The phone was still inside the bathroom. Gene Kleinman anticipated whatever Blue Snake was going to have to do to rescue him. He lounged on the couch, trying to maintain a relaxed position, yet he could not stop shaking his legs. The Red Dragon member who was staying on guard to watch him was in the bathroom. The guard washed his hands in the sink. There was a knock on the front door to the apartment. Gene's eyes shifted to stare at the door. His heart beated faster, and his sweat stained his shirt on the lower back. From inside the bathroom, the Red Dragon focused on the knock at the door. His lips were sealed tight. He opened the bathroom door silently. He walked into the living room with quiet footsteps that tapped the carpet. He looked at Gene Kleinman.
"Who's knocking?" whispered the Red Dragon.
Gene shook his head. "I don't know," he whispered back.
"Did my phone ring?"
Gene looked to the phone sitting on the coffee table. He thought quickly, and realized that if a Red Dragon member were coming, then they would have called. So, in order to make him think there was a another Red Dragon member out there, he simply replied "Yes."
The Red Dragon glared at the front door. He walked up to it and said "Codeword?"
A silenced pistol shot the lock of the door off. Someone then kicked the door open, swinging it into the Red Dragon member. He fell back. A man in a suit with no tie stepped inside and shot the Red Dragon member to death. Gene covered his head in fear. The man in the suit put his gun away in the holster on his rib. He lifted up Kleinman by his arm and escorted him out of the apartment building. They went down a stairwell, and went out through a back exit. A white van met them in the alley on the side of apartment complex. The van door slid open and the man threw Kleinman inside. He then got in and slid the door shut. Gene sat between two men in suits, and in the passenger seat was the man he talked to on the phone.
"Gene Kleinman, it's been ages." he said.
"W-Who are you?" said Gene.
"Top brass promoted me to the main enforcer. You probably don't remember me. My name is Jericho."
"Jericho? That's not a name, what is that?"
"It doesn't matter what it is. It's what you're going to call me from now on."
"Where are we going?"
"New headquarters. Blue Snake's found some way to stay alive in all this shit."
"Are we being followed? You know Red Dragon has been exterminating what's left us?"
"We got in under control. Seems like Red Dragon was a little sloppy leaving you with so little protection. They'll catch on eventually, but by then we'll be long gone."
The white van drove on the highway, blending in with dozens of other cars. They drove for about twenty minutes, and the whole time Gene Kleinman stayed in quiet disbelief that he got out of there.
The van drove up to a butcher shop. All the men stepped out of the van, and went in through the back of the building. Through rows of hanging red meat, Gene and the Blue Snakes walked through to the center of the cutting room floor. Standing above the drainage hole, was the head of the Snake: Vincent Bellotti. He was wearing a black suit with a blue dress shirt and a bolo tie. He made no expression as he watched Gene Kleinman walk up to him. Gene was hunched over, and all though he was relieved, he had no idea what Bellotti was going to say to him. Then, Gene was standing in front of him. He was so much shorter than all the other Blue Snakes. There was an intimidating air that swirled with the chilling breeze of the frozen meat.
"Kleinman. It's been a while."said Bellotti.
"Hey… Look, Bellotti, thank you so much. I owe you my life." said Gene.
"I should take your life."
"What?"
Bellotti popped Kleinman's nose with his fist. Gene fell to his knees with his hands pressing his broken nose tightly.
"What the hell?! Bellotti?!" said Gene.
"This! This is all your fault! The police are throwing my men into jail like rats in a cage! Red Dragons are gunning us down in the middle of nowhere! All because of you! You gave them everything, you rat!" Bellotti struck another blow into Kleinman's face.
Taro ran into the apartment. He looked around like a wild dog. The guard who was watching Kleinman lied on the carpet like the bloodstain he was pooling underneath him. Taro ran into the bathroom. Taro looked out through bathroom window and saw the white van that Gene Kleinman was being taken away in. Taro ran out of the apartment, down the stairwell, and into the parking lot. There was another Red Dragon in a black car that was parked. He threw himself into the passenger seat.
"They got Kleinman! Go! Follow that white van, it's going up the street!"
The Red Dragon started the engine. The car peeled out of the parking lot, and followed the van. Taro saw the van making a right at the intersection. "There!" he said. The black car followed back at a safe distance. They were blending in with the traffic around them. Taro took out his phone. He dialed Dodge.
