Chapter 19: The Blossom Festival
"I am going to kill whoever thought I would look good in this." grumbles Elias. He was dressed in a black-and-red Ionian outfit that that was decorated with pink flowers and the Ionian symbol for peace. To him it heavily resembled a large kimono from his world which made the Judge shake his head at the similarities between his world and this one. "Seriously. I look like a giant walking, talking rug in this thing. And the damn thing is starting to get itchy as hell too!" Elias complained. His complaining was met with Irelia with a slight smirk on her face, smacking him upside the head with a large fan. "Be nice, Elias. Riven is the one who picked that one out for you." the Ionian teased. She is met with a punch to the arm as Riven glares daggers at her, "You weren't supposed to tell him!" Her face was now red from embarrassment which only made Irelia chuckle some more and back away. "Sorry! It just seemed like a good idea in the moment, you know?" the Ionian tells the flustered ex-Noxian, cracking a smile while she does so.
"Where the hell is this place again Irelia? Also... is uh Zed going to be there?" Elias asks, the last part sounding like he was kind of worried. "Uh... maybe? I mean he may be one of Ionia's greatest enemies, but the Blossom Festival welcomes everyone." Irelia replies confusedly. He just shakes his head and chuckles nervously from his encounter with Zed at the restaurant, "Just curious is all." She nods her head before turning to the others and starts going over the basics of the festival. While they were all listening to Irelia, Elias summons a portal and steps through it, appearing in a dense forest miles away from Irelia's home. "You know why I'm here so let me talk to him." he says aloud. Two figures fell from the trees and looked up at the Judge, "I suggest you leave before you are killed for trespassing."
Elias' face turned into a shocked expression as he was met with two of Zed's followers instead of who he was originally supposed to meet. "Oh I uh... um... Well this is awkward. I thought I went to the right... ah, nevermind! Well I'll be going now." he says hastily before summoning another portal and reappearing in a forest clearing this time. Once he appeared again he looks around before calling out, "Ok, please tell me there's a lighting Yordle and a ninja lady out here!" Some leaves rustle from the nearby bushes and Akali and Kennen appear out from behind them. "Lightning Yordle? Really?" Kennen says in an annoyed manner. Elias simply shrugs and raises his hands in an apologetic manner, "Sorry man. That's kinda what you are if I'm speaking honestly." Akali shakes her head slightly before turning her gaze towards the Judge. "Elias, what was so urgent that you needed to seek out our help for?" she asks him. "Right. I'd give you the whole spiel but its best to just simplify it: One of Xerath's men will be attending the festival and I need you two and Shen to keep an eye out for them. Stealthily of course." he explains to them.
Both members of the Kinkou Order look at each other and give a silent exchange before turning back to Elias. "Do you have any information on what this person should look like?" asks Kennen. Elias pulls out his phone and scrolls through some photos before showing it to them to reveal an elderly man carrying a jar that has a seal etched with runes on it. "They look like this." Akali takes the phone from Elias' hand and stares inquisitively at it before looking up at him, "What is this... thing?" Kennen also nods his head and looks up at the Judge for an answer. "Long story, but it is basically a machine that allows me to take photos of anything I can take a photo of. Think of it as a portable viewing screen like the ones in the Institute of War." he explains to them.
Both of the ninjas nod and look back at the Judge. "Anything else?" asks Akali. "Right, just a moment. There is one more thing." Elias says before pulling out a small parchment, "Give this to Shen. I think he'd want to take a look at this." Kennen takes it from his hand and looks over it before storing it in his robes. The Judge says his goodbyes to the two Kinkou ninjas before summoning a portal back to Irelia's house. "Sorry guys I had to-" Elias starts before he is tackled down to the ground by Annie. Riven walks into the room and crosses her arms upon spotting Elias, "There you are! Where the hell did you go?" He just chuckles at her remark before picking himself and Annie up. "I went back to the Institute cuz I forgot something." he lies. Elias didn't like lying to people but in this instance he had to, to not spoil their time at the festival and to keep what he was doing under wraps. "Enough chit-chat. Shall we head off to the festival now, it's nearly noon and we don't want to get there late now do we?" announces Irelia behind group agrees in full and they all get in two carriages before heading off to the Blossom Festival. On the way there the group passed by various villages and saw the beautiful scenery of Ionia.
