Title: A Christmas to Remember
Chapter: Hidden Questions
Disclaimer: I do not own Inu Yasha and Co.
Summery: She sat there arguing with her clueless professor until he asked her "Higurashi, you act as if you knew him in person. Tell me, did you and the mythological Lord have tea together?" He asked with sarcasm in his voice. Kagome refused to let him belittle her, so with a smirk that spoke a thousand words she replied "No professor, The Lord of the Western lands and I never had tea together, although we did spend Christmas together."

A/N- So, I'm warning everyone—it may take a while before this becomes a full blown S/K. Kagome has not seen her former companions in years, and they have for five hundred years. Sesshoumaru had never truly went after Kagome in a romantic sense. They had been getting friendly and learning about one another in the past, not in no way fully romantic.

That being said, they're not going to magically fall into a relationship. However, what individual do you know that has already professed his love for her? Naturally, it's going to be easier for him to go after her after all this time. That does not mean it's going to be a K/K fic. Be patient with the story.

She wasn't sure when she had fallen asleep, or even when the winter night had become so cold but she was awake now, and aware of several things. While the darkness was thick, the lights outside the hospital lit up the outside to show that snow was still falling. Perhaps they had the AC on, or maybe the heat was turned off. Whatever the reason, even under the blanket she felt cold.

As she glanced at the window near her bed, she realized why her body had goosebumps and the air was so frigid. Somehow, her window was cracked open a bit. As she stood up and began closing it, the moon caught her attention. The eerie howling from the storm and the full moon gave her shivers. Closing the window with a firm shut, she sat back down on her bed. She was still sore but now to accommodate her pain was the bitter coldness in the room.

Wrapping her arms around her legs, she tried her best to not feel so depressed.

She desperately wished for the stars to appear, or to have someone keep her company—anything at this point would be better than the eeriness she felt. She was not used to the feeling of unfamiliarity. She had worked hard over the years to choose her surroundings carefully and her habits were beyond routine. This however, was not routine. The lack of lights in her room bothered her. While there were lights outside, it did not seem to be enough. There was no enough 'warmth' to the place. Even if she were to turn on the lights in the room, she knew it would not bring the warmth that she so desperately needed.

"Fuck." She said under her breath bitterly. While she was not one to swear, she felt that this was the perfect occasion for such a thing. She needed communication or familiarity. One or the other—or both.

Almost instantly—as if the universe had heard her, there was a knock on the door. She knew shock more than likely registered on not only her face but her aura as well. Who could be here in the middle of the night? Before she could talk herself out of it, she told whomever was behind the door to come in. Slowly the door opened and a man peeked his head in. Vaguely, she remembered him.

"Koga…?"

She was sure that was Koga.

While his hair was shorter, this man had spoken to her in the hospital. In fact, this was the man that she thought she might have hallucinated. Other than the short hair, he had not really changed. She was almost shocked at how handsome he was, but she was not sure as to why. Hadn't the wolf prince always been handsome? Observing him in the dim room, she noted his bright blue eyes—eyes that held gentleness, honesty…and what seemed to be worry.

While she gazed at him, Koga gave his famous wolfish grin. He had gone to the council as Sesshoumaru had asked. Yet, he was not whom the council wanted to see. So back to the hospital he went. Grabbing a chair, he sat outside of her room—much like that of a guard dog—or wolf in this case.

He had nearly dozed off when he heard stirring and sensed the change in her aura. With hesitation, he pondered if he should knock or not. It was not until he heard her curse that he decided he would announce himself.

"I was watching over you. In case—you know, you needed something." Koga explained with nervousness while scratching the back of his head. "I didn't mean to disturb you." He quickly added just in case he was doing just that—disturbing her.

"No!" Kagome was quick to reply. "No." She said once more but this time in a calmer manner. "Thank you" she added quietly.

