Human Again ch 13
—
Beverly Crusher sat in her office reading medical files. With everything that had happened these last 3 months, it was all she could do to distract herself and keep herself busy. It was already 8 at night in Earth time, pretty soon she'd go back to her quarters and fall in bed before waking up and doing the Many times her friends had tried to get her to go on shore leave or take a break but she couldn't. It didn't feel right because nothing was right. She sat there and sighed before continuing her work.
Suddenly, a flash of light appeared before quickly disappearing. Beverly blinked to regain her vision before realizing who had showed up with the light.
"Hi mom" the man said smiling at .
"Wesley?" She asked standing up in a daze, "Wesley?"
"Yeah mom it's me. Sorry I kind of just popped up. I didn't really know if I should come in at the transporter room or where. I figured this would be the best place." He explained as she walked around the desk, halfway confused and the other half excited. Finally she stood in front of him before she smiled and wrapped her arms around him. They stood like that for a moment before she let him go.
"So, anything new?" Wesley asked as she sighed and looked down.
"That would be an understatement. A ton of stuff has happened since you've been gone but we can talk back in my quarters. It's not as comfortable here." Beverly says as he smiled before they walked back to her quarters.
Along the way they received many confused looks. The annoying boy genius that had magically disappeared was back? A few people stopped to say hi but after a few waves and small talk, they finally arrived back to their quarters.
Walking in Beverly took off her lab coat and laid it over a chair while Wesley looked around.
"Everything looks the same mom." He said looking around before sitting on the couch that had a coffee table in front of it.
"I didn't really see a need to change it. I like this set up best after all." She replied before sitting in the chair across from him and giving him the tea. They sat like that for a few minutes. Wesley was confused, usually his mother was full of energy. He thought she would've asked him at least 20 questions by now. Instead she looked tired. Really tired. Wesley continued to drink the tea before he noticed two photos on the coffee table. The first photo was a picture of Wesley as a baby. He'd seen that photo before, his mother always had it out and it was in his personal file. Next to his though was a picture of someone he'd never seen. He put the tea down and grabbed the photo.
"Mom, who's this?" Wesley asked as Beverly looked up and noticed what he'd grabbed.
"Oh sweetheart, it's going to be a long night" she said sighing, putting the tea down and walking across to sit next to him. "Wesley, that's your sister" Beverly says taking the picture from him to run her fingers over it.
"Really? I have a sister?" He asked smiling "I didn't know you and captain Picard were that close to getting together when I left!"
Beverly looks at him confused "what's that supposed to mean?"
"So it's not Picards baby...?" He mumbled as she looked at him.
"Wesley I do not have a baby with anyone. I adopted her but the doesn't make her any less special." Beverly laughs as he nods.
"I agree I just always thought you two had some chemistry. Anyway, where is she?" He asks as Beverly bit her lip. "Mom?"
"She's somewhere in Romulan Territory. I lost her." She says tearing up "and I don't know how to get her back."
"Mom? I'm confused?"
"About three months ago Romulans bordered the ship. They took her out of the nursery and kidnapped her. I tried to get down there before they did but I was too late." Beverly explains putting her face in her hands "I don't even know if she's alive."
"Mom it's ok." Wesley soothes rubbing his hand on her back.
"No I saw them take her. It's my fault." She admits starting to cry "then, we figured if we found Q he could help us but he never showed up."
"Why would you need Q?" He asks.
"Because Wesley, your sister was a Q before the Q we know made her human." She explains as he falls back more confused.
"Oh we have a lot to discuss." She says grabbing his hand.
PAGE BREAK
After a few days of becoming reacquainted with his friends and family Wesley stood in the transporter room, hugging people hugging goodbye. Hugging his mother last, he promised if he saw Q he would reference him to them and if he was ever in Romulan Territory he'd look for her himself as long as she would stop working till 8 at night with her grief. She hugged him for a long while before he stepped up on the transporter pad. Beverly watched sadly as her oldest child slowly disappeared and just like that, her son had come and gone and she was alone again.
