Flash Back
They had done it.
The last bit of the jewel had been found, and purified.
With hesitation and fear, she handed over the shard that was needed for the completion of the jewel. Glancing at Inu Yasha, she waited for him to bring out the rest of the jewel that he had insisted on keeping safe. Raising a brow in confusion, she wondered why he hesitated.
"Tell me when you are ready to make the wish. I will purify the jewel for you, but I do not have the desire to be there for when you make your wish." She informed the Inu with bitter honesty. At his instant display of nervousness, she spoke up once again.
"The rest of the jewel—where is it?" It had begun dawning on her the moment the words left her mouth. Surely, he had not. Yet, his nervousness was the only answer she needed. They had warned him. His entire group had warned him about her. Unable to control herself, she growled at Inu Yasha in a manner that would resembled that of an Inu.
"I swear on everything that is holy—find her."
She refused to say anything else. It wasn't until she had spoken the words of anger that the group realized what had happened. Those words were apparently all that needed to be said. Within seconds, the Hanyou was out of her sight and in search of the dead Miko.
Present day
"Interesting." The Inu muttered under her breath but Kagome heard it nonetheless. Interesting was one word for it. Inu Yashas insolence had been the only reason that her group had spent the short period at the castle—his castle. His ward had requested—or more than likely pleaded—to have the group visit.
They had needed a place to rest while Inu Yasha chased down the Miko. Surprising her once again, Sesshoumaru had offered his domain for the purpose of recuperation and awaiting the return of the jewel. She had not been the only one shocked by such an invitation. The group accepted nonetheless.
Drawing her mind back to modern day, she watched Shinjis face for any clues but could find nothing. Yet another similarity to the Daiyoukai. Finally, the Inu decided to speak up.
"Tell me Miko, why do you think Lord Sesshoumaru invited you into his home?" He asked with brows raised but an all knowing smile on his face. The question confused her but his expression towards her angered her more than anything. Why the mind games? Why the secrecy? Even know, she knew nothing about him.
"We needed rest, and we were in his lands. It was convenient." She replied matter of factly while staring outside at the snow. She knew better than to believe her own response. After all, she had been shocked at such a proposal. Yet, she also laughed at the thought of trying to explain that the reasoning may have been out of friendship.
"I wonder if you truly know him as well as I thought. Perhaps not." Was his only response to her comment. Without warning, something snapped inside of her. Turning to the Inu, she slammed her hand on the table.
"Perhaps you could explain how you know him so damn well then!?"
He gave no reaction to her anger. Instead, he simply chuckled.
"Sesshoumaru does not invite individuals to his home to rest." The comment was stated so simply that she couldn't help but wonder if that had been his way of calling her a liar. What else had he thought had occurred during the visit? Kagome refused to let her mind wander on his implications.
"Well, it clearly sounds like you know this story much better than I—obviously you don't need to hear the rest of the story." She had said it with hopes of shutting him up. She had thought it would allow her to finish her story.
"No, like I stated before, I have no desire for you to tell me what I already know, Miko." He insisted standing up. She could not help but let out a quiet gasp at the statement that he had made. Was he lying? He had to be. Suddenly she had even more questions.
"Are you telling me you know what happened after we stayed in the castle? You know the events of the castle? You know what happened with the jewel? What was wished? How?" She could have continued to throw out even more questions but decided to give the Inu a chance to respond.
"Were you in the castle? Or maybe you already knew this entire story? Who the hell are you?" She growled at the Inu once more and this time, she let her Miko power radiate around her body in warning.
"Yes, I know what happened once you entered the castle and the events after. Yes, I was in the castle. No, I did not know the entire story, little Miko. Now I do though. As for whom am I? I believe I already answered your first few questions and do not desire to answer all of them." He responded calmly with a smirk.
Within seconds, he was gone once again. Just like that, any possible answers to her questions vanished.
Sitting back down, Kagome attempted to stop herself from trembling—both from anger and from shock. Thinking back, she tried to review everything she knew of Shinji. When he had asked to converse about 'Sesshoumaru' over coffee, he had been fidgeting and obviously nervous. Why? What reason did he have to be nervous?
The moment she had pointed out that he had 'really' known Sesshoumaru, he had instantly put his guard up. Once more, why? What were his reasons? Suddenly, she remembered his comment about Jaken. He seemed to know Sesshoumaru better than most. How was that even possible?
Who the hell was Shinji Murasaki?!