Multicolored trees painted the landscape with various shades of red, green, orange, and pink, small creatures scurried about all around them, and the beautiful Ionian architecture resembled that of traditional Japanese architecture to Elias. A few hour pass before Annie starts to get restless and starts whining about how much longer the trip will be. Irelia explains how her home is a few hours away from where the Blossom Festival takes place which eases some of Annie's jitteriness but not enough to satisfy her. D'Art simply chuckled at this, and the fact that Irelia had left Elias and Riven with their own carriage which made the musketeer smile more at this.
In Riven and Elias' carriage, the silver-haired woman kept glancing over at the Judge nervously during the trip. He hadn't said a word since they both got into the carriage and kept his gaze out of the window and into the wilderness. She thought that maybe the whole idea of the festival had annoyed Elias and he wasn't going to talk to her, or maybe something else she did prompted him not to talk to her. Her occasional glances though let her examine Elias' appearance: the outfit he was wearing adorned him, and his shimmering black hair with slight tints of red accompanied his outfit perfectly. A few moments later their carriage hits a large bump that bounces Elias' side into the air slightly. After the carriage resettles, Riven is met with a hefty weight on her thighs. She looks down to see a sleeping Elias who is snoring peacefully on her lap.
She lets out a small "oh" as she realizes that he had been asleep this whole time. This makes Riven smile slightly as she looks down upon the Judge sleeping soundly. "Maybe... Well there isn't anyone around to see so, why the heck not?" Riven thinks to herself before slowly reaching down towards Elias' hair. She gently glides a single finger into his hair before the rest of her hand finds its way in. The softness of his hair surprises Riven as her hand is enveloped by all of it. She gives it a twirl between her more rough-feeling fingers and is in awe at how soft Elias' hair is. Minutes pass as Riven continues to play with the Judge's hair; switching between gently stroking it and entangling his ebony colored hair in her fingers.
Elias' face slowly morphed into a smile as she continued to play with his hair. Half an hour passed before the Judge began to stir from his nap. He stretches out his limbs and yawns silently before groggily looking at Riven. "Morning, Sunshine." she says with a small smile on her face. Elias looks outside before turning to Riven, "How long was I out for?" he says while stretching out his arms. "A few hours actually. You missed most of the trip here, it was quite beautiful." she replies while tucking her hair behind her ear. This made Elias unknowingly blush at her doing that, as he was a sucker for such a simple and somewhat cliché gesture; that and he had just gotten a good look at her and her outfit. "What? Is there something wrong Elias?" the silver-haired champion says while giggling. He shakes his head as he attempts to hide his face away from her. "I just noticed how beautiful you looked in your outfit. N-not that you're not beautiful a-all the time, I-I just..." he stutters nervously while sinking more into his seat.
Riven cocks her head to the side and looks at him curiously. She was in her outfit when he put his on, so why didn't he notice her then? "Wait, I thought you saw me wearing this at Irelia's house?" she asks him. He sighs and shakes his head, "I... ok promise you won't make fun of me?" The Exile nods her head confusedly before Elias turns around and opens up a small portal in front of him. He starts fiddling around with something and takes a deep breath. Elias turns around somewhat nervous to reveal him wearing a pair of thin, square-rimmed glasses. "I'm severely nearsighted, so anything past like... two feet in front of me is really blurry. I look kind of ridiculous with them, don't I?" the Judge explains, slightly embarrassed at the fact that someone as powerful as him can't even see properly without his glasses. "No I don't think that at all Elias. In fact, I think you look cuter with them on." Riven says with a small smile.
Elias' face lights up bright red at her remark and he turns around to hide his blushing face. She also slowly realizes what she had said and the Exile's cheeks also turned into a shade of crimson. An awkward silence fell upon the two of them before the carriage stops a few minutes later. "Looks like we're here" announced the Judge as he gets up from his seat. He was the first to exit the carriage and looks back at the still-blushing Riven with a small smile. "You still gonna be a blushing snow rabbit, or are you gonna come with?" he teases her. Her mood immediately brightens up at his comment and she gets up herself and exits the carriage with him. "Blushing snow rabbit?" she asks him while giving a small jab to his arm. The Judge shrugs and gestures to her facial features, "White hair, red eyes, blushing face? Sounds like a blushing snow rabbit to me."