"Dodge! Dodge! They got Kleinman! Someone broke into the apartment and killed Mitchell! I'm following a white van on the highway right now!"
Dodge immediately ran out of the back of the liquor store he and a few other Red Dragons were in. He got inside his zipcraft, and started the engines.
"Taro! You keep following that van! Stay on the phone and tell me where it's going!" Dodge flew the Great White spaceship off the lot.
The van had stopped behind the butcher shop. Taro successfully followed the van. He and the driver stayed back at a safe distance. They climbed up the ladder of a pharmacy that was across the street, and around the corner. Taro watched the butcher shop through binoculars. He couldn't see anything other than the building.
Dodge parked his ship in a huge alley. He got off and ran toward the pharmacy. He stepped up the ladder and met with Taro.
"What did you see?!" said Dodge.
"Nothing," said Taro, "The van was parked when we got here. We haven't seen anyone go in or out of the shop. And I'm sure the van is empty."
"All right, we got guys on their way. We're gonna surround that shop."
"Hold on, man. We don't even know who's in there. We can't just shoot up a place of business without knowing if Blue Snake is in there."
"Oh, so now you're hesitant to kill these bastards?"
"Yeah, when I can't see them right in front of me."
"Can't see them? You're sure that van had Kleinman in it, right?"
"Yeah, pretty sure. It drove off from the alley once I checked the apartment and went down the stairs."
"You just stood back and let Mitchell die?"
"Look, Dodge. I was by myself and I didn't know how many guys went in there. I was around the corner when I heard someone knock and then shoot the lock off. I had to stay back until the coast was clear."
"Yeah, I guess that would've been suicide."
"And I don't know how many guys are in there now. This is still suicide if we just shoot, Dodge."
"No matter how many are in there, I have a feeling that they're all Blue Snake."
"Yeah, I have the same hunch."
"There has to be at least someone important who's in there."
"We kill them? Interrogate them?"
"No more interrogation. Blue Snake is finished."
"What about Kleinman?"
"He's probably giving them info right now as we speak."
"We going to kill him too?"
"... I don't know."
Kleinman was tied to a chair in the cutting room floor. His face was bloodied and bruised. He was breathing in agony. Bellotti was shaking him by the shirt.
"All right, give me more locations Kleinman. You travelled around everywhere with them! I know you have to know more!" said Bellotti.
"I don't know, I don't know, I don't know!" said Kleinman.
"What do you know about Lee?!"
"I only met him once, and when I did he had a gun pointed at me!"
"Is this where you gave us out?"
"Yes… this is when I connected Lee with Basque."
"Basque is dead now. The police think we stole his weapons and probably killed him. There is no way out of this, and it is all because of you!"
"This all because of Lee! The Red Dragons! I didn't do any of this!"
"Lee isn't here right now! Because if he was he'd be in the same seat as you!"
A speaker sounded from the outside. Dodge was on the speaker system to his ship. "All right, we know you got Kleinman!" said Dodge, "We got this whole shop surrounded. No way out."
Bellotti looked to the walls in horror. "You led them here?!" he said.
"I didn't lead anyone here!" said Kleinman.
"They followed the damn van," said Jericho, "I knew rescuing him wasn't worth it."
"Are you giving me lip again, Jericho?" said Bellotti.
"No, I'm telling you off. We all should've just left and forgotten about the Red Dragon. There's nothing left to fight for." he said. Jericho dropped his weapon, and walked toward the door.
"Jericho?! Jericho! Get back here!"
Jericho disregarded Bellotti. He opened the door, and stuck his empty hands outside. "Hey! Look! I give up, okay?!" he said.
Dodge, Taro, and the other Red Dragons readied their weapons. Jericho stepped outside with his hands over his head. He dropped to his knees. Dodge approached Jericho. Jericho lied flat on his stomach, with his hands still over his head. Dodge patted him down, and found nothing on him.
"Hey, our boss in there. Bellotti, Kleinman, and about fifteen other guys." said Jericho.
"Why are you giving up?" said Dodge.
"You kidding me? I know Red Dragons have a til' death do us part with their syndicate, but I don't have that much love for Blue Snake. I am not dying for Bellotti, especially after the way he's treated us."
Dodge looked at him. He had a moment where he thought if he would do the same to Lee. Dodge is loyal to end, but he didn't feel that Lee was the same way. He was thinking too much, he concluded. "All right, anyone else want to come out quietly, then? We don't have to make this messy." he said into the shop.
