A/N Well, this is a little late (I don't know if I ever told guys this or not, but there should always be an update on the corresponding date with the month number, like this month, I should have updated on the 6th, because it is the 6th month. You may randomly get updates, though. :) ) but... no good excuses here. Maybe I'll throw in an extra update this month to make up for it. :)
Disclaimer: not mine.
Oh, Leoglas would be about the equivalent of a three or four year old, while the twins would be more like 14.
Chapter Ten: Look before You Jump
"Higher!" Legolas squealed, his blond hair flapping against his shoulders as he landed squarely in the middle of the large bed.
"Higher!" Elrohir copied, pitching his voice higher than normal to match the elfling's. Elladan and his twin each grasped one of the small elfling's small hands and bent their knees. Together, the three of them jumped, the twins swinging Legolas' higher up than he could go himself. Legolas laughed hysterically as they landed , crumpling the already rumpled bed clothes as the bed squeaked.
"Again! Again!" Legolas shrieked through his laughter and the two sons of Elrond obliged, laughing themselves at the look of pure delight on the young child's face. Jumping once more, Elladan and Elrohir began to jump in circles, swinging Legolas ever higher.
"On three!" Elladan paused the incessant jumping and bent his knees. The other two copied him, Legolas hardly able to stand straight from laughter. "One, two, THREE!" They jumped as one, but came down at different times, jerking each other out of balance. They landed in heap, giggling.
"Again!" Legolas called, clapping his pudgy hands together with glee as he pulled himself up and began to jump again. Elrohir rolled over, sniggering at the child's excitement, but did not get up.
"I think that is enough, Legolas," he gasped, tugging at the young prince's arm and pulling him back down. Almost instantly, the elfling scrambled back up.
"Agreed," Elladan echoed, closing his eyes as he relaxed. The bed shook under the force of Legolas' small feet hitting it, but the twins didn't try to stop him again, letting him do as he pleased.
"Again!" Legolas repeated fervently, giggling as he toppled over only to shoot back up.
"No, Legolas," Elladan began, shaking his head, "One important life lesson. Always quit while you are ahead. We haven't been caught jumping on the furniture…yet." Elrohir nodded emphatically.
"Never, never, get caught if at all possible," he added, shaking his head. "You could get caught, though." He lurched forward, grabbing Legolas around the middle and yanking him down playfully.
"Why could I get caught?" the younger prince ask, wiggling away from the twins' tickling fingers and starting to jump up and down once more.
"Oh," Elladan gave the prince a playfully envious look. "Large, blue, eyes. Angelic smile. Those chubby cheeks…You've got it all! No one could ever punish you." The brothers shared an amused look.
"My Ada does," Legolas replied, frowning lightly even as he continued to jump around the twins.
"He's your Ada, he is immune."
Legolas shrugged, not quite following the conversation, and continued to jump. His small fist were clenched tightly as he moved and down the side of the bed, and he began to sing loudly a song that all small elflings knew.
"If we would have had his looks and his ability to instantly pull off those puppy eyes…" Elladan trailed off, nodding and smiling widely as the elfling looked their direction.
"Oh, we aren't too bad off. We can pull some very good eyes ourselves when needed," Elrohir reminded his brother, tapping his arm.
"Remember how Glorfindel use to—careful young one—use to melt?" He flung out an arm as Legolas landed too close to the edge of the bed and wavered dangerously. The prince gripped the twin's arm momentarily but as soon as he had righted himself went right back to doing his new favorite past time.
"How about you stop before you get hurt," Elladan suggested, leaning up on his elbows as he watched the small boy. Legolas shook his head, his golden hair bouncing around him.
"I won't get hut," he exclaimed in a voice that suggested that what the other elf's worry was ridiculous.
"Can you guarantee that?" Elrohir asked, shaking his head in exasperation as Legolas nodded. "You can not."
"Yes, I can." Legolas meet their eyes and smiled, starting to sing his song again, almost yelling the words to drown out any other protest the twins might have. He moved to the head of the bed, away from their grasping fingers.
"Were we that way when we were that young?" Elladan raised an eyebrow at his twin, a quirky smile stretching his lips.
"We were worse. Far, far worse. It is amazing we made it through childhood to be adolescents." The singing behind them expounded in gusto as Legolas reached the chorus and the twins glanced back to see the young elf twirling now as well as jumping.
