A/N: here is some more camp fire time. Thnx to Laal for the wonderful review, I'm not sure what will be answers to your questions. We'll have travel some and see.
As they prepared for night Bilbo moved around Thorin, not to close, trying to find a moment to get him back his cover, but he was never alone. Everyone talked to him, touched him, patted his back, and did all things Bilbo would never do. He hesitated in stepping out in the spotlight and giving it back for everyone to witness and pry some. Finally he just put his backpack next to Thorin's place by the fire and on top of it his cover hoping he'll notice. He didn't dare to place it on Thorin's things because he felt like everyone is watching him closely.
"I'll just go and check things out" he said to Balin after that feeling awkward. "I mean to see if I was right about Orcs, or something. I'll just climb a tree or two and see, if there is anything to be seen. And I hope there isn't, that we're alone."
"Sure" Balin looked at him knowingly over his beard. "It's good to check even if you're sure. We'll be here, we won't leave without you."
Bilbo nodded now worried that they might leave him alone in this vastness but he went in search of good lookout. He didn't lie, at least he'll make it truthful by climbing a tree to clear his thoughts.
He found a solitary tree from which he could see far. There was nothing to be seen. They truly were in the middle of the wild, there were no settlements, nor wanderers, just empty hollows and hills. Bilbo missed the Shire and suddenly felt the longing for his chair. In it all his strange emotions would seem childish. He would only open a book and all would be forgotten.
Finally it was time to go back. Surely they went to sleep and got quiet, he gave them enough time for that. When he got back it turned out he was right, everyone slept except the guard. Thorin remained awake again.
"You're back master Baggins" Thorin smiled at him and Bilbo felt frustrated and angry. Why didn't he go to sleep, even he needs to sleep from time to time. "Any news?"
"All is quiet" sighed Bilbo noticing that the cover was unmoved on his backpack. If nothing else now there were no witnesses to see him embarrassed.
He lifted up the cover offering it to Thorin.
"Cover me" ordered Thorin easily, Bilbo had to remind himself that Thorin was royalty, used to be served with everything.
Deciding against arguing Bilbo complied moving in closer behind Thorin's back. As he placed the cover over Thorin's strong shoulders he slightly touched his hair discovering that it was smooth. He supressed the urge to dug his hand into it and moved away.
"If you're cold" said Thorin and Bilbo discovered he had made a place beside him for Bilbo to sit.
Bilbo stayed quiet for too long so he had to comply. What would he say? He couldn't say he's warm.
He sat beside Thorin avoiding contact unable to relax.
"You froze on the lookout" said Thorin breaking the silence. "You're so cold we'll have to carry you around like an ice statue."
With that he covered Bilbo over his head and pulled him closer. Bilbo wanted to scream and run, but at the same time he wanted to dive into Thorin.
"Thorin my boy" said Gandalf and Bilbo froze. "Why are you again alone on the guard. You must sleep too, I'll be on guard tonight."
"There's no need" said Thorin with determination. "I'm fine."
Bilbo decided that he won't be caught in this position by anyone, let alone Gandalf. He estimated that the wizard didn't noticed him still so he put his ring on his finger and quickly rolled from under the cover and run away making circle around the camp and finally throwing himself on his spot. There he removed his ring and closed his eyes pretending to be asleep, hoping he was quiet enough not to be heard by Gandalf. He tried to hear what they were whispering by the fire. There was talk of Erebor, keys, path, but not of him. That calmed him down and soon he fell asleep in some pleasant dreams.
Leave a dream for me :)