Kleinman immediately recognized Dodge's voice. He noticed Bellotti wasn't looking, so he made a run for the door. Kleinman could barely run because his torso was tied to the chair. Bellotti turned to see Kleinman running out the door.
"You son of a bitch!" said Bellotti. He unholstered his high-powered handgun from his waist. He ran after Kleinman. Kleinman popped out through the door, and surprised Dodge. All Dodge could focus on was Kleinman who was a bloodied mess. This extremely confused Dodge. Bellotti blasted Kleinman's head, splattering blood all over Dodge. Bellotti aimed his gun at Dodge, and Dodge put his hand up instinctively. Bellotti shot the gun again, completely destroying Dodge's right hand. Dodge flew back onto the ground unconsciously.
Taro immediately used his assault rifle to kill Bellotti. The Blue Snakes began firing from inside the butcher shop. The Red Dragons shot back. Around ten Red Dragons closed in on the building with high-velocity assault rifles. The building was shredded by the bullets, and some of the Blue Snakes began running outside to surrender. They were shot too.
Dodge woke up in a cold sweat, inside a small room. He was lying down on a bed and wearing a hospital gown. He felt a warm sensation like electricity flowing through his spine. He put his right hand up to his forehead. Then he felt the hard carbon fiber of his new hand. He gasped. "Oh God, oh God, oh God, oh God." he said. Dodge was panicking. He sat up in the bed. He became hysterical and started laughing. Taro stepped into the room after he heard him.
"Jesus Christ, Dodge, you're awake?" said Taro.
Dodge breathed deeply and then uneasily. He finally relaxed and looked at Taro. "Where the hell am I, Taro?" he said.
"With the Doc, who else?"
"Shit. I haven't been here in a long time."
"Sorry it had to come down to this, man."
"My hand, Taro. My goddamn hand is gone."
"Hey, look Dodge people get things replaced all the time."
"Why did it have to be plastic?!"
"It's a nice carbon fiber."
"It feels like damn plastic!"
"It's all we could afford right now!"
Dodge took a long look at the black hand as he opened and closed it. "What happened to Bellotti and the Blue Snakes?"
"Bellotti's dead. All those Blue Snakes too. Even the ones that tried to run out and surrender. That guy Jericho who gave up is the only one that survived. We turned him over to our guys at ISSP though."
Dodge sighed. "Damn, I can't believe Bellotti's own guys just turned on him like that. That guy Jericho was top brass, and he just gave up… maybe we didn't have to kill all of them if Bellotti didn't fly off the handle."
"Dodge, there's no take-backs. We killed them all, and nothing's going to change that. Blue Snake is over. No matter how we got it done, they're done."
"You're right… We got 'em... We finally got 'em. What about Kleinman?"
"You don't remember his head being blown off right in front of you? That guy's deader than a doornail."
"Oh, God. I remember now. I don't think that guy deserved that."
"The guy was a Blue Snake, and a rat. He doesn't deserve our sympathy."
"We forced all that info out of him, we got him killed."
"Dodge, c'mon. We're both trained killers, and have killed a lot of guys before. He's no different. You're just getting emotional."
Dodge nodded his head. "Yeah, you're right… Have you contacted Lee?"
"Yeah I gave Shiro a call and told him everything after the situation calmed down. Lee knows. He wanted to talk to you when you woke up."
"What did he say to you?"
"Nothing. He didn't want to tell me anything. He wanted to wait until you woke up."
"... Okay. Ring him up."
On Ganymede, Shiro walked into Lee's office, which showed no trace of Basque ever being there. Lee was sitting in the large red leather office chair, looking at the city through the window. Shiro had a phone in his hand and whispered into Lee's ear. He handed Lee the phone.
"Good God, Dodge, how are you feeling?" said Lee.
"Good. Good. I'm gonna live." said Dodge.
"Well I'm glad to hear it. How's your hand doing?"
"It's fine. It has sensation and feeling at least."
"Shiro told me all about it. I just wanted to let you, don't you worry about your hand, we're going to get you a new one. Basque's company is finally turning a profit for Red Dragon. I'm going to personally fund for a hand that looks and feels like the real thing. You'll hardly miss your original."
"Thank you, sir. I really appreciate it."
"Oh, and you don't have to worry about me either. I'm not mad. I'm actually quite fine with how everything turned out. Except your hand, of course."
"Really?"