They both laugh at the remark and meet up with the other three champions. "Welcome to the Blossom Festival!" announces Irelia with her arms spread open. The group of champions were met with the glorious sight of various stalls, activities, and of course the display of beautiful cherry blossom trees that blanketed the area. Annie's eyes widen at the sight and she squeals in delight. D'Artagnan also relishes in the display of colors and turns to Elias, "Zis is just like Japan back home, wouldn't you agree?" He nods in agreement before noticing the Kinkou ninjas up in the trees looking down at him. The Judge gives a small nod to them and they vanish from their original spots. "So Irelia, why don't you show us around the festival eh?" recommends the Judge to her.
The Ionian's eyes lit up and she began to excitedly show everyone around the festival grounds. She led them around the various stalls and explained what each was more or less. When the group passed by a long section of food stalls, a soft growling sound was heard among them. Irelia turned around to see D'Artagnan and Elias hungrily staring at the food stalls with their mouths drooling slightly. "It smells so good..." D'Art says to the Judge. He nods his head in agreement as his mouth starts to water even more from the tantalizing aromas that the stalls were giving off. Irelia chuckled at this display and looked towards them, "Are you guys that hungry? Didn't you eat some before we left?"
Elias turns to her and nods his head. "I know D'Art did eat some before we left, but I haven't eaten anything since we were at Yasuo's place." he tells her while glancing over at the stalls again. "Wait, what? That was almost five days ago! How are you still functioning properly?!" exclaims a concerned Riven. "I'm kind of dead remember? I don't have to eat nearly as often as... well alive people do. But when I do get hungry..." Elias trails off and his attention swaps back towards the food stalls. The Exile sighs and shakes her head at his response before she turns to Irelia, "I guess our first stop is food then." The Ionian nods and she leads her group over to the food stalls.
They all order some snacks from one of the stands and a few minutes later Elias and D'Art had their hands full of kebabs with various meats on them. They both scarfed down their sticks of meat like a pack of wild animals, making Annie giggle at the sight while she also joined in with them, albeit less as ferocious. Irelia and Riven however just stared in both awe and disgust at how fast some people could consume food. The Judge and his feasting companion commented between mouthfuls of delectable meat on how tasty and juicy it was, and how the spices used just made the mouth water in joy. Minutes later the group of champions later finished their snacks and they continued on with the tour of the festival.
Irelia continued with the history of the Blossom Festival and how it began thousands of years ago in ancient Ionia. "Oh I almost forgot! There's a show that goes on every year in the Blossom Theater located in the middle of the square. Let's go see it!" Irelia excitedly tells the group. All of them nod in agreement and they start to head into the more crowded area of the festival. The sea of people bumped into the group relentlessly. Irelia and D'Art had taken the front and were clearing a pathway through while the others followed in suit. Halfway through, Riven had gotten bumped into by multiple people and she began to lose sight of her group. She tried to push through the group by her own and made some headway, but the crowd started to push more against her. Once she had lost sight of them the Exile started calling out for her friends to wait up, but her voice was drowned in the sea of Ionians at the festival.
Suddenly a hand grabbed hers and jerked her forward into a dark portal and Elias pulls her into his arms. She lands against him with a thud and looks up to see him grinning at her. "You're lucky I found you Rivs. Stay close to me next time, buttercup." he says as he gives her a quick wink. This makes the silver-haired champion blush red, but not nearly as much as when he takes a hold of her hand and lead them onward. His grip was gentle and it led to Riven being overcome with a sense of both comfort and embarrassment from her knowing she was blushing so much. Elias didn't notice- or at least didn't say anything, and they walk in silence till they arrive at the theater.
It was a massive building that was colored an orange-red with a large green roof that looked much like ancient Chinese buildings or palaces. When Irelia had approached the people at the front they bowed to her and motioned for all of them to go in. Elias and co walked into the building and looked around in awe. The inside was covered in beautiful designs and paintings that displayed important points of Ionian history. There was a large stage on the northern part of the building and to the south there was a large selection of seating that rose up almost to the ceiling of the massive building. There were only a few people seated so far, so the group decided on sitting near the top for the best view of the show.
