you were going to reveal our little secret." Her eyes widened, looking at him in disbelief.

"W-what did you do to me?"

"Call it a bit of insurance. In case you…slip up." Kagome's lip quiver. She always thought that Naraku would hurt her if she ever tried to expose them, but to manipulate her body so that she couldn't address the situation, she absolutely wasn't expecting. There was no way she could ever get justice for her mother at this point. She was starting to feel hopeless. Izayoi rubbed her head as Inuyasha stepped up in front of Naraku.

"You must have a death wish."

"You don't scare me dog."

"He's in no position to threaten anyone. We still have a few charges on him." Yamamoto said confidently.

"I don't think so." A voice interrupted. Kagome looked over to see Inutashio as well as a gentleman that she's never seen before. Seeing that he too, had long silver hair, she could only deduce that he was related.

"So glad you can join us, Sesshomaru." Inuyasha said sarcastically. Sesshomaru shout him a glare, obviously not amused with this entire situation.

"I'll take care of you later." He threatened before bringing his attention to the police officer.

"Judge Takahashi…" The Yamamoto said nervously. "And Sesshomaru. What can I do you for?"

"Here to represent my client, who is also my stupid brother who I can only guess has gotten himself into a real predicament." Inuyasha growled.

"Wait, this kid is your sibling?" The officer asked, realizing he might have put himself in a jam messing with the half dog constantly. "Which would also make him-"

"My son…yes." Inutashio finished. "And I hope you haven't made him feel uncomfortable in any way, for your sake." He gulped.

"Son or not…" Onigumo started. "He not only attacked my son and I, but also kidnapped my daughter. That's more than enough for me to press charges."

"Officer, there is no grounds for arrest." Sesshomaru said, ignoring Onigumo completely. "My client was just protecting his mate." Kagome shot Izayoi a confused look, to which she held a finger up to her mouth, indicating to stay quiet.

"Mate, what kind of nonsense are you talking about?" Onigumo asked? Still ignoring him, Sesshomaru went into his bag, bringing out paperwork, handing it to the officer.

"Clause #87 in the demon handbook. If a demon senses threat against his/her mate, it is considered as self-defense and is not actionable as far as arrest is concern. Following that, clause #105, you should know this being a demon yourself, when a mating bond is established, the party are well within their right to mate, live together and start a pack. Depending on the country, the legal age may vary given that sometimes mates are humans and human parents are a bit more skeptical when it comes to this situation. In Japan the legal age is 16. My client is 18 while his mate is 17. This law has been in affect since 1953 therefore if she wishes, she can choose to live with her mate regardless of the…" He looked at the Kurosawa's in disgust. "…family thinks." Onigumo looked flabbergasted while Naraku was angry. A fling sure, but he would have never imagined that Kagome was his intended.

"This is absurd." Onigumo asserted.

"We've been practicing this way of life for more than half a century. The law works, but I'm sure you wouldn't understand, being that you are a human." He growled.

"Yamamoto get this guy out of my face and let me leave with my daughter. I've entertained this long enough." He was confused when the officer just stood there.

"I'm sorry Onigumo…there's nothing I can do."

"What?"

"He's right? By law, I can't touch her and he can't be charged." He was furious.

"I see…I'd like to talk to my daughter then. Since she won't be coming home."

"Very well. You two can talk in the back office."

"Please don't leave me alone with him." She whispered.

"I'll go with you." Inuyasha said, clutching onto her shoulders. Yamamoto allowed them to enter, refusing to look at Inuyasha, knowing he could get into trouble for what he said. He closed the door behind them. Once the door was closed, Onigumo glared at Kagome, seething in anger.

"You think you've won, don't you?" Kagome stayed silent and Inuyasha growled. "You think I'm just gonna allow this don't you."

"And what are you gonna do old man?"

"I-I won't say anything. There are so many things that you've done, but I promise I won't utter another word about it. Please…just stop this." She begged a few tears dropping from her eyes. This only made Onigumo angrier.

"You can't escape your share of the blame, Missy." She looked at him with much confusion.

"What are you talking about?"