"Yes, that took care of everything. It was almost perfect. You found a gathering of the highest echelon of Blue Snake, and shot them like fish in a barrel. Bellotti is dead, Kleinman is dead. It was disastrous, yet beautiful. No ISSP showed up either until after-the-fact, thank God."
"It wasn't planned out that way. It just happened."
"Serendipitous, then. Dodge, we're heading a huge company now, and our syndicate rivals are taken care of. It's only up from here. I want you to start moving red eye soon. The men will be happy to hear that, I'm sure."
"You still want me to just move red eye?"
"Yes, isn't that what you wanted?"
"... Yeah."
"Fantastic. I hope things are fruitful for you and the men. I'll see you all soon." Lee clicked the call off.
Dodge dropped the phone onto his lap. He just stared blankly into his own lap. He felt cheated that Lee left him on Mars to do the dirty work. There was hardly any gratitude, and all Lee could tell him was to keep moving red eye. Dodge wondered if he was still going to stay in the same position in the Red Dragon for the rest of his life. He didn't want to get stuck as top enforcer if it meant losing his limbs. It stung even more that Shiro was living so comfortably, yet he didn't have to do any of this.
Demetrius was sitting with Eleanor in his apartment. They sat across from each other in two uncomfortable steel chairs. Eleanor had a big yellow folder in her lap.
"What's been up with Lee?" said Demetrius.
"Something happened on Mars… their rival, the Blue Snake syndicate was dissolved." said Eleanor.
"What happened?"
"The Red Dragons rounded up the higher level members, around fifteen men, and murdered almost everyone inside a butcher shop. They shot the building from the outside with firearms. Firearms from Basque Industries. The same shipments I helped send out. No one knows that except Lee and Shiro, though. But the incident was still all over the news, and they could not find a single suspect, apparently."
"Shit. They get away with everything, don't they?"
"And we're going to get away from them, okay?"
Eleanor opened the folder. She slid out documents from it, and handed them to Demetrius. He took a look at the document with his face on it.
"This is your new identity," said Eleanor, "I also got us tickets to Mars too. We're going to be out of here soon, I promise."
"Where are we going to stay?" said Demetrius.
"We'll find a hotel or something. After that, I'll have to find a new apartment. Lee knows where I live on Mars. I have to find someplace else or he'll find me."
"What about me? Where am I going live?"
Eleanor put her hands on Demetrius' hands. "You can stay with me for a while. I wanted you for protection, and if you stay with me, I'll feel safer." she said.
Dodge scoffed lightly and smirked. However, he looked at Eleanor's eyes. He could tell she was being sincere. "Alright, I understand. Sounds like a plan." he said.
"I don't think Lee is onto me either. He's so preoccupied with everything else. I think we're going to make it out of here in one piece." she said.
"Don't underestimate him. If he wasn't going to kill us before, then he's definitely going to kill us now for trying to leave. He'll hunt us."
"He won't find us. I hope. But if he does… can you handle it?"
"I'm going to make sure he doesn't touch us. Just cover our tracks."
Eleanor put her arms around Demetrius' neck to hug him. Demetrius was stunned. He put his hand very lightly on her upper back. Eleanor let go, pushed back Demetrius and sat back straight in her chair. She pushed her hair aside.
"Thank you, Demetrius."
"No, thank you. You gave me a second chance in this universe."
Spike sat inside the console room of the Bebop. He looked out to the ocean from the windows. Faye came walking up the stairs. She stood next to Spike and shared the same view of the ocean.
"I'm heading out with Jet today." said Faye.
"Yeah, I remembered." said Spike.
"Okay. Stay safe, I guess." Faye leaned down and kissed Spike on his cheek.
"Yeah, you too." Spike said without even looking at her.
She left the console room and went down the stairs. She had a concerned look on her face. She'd been worried about Spike for a while, and he had hardly been talking with her and especially not with Jet. They didn't seem mad at each other, just tired.
Jet was waiting for Faye at the exit to the Bebop. They walked through the hangar and out onto the landing strip of the Bebop. It was a bright day outside. Donna was on the docks, standing in front of her car. She was in her civilian clothes. Faye saw her from afar off.
"I didn't know she was going to be with us." said Faye.
"Is there a problem with that?" said Jet.
"No, she's perfectly fine with me, but it's not like you to take a girlfriend on a bounty."
"Oh enough, Faye! I've already told you Donna is just a friend. Demetrius Bardon is the case she wants, and this how we're going to help her. She'll help us too."
"Alright, whatever you say."