Half an hour later, all of the seats were taken up at the theater and people there chatted until the show started. "Oh! I forgot to mention: the show this year is the "The Tale of Reina" preformed by Akali and Shen." Irelia tells the group. The Judge leans back in his chair and tries to remember what they looked like again in their Blood Moon skins, but could only remember what their masks looked like. "At least Jhin isn't the one preforming. That would have been a nightmare and a half... or maybe a beautiful performance. I haven't really gotten a feel on his complete character yet." Elias says to Irelia. She gives a weak nod as she understood how Jhin operated when it came to his "performances". A few minutes later, the lights dimmed and the room went quiet. Elias looks up towards a balcony at the top of the stage to see Kennen scanning the onlookers for the elderly man.
The lights dimmed in the room and the curtain onstage slowly began to rise. Lights were flashed onto the stage to highlight two figures standing in the darkness. The first one turned around slowly to reveal a fierce looking oni, or demon mask. Following suit, the second figure turned around to reveal Akali with her mask resting on her head. Both of them faced each other and bowed, right before they began to circle each other. Shen drew his saber from his back and held it close to his close to his chest while he kept his other arm up in a blocking stance. Akali simply stands there before nodding to her master.
Shen then began to advance menacingly and dramatically towards Akali, as if imitating the evil spirit that his mask represented. She responded in turn by running away in fear of the "spirit" that was haunting her. They took turns running in circle, jumping away, and Akali even used her "Twilight Shroud" ability as a way of showing her determination to escape the evil spirit. This went on for a while, as it was telling the tale of how Reina had tried to escape the spirit for years. The Fist of Shadow's mood however quickly altered after she paused and slid the mask on her head onto her face. The Eye of Twilight made an exaggerated action of being scared as in the ancient Ionian tale it stated that when Reina had put on the mask, the spirit was scared off by her strength to face it. When Akali had turned back to face Shen, he had vanished from his spot, thus ending "The Tale of Reina".
She then faced the crowd and bowed. Various members got from their seats and a thunderous applause erupted in the room at the end of the play. Elias and his group got up as well and applauded at the wondrous performance they had just witnessed. The Judge was going to say something to Irelia before a quick flash of light caught his attention. He saw Kennen pointing towards the front of the stage and noticed the man he was looking for was here. "I'll be right back." he tells his group before he summons a portal underneath him which takes him right to the front of the stage where the elderly man was. He quickly invoked his scythe and pointed it at the elder.
"I don't know who you are but under the authority given to me by Head Summoner Maxis, I order you to relinquish the jar in your possession now!" barks the Judge. At first the elderly man feigns ignorance, but then his face contorts into an evil grin, "If you say so, Judge of the Fallen!" With the last word said, the man took the jar from his robes and smashed it onto the ground, leaving a black goo to ooze out from the remains. Akali and Shen quickly apprehended the old man, while Kennen came down from the balcony from above. Elias nodded at them before his attention was immediately drawn in by the sound of a nightmarish laugh. "I. Am. FREE!" bellows a raspy voice.
Elias turns to see that Nocturne had manifested from the goo that was left on the floor of the theater. "Everybody out!" yells the Judge to the people in the theater. A mass panic ensued as everyone tried to leave the theater at once in a rush. Elias quickly summoned portals around the room while the members of the Kinkou Order ushered them through to safety. The Judge brought his friends from the top to the stage to outside the theater from one of his portals. Once everyone was outside of the theater the Judge turned to the three ninjas standing before him, "You three try and hold Nocturne off while I go help evacuate people to safety. I'll be back shortly!" They nod in agreement and turn to fight Nocturne while Elias appeared outside in front of his friends. "Irelia, D'Art, Riven! I need you guys to evacuate these people to safety. I'll open a portal to the Ionian city capital that will close when everyone else is safe on the other side. Riven, I need you to head back to the Institute with Annie to tell Maxis what is going on here. I have to go back and help Shen and the others fight Nocturne." he tells them. Irelia and D'Artagnan nod in agreement while the other two look worriedly at Elias.