"Glorfindel certainly won't deal with what he use too."
"Nana still does, and she can usually calm Ada down, so, we are—Legolas!" Elrohir and Elladan lunged forward at the same time, hoping to prevent disaster before it could strike. Legolas was in mid jump, but they could tell he had miscalculated his landing. His left foot missed the bed and Legolas broke his song off in a startled shriek as he toppled off the bed, hitting the ground with an audible thud.
The twins gasped simultaneously in shock and lurched to the side, gazing down as a startling loud wail started up. Legolas was lying on his side; his eyes squeezed shut, but his mouth wide open as he began to cry increasingly harder.
"Did he hit his head?" Elrohir asked hurriedly as the brothers scrambled off the bed and Elladan scooped up the small prince, cradling him close to his chest.
"I don't know! Legolas, speak to us," Elladan began to bounce Legolas in his arms, patting his back hurriedly. But Legolas did not clam, his crying increasing into hysterics. Abruptly, the elfling went limp, flopping back in the elder twin's arms. His jaw worked, but no sound left his lips as his eyes rolled back into his head.
" Legolas! Legolas, come one, breath for us, little one!" Elladan began to shake the young prince, his eyes widening as he glanced at Elrohir. The prince chest worked, yet still not sound left him. "Elrohir, go get Nana!" But the younger twin was frozen, his horrified gaze locked on the child. Elladan didn't ask again. Bouncing Legolas harder, he felt a trill of panic shoot through his system. "Cry, Legolas, cry for us."
Legolas' chest heaved, and then he took a shuddering breath as his eyes blinked open. An ear-splitting shriek followed, but the twins couldn't have heard a more beautiful sound. Big, far, tears, were beginning to roll down the prince's cheeks but Elladan only clutched his small body to his chest, rocking him gently as he continued to bawl. Elrohir let his eyes flutter close and leaned back against the bed, taking a large breath of relief.
Legolas continued to wail, his small fingers coming up to clutch at Elladan's tunic and the older twin shhed him gently, patting his back in a comfortable rhythm.
"Can I see him?" Elrohir asked, holding out his arms. Elladan looked down at the young child face, wiping away one of the tears from off his chubby face, and nodded. Lifting Legolas carefully, he passed him over into his waiting twin's arms. Elrohir took him, allowing the boy to grasp at his long hair as he sobbed.
After a few minutes of crying and shhing, Legolas' shrill shriek faded to slow, shuddering breaths, with an occasional hiccup thrown in.
"There, it is all better, right?" Elrohir asked, smiling gently as Legolas nodded against his chest.
"Did we not tell you to jump on the bed?" Elladan reproached gently, scooting closer to his twin and running his hand lightly through the blonde, soft, silky, frowned he came into contact with a fair seized goose egg.
"Uh-huh," Legolas mumbled, scrubbing a hand across his face, before nestling further into Elrohir's shoulder. "But it was fun."
"It was." Elrohir pulled Legolas away from him, setting him on his feet. Legolas let a tiny grin creep upon his face and nodded. "But Elladan is right, next time we will be more careful." Legolas nodded again, before reaching out and grasping one of each of the twin's fingers with his slightly pudgy hands.
"Up!" he directed, pulling on their fingers until they rose to their feet.
"Where are we going?" Elrohir asked as Legolas pulled them towards the couches. Letting go of their fingers, the prince grabbed a fistful of the fabric and scrambled up, allowing Elladan to give him a small boost. The twins shared amused looks, but sat next to him. Legolas' looked up at them, his cheeks glittering with moisture and his nose red from crying, giving them an angelic smile.
"Tell me a story!" he requested, rocking back and forth. The twins sighed, but agreed. They may be there for the rest of the afternoon (one story was simply not enough) but they were just grateful Legolas didn't want to do anything that might result in more head hitting. One in a day was enough for them.
THE END
Let me tell you, when a kid does that (the whole fainting abruptly thing) then it freaks you out. :)
Next time! Legolas and Thranduil up again!

Elven Princess: Sounds like a good idea! However, I have been doing this as a first come first serve (and I have been switching between doing a suggestion and one of my own ideas) so currently you are at the end of the line. However, on the upside, someone asked for an Aragorn!sick! fic and that should be...let me think...chapter 14, I think. Oh, yea, Legolas would have been a teenager. Maybe the equivalent of about 17. :) Thanks!