"You're the little temptress that bewitched my son. He was always a good boy until you came along and coaxed him to behave reprehensibly."

"W-what?" He was blaming her again. She remembered he acted that way when confronted by her mother, but did he really believe what he was saying.

"You're the reason why your mother is dead." She gasped, how could he say something like that, knowing he was the one that committed the action. "This whole situation is your fault."

"Shut up!" She screamed. "You creepy…sick…disgusting piece of shit!" She ran out the room, to which he was going to go after her when Inuyasha stepped in his way.

"Keeping her all to yourself, huh?" Onigumo taunted. "Have fun for now. She knows how to keep things entertaining." Inuyasha's eyes flashed a few times as he felt his demon beginning to surface once more. He knew what he was doing. He was trying to make him lose control. But right now, Kagome needed him, and losing it will just make her more upset.

"I'm warning you. Stay away from her or no number of cops can save you from what I'll do to you." Inuyasha walked out as Naraku entered. They glared at each other as the half dog demon left the scene. Naraku approached his father.

"Well now what. His family obviously has a bigger influence with the police than we do. There's not enough money that'll help us now."

"Oh? You forget, I don't need these incompetent cops to get what I want." He nodded his head. "I'll make a few calls, see what I can do. We'll get her back…and we'll make sure she won't go blabbing her mouth anymore."

Kagome and the Tashio's walked out of the police station. Izayoi was holding her while rubbing her shoulders. After what she went through, she was surprised she wasn't having an anxiety attack. Slowly, Kagome was starting to relax. She was glad to be away from those bastards for now but there were still so many questions she had. Mainly, her and Inuyasha were mates? They barely became boyfriend and girlfriend and now there was discussions about an eternal bond. Still, she kept quiet. Anything to get away from her precious family. She was sure Inuyasha would want to discuss it privately. Once they reached the parking lot, Sesshomaru precipitously turned around and punched Inuyasha in the jaw, making Kagome gasp in shock as he fell to the ground.

"Ah! What the fuck?!" He said, holding onto his chin as Kagome ran over to him.

"Inuyasha are you okay?" She asked, not expecting this kind of action in the least.

"Sesshomaru, what are you doing?" Inutashio asked, not the least bit amused. He could tell his son was holding back, but that didn't get him the right to assault his younger brother.

"You really had me come and clean up this fools mess? And this is all for a filthy human? I would think there was enough in our family." Izayoi gave a defeatist sigh while Kagome was taken back. Was this really the same guy that helped her out of her situation in the station? She knew about Inuyasha bad mouthing his brother, but she never really understood the reason why. She never thought that he was a demonic traditionalist. A guy like this, she was surprised he could practice law, being that he was biased. "Father, it appears that my little brother will make the same mistake as you. I'd prefer if I wasn't apart of it. So please…don't waste my time any further."

"Silence, boy! Know your place. Whatever ridiculous beliefs you may have is already disappointing, but right now is not the time nor the place to discuss your opinions. She is part of our family, so you will accept her as such."

"This family is becoming more and more deluded as time goes on. They're weak and smell revolting. I refuse to take part of it."

"Well you have no choice. Sooner your instincts will kick in and you'll back to your intended. And she was such a sweet girl too." Kagome looked confused. Was his intended a human as well? How did this intended situation work anyways?

"Father …never mention her in my presence again. She's not my intended, she was never my intended, and I will not subjugate myself to that filth ever again."

"You challenge me, son?" He asked, stepping up to him.

"Hm…" He didn't answer, only went to his car, driving off to leave them in their thoughts.

"Asshole." Inuyasha said, getting up, groaning in pain.

"Are you sure you're okay?" Kagome asked, to which he nodded in response. "What was that?"

"That's his older brother, Sesshomaru." Izayoi answered, still a bit bothered with what he said.

"As you can probably guess, he's not too fond of humans. And his ego can't accept the fact that I'm a 'disgusting half breed.'"

"I knew he was displeased with me…" Izayoi started. "…But I thought he would have grown out of it by now. It's been over twenty years." Inutashio sighed.

"He might be 45, but he still is a boy." Kagome looked confused.