"Why do you have to fight him? Aren't Shen and the others be enough to deal with Nocturne?" Riven asks; afraid of what could happen to Elias. "He feeds and amplifies terror. Nocturne makes people fight their worst nightmares times one-hundred. I deal with that on a constant basis as-is, so I have to help them out!" he argues. Riven was about to argue back about wanting to help fight Nocturne, but Elias did something so sudden that it completely shocked her. Elias had pulled her into a passionate kiss which silenced any and all disputes she had in her mind. "I am not letting him hurt you again Riven. Take Annie, tell Maxis about this, and bring back help. Now go!" the Judge yells before summoning a massive portal in the square and a smaller one for the stunned white-haired woman and the child that was tugging on her arm. She nods while both blushing crimson red and of course being shocked at what had just happened to her, but she regains her composure and runs through the portal with Annie.
Irelia and D'Art then head off to usher people towards the large portal in the center and to search for any missing persons. Elias first opens a small portal and puts his glasses inside and then jumps back into the theater with a portal to witness a gruesome one-sided fight happening. Akali and Kennen were both badly injured with large gashes going across their bodies, but they continued to fight, albeit at a much slower pace. Shen was engaged in a fierce sword fight with his and Nocturne's blades ringing throughout the theater. The Judge immediately jumped into action and brings down his scythe to try and land a blow on The Eternal Nightmare, but it simply raised its other blade to counter. Elias gritted his teeth while slowing trying to bring his weapon down onto the living nightmare. Before he could do so, Nocturne pushed both him and Shen away before dashing towards the injured Kennen. The Judge quickly summoned a portal that made Nocturne go through it and reappear on the opposite side of the theater. "Shen take your people and get out of here! I'll hold off Noc till the summoners arrive to deal with him for good." The Eye of Twilight looked at this injured comrades and nodded, leading Elias to summon a portal that led the trio to safety.
"Now it's just you and me, motherfucker." Elias whispers under his breath. Nocturne growled at his opponent before brandishing both of his weapons in front of him. "You will not survive this nightmare Judge. You may have driven me back last time, but this time I will kill you." said the hellish demon that stood (well actually he's floating) before the Judge. "Except this time I'm not freshly woken from a coma, and I've aged almost a decade. I've gotten a lot stronger than last time Noc." Elias retorts. "We shall see..." Nocturne replies, evilly grinning through his shadowy form. Without a second wasted Elias immediately runs towards the enemy champion, swinging his scythe sideways at the nightmare's body.
Nocturne of course caught the blade of his scythe with his own arm blade, but he was immediately greeted with a hail of bullets coming from Elias' gun, "Oh, and I've upgraded my arsenal since last time Nocturne." The bullets simply pass right through the hellish creature as it chuckles evilly, "It appears you've also gained some new fears as well, Judge. Killing you will be so much more enjoyable." Elias jumps away from Nocturne and slams his scythe into the ground, scowling at his opponent. "We'll see about that." The two champions then lunge at each other, the sound of their blades echoing throughout the theater.
"Maxis we need your help!" exclaims Riven as she bursts through the Head Summoner's office door. The elder summoner looks up from a report on his desk at the Exile and cocks his head, "With what exactly my dear?" Annie pushes through Riven and looks up with pleading eyes at Maxis. "Elias needs help! He's fighting that scary ghost monster by himself and needs help!" the pink-haired child says in a frightened tone. The Head Summoner's attention diverts to Riven as his face turns serious, "Where are they Riven?", "They're in Ionia at the Blossom Festival Theater. He mass evacuated everyone at the festival before confronting Nocturne with the Kinkou Order." she tells him. Maxis nods his head and begins ordering multiple summoners to head to Ionia to help contain the threat of Nocturne. A few seconds later, a frantic summoner showed up at Maxis' door. "We need Soraka and Taric here asap! We've got severely wounded champions that need immediate medical attention!"
Shen and the rest of his order were lying against the walls covered in blood and breathing rapidly. The Head Summoner immediately summons a portal that pops out Soraka and Taric, much to their confusion. Maxis points to the severely wounded champions and the two supports immediately get the picture. While they rush over to the wounded champions, Maxis summons another portal that brings through a fairly tall man whose skin was a dark shade of blue. "Ryze, I apologize for summoning you here without warning, but I am in dire need of your assistance." the Head Summoner tells him. The Rogue Mage huffs and dusts himself off before looking at Maxis, "What is it, Maxis? I was about to locate a World Rune, but then again if you did drag me here without warning I assume this is of great import. So what can I do for you?"