Standing awkwardly at the door, Koga was at a loss for words. What do you say to the woman that you have not seen in over five hundred years? The woman that saved the human and youkai race? The miko who had your heart since before he could remember?

He wasn't sure what it was about her that always left him breathless. Was it her expressive blue eyes that constantly held his attention? Or had it been her scent that he could find from miles away—the scent of lilacs. Even now, looking hurt like she did, she was nothing short of beautiful.

"I don't know where to begin…" He admitted honestly.

In fact, he had absolutely no idea. He wanted to run to her and crush her in an embrace. He wanted to hold her and tell her everything would be all right. He wanted to keep her away from everyone else and he wanted to never again let her out of his sight. He wanted her to be safe, and most importantly—cared for.

"I don't know…" Kagome responded weakly. It wasn't until then that he noticed her teeth were chattering. Upon further examination, he realized that her lips were turning an odd shade of blue.

"Fuck, Kagome—you're freezing!" He all but shouted. In less than a second, he was by her side trying to warm her up. Grabbing her covers, he frowned. The covers would barely do anything. Other than a thin sheet and flimsy blanket, she had nothing else to keep her warm.

"The window got left open." She explained while shivering. Irked at the fact that such a thing was overlooked, Koga grabbed the hospital phone and asked for extra sheets. After he hung up the phone, he sat next to her on the bed.

"May I?" He asked politely and hesitantly while showing her his arms. Confused, Kagome raised a brow but nodded trustingly. Slowly, Koga wrapped his arms around her shoulders while using his aura to release his body heat.

"How…" She began and Koga chuckled.

"I'm a wolf, love…remember? Youkai perks. We tend to run a little warm." He explained playfully. Apparently, this was not the right thing to say because it caused her to sigh and sadness radiated off her entire body.

"Lucky. At least you're not a weak human like some of us." Was all she mumbled under her breath. Shocked, Koga turned to face her and lifted her chin to meet his eyes.

"Kagome, god—Kagome. You are perfection. Yes, you are human but you are far from weak. You are the strongest person I know." He began talking while stroking her hair. Even after all these years she still had a wild look to her—her soul was untamed and it made her so incredibly beautiful.

"I thought we lost you—we thought we lost you. No one realized that you were unaffected by the jewels wish. When the wish was granted and the jewel disappeared, so did you. Everyone thought that was part of the wish. Inu Yasha told everyone it was part of the wish. Something about the dead mikos soul needing to be given to her, and in turn—affecting you. No one had the chance to say goodbye." Koga began explaining.

He needed to explain to her that she wasn't abandoned. No one would abandon her—well, no one but maybe that damn mutt.

"Kagome…" he began again but Kagome just nodded without a word. Did she not realize that he needed her to understand? He needed to tell her. She had to know.

"We wouldn't leave you…" He finished softly while staring into her eyes. Almost instantly, the scent of tears hit his nose and sure enough, tears began spilling down her face. He could feel her trembling while she began sobbing. Without a word, Kagome hurled herself into his arms while clutching to his T-shirt. Koga didn't know what to do other than to hold her and stroke her hair.

"I thought—I thought everyone forgot me." She managed to get out in between sobs. As she continued to sob, Koga shook his head.

"Then you're a damn fool, Kagome Higurashi—no one would ever forget you." He reassured her while placing a kiss on the top of her head.

He hadn't been quiet sure on what to expect from his first encounter with Kagome but it was not this. He had not imagined her to truly think that she would have been forgotten. Nor could he have imagined himself to be holding her in his arms while reassuring her of her worth.

Yet, no matter how confusing and shocking this was, he decided he would not have changed it for the world. He was glad that he had decided to sit outside her room. After all, had he not told the damn dog that he would take care of her? Had he not said that he would show her what she meant to him? If the damn dog wanted a battle over the Miko then he would give him a war.

A/N- You all have to admit that's sweet. Not Sesshoumaru sweet, but sweet nonetheless. ;)