Jet and Faye stepped down the ladder at the front side of the Bebop and onto the docks. They walked toward Donna. Donna met them halfway and shook their hands.
"Jet. Faye. How are you two doing?" said Donna.
"Great." said Jet.
"Doing fine." said Faye.
"Very well. Hey, where's that other partner of yours, Spiegel?"
"Oh, uh, he decided to sit this one out." said Jet.
"Oh, okay then. Seems like a tough guy, I thought he would want something like this."
"I thought so too." said Jet.
"Well then, uh, how about you guys get in the car, and we'll head out?" said Donna.
Donna got in the driver's seat, Jet got in the front passenger seat, and Faye sat in the back in the middle seat so she could stick her head between Donna and Jet. Donna smiled awkwardly at Faye. They drove off the docks and into the city. Faye's mind was not present with what Donna and Jet were saying. She gazed blankly at the Ganymede buildings. She could only think of Spike. Which is a nice change-up, she thought. At least it wasn't her old memories that were intruding her thoughts.
Donna parked the car on the second floor of the parking complex across from Basque's building. Jet looked at the building through his high-tech binoculars. He looked at the employees standing out front, eating lunch, drinking coffee, or chatting. Then he looked at the employee parking spots. He put his binoculars down. Jet had a case in his lap, and opened it up. Inside was the earpiece that Jet and the crew used the night they first ran into Demetrius. He handed it to Faye.
"Okay, I don't see Eleanor anywhere." said Jet.
"Maybe she's taking a lunch break?" said Donna.
"Possibly, but then that would mean now is our chance to place Faye out there. Okay. Hey Faye, you know what you're going to be saying to her?"
"I think I'm just going to wing it!" said Faye.
"Faye!" said Jet.
Faye stepped out of the car, and walked through the parking lot. Jet stared at her the entire way.
"Well, she seems sure of herself." said Donna.
"It's all an act, she has no idea what's she's doing!" said Jet.
Faye waited at the crosswalk that was right outside of the parking complex. There was half a dozen people near her. They all crossed the street in unison once the walking symbol lit up. Faye looked around. Jet got his earpiece in and pressed his fingers against his ears.
"Faye! Don't ruin this!" he said.
Faye pressed her ear lightly. "Don't worry, I'm not. I think better on my feet, anyways." she said.
"You know, Spike said something similar to me on one of our first bounties."
"Oh yeah? How'd that one go?"
"We owed the bar owner thousands of woolongs after the fight between him and the bounty!"
"Oh, come on, Jet. You know me. I'm not out here to prove myself in a fight like Spike. I can charm my way through anything."
Faye sat outside of the Basque building. It had almost been half an hour. She sat in a chair that was in the lounge area. She had her sunglasses on, and read a newspaper that someone had left there. She scanned the area by only moving her eyes. Then she noticed the red sports car.
Jet noticed the sports car too. He took a closer look through his binoculars. He read the license plate number to see if it was the one Donna had pulled up from the ISSP database.
"It's a match. That's Eleanor Veidt's car." said Jet.
"I saw the car too." said Faye.
"What are you going to do?"
"See what she does first."
Eleanor parked and then proceeded to step out of her car. She had on sunglasses and looked to the bright sky. She walked toward the cafe on the corner of the street, right next to Basque's building. Faye took the opportunity to go inside the cafe and stand in line behind Eleanor. Eleanor read the menu that was on the wall. Faye thought quickly. She reached into her pockets and pulled out her money clip. She pretended to count it.
"Oh, damn," said Faye. She tapped Eleanor on the shoulder. "Hey, you wouldn't happen to have change for 1,000 woo longs, would you?"
Eleanor turned around to look at Faye. "Hmm? Oh. No, sorry I don't carry cash on me." Eleanor turned back around. She didn't seem to acknowledge Faye after that. She took out her platinum money card from her wallet.
"Wow, isn't that high-end?" said Faye.
"What's that?" said Eleanor.
"Oh, I'm so sorry, I couldn't help but notice your platinum card. What do you do for work? If you don't mind me asking?"
"Umm…"
"I'm asking, you know, like one woman to another. It's hard out here for beautiful women like us, it's just nice to see one who made it."
Eleanor's gaze became more attentive. She smirked. "Oh, I get it. Well, if I told you what I did…then I'd have to kill you." she said.
Faye's heart rate rose slightly, she swallowed and chuckled awkwardly. "Umm, what?"
