Title: A Christmas to Remember
Disclaimer: I do not own InuYasha and Co.
Summary: "Tell me Higurashi, did you and the mythological Lord have tea together?" Her teacher asked sarcastically. "No professor, The Lord of the Western lands and I never had tea together, although we did spend Christmas together." was her simple reply. S/K
A/N: Three chapters revised/tinkered with all in one day. Eight more to go! D:
Her quick thinking had backfired. Instead of feeling successful and relishing in her last minute plan, she was now mentally cursing at herself. How had the Inu created so much chaos in her mind? Better yet, she wondered if he realized all the questions that he had left her with. Although, to be fair, she had been the one that left him—not the other way around.
Letting out a heavy sigh, she considered the current issues at hand. For one, she still had no idea whom the Inu known as Shinji was. That fact alone made her extremely wary. After all, how was it possible for someone to know so much about her but at the same time be a complete stranger? The second problem was simply that she had no way to contact him.
Way to go, Kagome.
It was odd how two simple problems could create so many more issues. Biting her lip, she wondered why she had made such an impulsive decision without considering the repercussions. Clearly, she should have kept her mouth shut in regards to defending the Lord of the Western Lands. After all, had it not been for that—none of this would have happened.
"What was I thinking?" She whined in frustration. Walking into a diner, she decided that perhaps some food would help her come up with alternatives to her situation. Ordering her food and sipping her water, she once again released a groan of frustration.
"Not the best at making logical plans—are we?" A deep voice interrupted her thoughts. She didn't need to look up to recognize the voice but she did nonetheless—incase she was hallucinating. Sure enough, there stood the Inu that she had abandoned nearly an hour ago.
"Did you follow me?" She had not meant for it to come out as a hiss but it did anyway. She could not help but eye the man with suspicion and confusion.
"Typically, I'd say no. However, be flattered at the exception." The familiar Inu replied curly while taking a seat across from her. Glaring at him, she silently thanked the gods for listening to her complaints. While she did not take lightly to stalking, this one time could be overlooked due to the many questions flying around in her head.
"I am eager for your story." The Inu all but announced proudly. Rolling her eyes, she mentally began taking notes of the similarities he shared with a certain Lord that she had known.
"My story? Who says you're getting it? " This time, she knew better. He wanted information, as did she, and this time she would get her questions answered.
"Tell me how it is that you came to spend Christmas with the Lord of Antarctica and I will answer your questions." The Inu replied playfully with a coyful smile.
Lord of Antarctica? It was a safe bet that he did, in fact, know Lord Sesshoumaru on a personal level. Hope and excitement filled her thoughts as she gave a nod of agreement.
"You knew them." Kagome replied in awe suddenly.
"Surely you've already realized that I knew who they were." Shiniji replied a tad bit surprised at her sudden statement.
"No, I mean, you really knew them. You were close to them." She explained carefully while observing the Inu in front of her. The moment the words were out, she saw his guard go back up. The question that she wanted to know was why.
"Just as you did, perhaps you knew him better." Shinji replied cautiously while making sure to hide any emotion in his tone. Once more, another similar trait. She silently wondered how many more similarities there would be.
"Tell me, why defend him when there was no proof." Shinji asked causally. She could not help but wonder what the purpose of such a question was but she obliged nonetheless.
"You know there's proof. I wouldn't defend him if there wasn't." She bit out with narrowed eyes. After all, why would she blindly defend someone if she did not know them personally.
"Well yes, but none that the humans know of." He whispered playfully with the term 'humans'.
"It matters not—let us get on with the story. After all, I don't have all day, little miko." He added impatiently causing Kagome's eyes to widen. This man knew everything about her, or so it seemed and yet, she knew nothing of him. That seemed hardly fair.
"If you know everything about me and everyone else, why ask me about it?" She hissed angrily.
"That is not important. I have no desire for you to tell me what I already know. I do not know how it is that you ended up spending Christmas with the Lord, so thus why I'm asking." He explained.
"Out of everything you could ask me! Why is this so important?" The shock in her voice was easy to identify and with good reason. Out of all the questions he could ask, he would always pick the ones she least expected.
"You could ask me about the jewel, about how I'm alive, about why I'm alive, hell, you could even ask how I was able to be human and survive for so…long. Yet you ask how I spent my last Christmas in the Feudal Era?"
His questions confused and irritated her. Reluctantly, she realized why she was becoming so irritated with the Inu. All his questions were in regards to memories that were extremely personal to her. What reason did he have for needing to know such details?
"That is correct. I have no desire for the other answers. I merely want this one."
"And what do I get? What do I get for giving you this valuable information?"
"What do you want?"
"Will you tell me who you are?"
"I shall answer some of your questions."
Kagome wanted to bang her head on the wall. He was cunning, knowledgeable but most importantly—extremely stubborn. Realizing this offer would be the best that she would get, she accepted defeat.
"You promise?" She needed confirmation. While she assumed much had changed in the world, she hoped that the importance of honor was not one of those things.
"I give you my word, Miko."
"As if I haven't heard that before from an Inu" She replied with disbelief in her voice. As Shinji narrowed his eyes at her implication, she merely rolled hers. Oh yes, this Inu and the other that plagued her thoughts could easily be brothers. Annoyed, she wondered if perhaps it was just a trait of that breed.
"Fine, if you must know—it all began when Sesshoumaru joined our group—when he joined our pack, as you people call it. That's when it started."
She stared at the Inu across from her and mentally prepared herself for the tale. After all, this was something she had not told anything—and had hoped to treasure and hide from the rest of the world. Yet, it seemed, that the world had a funny way of constantly proving her wrong.
A/N: I'm sure you guys are wondering why i'm updating the chapters. I realize they were written a while ago and decided to just look over them and make sure everything looked good. That being said, I will probably start looking for a beta sometime soon.
