His eyes narrowed as his sensitive hearing picked up the commotion. What was going on? Sniffing the air, the daiyoukai let out an irritated growl. Apparently, today was the occurrence of the monthly meeting. Why else would the hanyou be here? Silently walking through the door and into the main waiting area, he observed the scene before him in mild curiousity.

"What the fuck! Seriously? Now I have to go to the bathroom and wash this shit off."

Clearly, something had happened. Perhaps a coffee had been spilled? Whatever it was, it did not excuse the language being shouted across the room. Resisting a sigh, the daiyoukai waited for his secretary's response. He could sense her, not to mention her scent all but poured outside the waiting area. The vixen that had somehow managed to sneak out of his house in the early morning without his detection. That in-itself was not an easy task, but she had succeeded nonetheless.

This would be her first encounter with the insolent pup, yet that did not mean she was not aware of who he was. Sesshoumaru had informed her of the individual that was notoriously known for his vulgar behavior and rash behavior. In fact, he had made sure she was informed that he expected nothing but hostilities upon their meeting—from both individuals. He silently had debated if the fiery woman could handle such a task. Sure enough, the raven haired beauty did not so much as flinch at the language directed at her.

"Uhhhh, it was you who ran into me."

Apparently stating the obvious to this man only annoyed him more.

"A secretary that can't move out of the way? Classic."

It took a mere two seconds for the vixen to respond to such a comment.

"A rich kid that scoffs at life's minor inconveniences and throws a tantrum? How rare."

Refraining from chuckling, Sesshoumaru allowed the corner of his mouth to curve into a smirk at the fierce woman before him. What was it about her that set his body on fire? Yet, this was different. Instead of passion, it was replaced with a mixture of awe and satisfaction. Redirecting his gaze to the hanyou, he frown at the source of the argument.

A stain.

The arrogant pup was complaining about something so minor.

"Bitch."

Almost instantly, Sesshoumaru narrowed his eyes at the individual that would dare insult her. The amusement quickly evaporated from his eyes, and now he glared at his half-brother. Yet before he could say anything, the conversation continued all thanks to the vixen.

"Pup."

Without warning, a growl emerged from the half-breed and angry youki rolled off in enormous waves. The snickers of other individuals in the room died down, and all attention transformed from amusement to worry. Allowing a moment of hesitation to gather his thoughts, Sesshoumaru was in front of the other inu in mere seconds. The shock on the insubordinate pup did not go unnoticed. Yet, it had been nearly a thousand years since he cared about such emotions when it regarded his half-brother. Tilting his head ever so slightly in a manner implying a challenge, he waited.

Yet none came.

Instead, the ears that were on the mutts head went back in hesitation all but laced in fear.

Accepting his easy victory, Sesshoumaru glanced back at the vixen hidden behind his person. Oddly enough, no fear was present in her scent, and if anything, she seemed more annoyed than anything else. Still, was it truly because of her annoyance with his half-brother that her scent was drowning in frustration?

He followed her gaze and quickly found his answer.

The cup of coffee.

He watched in amusement as she shook her head in disdain, raven locks softly falling past her shoulders. Still, she handed what appeared to be a half-empty cup. The mug and the stains from the spill looked pathetic, and for a brief moment, Sesshoumaru hesitated.

"Here's what left of you coffee."

Normally, he would have glared daggers at a person whom attempted to hand him such a vile thing.

But not her.

"I appreciate the effort and apologize on the half breed's behalf, Higurashi."

When she nodded her head in acceptance of such an apology, he almost did not hear what she mumbled under her breath.

Almost.

"Augh, You two are nothing alike."

She was typing away at the files that he had given her, all marked for revisions. The mere thought did nothing but stress her out. The likeliness of completing all the paperwork by the end of the day was incredibly low, but that did not stop her from trying.

As hours passed, her vision slowly got blurrier. Shaking her head to wake herself up, she succeeded in retaining a few more minutes of consciousness. Rubbing her eyes in exhaustion, she plopped her head against her upright hand. Then, without realizing it, she entered the world of sleep.

Until a voice awoke her.

"Perhaps an early escape from my home was not the most practical decision, Higurashi?"

Jerking awake in shock, her sapphire blue eyes met narrow amber ones. Mentally, she cursed at herself. Why did he always find her in the worst situations? Better yet, how had she managed to stay employed still? Instead of embarrassing herself with words, she merely gave her boss a smile of nervousness. At this point, there were no words for falling asleep on the job.

"Tell me, when is a sufficient age for a human adult to be able to take care of themselves?"

Kagome gazed at her employer in irritation and exhaustion, yet remained mute. Maybe if she allowed him to voice his frustrations she would be able to keep her job?

At this point, it seemed like a fair trade.

"Speak."

Nope, her idea was not working out.

"I apologize, Sesshoumaru-sama."

The daiyoukai scoffed at the vixen and rubbed his temples in mild irritation. He had come to her office to ask her for another favor, and at the last moment had thought better of it. But then he had seen it. The opportunity that her sleeping on the job provided him. Leverage. The situation before him was not ideal, but it would have to do. He should have waited longer before requesting another favor from her, but the scene that had presented itself had been far too convenient to ignore.

Therefore, he did not.

"Come, we have another business dinner, Higurashi."

When realization dawned on her that she was given yet another day of employment, she happily sighed in relief. It was because of those emotions that she didn't ask questions. Or even inquire the identity of the individual that they were dining with. Or even raise suspicion at such a last minute meeting.

And as luck would have it, the daiyoukai had no intentions of informing her that his father had requested such an event.

As always, Kagome Higurashi remained oblivious to everything around her.