"Oh, jeez, I'm just kidding. I'm not one for jokes. I guess I have to work on my delivery."
"Oh!" Faye said, "I knew you were kidding! Don't worry about it."
"Umm, I'm a lawyer. I only handle one client though: Basque Industries. I work in the building right next to us."
"Basque Industries? What's that?"
"They're big a time weapons manufacturer."
"Wow impressive. So, a fancy lawyer, huh? Hey do you ever do any pro bono work?"
The man in line behind them threw his arms in the air. "Oh my God! Can you two broads order already!" he said.
Faye and Eleanor turned their heads to give the man a nasty look. The man nervously smiled. "Uh, take your time." He said.
A few moments later Eleanor and Faye sat down inside the cafe. They both had their drinks in hand.
"So, I've had this job pretty much since I graduated. It's nice, but it gets really hectic." said Eleanor.
"Hmm, I never finished university myself. I don't think I can transfer any of my credits anymore." said Faye.
"It's never too late to try."
"I guess you're right."
"So what do you do then?"
"Me?"
"Yeah, you know? One beautiful woman to another?"
"Very funny. I'm umm, an actress of sorts."
"An actress? And you think my job is glamorous?"
"It's not as glamorous as you think. It's one of those starving artists kind of situation. No money, no luxuries. I live with two men for crying out loud!"
"Wow. Two men, huh? Ugh, men. Do you ever just want to strangle every man you meet? They're so arrogant and hot-headed. All the macho attitudes I have to work with make want to kill somebody."
"Well, I understand how you feel. So I'm guessing you don't have a husband or anything?"
"You got that right. I haven't dated men in a while."
"So you live by yourself?"
"Why? Are you looking for a roommate?" Eleanor gave Faye a lustful stare.
Faye didn't blink, and she stared blankly at Eleanor. Faye shook her head. "Oh! I didn't mean it like that! I'm sorry if I gave you the wrong idea!"
Eleanor became wide-eyed. "Oh God, this is embarrassing. I'm really sorry. Here I am complaining about men, and now I'm acting like one."
"Well, a man wouldn't have been this sorry."
Eleanor chuckled. "Well, not the way I was thinking, but would you still want a roommate? I have an apartment here in Ganymede."
"Hmm that does sound interesting."
Eleanor gasped. "Oh wait! I'm sorry, I totally forgot. Umm, I'm sorry, I'm going to be moving."
"Moving where?"
"Umm I don't know yet."
"Ever think of moving to Mars? It's the nicest planet in the system."
"I have an apartment on Mars too, actually."
"Two apartments?!"
Eleanor laughed. "Yeah, the job provides. But I am going to be moving out of that one too."
"Oh, why is that?"
"It's complicated."
"Well, jeez, when are you moving?"
"In a few weeks."
"Oh, man. Just when I was getting to know someone."
"What are you doing right now?"
"Me? Nothing. I don't really have any gigs right now."
"Why don't we do something?"
"Why?"
"It's just that, I haven't hit it off with someone like this in a while… you seem different. It's a nice distraction."
"Hmm… Okay, I'm game!"
Back in Donna's car, Jet was listening to the entire conversation. He stayed quiet as he listened closely. Donna was staring at the cafe through the binoculars. She put the binoculars down and turned to Jet.
"It looks like they're leaving the cafe, Jet." said Donna.
"Yeah, it sounds like they hit it off." said Jet.
"What'd Veidt say?"
"One extremely important piece of information: she's moving out of her apartment here on Ganymede and Mars very soon."
"What? Both apartments? What for?"
"She didn't say. I hope Faye can get it out of her."
"Sounds like she's moving out because of something that happened."
"Maybe she got fired?"
"Did she say she did?"
"No, nothing about that yet. She still talks like she's working there."
"Oh, look! They're leaving." Donna and Jet both looked down to watch Faye and Eleanor get inside the red sports car.
"Okay, let's follow them." said Jet.
Donna started up her car. She drove out of the parking space, out of the complex and out on the street. She kept a safe distance behind Eleanor's car. This was all part of the job, and something Donna had done before.
As Faye sat in the passenger seat of the red sports car, she had a sense of deja vu. It wasn't one of her old memories, but that moment she shared with Julia. It really struck her. She looked at Eleanor, her black hair floating with the wind. Faye didn't know if Eleanor actually trusted her. This could all be a trap, Faye thought. Or Eleanor could genuinely be looking for a distraction. Either way, Faye thought carefully.