"I'm shocked, he could easily pass for Inuyasha's age." She said, making Inuyasha huff in annoyance.

"It's been a long day." Inutashio sighed. "We best make our way home." Kagome smiled softly. The realization dawned on her that she didn't have to go back to that house. She was welcomed to stay with a loving family and an overly protective boyfriend which she didn't mind at all. She was happy she could stay safe. Still, in the back of her mind there was a nagging voice saying it wasn't going to last for long.

A few hours since everything transpired. Kagome stayed in her room, not really wanting to be bothered. Everything was still replaying in her mind. Even though she was in a secure environment, she was sure that she was never going to escape this. She remembered all the times she ran away but was still forced to go back to that hell hole. She could recall she made it all the way to Osaka, and yet she was still caught and forced to go back.

"What's the point anymore?" She asked herself, tears stinging her eyes. "And they know where I am, so it's only a matter of time before they try and come and get me." Sure, Sesshomaru helped them out once, but she wasn't sure she wanted his help again. Especially if he was going to hit Inuyasha every time he gets involved.

And then what?

Just continuously waiting for Naraku and Onigumo to make a move before they get what they want. They know I'm here…if I leave now…They'll lose track of me…She slowly got from her bed. Grabbing a bag, she started pulling her clothes from her draws. Somewhere far…I'll change my name and the color of my hair…They only found me because I didn't change my appearance.

"Kagome honey, dinner is ready." She ignored the voice calling out to her, continuing to pack her bag. She was almost in a trance at this point, not really paying attention to her surroundings.

"Inuyasha, can you get her please. Something hot will cheer her up."

"Sure…" He knocked a few times before entering. "Hey, are you deaf? Mom called-" He stopped, looking to see Kagome packing her stuff. "What are you doing?"

"Thank you so much for your help. But…" Her lip quivered. "I have to get out of here." He sneered.

"Don't be stupid. This is as safe as anyone's going to get." She ignored him, continuing to put more stuff in her bag, this time more determined. He'll be in even more trouble. I don't want them hurting him. "And where would you go?"

"I don't know. Somewhere they can't find me."

"If that bastards going to keep coming while you're here, what makes you think he won't come after if he finds out you left…cut it out!" He shouted, grabbing her arms, ceasing her movements.

"You don't understand." Kagome said, her voice cracking. "Every fucking time, I think I'm free from them, something happens where I have to go back. The longest I've been from them was a month. We barely got past 3 weeks and they tried to get me back. I can't even tell anyone what it is they did to me or what happened in the past cause they literally have silenced me. What they did to the only family I had left. They will NEVER be punished for their sins. Having this knowledge, I've accepted it, as much as it pains me. I just want to be left alone, and even that's not good enough…I'm done. I can't do this anymore…I can't let them take me…I…I…"

"Kagome…Please…" Inuyasha pleaded with his soon to be mate, clutching her shoulders desperately. "I'm sure it hurts, and I really wish I knew the whole story. But, trust me. They will pay for everything that they've done. I will protect you, I promised you that. You just have to trust me."

"I-I do trust you."

"Do you? Cause it doesn't sound like it?" She took in a deep breath.

"I trust you… I trust you…"

"Then stop all this and let me protect you. You can't handle this by yourself. Mentally and physically you aren't strong enough. That's why I'm here…to keep you safe…please." She smiled softly, wiping her eyes. Of course, he knew what to say to calm her down. Every time he would touch her, she would feel so relaxed, as if it was meant to be. He made her feel like everything was going to be alright, just with a few calm words and gentle strokes.

If he could make feel like everything was right in the with a few strokes and caresses. If he was going to help her with the events that were going on, the least she could do was accept the help. In the long run, everything might work out.

Might

But it might not.

Still, she was going to try and push forward.

Do forgive me for taking an eternity. Life has been happening and it's hard juggling everything.

In any case…wow…a lot has been happening huh? Kagome was able to escape from her abusive family. But what happened to her that she's not able to tell her secret?

We're finally introduce to Sesshomaru, and he's a mouth full.

How long do you think before Kagome is forced to go back?