Maxis motions to Riven and she explains the gist of the situation to the ancient archmage. "I see. So I assume you need me to temporarily trap Nocturne so the summoners can seal him once again? It seems simple enough, but won't the Judge be a problem afterwards?" Ryze asks the Head Summoner. "What do you mean? He's fighting Nocturne right now, how could he be a problem?" Riven asks in both a confused and angered tone towards the blue mage. "Exposure to such a dangerous and powerful creature can have devastating psychological effects. Depending on how long the boy fights with the creature, his mental psyche could deteriorate to a degree to where he cannot tell the difference between this reality, or the false reality he will be experiencing in his mind." Ryze explains to her. Her face shifted into one of confusion and she looked over to Maxis who sighed. "His past experiences will begin to haunt him so much that it'll become so real for him, that he cannot tell the difference between what is real and what isn't." Riven nods her head and kneels down to Annie, "You stay here with Maxis ok? We'll be back soon with Elias ok?" The young pyromancer nods her head and she walks over to the Head Summoner, giving a small wave goodbye to the Exile.
"We should hurry! Let's go, let's go!" exclaims the Rogue Mage as he opens his book and a flow of rune magic courses through his body. Ryze begins to summon a portal underneath the two of them using his magic and a bright flash of light fills the room. Riven and Ryze appeared back at the Blossom Festival square along with a mass gathering of Summoners. They all make their way towards the theater to find a large portion of it looked like it had been blown apart from the inside. The sounds of screaming was heard inside and both summoners and the two champions rushed inside to aid Elias and imprison Nocturne again. When they did get inside however the Judge was the only one inside still standing. Scattered throughout the main stage were what looked little pieces of living shadows that wriggled and writhed on the floor. "Well it looks like our job of sealing Nocturne will be easier than anticipated." muttered Ryze. The summoners immediately get to work and start casting spells that entrap the various pieces of the Eternal Nightmare in cages of light.
Riven was about to make a break for Elias before she is stopped by the blue archmage, "Wait here. I will go check and see if his psyche has broken down or not." She nods her head and Ryze heads over to the Judge to see if he was alright. "Judge are you alright? Don't see any residual phantoms of your past do you? Hello?" Ryze asks as he approaches the Judge with caution. Elias looks over his shoulder for a brief moment before his eyes widen and he lunges at the Rogue Mage. Ryze however immediately stops him in his tracks with in his Rune Prison ability and lets out a frustrated sigh. "Apparently my worst fears have just occurred. The Judge's mind is now trapped in his worst memories. It would take a miracle to break him out of this trance." Ryze says to himself. Elias struggles with the Rune Prison around him before he manages to slash in an arc with his scythe to break the magic bindings. "You thought you could take her form to fool me Nocturne?! We'll jokes on you: I'VE ALREADY KILLED HER BEFORE, SO IT'S NOT MUCH DIFFERENT FROM NOW!" Elias roars as he lunges forward towards the archmage.
Ryze tries to ready another Rune Prison but is interrupted by Riven's sword clashing with Elias' scythe. She finds herself struggling to push against his immense strength, even though she is physically a lot stronger than Elias. "Elias stop! None of it is real! This is just Nocturne's powers coming over you!" Riven pleads with the Judge. Elias' attack lets up for a moment but he gets more aggressive than before. "You must be out of your fucking mind if you thought you could use Riven against me Nocturne!" the Judge yells as he brings down his scythe again with more force than before. Without even thinking, Riven uses her magic to reform her sword and she easily parries his attack before jumping at him. Elias closes his eyes reflexively as to expect being run through by the blade, but instead feels a set of arms being wrapped around him.
"I love you... Come back to me..." Riven whispers to him. Elias' eyes shoot open and he immediately comes too. After realizing what had just happened, his arms immediately wrap themselves around her. "Oh god. I-I'm so s-sorry Riv. I didn't mean to-" he starts to say before he is shushed by her finger. "It's ok. I'm glad we could get the new couple fighting out of the way so early." she says with a small chuckle. Elias' face lit up crimson and he tried to hide his face in his hood to no avail. "I must be pretty lousy if we've already gotten to that stage." he says with a small smile. She giggles at his response before leaning in closer to his ear, "You may be a lousy boyfriend, but at least you're my lousy boyfriend."
AN: So uh... I'm sorry. "Its only been 7 months since the last update, nothing you know. Too crazy."-People that read this (for some reason). I got lazy, I know.
