Disclaimer - I don't own Avatar: The Last Airbender. This was written for the Froday Winter Calendar 2022 for day two prompt "snowball fight" and this is what I came up with.

Not A Snowball Chance

Cold. Wet. Everything that a Firebender didn't like.

In one quick moment, everything hit him square in the face, chilling the cheekbones or the cheekbone that hadn't been scarred by his own father's hand. And wetness dripped down into the warm coat that he'd been provided by Sokka and Katara, sending a shudder down his spine, which was nowhere near the cold wetness now plaguing him. And he certainly wasn't sure how he felt about the whole thing.

"Zuko," Katara called out. "You're supposed to join in."

"Join in what?" Zuko responded. "I'm baffled as to what is going on here." He reached up, brushing or perhaps warming the snow away from his face, scowling at the rest of Aang's group.

"A snowball fight, silly," Sokka said while Aang tried giving him the widest, most enormous eyes he could, which the young Avatar did whenever he wanted something from someone, and yet Zuko wasn't phased.

"A what?"

And then an avalanche of snow hit him, knocking him backward as Toph laughed at him, probably holding her sides like she always did—not that he could see with all of the snow in his face and not with how she'd—and Zuko was sure of this—buried him by using the ground to attack him with snow. He lay there, stunned and confused, unsure of what to think regarding the situation. Nor did he know what to do.

"Toph! That's cheating!" Katara complained.

"Well, it's not as if I can see!"

"Liar! You can see just fine with your feet that you didn't want to bundle up so you wouldn't be at a disadvantage."

Zuko sat up, brushing the snow away before standing up, his mouth twisted into a scowl as he walked over, his eyes on Toph's feet and how—he couldn't help but feel Toph was hiding just how cold she was, nor could the cold be good for her feet. "Perhaps we could find something else to do?"

"Why?" Aang said, pouting. "Snowball fights are fun!"

"That," Zuko said. "I wouldn't know."

"Because you're not trying and looking for an excuse not to try," Sokka said, sighing and throwing another snowball at Zuko's face.

Zuko didn't respond verbally, instead pointing at Toph. "Hey. No," she complained, realizing what he was doing through her feet. "We shouldn't stop the fun just because of me."

"Your feet are how you see," Zuko said. "That means you should take care of them. But why did any of you agree to…."

And then, something cold went down his spine, something that wasn't a chill running down the spine but a real chill, and he spun around to see Momo looking somewhat guilty at him as the lemur stuffed snow down Zuko's shirt. "Okay. Who put you up to that, Momo?" Zuko said, gently lifting the fury creature up so he could cradle him in his arms. He rubbed Momo's tummy while looking at the others. "Like, really? I get how this can be fun, but Toph's feet."

Toph let out a sigh, stepping over, or more of stomping around, grabbing onto his arm as she did so. "Okay. We'll go inside so you can warm up, Sparky, since you don't like the cold."

And there he was, being dragged by the young Earthbender into the house, a furry lemur in the other hand. He spoke softly. "It did look like fun, although I don't know how long I'd last or if I'd be any good at it."

"You can stop pretending this wasn't done for my sake," Toph said. "Can you start a fire, Sparky? Don't tell the others going out in the snow barefoot was a bad idea." And then a grin spread across her face. "It was fun, though, to feel the snow with my feet again. Last time I got snatched back inside."

Zuko stoked the fire that was already going inside, smiling at her. "It's not a bad thing, snow. If someone could explain this snowball fight to me, I might try it sometime."

"Really, Sparky?" Toph shook her head. "I can see you're smiling, though."

"Good to hear that your feet are doing just fine," Zuko said.

"Wait. Sparky? Did you make a joke?"

"Yeah. I think I did."
